A husband's secrets to making a marriage last:

Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, have a little wine, some good food and companionship. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays.

We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in New York and mine is in L.A.

I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.

I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

She has an electric blender, electric toaster, and electric bread maker. Then she said, "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.

My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was, she told me, "In the lake."

She got a mudpack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.

She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, "Am I too late for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in!"

Remember...Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

Statistically, 100% of all divorces start with marriage.

I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was Always.

I haven't spoken to my wife for 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.

The last fight was my fault. My wife asked, "What's on the TV?" I said, 'Dust!"

Why do men die before their wives? Because they want to.

Bwahaha!  ;D

"She's such a nightmare," said John, 65. "Her career is over, I can tell you that. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn't happen to a bigger [expletive]. If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff, and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But no, she had to prove that she was like … and she looks like a [expletive] fairground stripper. And she's been so horrible to [Lady] Gaga," he added about his friend, who also happens to be his 19-month-old son Zachary's godmother.

The feud between Madonna and John first began in 2004 when he accused her of lip synching during her live performances. Then this past January, when both were nominated for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes, they traded barbs on the red carpet about their competition. After John said that Madonna "hasn't got a f---ing chance" at winning, she responded with, "Oh damn him … may the best man win." And when she did, all hell broke loose. John's husband David Furnish unleashed his fury on his Facebook page after the awards ceremony. "Madonna. Best song? F--k off!!!" he wrote in a post he later deleted. "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is."

Two weeks later, John skewered Madonna once again when talking about her Super Bowl halftime performance. During an interview he did to promote his Pepsi commercial, which aired during the big game, he was asked to give the singer advice. His snarky response? "Make sure you lip sync good." -- http://omg.yahoo.com/

Elton John intensifies feud with Madonna, calls her ‘fairground stripper’ whose ‘career is over’
By Kathleen Perricone | Jam: Spotlight on Music Stars â€" Mon, Aug 6, 2012 3:57 PM PDT

Elton John may have sang that Saturday night is alright for fighting, but when it comes to Madonna, Sunday suited him, too. After taking swipes at the Material Girl on a few occasions over the years, the "Tiny Dancer" singer leveled his most bitter blow at her in an August 5 interview with Australia's Channel 7, during which he gave his thoughts on the 53-year-old's MDNA tour, which has been rife with controversy (Madonna flashing the crowd and using a gun as a prop) and low with ticket sales.

Defending weightlifting gold medalist Matthias Steiner walked away from a terrifying incident Tuesday when he dropped a barbell weighing 432 pounds on his neck during the Olympic 105+ kg competition.

The German was attempting to snatch 196 kg when his knees and arms buckled, causing the massive weight to fall on top of his head. Steiner collapsed under the barbell and instantaneously flopped while its mass bent his neck and head. He was immediately tended to by medical officials and somehow got to his feet, saluted the crowd and walked off under his own power.

Pregnant women pray before the start of a medical mission by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Negros Oriental, central Philippines January 19, 2012. Philippine President Benigno Aquino on August 6, 2012 successfully threw his weight behind a health bill promoting state-funded contraception, stepping out of his late mother Corazon's shadow as he pushes reforms widely opposed by the Roman Catholic Church. The bill, as it stands, requires governments down to the village level to provide free or low-cost reproductive health services. The law will not promote abortion, which is illegal. Marie Menken was a painter, filmmaker and all-round bohemian. In her volatile marriage to fellow filmmaker Willard Mass, she was allegedly also the inspiration for the character of Martha in Edward Albee’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ Her appropriately titled ‘Glimpse of the Garden,’ seems inspired by her paintings. For ‘Glimpse,’ Menken focuses her camera on the flowers and plant life of a garden, sometimes in extreme close-up, its shifting images edited to the songs of area birds who act as the film’s only soundtrack. Her sharp eye and editing elevates this footage of an ‘ordinary’ garden into a memorable tone poem. -- http://listverse.com/

History / The Asanuma assasination, 1960
August 07, 2012, 07:44:45 PM

Inejiro Asanuma (December 27, 1898 - October 12, 1960) was a Japanese politician, and
head of the Japanese Socialist Party. Inejiro was noted for speaking publicly about
socialism and economic and cultural opportunities. His left-wing positions and criticism
of the United States were not welcomed by conservatives. He was assassinated by
17-year-old Otoya Yamaguchi, an extreme rightist, at a televised rally for the upcoming
Lower-house election.

This picture was taken only a second before Asanuma was assassinated by a right wing student. Photographer Yasushi Nagao said he was only on the right place and on the right time. He received a Pulitzer price for this photo. -- http://www.jacanaent.com/

History / Re: Jack Ruby shoots Lee Harvey Oswald
August 07, 2012, 07:41:32 PM
At 11:21 am Sunday, November 24 1963, while he was handcuffed to Detective Leavelle and as he was
about to be taken to the Dallas County Jail, Oswald was shot and fatally wounded before live
television cameras in the basement of Dallas Police Headquarters by Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub
operator who said, when accused, he had been distraught over the Kennedy assassination. He was
thought to have said, "You killed the President, you rat!"

Unconscious, Oswald was put into an ambulance and rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, the same
hospital where JFK had died two days earlier. Doctors operated on Oswald, but Ruby's single bullet
had severed major abdominal blood vessels, and the doctors were unable to repair the massive trauma.
Oswald was pronounced dead at 1:07 pm. After a full autopsy, Oswald's body was returned to his
family. Oswald's grave is in Rose Hill Memorial Burial Park in Fort Worth. The original tombstone,
which included Oswald's full name and dates of birth and death, was stolen; today, the grave is
marked by a stone which reads simply, Oswald. Because Oswald did not live to stand trial for the
murder of President Kennedy, he is still legally presumed not guilty. -- http://www.jacanaent.com/

Premature babies lie on their cribs at the Fabella government maternity hospital in Manila August 5, 2012. The United Nations on Sunday called on Philippine leaders to pass the reproductive health bill, two days before the House of Representatives is scheduled to take a crucial vote on whether to end debates on the measure. It argued that the RH bill is not about population numbers as it is about ensuring a life of health and dignity. The UN statement also said, Family Health Survey (FHS), which was conducted from August to September 2011 with a recall period of six years for the data, estimated that for every 100,000 live births, there are 221 women dying due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth. This was a 36 percent increase from the 2006 Family Planning Survey data, which showed 162 estimated deaths per 100,000 live births. The FHS also estimated that, across all regions in the Philippines, the number of girls 15 to 19 years old who have delivered live births was 54 per 1,000 live births from 39 in 2006. For the 20 to 24 age group, the increase was to 159 per 1,000 live births from 149 in the 2006 survey. Picture taken August 5, 2012. REUTERS/Erik De Castro (PHILIPPINES - Tags: POLITICS HEALTH)

TIPS ON COOKING CROCODILE MEAT

Crocodile meat is low in fat and high in protein and is best cooked in the same manner as lean pork or chicken. It is a succulent white meat with a delicious and unique flavour.  It can be prepared into a variety of dishes using wet and dry cooking methods and is ideal in marinade or sauce.

Crocodile is a white meat with a nutritional composition comparing favourably with that of more traditional meats, for example chicken. It has a delicate flavour so the use of strong marinades is not recommended. Light tropical fruits compliment crocodile meat well. It does tend to have a slightly higher cholesterol level than other meats but is low in fat (less than 1%) and high in protein. The crocodiles are produced in a free range environment and are chemical free, which delivers the best practices possible in animal welfare, conservation management and meat hygiene.

Crocodile is easy to prepare and cook. It is best cooked from frozen as during the thawing process most of the moisture runs out decreasing the flavour. It should be cooked for two minutes on either side and then allowed to stand for a few minutes. It is best served just cooked (in red meat terms, medium rare). Remove excess fat after cooking. Do not use large number of ingredients (other than herbs or spices) - no more than three is recommended. If frying, always use butter or olive oil as they will not impart a flavour that is unique. Do not use margarine as the hydrogenated fats can emit an unpleasant flavour and prevent you from using other dairy products such as cream in the recipe. Keep it plain and simple.

Some suggested marinades are: Any citrus (lime, mandarin, organe), Fruit chutneys (esp. mango), rosemary, garlic, basil, ginger, curry, chilli, salt & pepper.

Do not overcook - best to saute in very hot pan to medium.

Allow meat to rest before slicing to prevent moisture loss.

Crocodile with mango & basil sauce

300g crocodile meat, cut into thin slices
30g peanut oil
20g basil leaves
20g parsley
5g garlic, chopped
20ml white wine vinegar
200ml olive oil
1 mango, stone removed and peeled
salt & pepper to taste

Heat peanut oil in a frying pan, saute seasoned crocodile pieces for about three minutes then set aside and keep warm. Blend basil, garlic, parsley, vinegar and olive oil in a food processor until smooth, set aside. Slice mango thinly and arrange on plate. Place crocodile slices in the centre, drizzle basil sauce around the plate and garnish with fresh herbs. -- http://www.wildoz.com.au/

A "super volcano" could endanger millions of residents. (ABC News)

The eruption of Mount Vesuvius near Naples, Italy, in 79 A.D. killed thousands of Pompeii residents and remains one of the most famous volcanic explosions in history. But scientists say a hidden "super volcano" in the same area has the potential to kill millions.

"These areas can give rise to the only eruptions that can have global catastrophic effects comparable to major meteorite impacts," Giuseppe De Natale, head of a project to drill deep under the earth to monitor the molten caldera, told Reuters.

A caldera, or cauldron, is formed by collapsed land after a volcanic eruption. It can be just as dangerous as volcanic domes, sending magma and ash shooting into the air. A caldera is located in Campi Flegrei. The regional park, which is named after the Greek word for burning, is a major tourist attraction, and the surrounding area is home to more than 3 million residents.

"That is why the Campi Flegrei absolutely must be studied and monitored," De Natale said. "I wouldn't say like others, but much more than the others exactly because of the danger given that millions of people live in the volcano."

Scientists funded by the International Continental Scientific Drilling Programme have been given clearance to drill 2.2 miles underground into the center of the caldera, home to a giant chamber of molten rock. Once they've reached the chamber, they plan to install a monitoring system that would give advanced warning of any potentially dangerous eruptions.

Half of Manila was under water and 250,000 people fled their homes Tuesday as torrential rain paralysed the city, sweeping away houses, stranding residents on rooftops and triggering a landslide.

At least 15 people were confirmed dead as the sprawling metropolis and nearby provinces suffered the most extensive floods since a typhoon that killed hundreds three years ago.

Schools, financial markets and most government and private offices were shut as key roadways in the capital -- a city of some 15 million people -- were submerged by waters that in some areas reached neck-deep.

"If we put it in a percentage, at least 50 percent of Metro Manila is flooded," Gine Nievarez from the state weather service told AFP.

As local television flashed live footage of rampaging rivers carrying off houses and residents marooned on the roofs of their homes, President Benigno Aquino said the government was doing everything it could to help.

"Everybody who is supposed to do something is doing what he is supposed to do," he told reporters after meeting with civil defence officials.

Bad weather from seasonal southwest monsoons has been pounding Manila and nearby areas for over a week. Meteorologists said the crisis in the capital came as over half a month's rain fell on the city in 24 hours.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that more than 800,000 people had been affected, with 18,600 in government evacuation centres and some 231,000 seeking refuge with friends or relatives.

Tuesday's deaths brought the number of people killed by the monsoon rains across the Philippines to 68 over the past week, according to civil defence officials.
