The 'Bodyscapes' project, to now be documented in a publication, establishes a clear and unadulterated reverence to something shared by all, creating corporeal experiences that extend beyond to that of the natural cosmos and defining the sometimes forgotten innate relationship with the two.

'Rather than being a mere recording of an encounter between event and photographer, the photograph is an event of its own: long prepared, and yet full of unexpected moments; a still manifestation of an encounter between desert light, body light and camera eye.'

'In working with the bare and painted body, I am also working with the demands and challenges of a body-mind state that I call 'not twoâ€"many twos'. For example, without clothes the body regains its undivided primary nature, being intricately part of the forces of the universe. One and many. The visual works I come up with are thus a continual experiment of how we physically, rhythmically relate to this universe from the specific, intimate bodyhouse.'

He explains his understanding, motivation and expression of the human form behind his compositions:

'Arising in each visual event conceived are the geometries generated by the body as a determinant of 'negative space'â€" not the background of the figure and the field surrounding it, but the space that makes composition and framing possible in photography. as an organizer of space, the body also serves as a primary measuring unit, by which one perceives and constructs one’s environment. Such an approach can be linked to the practices of literally using the body as a first unit of measurement, which were not only common to the building of vernacular architecture around the world but were also at work in the temples of India, Egypt and Greece, for example.'

August 3, 2012

Jean Paul Bourdier is a California-based photographer who reminds us in his work that we are all part of the nature and even more than being a mere part of it, he is trying to say that bare human body is the basic and original means of measuring the world. He concentrates on the beauty and geometry of the human body, combining landscape and flesh as a canvas to create a visual union.

Philippine interior minister missing in light plane crash: army
Reuters â€" 45 mins ago

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippine interior minister and two others went missing after a light plane carrying them crashed at sea off a central island on Saturday, an army spokesman said.

A search for the plane and its passengers was called off late on Saturday because it was too dark and the water too deep for craft available, police said.

Jesse Robredo was on his way to his hometown in the central Camarines Sur province from Cebu when the propeller-driven Cessna plane he was on malfunctioned and the pilots decided to land at the nearest air field on Masbate island.

Robredo, 54, is an ally of President Benigno Aquino.

Witnesses saw the plane plunging into the water, about 500 meters (1,640 feet) from the runway. Robredo's police escort was rescued by fishermen and brought to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

"They were not able to make it to the airport," Colonel Generoso Bolina, an army spokesman told reporters, saying they immediately sent search and rescue teams but could not find any wreckage.

Local television said Robredo was on the phone with his wife hours before the plane went down, saying the propeller had stopped working.

Robredo, 2 others missing in Masbate plane crash

NAGA CITY, Philippines â€" Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo was declared missing after the plane carrying him and two others crashed in the waters off Masbate City at about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Aside from Robredo, reported missing amid a search-and-rescue operation mounted by both the Coast Guard and Masbate local officials were the still unidentified pilots, according to Colonel Generoso Bolina of the Southern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in a separate interview with INQUIRER.net in Manila.

A survivor was found. He was identified as Jun Abrazado, an aide to Robredo, said lawyer Dominina Rances, executive assistant of Robredo, in a phone interview.

Chief Superintendent Arne delos Santos, police director for Region 5, said that Abrazado was plucked off the waters off Masbate after the plane crashed three kilometers from the airport. Abrazado told authorities that Robredo was not able to get out of the aircraft.

Superintendent Jeffrey Mendez, deputy provincial director of Masbate, said that Abrazado insisted on going back to where the aircraft crashed but had to be taken back to a hospital due to his injuries.

The private plane, described as a six-seater, was heading for Naga City, Robredo’s hometown, from Cebu when the pilot sent a distress call to the Masbate Airport at around 5 p.m. requesting for an emergency landing.

Citing initial reports, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines  (Caap) head William Hotchkiss said the plane that crashed was a company plane that took off from Cebu at 3 p.m.

Robredo was in Cebu for the national summit of the Convenors of the Community Investigative Support (CIS) National Summit and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City.

Undersecretary for Peace and Order Rico Puno said in radio interviews that Robredo was onboard the Piper Seneca plane and said that he was with the DILG chief at the Cebu convention. He said that Robredo had initially booked a flight with Cebu Pacific but eventually flew onboard the plane which was owned by one of the pilots.

Robredo is one of the members of the Cabinet closest to President Benigno Aquino III and helped his election campaign in 2010.

It is memorably summed up by Bogart in the film, when he says to the jury who will decide if Nick is executed: “Until we do away with the type of neighborhood that produced this boy, ten will spring up to take his place, a hundred, a thousand. Until we wipe out the slums and rebuild them, knock on any door and you may find Nick Romano.”

Quotation expert Ralph Keyes speculates in his book The Quote Verifier that Motley may have been “recycling street talk” when he wrote the line “Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse.”

I did some extensive online searching and found uses and variations of the phrase “live fast and die young” dating back to the early 1900s.

But I didn’t find any uses of the longer saying mentioning a corpse prior to the publication of Knock on Any Door. So, I think Motley’s book probably is the origin of that fatalistic slogan.

Personally, I prefer the Ricky Gervais variation. In an episode of The Office (the original BBC series), he says: “You know that old thing, live fast, die young? Not my way. Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old! That’s the way. Not orthodox. I don’t live by ‘the rules’ you know.”

8)
#37274
However, Nick’s motto was first used two years earlier in the book the film was based on, Knock on Any Door by the African-American novelist Willard Motley (1912-1965).

In Motley’s 1947 novel, Nick Romano says his motto several times.

Back then, it was unusual for an African-American author to write a book in which the central characters were white. But Motley was ahead of his time in terms of color-blind thinking and the book became a popular bestseller.

When some color-sensitive critics complained about a “Negro” writing about white folks, Motley responded: “My race is the human race.”

Indeed, that empathetic concept is a central theme of the book and movie.

It was the first major film role for Derek, who later married and guided the early film career of Bo Derek.

He plays Nick Romano, a young Italian hoodlum from the Chicago slums who is accused of killing a cop. Humphrey Bogart plays his attorney, Andrew Morton.

In the film, Nick tells his girlfriend that “Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse!” is his motto in life.

This great noir movie is generally given credit as the origin of the famous line â€" which is now usually misquoted as “…leave a good-looking corpse!” (Instead of “have.”)

And, certainly, the movie made it a popular saying (either with “have” or “leave”).
#37278
The real origin of “Live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse!”
http://www.thisdayinquotes.com/

The saying “Live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse!” is often wrongly attributed to actor James Dean.

Dean didn’t actually say it â€" at least not in his movies.

If you’re a classic movie buff, you may know that “Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse!” is actually a famous line said by actor John Derek in the film Knock On Any Door, which premiered on February 21, 1949 and was released nationwide the next day.
