My Christmas Wish:

1. A new apartment for me to live while I start rotations
2. For More of God's Graces to  be showered down upon me.
I know that I will receive HIS grace continually just by prayer alone.
For it is said that if we ask, we shall receive, if we knock, the door shall be opened unto us. If we search, we shall find.

Pero, all I ask jud, is for HIS Presence to remain strong in my life.
I love it. Love it.

It is very humbling.
Today, my classmate Harvey referred to me as , "Dr. Lucino".
I responded, "Harvey, just Al, please."
He reiterated, "In 2 months, Dr., we will receive our white coats. Get used to it now."

It struck me. He is right. In 2 months, we will receive our white coats.
In 2 months, I shall go inside the prestigious Auditorium Medicinae to stand with my cohorts,
and be called each by name.
To receive our honored White Coat of the Physician.
To pave the way to our next 2 years as a Medical Intern.

It has come to me, that I have survived 2 exhausting, trying, demanding years of Medicine.
It was not my own ability that has provided for my success thus far, nay, it was GRACE OF GOD.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY
TO GOD BE THE HONOR
TO GOD BE THE MAJESTY
TO GOD BE THE PRAISE of PRAISES.

For HE has made this average student able to do what I was able to do.
BY GOD'S GRACE, and THROUGH HIS GRACE ALONE, I was able to achieve.

GOD IS GREAT!
WITH MY MOUTH AND MY HEART, I EXALT HIS NAME!
VICTORY IN JESUS CHRIST LORD!
VICTORY!
I CRY OUT VICTORY!

AMEN!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VICTORY, LORD!
VICTORY!

Status:

Finished patient diagnostic reviews for our clinical rotation exams, I was designated to perform CNS examinations, as well as demonstrated reflex, sensory and motor responses on the patients in the floor today.

My performance exceeded my own expectations, by Grace of God, though I was a bit annoyed how one patient was unable to respond to the stimulation of the olecranon process. LMN palsy was probably the causative factor.

Dr. Praveen tried so hard to try to make me second guess my answers and my diagnoses, not so easy to fool me, Doc. Not so easy. ;)

Other than that, reviewed some notes, finished reading 359 pages for Systemic pathology, and read half the PDI text book--not so bad. Piece of cake, by God's Grace.

Then went to lunch at Subway. Had a tuna sub w/ orange juice.

Walked back to the library, doing some more reviews.

My white coat hanging on my chair, with pen on my notes, my cup filled with black coffee.

The march of the Physician continues.

And to GOD BE THE GLORY.
In HIS Name, we can do all things..

I find it quite ironic that Saramago, who is the founder for the National Front for the Defense of Culture in Lisbon, fails to understand that the Holy Bible and its influence in politics, religious cultural arts in the Catholic Church, was pivotal in the safeguarding of European culture from the Dark to the Medieval to the Classical epochs. It is the Holy Bible that was responsible for the increase in literacy rates in Europe in earlier epochs, which later influenced the birth and exponentiation of the Renaissance. Indirectly, one can even attribute the Holy Bible in its teaching within the Church and among private readers, indirectly influenced European Enlightenment, which was a response to the increased literacy rate in Europe--which was facilitated by the Holy Bible and by the religious orders that facilitated in spreading the Good News throughout Europe.

Once Europe was conquored, so would her colonies be conquored--by the power of Faith.

England and her American, Canadian, Indian and African colonies--> will be Christianized
Spain and her Latin American and Philippine colonies --> will be Christianized
etc, etc, etc.

The Bible.
It's rather CULTURAL and RELIGIOUS at the same time. :)

Saramago, go read history.

We have come to see many unexplainable factors and patient outcomes in the hospital floor, from observation alone. We have come into consideration and compliance that the human body, in itself, is a sensitive automon, with delicate tolerance in consideration to maintenance of homeostasis: neural, cardiovascular, lymph, reproductive, genito-urinary etc. When the balance is transgressed, and when the threshold of tolerance is expediated, there will be manifest of perplexities of bodily reaction to stress (intrinsic and/or extrinsic).

The manifest of CNS involvement: neurosis, psychosis, etc, will manifest due to change in blood supply to the CNS and cerebral structures that are responsible for sensory stimulation and perception of stimuli. To the thought of floating, the feeling of contentedness (which is nothing more than over-stimulation of serotinonin and endorphins).

It is in these matters that medicine and faith collide and intertwine, if one can even consider it.

The Lord works wonderfully through science and natural law, which He has ordained manifest through Creation.

He follows Laws that have been breathed into accordance through His very own mouth, which He compels to complete the purposes that He Himself Wills it to until the purpose that it was sent for--is complete. And returns back to Him.

Dear _________

I must say that I love studying with you.
I can concentrate on the right things. lol.
When I am in study mode, though I may be entrenched in the lines and graphs, I can still see you through my peripherals and have watched you via my peripherals, alone. There were times when I observed you staring at me for minutes. I can feel it.
You are, indeed, very intense. I love it. I want it. I crave it.

When you are in my arms, I squeeze you for I cannot bear letting you go.

Shall we study again this weekend?
After exams, maybe.

Till then, I shall be missing you all the more.

Bible Study / Re: Gospel Of The Day
October 20, 2009, 03:16:51 AM
Luke 12:13-21
13 Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” 14 He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” 15 Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of  possessions.” 16 Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. 17 He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ 18 And he said, “This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods 19 and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!” ’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ 21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
---

That truly is a powerful statement. Very powerful. We should not store up riches for when we die, where shall the riches go to? Be rich spiritually, be rich in FAITH. Be rich in GOOD WORKS. Be rich in the WORD OF GOD.

For these things, are the basis of life eternal. Integral to the path of salvation in Jesus Christ LORD.

What benefit does it for a brother if he stores treasures in Earth while he does not store treasures that is in Heaven? This treasure--is Life Eternal. Salvation of The soul that is guaranteed in JESUS CHRIST LORD. And in Christ ALONE.

Then have her hand carress my face. Stroking my beard, as I nibble her fingers gently.

Hebrews 9:27

#35128
My response:

NDE can be a cognitive post-traumatic response to hypoxic injury to the CNS (central nervous system) and due to the decreased blood flow and oxygen to the CNS and the various integral structures within the brain system--can lead to reflex tachycardia, and within oxygen damage from free radicals to the brain--which can lead to the over-production of serotonin (which explains the ethereal feeling effect/ floating feeling) and psychosis due to dopaminergic stimulation.

I am quite leery and cautious in reading such experiences. Though one cannot help but wonder and ponder.

We die only once. We are called only once. Once called--there is no return to the body. For the soul will immediately rise to the heavens to be judged by the Lord God of Hosts.

My opinion ra.

Nuclear as in the isotopes are released, these are actually being utilized in new biomedical implants such as SA-nodes "pace makers" and new biomechanical prosthetics.

These batteries have incredible longevity and will, most definitely, pave the way in medical science, as well as other fields.

Surprisingly, we talked about something like this with my rotation cohorts the other week.

A member asked me a question, regarding the quote from St. Vincent De Paul,
""Strive to live content in the midst of those things that cause your discontent. Free your mind from all that troubles you, God will take care of things. You will be unable to make haste in this [choice] without, so to speak, grieving the heart of God, because he sees that you do not honor him sufficiently with holy trust. Trust in him, I beg you, and you will have the fulfillment of what your heart desires" (St. Vincent de Paul, Letters).

This member asked me what St. Vincent De Paul meant by this quotation? What is the biblical complement to this quotation and what should we take from this said verse?

-----
My response:

Glory be to the Lord God: The Eternal Father, The Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit--who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Whose righteousness is from everlasting to everlasting. Whose wisdom speaks and pierces through every soul it seeketh and wills to awaken. Blessed be God in The Highest! Bless His Name!

Brother, thank you for your question and for addressing this quotation from St. Vincent De Paul, who is the patron of the sick and the impoverished. When we analyze the life of Blessed Vincent De Paul, we realize and understand that his life was that of a follower of Christ. And we are reminded through his works in helping, feeding, clothing, and praying for the poor and ill that it was Christ who willed us to be compassionate towards those who were poor, afflicted, dying, and needy. For we are reminded that it is works that illustrates our faith that we profess with our mouths.

James 2:20-22
Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works.

Our works of faith completes and illustrates/ validates ones' faith. Faith is completed in good works.
One cannot have the other, as we are reminded in:

James 2:14-18
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well," but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Indeed someone might say, "You have faith and I have works." Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.

Brother, this resounds back to the message given to us by St. Vincent De Paul in his phrasing, ""Strive to live content in the midst of those things that cause your discontent. Free your mind from all that troubles you, God will take care of things. You will be unable to make haste in this [choice] without, so to speak, grieving the heart of God, because he sees that you do not honor him sufficiently with holy trust. Trust in him, I beg you, and you will have the fulfillment of what your heart desires"

We must strive to live in holy trust with God, and to live peacefully within our own soul and in complete trust in GOD. Even if there is discord amongst brethren that look down on us, say ill things about us behind our backs, because of our trust in God or in completing a task and action that we know that God is in support and in defense of.
Remember, brother, that nothing in this life is ever popular, especially the RIGHT things. This world that we live in is ruled by the devil, and his demons. His lies and his perverse satisfaction in causing discord amongst brothers; and in making what is wrong popular and what is RIGHT subject to criticism.

We are reminded to live in faith in GOD and in upholding our HOLY TRUST in God by showing our Good works.
For we are reminded in Matthew that we are a light upon the house, and that we should shine forth our good works so that others will see our good works and GLORIFY OUR ETERNAL FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN.

Matthew 5;16
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Trust In God. In Everything you do Glorify Him. For it is said that, "WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH HIM WHO STRENGTHENS US." In GOD, all things are possible. :) ALL THINGS.

GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER!
Yours In Jesus Christ,
Lorenzo

Let us pray for them lang. Let us offer our petitions before the Judgment Seat of Christ.
Who Hears all Prayers.

General Topic / Your Views On Immortalization
October 12, 2009, 11:03:43 AM
Respectable members, friends, colleagues, fellow intellectuals,

I wanted to share a viewpoint that was brought to my attention by some friends recently in a lively conversation this weekend.
The concept I am talking about is the human tendency to immortalize one's name and memory. We know that throughout human history from the beginning of human civilization as early as Ancient Mesopotamia, to the Hellenistic Greece, Pharonic Egypt, The Roman Empire, the Chinese Dynasties, the Indus Valley Civilizations (Chandra Gupta Maurya, Mogul, Ashokic), to the Khmer Civilizations in South East Asia, to the Azteca and Ahuatl civilizations of Meso-America to the European Absolute Kings etc.

Each one of these civilizations had rulers: Emperors, Kings, Queens, Princes, Barons, who fashioned images of themselves as to beautify their memory so as to immortalize their legacy for future generations to remember. In the attempt to preserve their lasting contributions to their respected societies.

I personally find it quite interesting, that all these civilizations, share that distinct humanitic concept. The need to preserve their name and memory even after their mortal lives bows to the touch of death. It is, inevetibly genuine. Existentialism.

Human beings, throughout the continuum of God's Green Earth and Creation, are the only ones that are so obsessed in their namesake's preservation. The need to last the ages and to never be forgotten. The need to immortalize their name.

What are your views on this?
Do share.

Best,
Lorenzo

Where Can I go, Lord?
Where you are not?

If I were to make my bed in the deserts,
still you would find me,
For the Sun beams your rays to the Earth

If I were to plunge into the depths of the Sea,
still you would see me,
for I would see Thy Works In The Deep!

You formed me in the womb of my mother,
My lips you purchased so that it may speak,
My heart that pumps my life's blood,
you have willed it to function upon the 3rd week of gestation.

You are everywhere.

Manay, you like jazz and swing? :)

Call me old-style, but I am a lover of swing music. In my free time, back in undergrad, I would dress up and go to the jazz clubs in downtown Pittsburgh, with a glass of cognac in one hand and a lit cigar on the other. I would just sit back, and take everything in. My own little world away from the world.

I swing dance as well. lol. Beginner pa, but can hold my own feet. ;)

---

Back to the topic:

I have a varied taste in music. One could say--eclectic.
I like jazz, smooth jazz, classical, pop, smooth r&b, and alternative rock.
My friends always say, "You're 24 but you have a mind of an older man."
Probably.

The beauty of Catholic Genuflexion.

When we genuflect in Church,
it is a spiritual obeiscance and prostration before God.

That even in this modern world, filled with thoughts of rationality, logic etc,
We still remember our place in life.
And that DUST will bow to its CREATOR.

Bible Study / Re: Litany to God The Father

Savior, My Rock In Whom I Stand,

Lord thank you so much for the difficulties you have given in life,
for we are reminded of the death and cross to which Christ The Savior
had to endure for our own sake.

Lord thank you for the pains of life
that we are reminded of the labor pains of our birth mothers
that we are reminded of the deaths of your saints who die in your peace

Lord thank you for the miseries afflicted to us by the wicked,
for it is in suffering that we grow in faith,
for it is in trials and ordeals that we abound in your love
For it is when we feel the most pain and suffering that you are so close to us.

Lord forgive us our sins,
to which we knowingly or unknowingly commit to our brothers and sisters.
Forgive us our sins as you forgive those who tresspass against us.

Lord instill within us the power and will to forgive,
despite our own personal pride and stubborness,
That we may remember Christ's Saying, "I say to you love your enemies."

Lord instill within us the humility to seek your grace
and Infinite Mercy.
For it is in bowing before you
that even the greatest among us remembers our places in life.

For, LORD, all the GLORY, HONOR, AND PRAISE
belong to YOU and YOU ALONE.
YOU who are creator, redeemer, and finisher of ALL THINGS.

This we ask through Jesus Christ Our Eternal Risen Lord.
From Whom ALL Good Things Come.

AMEN.

Powerful Prayer.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is Hatred, let me sow Love.
Where there is Injury, Pardon.
Where there is Doubt, Faith.
Where there is Despair, Hope.
Where there is Darkness, Light, and
Where there is Sadness, Joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Sometimes I can read people through their faces, their eyes.
But the one I am concerned about is like me.
It is hard to read me--for her, it is the same.

We start fresh, cute convos, which develop into passionate arguments,
and then she gets angry ug mo tan-aw ko sa other direction.
Selosa kaayo bajiha. She drives me insane. I want to eat her mouth with kisses,

Salutations and Good Evening Dr. X__

I would like to infer my deepest regret that we had a disagreement the other day concerning the care of the patient in room 5b.
It was my personal opposition to how you were treating that patient in front of the entire medical student cohort at the time that---annoyed me.

You, sir, are a medical physician. Act like one.
You have no right to be demeaning to that patient and act so arrogantly rude in front of us, the medical students.
You, who wear the white coat of the honored physician,
are an embarrassment to our honored profession.

Your sexual inuendos and jokes, and very sexist rants were, in my opinion, below class.
Are you a physician or are you dirt and pebbles?
Words and actions says alot about a man.
I do pray you change your actions before it becomes an impedent to you in the future.

I respect you as physician, but I am disgusted with your choice of words and your nihilistic tendencies.
In the language of my fore-fatheres, you make me "ma Luoran/ Lu-od".

My Love,

Why is it that you have not written to me?
I have poured out my letters to you like no other.
I gave you 2 letters today. Both combined 8 pages long.

You called me. Crying because of its deep content.

Yet you dissapoint me.

For you have not written back to me. Why is that?
What is preoccupying you so that it is impeding you from writing to your love?
Am I not a heart that is open to you?
Have I not cried from the depths of my soul to you?

Yet you have not written to me in over 4 days!
Speak to my soul.
I have tasted you.
And I cannot stop yearning for more.

I demand you write to me soon.
Please.

Today was a pseudo-productive day. Despite it being a Saturday, I thought i would get more work done, rather, it was spent on errands and on helping other students. There is a flu going around campus and 5 of my good friends, namely: Job, Albert, Shalabh, Stacy and Thiru are all sick with the flu. Symptoms include productive cough, fever, malaise, nausea and overall lethargy and fatigability. Just listening to their cough there is crackles. I have given them tylenol extra strength to remedy the symptomatic pain. Liquids were given as well. I hope they get better tomorrow.

In my own concern, I took 1000 mg of Ascorbic Acid (Vit C). I fear that the campus will be affected by monday and I hope my immune system stays bolstered to fight off this circulating bug.

The irony of the situation. Medical Students getting Sick. :)

Then again, we are, afterall, but mere humans. Even Doctors get sick.

THE provincial government of Bohol has allocated P200,000 for the purchase of National Food Authority (NFA) rice for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila and Luzon delivered Thursday to the Malacañang Disaster Relief Operations Center for repacking and distribution.

Gov. Erico Aumentado disclosed that the provincial government through National Police Commission Region 7 Director Bernardo Calibo, Bohol Association in Metro Manila, Inc. (BAMMI) chair, withdrew the rice from the NFA warehouse in Metro Manila and delivered it to the Malacañang Disaster Relief Operations Center . The provincial government has paid for the rice through the NFA Tagbilaran Branch.

The governor also mobilized all municipal mayors, the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD) and the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Bohol chapter whose board he chairs, to solicit relief goods for the typhoon victims.

He urged the Boholanos to respond to the humanitarian call as a thanksgiving to the Lord who has always spared the province from natural and man-made disasters during his term from 2001 until at present.

Meanwhile, the Bohol Chronicle and radio station DYRD, in tandem with Msgr. Leonardo Medroso, bishop of Tagbilaran, is also launching a similar humanitarian drive for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila and Luzon.
