Bible Study / Re: Prayer For Life [30 Days]
June 02, 2009, 10:40:22 AM
DAY 7

Job 12:9-10

Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind

We live because God wills it so

Job was a man acquainted with grief, trials and tribulation. He had everything taken from him, including his family. He endured sickness, ridicule and judgment from his friends. Everyone gave him advice about his situation, questioning his spirituality and his God.  Job’s circumstances were bad, yet he never loses faith. Why?  Because of what he states, “the hand of the Lord has made all life.”  He knows God created him and he knows his life has meaning and purpose, regardless of the circumstances.

In our present culture, we’ve lost that basic truth; every life, mine, yours, Job’s â€" every life is given, made and allowed to live by God’s sovereign authority. As people who pride ourselves on our independence, we have a hard time acknowledging that we are all dependent upon God for our life. From our creation, when we were knit together in our mother’s womb, to the last breath we breathe, God’s word is clear that “in His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

It’s time for us as individuals, and as a society, to recognize that we exist by God’s grace and turn back to Him, honoring His word and His teachings. Why?  Because our world is full of Jobs, people who are dealing with trials and tribulations and hurting desperately.  Job’s response should be ours as well.  Regardless of what we face (even an unplanned pregnancy) God in His wisdom and mercy will redeem it.  How do I know?  I read the end of the book! Job’s story has a happy ending. Job’s friends who doubted God’s sovereignty cry out to God asking for help! God instructs Job to pray for his friends and after he does, God restores all that Job had lost. In other words, because Job never lost faith and knew and trusted His Creator, the Lord blessed Job.

Thank you Father God for being the Creator of my life and every life. Please give me, and the society in which I live, an appreciation for your gift of life.  Please help us set aside our pride and acknowledge that we need you. Show me how I can honor you today in response to all the blessings you bestow so freely. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

The wind and the storm is the transliteration of fear, and doubt of faith. Storms of our lives and the power of the evil unseen forces that influence even a faithful individual. These are natural, as even Peter, the first Apostle, doubted and was influenced. Yet despite his iniquities and his frailties, as a man, he nonetheless walked on the water. :)

The meaning ani, what Jesus is telling us--is to hold strong to your faith. And do not let temptation, fears, forces and powers that are seen or unseen challenge and affect your faith in Jesus.

Did not Jesus silence the storm with a mere word? :)
And when Peter began to sink because of fear and doubt, here merely begged Jesus, "LORD SAVE ME". And Jesus immediately saved him.

Call Jesus' Name now, and he will rescue you from any fears, doubt, and forces (seen or unseen) that are affecting your faith.

May the Lord God bless us, Brothers and Sisters!

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way  from the land,  beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind,  he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Bible Study / Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
June 01, 2009, 09:05:32 AM
22 Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.”

25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26 And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.

28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. 30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Amen.

Even in the roughest of storms, the Word of God secures our mind and keeps it strong against doubt, nefarious attacks form unseen corrupters, and apostasy.

The Word of God is power unassailable. It leads to one's rightful Justification in Jesus Christ. Who has ALL the authority on things seen and unseen. It is our Justification.

For all things were made for Him, Through Him and In Him. All Things.

---

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

--John 1:1-5

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God,  who is at the Father's side,  he has made him known.

Science and Research / Alzheimer's, Begone!
May 31, 2009, 11:47:22 AM
The drugs Rivastigmine, Tacrine and Donepezil have been proven to be effective against Alzheimer's.

The biochemistry of these drugs in their treatment of AS is the fact that they are ACHE-inhibitors. That means these 3 drugs are acetylcholine esterase inhibitors. These drugs prevent the breakdwn of acetylcholine by the enzyme acetylcholine esterase. Due to this, it leads to the retention of a high ACH concentration within the brain, due to these 3 drugs' ability to cross the Blood-brain barrier.

It has been proven, medically, that intake of these 3 drugs have led to positive results regarding the treatment of the debilitating disease known as Alzheimers.

However, there are major and significant side effects. These include:
CNS sequelae (nausea, vomitting, dizziness)
Diarrhea, abdominal pain, alteration of liver function and damage.

INTERESTING!

We, in the medical community, have found the cure for Alzheimer's. ;D

Caesar Augustus

He was by Senatorial Decree named as 'Pater Patriae Romanum' (Father of the Fatherland).

His reign was one of the longest and most prosperous times for the Roman Empire. His 40 year long reign was regarded as "Pax Romanum" or "Roman Peace".

This man was so loved and revered by the Roman people that upon his death in AD 14, during his Imperial Crematorium, hundreds of onlookers swore by the name of Jupiter the Avenger that they saw the soul of Augustus rise into heaven.

That very year, the members of the Senate, upon fervent request of the Plebians, proclaimed Augustus as the Divine, thereby promulgating him into Godhood. That very year, and years after, the cult of Divus Augustus was observed. He was so loved by the people that the Romans refused to accept that he was dead. Instead, willed it that he was a god, so that Augustus could never be truly 'dead'.

Definitely one of the greatest, if not THE greatest Emperor in Roman History. A brilliant tactician and probably one of the greatest expanders of the empire. 40 million people lived and died under his Imperial rule.

One of my favorite Roman Emperors throughout the post Julii era.

Septimus Severus.

A brilliant tactician, and a diplomatic animal. His mastery of the legions maintained the empire and his tactical brevity hammered into submission the would be enemies of the empire, namely the visigoths and vandals.

One of the longest reigning emperors, aside from August The Great, himself.

Philippine Daily Inquirer

While most of their countrymen are queuing for jobs and thinking up various money-making schemes, two Filipinos will be swimming in millions for having the knack for picking lucky numbers.

It was a random but lucky choice of numbers for the 21-year-old salesgirl who won half of the P188-million jackpot in the 6/49 SuperLotto draw on Thursday night.

The bettor, who bought her ticket in Sta Maria, Bulacan, had been playing the popular game of chance for only a week and did not even have a favorite combination of numbers.

“It’s really all random numbers, and she did not have any numbers she maintained. Maybe because she has only been playing for a week,” said Dr. Larry Cedro, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office spokesperson.

Cedro said the 21-year-old went to the PCSO’s Quezon City office Friday afternoon to claim her prize.

The lucky bettor only bet P20 on a single ticket but ended up taking home P94,077,569.30, which she said she would share with her parents and siblings.

She should give at least half to the charities uy, and the orphanages!

Please don't forget the poor, intawn.

May the merciful heart of Jesus pierce her heart to be generous to the poor..

LORD, this we pray in YOUR NAME, JESUS!

Amen.

ah dili man uy, below average ra man ko, Ate. Daghang role models man didto sa Pilipinas kai sila man mai kabao mo sacrifice. Stories like that of my great lolo Bernardo, who worked as a farmer and fisherman in the island of Pintuyan. Pordoy sila itawn ilang pag kanonon ra kai maiz, camote ug isdra ra. Sometimes ug naay kwarta, maka palit pood sila ug luto and ug naay kwarta sa banko, maka palit pood sila ug karne, pero dili frequent.

But in his own poverty and humble lifestyle, he was still able to provide for his children, despite the condition of the day. Raised over 12 kids even despite the economic situation. To God be the Glory!

Ahong great lolo sa mother's side si Lolo Ricardo, and my great lola Donisia, had over 12 kids pood. They were from Barangay Anas didto sa Valencia. Taga bukid sila intawn, luuy pood ilang kaugalingoon kai walay kwarta. Pero hard working man pood sila, kai mo trabajo man pood si lolo ricardo ug ahong lolo casiano sa basak. First born man ahong lolo ciano and bata pa sija ning trabajo na. Mo trabajo kai mo help pood mo palut ug kanonon sa table sa pamilya so dili pood ma gutum ijang gamay ka igsoon. Gamay pa sija intawn, ning adto na sija sa Cagayan De Oro didto sa Mindanao. Ning trabajo sija didto as a helper, sa basak, driver pood, fisherman. Tanan.

Ahong lolo ciano ning balik sa valencia, bisan walay edukasyon, smart gud sija kaayo, bisan walay 'fancy fancy wordings' iyang gift and his strength was a clear voice, speaking in truth and makaGINOO. Bisan walay edukasyon ahong lolo, he was still able to send all 5 of his kids to college. Tanan na human sa Engineering ug nursing school. Mao na gi ingoon sa ahong lolo nako, "If you saw me as a child when bata pa ko, 'doy, maka ingoon sigoro ka nako wala ko yamo futuro or maka kingoon ang tawo wa sigoro ko yamo ug opportunidad"

Ning hilak ko when he said that kai lolo gud sija nako. pero ning katawa pood sija nako. Ingoon sija nako< "Mao na ayaw lagi underestimate ang tawo na porody kaayo kai luuy  pood ijang kaugalingoon kai dili man buta ug bongol ang GINOO SA LANGGIT. Ako wala ko yamo edukaskyon kai walay kwarta man ahong mama ug papa. luuy pood mi kai taga bukidnon. Pero ang trabajo nako naka send sa imung mama sa collegio para nursing, ug imung mga uncles para s engineering. Bisan wala ko yamo edukasyon, ang success sa ahong anak ug ahong mga apo---AKONG SUCCESS POOD."

:)

Hilak ko intawn when my lolo told me that.

Hello Ate Raquel,

I agree with you in that the Filipino man is very protective. Ako galing, protective ko kaayo para sa ahong igsoong baji. Bisan 22 years old na sija and ako 23 na, dili jud sija allowed nako to date in college.

Ingoon to ahong papa before the starting of Lorraine's 1st year in college, he said to me, which i will never forget, "Bran, you are my eyes and my ears."

Pero I am so blessed to have such a wonderful and vocal sister. Kai conservative man kaayo si Lorraine--thanks be to God. My main worry in college was that there are alot of risk-taking American college students (males) that are only in for the short term aspect.

I have no problem with my sister or my younger brothers dating and going out with puti, chinese, latin, etc. I just have a problem when it comes to dating and pang-uyabuyab and having that affect with studies.

I had high school classmates that were very open into relationships and dating dating in high school years--and quite a few of them now are already parents. At an early age pa.

As a high school student i thought my parent's rules of the house of 'NO DATING' was too much. But looking at it now in hindsight, I baske in my parent's understanding and perception.

Pero yes, I am a strict kuya. Uber protective pa.
When I have kids, i will probably be protective--especially concerning my baby girls--if i so ever had daughters. And my sons, I would train as I was raised. Disciplined if necessary but showered with affection and love.

Your analysis about Guadalrose is very correct. Even to the point that this individual is 'confused'. I will not say anything else, but my only retort to this individual's reasoning is to remind her of the the 'would be stoners' of Mary of Magdalene.

This individual calls out the faults and picks on what he or she thinks is wrong about an individual, when in reality, it is so untrue.

This is a classic example of the HYPOCRITE.

The Bible tells us:
1Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

--Matthew 7:1-5

I find it so beautiful how Ate Ging responded to such harsh and wicked words of Guadalrose (I know who this person is, and he has done this before). God Bless you Ate Ging for your ability to forgive and be such a sweetheart.

As for Guadalrose, I forgive you on behalf of the people you hurt. I'll pray for you, friend. I hope your heart and your soul is comforted. You have alot of anger in you. I hope the Lord Jesus wipes that away from you. So you won't be the hypocrite as told to us by Matthew 7.

I find myself in the same league as other true conservatives as well as libertarians in regards to issues such as these. The same in regards to the 1998 Clinton-Lewinski Scandal.

That is their own issue. Private matters.

It is deplorable how the news media (news media is news media, matters not their location) focuses more on these 'easy to sell' stories than on stories on the ground that actually matter. Per se, developmental issues, the welfare of the poor, and the positive news on policies implemented and succeeded.

Why is it that most of the time, negative stories are printed and posted? Just for the sake of news polls and ratings? (rhetorical question)

Again, reprobate.

I personally disagree, friend.

The TV nor should the news media be deemed our 'surrogate parents' nor should we appease them or honor them in anyway. Its all for show, all for ratings, all for 'chismiss'. I personally abhor chismissing.

I personally find it prone for individuals in making this into such a big issue. It should be treated with privacy and professional etiquette. A physician, Hayden in this case, has his own personal vices of filming his lovers. Etc.

Nothing new, nothing special. We all, despite we admit it or not, have our own secrets and vices.

Let their problem be theirs, and people should just move on. This is becoming into a wildfire of chismiss that is antagonistic to what we have been taught, Scripturally and socially.

Am sure people have their own problems to deal with, either it be financial, education-wise, family-wise and or spiritual-wise.

Hounding about the problems of others to mitigate one's own flaws is sardonic, let alone reprobate.

child-bearer
disciplinarian
quiet
emotional, but does not show it openly
proud of his family
proud of his hard work
proud of his GOD
A Lion when awokened

Think about the hundreds of thousands of Filipino Males that are abroad--in Saudi and the Middle East. Many of whom only come back to the Phils once and a while, but constantly send money to send the children to college, food for the family etc.

That is sacrifice. One thing I know about Filipino Males, especially that of my father and my father's generation--is their unassailable love and duty to Family.

Either they be Engineers, Physicians, Shipmate, Marketing, etc.

I have alot of respect for the Filipino Man. To which, I am proud to be part of. :)

The startling case of an AIDS patient who underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia is stirring new hope that gene-therapy strategies on the far edges of AIDS research might someday cure the disease.

The patient, a 42-year-old American living in Berlin, is still recovering from his leukemia therapy, but he appears to have won his battle with AIDS. Doctors have not been able to detect the virus in his blood for more than 600 days, despite his having ceased all conventional AIDS medication. Normally when a patient stops taking AIDS drugs, the virus stampedes through the body within weeks, or days.

"I was very surprised," said the doctor, Gero Hütter.

The breakthrough appears to be that Dr. Hütter, a soft-spoken hematologist who isn't an AIDS specialist, deliberately replaced the patient's bone marrow cells with those from a donor who has a naturally occurring genetic mutation that renders his cells immune to almost all strains of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

The development suggests a potential new therapeutic avenue and comes as the search for a cure has adopted new urgency. Many fear that current AIDS drugs aren't sustainable. Known as antiretrovirals, the medications prevent the virus from replicating but must be taken every day for life and are expensive for poor countries where the disease runs rampant. Last year, AIDS killed two million people; 2.7 million more contracted the virus, so treatment costs will keep ballooning.

While cautioning that the Berlin case could be a fluke, David Baltimore, who won a Nobel prize for his research on tumor viruses, deemed it "a very good sign" and a virtual "proof of principle" for gene-therapy approaches. Dr. Baltimore and his colleague, University of California at Los Angeles researcher Irvin Chen, have developed a gene therapy strategy against HIV that works in a similar way to the Berlin case. Drs. Baltimore and Chen have formed a private company to develop the therapy.

Back in 1996, when "cocktails" of antiretroviral drugs were proved effective, some researchers proposed that all cells harboring HIV might eventually die off, leading to eradication of HIV from the body -- in short, a cure. Those hopes foundered on the discovery that HIV, which integrates itself into a patient's own DNA, hides in so-called "sanctuary cells," where it lies dormant yet remains capable of reigniting an infection.

But that same year, researchers discovered that some gay men astonishingly remained uninfected despite engaging in very risky sex with as many as hundreds of partners. These men had inherited a mutation from both their parents that made them virtually immune to HIV.

The mutation prevents a molecule called CCR5 from appearing on the surface of cells. CCR5 acts as a kind of door for the virus. Since most HIV strains must bind to CCR5 to enter cells, the mutation bars the virus from entering. A new AIDS drug, Selzentry, made by Pfizer Inc., doesn't attack HIV itself but works by blocking CCR5.

About 1% of Europeans, and even more in northern Europe, inherit the CCR5 mutation from both parents. People of African, Asian and South American descent almost never carry it.

Dr. Hütter, 39, remembered this research when his American leukemia patient failed first-line chemotherapy in 2006. He was treating the patient at Berlin's Charité Medical University, the same institution where German physician Robert Koch performed some of his groundbreaking research on infectious diseases in the 19th century. Dr. Hütter scoured research on CCR5 and consulted with his superiors.

Finally, he recommended standard second-line treatment: a bone marrow transplant -- but from a donor who had inherited the CCR5 mutation from both parents. Bone marrow is where immune-system cells are generated, so transplanting mutant bone-marrow cells would render the patient immune to HIV into perpetuity, at least in theory.

There were a total of 80 compatible blood donors living in Germany. Luckily, on the 61st sample he tested, Dr. Hütter's colleague Daniel Nowak found one with the mutation from both parents.

To prepare for the transplant, Dr. Hütter first administered a standard regimen of powerful drugs and radiation to kill the patient's own bone marrow cells and many immune-system cells. This procedure, lethal to many cells that harbor HIV, may have helped the treatment succeed.

The transplant specialists ordered the patient to stop taking his AIDS drugs when they transfused the donor cells, because they feared the powerful drugs might undermine the cells' ability to survive in their new host. They planned to resume the drugs once HIV re-emerged in the blood.

But it never did. Nearly two years later, standard tests haven't detected virus in his blood, or in the brain and rectal tissues where it often hides.

The case was presented to scientists earlier this year at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections. In September, the nonprofit Foundation for AIDS Research, or amFAR, convened a small scientific meeting on the case. Most researchers there believed some HIV still lurks in the patient but that it can't ignite a raging infection, most likely because its target cells are invulnerable mutants. The scientists agreed that the patient is "functionally cured."

Caveats are legion. If enough time passes, the extraordinarily protean HIV might evolve to overcome the mutant cells' invulnerability. Blocking CCR5 might have side effects: A study suggests that people with the mutation are more likely to die from West Nile virus. Most worrisome: The transplant treatment itself, given only to late-stage cancer patients, kills up to 30% of patients. While scientists are drawing up research protocols to try this approach on other leukemia and lymphoma patients, they know it will never be widely used to treat AIDS because of the mortality risk.

There is a potentially safer alternative: Re-engineering a patient's own cells through gene therapy. Due to some disastrous failures, gene therapy now "has a bad name," says Dr. Baltimore. In 1999, an 18-year-old patient died in a gene therapy trial. Even one of gene therapy's greatest successes -- curing children of the inherited "bubble boy" disease -- came at the high price of causing some patients to develop leukemia.

Gene therapy also faces daunting technical challenges. For example, the therapeutic genes are carried to cells by re-engineered viruses, and they must be made perfectly safe. Also, most gene therapy currently works by removing cells, genetically modifying them out of the body, then transfusing them back in -- a complicated procedure that would prove too expensive for the developing world. Dr. Baltimore and others are working on therapeutic viruses they could inject into a patient as easily as a flu vaccine. But, he says, "we're a long way from that."

Expecting that gene therapy will eventually play a major role in medicine, several research groups are testing different approaches for AIDS. At City of Hope cancer center in Duarte, Calif., John Rossi and colleagues actually use HIV itself, genetically engineered to be harmless, to deliver to patients' white blood cells three genes: one that inactivates CCR5 and two others that disable HIV. He has already completed the procedure on four patients and may perform it on another.

One big hurdle: doctors can't yet genetically modify all target cells. In theory, HIV would kill off the susceptible ones and, a victim of its own grim success, be left only with the genetically engineered cells that it can't infect. But so far that's just theory. All Dr. Rossi's patients remain on standard AIDS drugs, so it isn't yet known what would happen if they stopped taking them.

In 1989, Dr. Rossi had a case eerily similar to the one in Berlin. A 41-year-old patient with AIDS and lymphoma underwent radiation and drug therapy to ablate his bone marrow and received new cells from a donor. It is not known if those cells had the protective CCR5 mutation, because its relation to HIV hadn't been discovered yet. But after the transplant, HIV disappeared from the patient's blood. The patient died of his cancer 47 days after the procedure. Autopsy tests from eight organs and the tumor revealed no HIV.

Poems and Poets / The Raven
May 30, 2009, 10:17:51 AM
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more,'

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
`Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!'
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
`Surely,' said I, `surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!'

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door -
Bird or beast above the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as `Nevermore.'

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before -
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.'
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
`Doubtless,' said I, `what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore -
Till the dirges of his hope that melancholy burden bore
Of "Never-nevermore."'

But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird and bust and door;
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore -
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking `Nevermore.'

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
`Wretch,' I cried, `thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil! -
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted -
On this home by horror haunted - tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us - by that God we both adore -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels named Lenore?'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!' I shrieked upstarting -
`Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken! - quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

The scent of a woman is alluring enough. Imagine that scent synergized with the scent of lavender, or ocean mint, or the flowers that bloom on spring's dawn.

The eloquence of her scent--this fiesty thing we men call "Woman"

Again, we owe it to HIM to give HIM time. Even if it is just a small  or short prayer everyday. A sincere relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ really does---Move Mountains.

I used to think Katrina was cute.

After this incident, my interest for her has fallen. She turned out to be the 'uwagon' type.

The rule of this game is a person types a word.

And the next person will type out his or her views of that word. His or her visualization of the word. It can be anything--it doesn't even have to be a correct definition or categorically similar to the said word. Just type in what comes to mind when you see that particular word.

Got it? Lets start.

I'll go first:

I feel sorry for Hayden, tho. Despite all this drama about him, i cannot help but feel sorry for him. And i do forgive him, and hope and pray that he is able to build up from this.

Logically speaking, and medically speaking---his medical license should be revoked. He has violated the core tenets of the Hippocratic Oath--let alone has ruined his name.

But nevertheless, God has a way in raising the humbled from their humility. Perhaps, Hayden can start his own sex-abuse advocacy group.

Either way, this should be a message and lesson to us all. Too much uwagon uwagon--too much taste of the Devil's temptation can lead to downfall. And this should be a lesson to all of us--because we all have this tendency. Either we admit it or not.

Hayden's case is a clear example.

Christ have mercy on US.

I agree with the Medical Committee in the Philippines about having his medical license stripped.

If an American Physician even so as laid a hand on a patient in anyway sexual-based, he or she would have his or her medical license revoked.

(not including personal damages). And we're looking at anywhere between 2-5 million dollars worth of damages. The insurance settle--no less than 500g, at least.

DAY 6

Ecclesiastes 12:6-7

Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

At death, the spirit of man returns to the giver of life

God is giver of life, human life, all human lives. Short lived or long lived, human lives are lived out in this world. Sooner or later, all people will reach their end. The knock of death is inevitable. All will die. The metaphors for death, even in the above passage from the Old Testament -- the silver cord loosed, the golden bowl broken, the pitcher shattered, the wheel broken, the dust returning to the earth -- are many. But their meaning is clear and singular: all will die. Even so, death is not the absolute end. It is not the end of the story. For life, at its best, does not end in a dark nothingness. We are not forced into existentialism with its crippling angst.

For as certainly as God gave life, at death the life or spirit that God gave returns to God. The Church, thanks to the ancient Greeks and Hebrews, believes that the departed’s return to God is in two movements. First, the soul of the departed goes to be with God. Then, in God’s perfect time, the soul of the departed will be reunited with the resurrected body of the departed for eternity.

These truths of the Christian faith cover the end story of our earthly lives.  By God, we are created. For God, we live our given days. To God, we return at the end of our earthly days. And with God, we live through eternity. Clearly, all along the way, this gracious, loving God is with us. No human life is random or alone. No human life was created without purpose. Not one human life is without destiny. All human lives, acknowledged or not, are related to God -- from beginning, to end, throughout eternity. Therefore, in this world, all human lives are to be respected and protected, for their lives are signs of God’s sovereignty.

O God, we too often try to live in ways that ignore our coming death. We forget that our days are numbered by you, that at the end of our days your judgment awaits, that You are the Lord of our destiny. Help us to repent daily, and then to live each day in joyful obedience. Lead us to live in the light and promise of eternity. Prepare us to live fully and sacrificially. Prepare us to die faithfully and hopefully, so that we might live forever with you. Through Jesus Christ, who has gone before us, we trust and hope and love and pray. Amen.

Amen, brother.

Romans 11: 33-36,
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been his counselor?”
35 “Or who has given a gift to him
that he might be repaid?”

36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

This is an interesting observation, specifically a personal observation--that of Fr. Cimagala's.

My response to Fr. Cimagala:

Dear Fr, I respect your interpretation of the current situation and the trend in the region of the Philippines that you have been ordained to minister to, and your observations of the act of faith of peoples in your current diocese should be noted with respect and understanding--given your years of ministry in the Church.

However, let me kindly infer my own point of view--not anyway cholinergic to that of yours, but to infer a different perspective of the greater male vantage point.

We, as a people--matters not if we are Filipino, American, English, Dutch, Spanish, Indian--etc. As Christian, specificially Catholic-Bible Christians, cannot escape the fact that we are flesh of the flesh and our innate biological iniquities will nevertheless be supine throughout our lifetimes. The spirit is just that--it is the Spirit, it is the transcedentalist visage of our persona--it is the manifestation of the soul, of the body. But our bodily habits, or as what you would refer as our 'biological' traits--are just that. Its just the physical--the shell--it is the programmed intuition that has been elasticized into the persona due to the societal notion of male and female responsibilties, traits and expectations.

Does the physical action define the soul or the spirit of the individual? Not really, it is impossible to ever search deep into anothers' soul and understand that certain individual. Only the Lord God In Heaven, who created all things through Him and For Him. We observe this in the biblical passage of Romans 11: 33-36, "  Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! "For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor?" "Or who has given him anything that he may be repaid?" For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen."

Let me tell share you something, Fr. Cimagala, about myself--I am a 23 year old Filipino-American; a medical student, who feels very connected to the Filipino community here in Southern New Jersey. I tell you, Fr, that every Christmas Season or during the month of May i attend--with my family and friends--the Fiestas for Bohol--specifically for my town of Valencia.

And sometimes my family hosts the celebration of the Blessed Santo Nino, and we have the honor of inviting fellow Valencianons, Boholanos, and fellow Bisayans and Filipino at that. Most of the active participants that ive noticed--are a union of Filipinas and Filipinos. Some of us--the Filipino-American youth are brought up and introduced to this beautiful religious culture of ours. Its a self realization of our roots, of our standard of understanding, and of the time-honored faith that has been given to us as a people, by Grace of God.

My point, Fr Cimagala, is that tho the Filipino male seems to show and visualize his ubiquitous machisimo characte and nature, deep inside that facade of cultural machisimo--is a heart of understanding, a warm and respectful heart that adores and fears his Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ. And adores the Blessed Word of God--that we partake of in our weekly visits at Mass. To partake of His precious body, and his precious blood.

What the eyes and body observes--does not justify nor does it unerstand what it cannot see. For our spirits and our understandings--are hidden from the body and the physical.

To which our Father in Heaven, ALONE, knows and sees. We should live not to impress and to suite the prejudices of others--or to prove a point. But to live our lives and our pilgrimage of Life, which is justified in Christ. We should worry less about what others think and feel about us, rather, we should focus more on doing things that the LORD approves and rejoices in.

Thanks for your understanding, Fr. Cimagala.

Fraternally Yours,
A Brother In Christ,
Bran Lorenzo Lucino Jr.

I am sending you like sheep among wolves. You will be led before governors and kings for my sake. Do not worry about how you are to speak. What you are to say will be given to you at that moment. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

So do not be afraid of them. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed. What I say to you in the dark, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.

Matthew 10: 16-28

Message

Most Christians do not suffer persecution for their faith today. And in those places where Christians are opposed, it is often for social and cultural reasons rather than for matters of faith. But the reason why few are persecuted for their faith is that very few actually live by the radical message of the gospel. There is simply not enough evidence to convict us of being Christians.

If we were to live by the gospel, the world would not stand for it. The world would not stand for our challenging it to live by the will of God rather than by our own will, or to see that all are treated with the dignity and justice they deserve as children of God.

To be a follower of Jesus we must listen attentively to his words. We must reflect and pray in solitude, and ponder the message of the gospel in our hearts. Then when the time comes we must speak out, not necessarily with eloquence or with profound insight, but with the simple, straightforward truth that is given to us by the Spirit.

Reading (Romans 8: 31-39)

If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but handed him over for us, will he not give us everything else along with him? Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who justifies; who is to condemn? It is Jesus Christ, who died and was raised and is at the right hand of the Father, who intercedes for us.

What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? As it is written,

"For your sake we are being slain all the day,
We are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered."

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflection

God chose the most unlikely way to overcome the forces of evil in the world and win salvation for his people. He gave his own Son up to death to show the depth of his love. When we gaze upon the crucifix, we contemplate the deepest mystery of faith: that God would empty himself and enter fully into the human condition, so that we might be raised up to share in the life of God. If God would do this, surely his love has no limits.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

--Proverbs 3:5-6

I will quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.
I will quit focusing on self-preservation and be willing to take risks.
I will quit trying to be who I am not and start being myself.
I will quit holding out or holding back.
I will quit running away.
I will burn sinful bridges and blaze new trails.
I will not let what's wrong with me keep me from worshipping what's right with God.
I will go after the dream He's given me that's "God-sized" enough to fail without Him.
I will stop complaining and find creative ways to be part of the solution.
I will step out of my comfort zone and value every experience â€" even the difficult ones.
I will worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks.
I will follow Him wherever He leads me.

Justified In Christ,

Lorenzo

Chapter 3: Our Life Is Given by God

John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Divine life, in relationship, creates human life

“In the beginning" was God.  Always, before all times, there was God. This particular God -- the God of the Bible, the God of St. John’s Gospel -- is different from all other gods. This God is alive and full of life. This God is not the picture of deadness and death, aloneness and isolation. This God is the picture of life, relationship, and unity. For within this God, within this one God, there are three divine persons who live, who love, and who work -- together. This is the glorious mystery of the Trinity. The Trinity means divine life. The Trinity means three, living Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- who relate to each other. The Trinity means mutual love and service among three Persons.

The Word was always with God the Father. This Word was, is, and will be the Trinity’s second person. The Word is also the Son of God or, as revealed in time, Jesus Christ. God the Father and God the Son were never, and are not, self-concerned and self-absorbed Persons. Rather, they live, love, and work for each other. As one, they create "all things" together: the Father creates all things, including all human life, through the Son.

So the Father, through the Son, creates all lives, all human lives, all people. The little one swimming in his mother’s womb, the infant smiling in his father’s arms, the child crying in pain in a hospital bed, the energetic teen running another mile, the old man gasping for his last breath -- all were created, at their beginning, by the Father through the Son.  No exceptions.  Divine life creates human life.

O God, may we always be quick to call you Father. And when we call you father, help us to remember that, because of your creating love, we are your children. Also, when we call you Father, let your Spirit remind us that all people, from their beginning to their last day, are your children as well. We praise you, Father, that you sent your Son to reveal to the world that all people are His brothers and sisters, that all people are your children. Through Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen.
