Not meaning to chastise you C2H4, just was surprised.

Also 2 wrongs don't make a right.(your mention of those other sins)

Oh, but I was merely trying to point out that some people are crazy. Crazy people, anywhere in the world, don't even need a reason to kill. They just do. The Filipinos are no exception. There are some crazy filipinos out there. Are you American? I'm sure there are crazy Americans too...(e.g. Britney Spears)

But I am with you on this, Mr Franklin. I am righteously outraged. But I choose to channel my rage in my own way. It might not suit other people's sensibilities, the way I react to things, but it doesn't make me wrong. Or right. It just makes me who I am.

With regards to this 16 yr old boy who was killed, at least the suspect is in custody. He has confessed. And that accusation about the boy raping the girl? The medico legal who'll examine her will soon shed light on this. I believe justice will be served this time. The killer will be punished.

Could it be nga mawala atong pagka tapulan kung maka abot ta sa laing lugar? Or could it be, tungod kay komportable na kaayo ta sa atong yutang natawhan, wala na ta'y effort nga manikay sikay?

Or siguro, tsamba lang gyud?

They're convenient targets, if we could blame the weather on the politicians, we would.

Lahi Lahi gyud ug style.

With regards to the topic, na puzzle pud ko bahin anang gi ingon nga komunismo sa Bohol. Growing up in Sagbayan, nakakita ko'g mga NPA once or twice. Ambot unsa'y sinugdanan ani nila. So siguro, the NPA is against anyone who seems to be oppressing the people.

Ang mga taga Papua New Guinea man gani, ga kutkot ra ug ubi, wala'y kuryente, ga bahag ra sila, unya daghan pa gyud lamok nga maka malaria, malipayon man sila sa ilang kahimtang.

Maybe we need to re-define our view on happiness. Maybe our public servants need to start programs that remind our people the value of simplicity, that eating kamote with ginamos is not necessarily a bad thing.

Quote from: Franklin on September 23, 2007, 05:29:15 AM
I was a little surprised you would make a joke in this thread where it was mentioned that someone was stabbed or killed for his cellphone.
I guess that killing someone for a cellphone has become so commonplace that people joke about it.

Mr Franklin, I did not mean to joke. I'm sorry if it came off that way. That was callous of me.

Murder is not something to laugh about. I had a classmate in high school who was stabbed to death for her cellphone, and I was righteously outraged.

But being a man of the world, as I assume you are, you should also know that people have killed for much less.

Like that man in NY who pushed a teenage girl at the subway for apparently no reason at all. Or that man in Cebu who stabbed another person because he didn't like the way the other person looked. Or that man in Manila who stabbed (with an icepick) the person next to him in the jeepney because he couldn't stand the other person's body odor. How about that au pair who shook a baby to death because the baby wouldn't stop crying? How about the man who killed Jon Bennet Ramsey? who knows what his reason was for killing her...Or how about Hitler, killing off the Jews?

I will never joke about these things. But I also acknowledge that the world is as it is, and people are who they are. Mr Franklin, if you stress yourself out every time a crime happens, you will give yourself a heart attack. And that in itself is a crime, because Tubag Bohol will have lost a brilliant mind.

People have always killed and murdered each other. And we will continue to kill and murder each other until North Korea's crazy leader lets loose his nuclear toys and blows the world to bits. Or until Jesus' second coming. Whichever comes first.

#3650
Mr Admin, not having a laude with your degree, does not make you any less intelligent.

Although a laude certainly lends you tremendous bragging rights (and notoriety), what matters is how effective you are outside the classroom.

A cousin of mine graduated summa cum laude from the Ateneo, and was 1st place in the national board exams, but now finds himself unemployed. Sadly, he couldn't be as effective in his career as he was in the classroom.

And also I know a Bol-anon who was a 2nd-yr high school dropout who now has several laudes working for him, sa iyang kumpanya.

As to what I could teach Gloria, maybe I could teach her this:

When your husband is unfaithful and cheats on you regularly, kick his a** out. You won't be the first separada in the world, and you won't be the last. You'll run the country better without a deadbeat husband weighing you down.

Of course, this is not to say Mike Arroyo is a deadbeat. I am speaking purely from a rhetorical perspective.

always use some protection! always bring you condoms!

Condoms can break. They can rupture.

The ideal thing is to be monogamous. And to require a health certificate from someone, before you go out on a date.

Mao jud Miss Bambs, he is not fulfilling his pre-ordained fate as a man--that of spreading his seed far and wide so our people can multiply and multiply some more.

AIDS is the great equalizer of our times.

It respects no one.

I have come across a couple of HIV patients, and they looked normal and healthy. Dili gyud mailhan sa nawong. And I must admit, upon learning they were positive, medyo na shock ko, maybe because I had this silly notion that they'd somehow be different.

Karon ra jud nako na realize that STDs are really so much more common than we think. And the percentage of young, young people with STDs is alarming and depressing. The prevalence in that age group is so high.

I wish naa na'y maka diskubre ug cure for HIV, or at least, a vaccine for it, like the one they have now for HPV.

But in the meantime, I hope our young people would be more careful and more selective with their sexual partners.

Looks can be deceiving.

Business and Economy / Re: Who is the good entrepreneur?
September 23, 2007, 03:15:21 AM
From the post, it seems like it was talking about the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people.

They are natural entrepreneurs.

I wonder if race or genetics has something to do with this?

Although there are some outstanding Filipino entrepreneurs, the Filipinos in general, are not natural businessmen.

This is proven when we go out of our comfort zone, and migrate to other countries. In the US, the majority of the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans own businesses. Filipinos? gamay ra kaayo...I've also observed that Filipinos abroad are more inclined towards high-paying white-collar jobs. Mas komportable siguro ta working jobs than owning businesses?

We probably like being called professionals (doctors, nurses, engrs) more than being called business-owners.

Crimes against Filipinos by Filipinos.
There was recently an event here in my state where a very young woman who was supporting her family back in the Philippines was hired by a diplomat(filipino) to be a domestic in his home in California. After the young woman arrived in California from the Philippines she was told that the Philippine diplomat didn't need her, and she was told to go to work for a relative of the diplomat in New Jersey.
After arriving in New Jersy she was basically put under lock and key and was not allowed to go outside of the house. She was fed and paid little. This fairly rich Filipina(where she lives tells me that she has money) kept the young woman prisoner.
Only after a delivery person saw the young woman and somehow the young woman asked for help, was she set free when the police came.
The US governement is giving her rooma and board now and arrangements are being made for her to have decent employment, and be able to stay here legally.

Mr Franklin, as you should know, there is a caste system in the Philippines. There is a clear divide between rich and poor. I have witnessed some rich families who treat their maids/helpers like dogs.

Parents need to know that their children have their own dreams, and don't necessarily want to take-over their carenderia business sa merkado when they die.

Aha! This gives me an Idea to build a "Home for the Aged" in Bohol, where rich pensioners could spend thier dollars in a 5 star resort type, ultimate service retirement home instead of a hospital type, low service retirement camp back in the US.

I really think that's a great idea, Mr Ferniz. Mo apply unya ko kung naa na ka'y home for the aged.
#3697
Miss Melrose, your post was spot-on. I agree with you a hundred percent. Bohol is poor. I mean, maybe 95% of the population, pobre. As a person who belongs to a family that has migrated to other parts of the country, in search of a better life, I see the difference...sa standards of living. I often ask the Bol-anons I know, "nganong ning bakwit man mo dire sa Mindanao?"...their answer, "day, perteng lisora sa Bohol. Lisod mangita ug panginabuhian".

There are not enough jobs to go around. The agriculture industry is antiquated. There's not enough commerce. There are not enough businesses. There is not enough industrialization.

When I go to Bohol, I feel the poverty. I see the people in the barrios, and I feel the deprivation in their lives. I see the Bol-anons in Mindanao (Bukidnon in particular, where I migrated  :)), and they are all engaged in businesses, small and medium-scale. They work in different areas...sa mga humayan, mga maisan, mga tubohan, sa mga binggalahan, sa mga pinyahan. There is also enough trade and commerce, nga ang tawo dili mawad-an ug panginabuhian.

Of course, dili man makumpara gyud because Mindanao is one giant land area of inter-connected provinces, while Bohol stands on its own. Pero sa ako lang na obserbahan, the main thing that revitalizes an area's economy is the trade and commerce amongst its people. Ang mga negosyo sa mga tawo. And there is really not enough of that to sustain the people of Bohol right now.

And how to solve this? I don't know.

Let the politicians figure that one out. After all, they're the ones with the fancy schmancy degrees and titles. Mga maayong laki.

You mean cyber sex, sir Macky?

That's like the favorite sport of internet pervs, like the ones you see being arrested on How To Catch a Predator.

;D
#3699
That's a very good idea, Mr Ferniz.

The way things are right now in the country, celebrities would rather vacation in Phuket or Bali. That speaks volumes of the amount of confidence foreigners have in the peace and order situation in the Philippines.

But don't we have that (exclusive vacation place, I mean) already in Amanpulo? I hear it's quite expensive.
