Brigada Eskwela saves DepEd P5.7B

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"The "bayanihan spirit" saved the Department of Education P5.7 billion in repair costs last year, according to Secretary Jesli Lapus.

DepEd reported that it saved all that money because more than five million Filipinos volunteered to repair and clean up the schools in their communities, Lapus said in a statement.

Lapus said this was the result of the department’s Brigada Eskwela program, which mobilizes local governments, non-government associations and private businesses to lend a hand in the upkeep of schools in time for the school opening in June.

Lapus said the program achieved results in all 44,619 school communities in 2008, up from only 31 percent in 2003

The savings amounted to P2.9 billion worth of community maintenance and operating costs; P1.6 billion worth of volunteer time and labor man-hours; and P1.2 billion worth of donations-in-kind.

Lapus announced awards for 96 schools that mobilized the biggest number of individuals and organizations for the repair of schools.

For each of the 16 regions, three elementary schools and three secondary schools were selected as awardees, which were also categorized according to size.

DepEd also gave “hall of fame” awards to 16 schools that have topped the awards for three consecutive years.

Brigada Eskwela is spearheaded by DepEd’s Adopt-A-School Program which facilitates DepEd’s partnership with the private sector.

Lapus lauded school principals whom he described as school managers who “can create a ripple effect of the Bayanihan spirit in the community.”

“Engage all sectors of the community -- local businesses, the parents, the local government units and non-government organizations. Inform them of your current efforts and needs,” Lapus said.

The Philippines has been criticized for not allocating bigger resources to education.

SAINT VINCENT FERRER
Thaumaturge, Dominican Missionary
(1357-1419)
Feast Day â€" April 5

This wonderful apostle, the “Angel of the Judgment,” was born at Valencia in Spain in 1357. At the age of eighteen, he was professed in the Order of Saint Dominic. After a brilliant course of study he became Master of Sacred Theology, and began to preach. For three years he read only the Sacred Scriptures, and came to know the entire Bible by heart. He brought the light of Christ to the Jews of Valencia, and their synagogue became a church.

His titles include: Doctor of theology, Priest, and Missionary.  He taught theology.  He was an Adviser to the King of Aragon and a Counselor to Pope Benedict XIII.  He traveled throughout Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy to end the Great Schism, and was instrumental in reconciling the divisions in the Church at the time of “the three popes.”

Grief at the great schism then afflicting the Church reduced him to the point of death at the age of forty, but Our Lord Himself whom he saw in glory, healed him and bade him go forth to convert sinners, “for My judgment is near.” In the language of Scripture, a judgment is a time of trial during which the good become better by prayer and abandonment to God’s Providence, and the impious blaspheme. The judgment which was to fall upon Europe, the rending of the robe of Christ through the still greater fragmentation of the Church, would follow soon after Saint Vincent’s time; his passage preserved large numbers of souls from its fatal dangers.

This virtually miraculous apostolate lasted twenty-one years. He preached throughout Western Europe, in the towns and villages of Spain, Switzerland, France, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland. Everywhere tens of thousands of sinners were reformed. Infidels, heretics, Jews were enlightened and warmed by the Sun of Justice. Stupendous miracles enforced his words. Twice each day the “miracle bell” summoned the sick, the blind, the lame to be cured, and the most obdurate sinners became Saints. Speaking only his native Spanish, he was understood in all tongues. Processions of ten thousand penitents followed him in perfect order. Convents, orphanages, hospitals, arose where he passed.

Amid all the honors which came to him, his humility remained profound, his prayer constant. He always made prayer his principal preparation for preaching. Once, however, when a person of high rank was to be present at his sermon, he neglected prayer for study. The nobleman was not particularly struck by the discourse which had been thus carefully laid out. But he came again to hear the Saint, and the second sermon, for which Saint Vincent’s supplications before the Crucifix were the preparation, made a deep impression on his soul. When Saint Vincent heard of his reaction, he remarked that in the first sermon it was Vincent who had preached, but in the second, Jesus Christ.

Saint Vincent fell ill at Vannes in Brittany, and received the crown of everlasting glory in 1419.

Dear Lord,
You know my friend/family member so much better than I do. You know his/her sickness and the burden he carries. You also know his heart. Lord, I ask you to be with my friend now, working in his life. Let your will be done in my friend's life. If there is a sin that needs to be confessed and forgiven, Lord, please help him to see his need and confess. Lord, I pray for my friend because your Word says I should pray for his healing. I believe you hear this earnest prayer from my heart and that it is powerful because of your promise. I have faith in you to heal my friend, but I also trust in the plan you have for his life. Lord, I don't always understand your ways, and why my friend has to suffer, but I trust you. I ask that you look with mercy and grace toward my friend. Nourish his spirit and soul in this time of suffering and comfort him with your presence. Let my friend know you are there with him through this difficulty. And may you be glorified in his life and also in mine.
Amen .

Coconut Oil and its
Wonderful Health Benefits
What is virgin coconut oil and what could it do for you?
The Healthiest Oil On Earth
The Healthy Side of Natural Fats
Know Your Fats - Weston A. Price Foundation

Coconut oil has been used for centuries as a vital source of food for health and general well being in traditional communities of tropical regions. Recent research verifies traditional beliefs that the coconut palm is “The Tree of Life” and that, just like any other pure, whole food, coconuts and virgin coconut oil have a significant role to play in a well balanced, nutritious diet. Abandoning unhealthy lifestyles and reverting to natural foods can help to reverse many of the diseases that have manifested in our bodies through the highly refined diet of our modern society.  This website provides information on the researched health benefits that can be derived from using coconuts and virgin coconut oil in conjunction with a well balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.  Coconut oil as a "functional food".

Medical research is in agreement that at least 30% of our daily nutritional intake should be made up of fats or oil. However, the structures of different oils are as diverse as nature itself and even a basic knowledge of what defines the different classification of fats will help us understand why this classification is so important when choosing oil to augment and support a healthy lifestyle for our children, families and ourselves. Complete article >>>

Research shows that replacing other cooking oils with virgin coconut oil generally creates a more favorable HDL/LDL ratio.  This oil has antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiprotozoal properties and, like all whole foods, contains nutrients for a healthy body.

Saturated Fat ~  A Vital Ingredient for a Healthy Body:  Over many decades coconut oil received bad publicity due to its saturated fat content, but research has shown that not all saturated fats are alike and coconut oil is unique in its structural make-up.  It is not only the highest source of saturated fats (92%) but included in this is the highest source of saturated medium chain triglycerides (62%) of any naturally occurring vegan food source. Furthermore around 50% of these MCT’s are made up of lauric acid, the most important essential fatty acid in building and maintaining the body’s immune system.

Apart from coconut oil, the only other source of lauric acid found in such high concentrations is in mother’s milk.  Tropical oils and mother’s milk are by far the richest food sources of medium chain fatty acids available. The closest other source of these vital building blocks for our immune system would be milk fat and butter, comprising around 3% of its content. Any other vegetable oil is completely deficient in these medium chain fatty acids.

It should also be remembered that the negative research done on coconut oil in the past was the result of one study conducted four decades ago, using hydrogenated oil (which has been processed and altered from its original form), not on virgin coconut oil.  Research shows that some saturated fat is in fact necessary for human health and modern research shows that the medium chain fatty acids help to increase metabolism and are more easily digested than fats found in other oils.  This is because they are processed directly in the liver and immediately converted into energy.  There is therefore less strain on the liver, pancreas and digestive system and these MCFA provide the body with a wonderful, quick source of energy.  More >>>

For more information on why all saturated fats were heavily promoted as being detrimental to health, please read this article by Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon. It also explains why polyunsaturated fats are damaging to health.

Virgin  v. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Don't be mislead by the term "extra virgin" when used in conjunction with coconut oil.  This term is borrowed from the olive oil industry and there is no such product or existing standard that can be applied to coconut oil production. If you see the term "extra virgin" be assured that it is simply a marketing ploy to encourage you to believe that the oil has something more to offer than virgin coconut oil.

Coconut Oil Capsules
There are a number of companies now selling coconut oil capsules.  In many cases it is recommended that people consume 2 - 4 tablespoons of coconut oil per day.  This would equate to a very large number of capsules if you wish to obtain a therapeutic dose as the capsules only contain a few drops of coconut oil.

My favorite movie character is..

James Bond 007 is a fictional character created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured him in twelve novels and two short story collections.[1] The character has also been used in the longest running and most financially successful English language film franchise to date, starting in 1962 with Dr. No.[2][3][4]

After Fleming's death in 1964, subsequent James Bond novels were written by Kingsley Amis (as Robert Markham), John Pearson, John Gardner, Raymond Benson and Sebastian Faulks. Moreover, Christopher Wood novelised two screenplays, Charlie Higson wrote a series on a young James Bond while other writers have authored unofficial versions of the character.[5]

There have been 22 films in the EON Productions series to date, the most recent of which, Quantum of Solace, was released on 31 October 2008 (UK).[6][7] In addition there has been an American television adaptation and two independent feature productions. Apart from movies and television, James Bond has also been adapted for many other media, including radio plays, comic strips and video games.

The EON Productions films are generally termed as "official" films originating with the purchase of the James Bond film rights by producer Harry Saltzman in the late 1950s.[8]

DOH readies medicine amid swine flu scare

600,000 anti-flu capsules available

By Christian V. Esguerra
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 18:45:00 04/28/2009

Filed Under: Swine Flu, Health, Animals, Government

MANILA, Philippines--The government has readied at least 600,000 capsules of the anti-flu drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu) in the event that the deadly strain of the swine influenza reaches the Philippines.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the Tamiflu stock was good for a total of 60,000 patients.

“But we pray and we hope that not one case will ever occur in our country,” he said in a press conference before Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.

Duque said the public should now be on heightened alert after the World Health Organization raised the alarm on the swine flu virus to “level 4.”

He said the new alert level meant that “there is now a human-to-human virus resulting from the re-assortment and recombination of four other viruses and that is now causing sustained community outbreak.”

“We have to be alarmed because the WHO had already raised the alert level to 4,” he said. “We need to be more observant and stricter in monitoring and screening inbound international passengers in our airports and seaports.”

Oseltamivir remained the primary drug of choice in dealing with the flu virus. But experts fear a better approach would eventually be needed to combat the more lethal virus strain.

Besides the capsules, Duque said the government was also piling up supplies of N95 masks and other protective equipment for "front-line" health workers who would deal with swine flu patients.

He said the National Disaster Coordinating Council was convened to review the government’s “emerging infectious disease preparedness and actual response plan.”

The plan would be implemented if swine flu infection gets closer to the Philippines.

The country was fortunate not to have been affected by past outbreaks in Asia of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and avian flu.

Health officials were hoping that the same vigilance and resolve the country demonstrated during these two events would also keep the Philippines safe from the swine flu.

Duque said the authorities were “stepping up” surveillance, with the help of sentinel sites around the country, to identify possible swine flu cases.

“[We will] take note of unusually high number of deaths that are caused by acute respiratory illness,” he said.

“We need to zero in on these occurrences. We will have to test whether these people had exposures or history of recent travel to affected countries.”

In airports and seaports, he said, authorities have begun using “health declaration checklists” to determine a traveler’s origin, possible exposure to the virus, and symptoms.

Duque said travelers with fever will be evaluated and later taken to facilities such as the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa in case the fever suggested “something serious.”

He said patients could also be accommodated at the San Lazaro Hospital in Manila and the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City.

HISTORY:
.
On   Sept 9, 1991, four believers: Aldrin Lobo, Felix Daray, Federico Sumay and Olegario Banac Sr. gathered at his  residence with his family for a first Sunday worship.  We feel  and led by the Holy Spirit and committed ourselves to spread the gospel to all the world. From that time on up to Dec. 27, 1998,we were a  mission of County Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Paul Magness, the pastor until we became an organized church into the local   new testament church.

In 1995, when Federico Sumay graduated from the seminary  of the   Missionary Baptist Church, Davao City,  he assumed as full time  pastor. Since that time , he has been a dedicated and energetic pastor, well loved and respected by its member and friends. With good harmonious relations, fellowships and other church services, we win more believers which were good tithers and givers. Thus, with the church income, we started the construction of the church building in 1998.

In 2000, we transferred although construction was  still going on. Finally, in  2002 it was completed and  stood as living legacy of our hardships and sacrifices and blessings from the Lord.  It stood now, the FIRST MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OF DIGOS CITY which had linkage to the church founded by Jesus Christ .

COMMITMENT:

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with the teaching of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Digos City, we now feel led by the Holy Spirit to commit our lives to God and to the other members to the following:

1.   WE WILL PROTECT THE UNITY OF OUR CHURCH
….by acting in love toward other members
    ….by refusing to gossip
    ….by  obeying leaders
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual
        edification”. (Romans 14:19)

â€œNow that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so  that  you
have sincere love for your brothers. Love one another deeply, from the heart
          (1 Peter:22)

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths. But only what is
helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefits
                    those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)

â€œObey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you
as men who must give an account. Obey that so that their work will be a joy
not a burden, for that would be of  no advantage    to you ( Hebrews 13:17)
2.   WE WILL SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF OUR CHURCH

Christians firmly believe in eternal life; it is the hope of our salvation. We are assured that if we have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and submitted our present life to Him, then we will enter into everlasting life after we die; the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance of this life. Ephesians 1:13b-14 says, "…you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of his glory."

The glorious resurrection of plants and vegetation year after year has shown us definitively that there is life after death. What is the responsibility of all humans in light of this? How we live our life in the present will determine the "quality" of life after death. In Genesis 2:7 God breathed life into newly created man. In Ezekiel 37:5, God promised to breathe life into the lifeless bones in the valley. It is God who is the author of life, present and future. It is the imperative of all humans to give their lives to Him.

Gitawag kini ug pearl farm kay dunay mga perlas nga gipadako ilalom sa mga kinhason.
This is called "pearl culture."

How the oyster makes pearl?

An oyster secretes a solution to coat any foreign object that enters itside its shell. It is to protect it from infection or any other harm. Often it is only a pebble or particle of sand. It takes a long time to make a good sized pearl because several layers of coating have to gradually be applied. cultured pearls are pearls that are started by a person that inserts a "seed" or small piece of shell inside an oyster.

PERCEPTIONS OF SIN: CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM

First of all, it is necessary to understand what we mean by “sin”. This is important, because different religious communities have different perceptions about sin.
Sin is a concept used primarily in the Abrahamic religions [Judaism, Christianity, and Islam] describing a transgression against the will of God, which calls for repentance and at times penance.

Judaism regards the breaking of the commandments or the Jewish Law to be a sin. The Jews believe that all people sin at various points in their lives, and hold that the divine justice is tempered with divine mercy.

According to them, a state of sin does not condemn a person to damnation; only one or two truly grievous sins lead to anything like the Christian idea of hell. Their liturgy of “the Days of Awe” states that prayer, repentance and charity are the means of atonement for sin.

As for Protestant Christians use the term ‘sin’ primarily to refer to what they see as “humanity's inherently sinful nature”. This is while the Catholics mostly use the word for actual instances of sin, calling “the sinful nature of humans” as “concupiscence”, in the sense of ‘an innate tendency of human beings to do evil’.

Most denominations of Christianity hold the belief that the sin of Adam and Eve's disobedience to God is passed on to their descendants and thus the whole of mankind is accursed with that Original Sin, from which no salvation is possible unless one believes in the atoning death on the cross of the Son of God.

As for the Islamic view of sin, it is similar to the Jewish view. In fact, the religion of Islam is the natural culmination of the progressive revelation of God from the very first prophet to the last one, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Consequently, Islam believes in all prophets of God, from Adam to Muhammad, including Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all).

According to the Islamic creed, the original religion taught by all these prophets is and was always Islam, which is the peaceful submission to the One and Only God. Thus, the concept of sin as taught by all prophets of God ought to be the same.

The closeness between Judaism and Islam in this regard is obvious; but in Christianity we find a great difference, which results from the influence of Saul of Tarsus, who is later known as St Paul. Paul introduced into Christianity the ideas of ‘God becoming man’ and ‘God dying for the sins of man’. Such concepts are entirely alien to the Semitic religious tradition and considered ‘pagan’, according to the Islamic view.

In Islam, a sin is an act against the will of Allah. We have the ability to abide by His will and this is the meaning of the word Islam. Still we have the ability to ignore His will or deliberately oppose it; due to the fact that God has given us freedom - though within limits).

Islam is our conscious and peaceful submission to the will of Allah. The purpose of our existence as human beings is to worship and serve Allah â€" or to fulfill His will. And, a solid foundation of worshipping Allah is to show gratitude to Him for the great gifts He has granted us. Following this will bring us the greatest benefits in this life and the next. It is in trying to do this that our intentions are purified and it is by our intentions that we are judged.

In contrast to the Christian teaching that human nature is basically evil [owing to the Original Sin], Islam teaches that it is essentially good. There are many elements to Human nature and each one has the potential to bring benefits. So there is no "Original Sin" in Islam. It is that when Man contradicts God’s commandments or His will, he commits sins.

Adam committed such a sin, which led to his expulsion from the Garden of Eden. But Adam repented and prayed to God for forgiveness, which God granted him, as mentioned in the following in Surah 2, verse 37:

*{Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord turned towards him; for He is Oft-returning, Most Merciful.}*

This means that unlike Christianity, which teaches that all the children of Adam are sinful for Adam’s sin, Islam teaches that all humans are innocent by birth and they become sinful only when they consciously commit a sin. Islam regards the concept of “original sin” and the need for atonement by God Himself - via dying on the Cross - as a pure invention of those who came after Jesus Christ, declaring themselves as Christians.

Another important point to bear in mind about the Islamic concept of sin is that one man’s sin cannot be transferred to another; nor can the reward due to a person be transferred either. Every individual is responsible only for his or her actions, for God is never unjust. This is made clear in the following in Surah 17, verse 15:
*{Who receiveth guidance, receiveth it for his own benefit: who goeth astray doth so to his own loss. No bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another: nor would We punish until We had sent a messenger [to give warning].}*

Every individual is an independent person who is responsible for his or her actions alone. There is no need for salvation from sin, for there is no original burden. One's success in the Hereafter lies in his living a righteous life in this world. Each has to build his/her own Heaven, avoiding the misery of Hell. Faith is important, but faith alone without deeds will be fruitless.

And, Allah knows best.

You are here: God >> How To Be Saved

How to be saved -- Why does man need to be saved?
How to be saved is the most important quest of any human life. This quest begins when a man or woman first realizes their true state before a holy God.

The intimate and sweet fellowship that the Father longed for with man, the crown of His creation, was lost when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s commandment in the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve sinned they lost their right to eat of the tree of life which would have enabled them to live forever. They were expelled from the garden and as such denied the loving relationship that God desired to have with them. Their sinful state made them unfit to linger in the presence of God. Far from being a minor event, this Fall and expulsion of man was the cataclysmic turning point of history and set humanity on a descent which continues to this day.

Man without God makes his own plans, follows his own counsels and lives by his own rules. Nevertheless, because man was created for fellowship with God, there remains a dissatisfaction and longing within man that can only be fulfilled by God Himself. As man is now hopelessly decadent and God is perfectly holy, there exists the need for God and man to be reconciled so that the fellowship may be restored.

How to be saved -- What has God provided for man’s salvation?

How to be saved has been outlined for every man in the preaching of the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ. “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. . .” (2 Corinthians 5:19). God, fully knowing that man would fall, provided a means of reconciliation for man; He knew that there was nothing that a man could do to make mankind acceptable to God.

God sent Jesus Christ, who provided restoration for man with God by giving His own life, shedding His own blood. There was no other way to eradicate the effect of sin except by blood. “. . .Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). This shedding of blood indicated that the penalty for sin had been paid; a life had been sacrificed for the lives of all who have sinned. Jesus Christ’s willing submission to the massacre on the cross paid the price for our sins and affected the means of reconciliation. “Because one person disobeyed God, many people became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many people will be made right in God's sight” (Romans 5:19).

How to be saved -- What must a man do to be saved?
How to be saved is within the reach of every human being on the face of the earth. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He provided salvation for all. “‘And when I am lifted up on the cross, I will draw everyone to myself.’ He said this to indicate how he was going to die” (John 12:32-33). Salvation has been provided; it now must be accepted. Once a man or woman recognizes the need for salvation and realizes that God has provided for their salvation through Jesus Christ, he or she must go on to embrace it.

Salvation is simply a process of confessing and believing. A man must confess that Jesus is Lord, which signifies his realization that Christ must have full rule over his life with all of His righteous requirements. This confession of Christ as Lord also assumes that it is Christ who will work and fulfill His own righteousness within man.

Next, he must believe that God has raised Jesus Christ from the dead. This belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus carries with it the realization that the penalty has been paid for sin and power is provided for man to live a life free from sin. Thus man’s relationship to God is restored. “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Bible tells us, “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved” (Romans 10:9-11). Do you feel unworthy to “go to heaven”? Peace with God is within your reach.

Do you understand that you are a sinner, and you believe that Jesus Christ came as the one and only Redeemer of sin? Are you ready to receive God’s gift of His Son, Jesus Christ? If so, believe in Christ, repent of your sins, and commit the rest of your life to Him as Lord:

“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”
"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)

If you decided receive Jesus today, welcome to God's family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
Find a local church where you can worship God.

It is a sad hapenning that until now, this is not implemented. When a govt employee retires ,
the GSIS is still deducting  premium in arears from their  retirement  benefits.

The GSIS is still the most corrupt agency.
