Antilamentation
by Dorianne Laux

Regret nothing. Not the cruel novels you read
to the end just to find out who killed the cook.
Not the insipid movies that made you cry in the dark,
in spite of your intelligence, your sophistication.
Not the lover you left quivering in a hotel parking lot,
the one you beat to the punchline, the door, or the one
who left you in your red dress and shoes, the ones
that crimped your toes, don’t regret those.
Not the nights you called god names and cursed
your mother, sunk like a dog in the livingroom couch,b
chewing your nails and crushed by loneliness.
You were meant to inhale those smoky nights
over a bottle of flat beer, to sweep stuck onion rings
across the dirty restaurant floor, to wear the frayed
coat with its loose buttons, its pockets full of struck matches.
You’ve walked those streets a thousand times and still
you end up here. Regret none of it, not one
of the wasted days you wanted to know nothing,
when the lights from the carnival rides
were the only stars you believed in, loving them
for their uselessness, not wanting to be saved.
You’ve traveled this far on the back of every mistake,
ridden in dark-eyed and morose but calm as a house
after the TV set has been pitched out the upstairs
window. Harmless as a broken ax. Emptied
of expectation. Relax. Don’t bother remembering any of it.
Let’s stop here, under the lit sign
on the corner, and watch all the people walk by.

It was unclear how many times the teen was shot and where, Vance told ABC News. He said that the medical exam will be doing autopsy today, which be able to help out with the investigation.

"We're working out the timeline with the evidence and interviewing the witnesses and will figure out the timeline," Vance said. "We're going to examine everything and try to understand exactly how and why this occurred."

Police said that they have now determined whether the gun was registered to Jeffrey Giuliano but said they will not yet be releasing the details. Detectives were still processing the scene early Friday for physical and forensic evidence.

No charges have been filed against Giuliano. Calls made to his home by ABC News were not immediately returned.

Superintendent of New Fairfield schools Alicia Roy sent an email out to parents Thursday afternoon regarding the shooting.

"Our district has experienced a tragedy that has affected us deeply," she wrote, according to the News-Times. Roy said that the shooting was not discussed with students because "the facts were not clear."

Classmates of Tyler's took to Twitter to express their shock and grief at losing someone they've known for most of their lives.

"Never going to forget that laugh he had," Nick Cesarski wrote. "Weird to think a kid I knew since kindergarten is gone. He always was a good kid. R.I.P Tyler."

Connecticut Teacher Didn't Know He Shot Masked Son Until Police Identified Body
By KEVIN DOLAK | ABC News â€" 5 hours ago

ABC News - Police: Masked Boy Killed by Dad Had Knife (ABC News)

A teacher attempting to assist his sister in their quiet Connecticut suburb when she believed she was being robbed shot a masked stranger during a late-night confrontation. But Jeffrey Giuliano, 44, didn't realize that he had gunned down and killed his teenage son until the boy was identified by authorities.

Police responding to a possible burglary attempt pulled up to a house in New Fairfield at 1 a.m. Thursday to find the local 5th grade teacher, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, sitting on the lawn outside his sister's home (the two lived next door). Dead in the driveway was his 15-year-old son, Tyler.

Lieutenant J. Paul Vance said that Tyler was found with obvious gunshot wounds and was holding a weapon.

"We received a call reporting possible burglary and shots fired," Vance told ABC News. "He was shot multiple times, but we still don't know the number of times or the location."

Emergency Medical Service responders said that Tyler, who the Fairfield News Times reported was Giuliano's adopted son, was dead when they arrived on the scene.

Jeffrey Giuliano armed himself with a handgun and headed next door when he received a call from his sister, Alexis Scocozza, who suspected her home was being broken into.
Once he left his house, Giuliano immediately saw a masked person dressed all in black clothing and wearing a ski-mask and holding a "shiny object," according to the police report.

Giuliano, who teaches at the Meeting House Hill School in New Fairfield, told police that the masked stranger came at him with the object still in his hand and in a threatening manner. Giuliano said he believed that the stranger was armed, and during the confrontation that quickly followed discharged his handgun.

Police have not stated whether the object Tyler was holding at the time of the shooting was a weapon.

Business and Economy / Re: how to make ONE BILLION COLLARS
September 28, 2012, 08:54:00 PM
First things first...

In clothing, a collar is the part of a shirt, dress, coat or blouse that fastens around or frames the neck. Among clothing construction professionals, a collar is differentiated from other necklines such as revers and lapels, by being made from a separate piece of fabric, rather than a folded or cut part of the same piece of fabric used for the main body of the garment.

A collar may be permanently attached to the main body of the garment (e.g. by stitching) or detachable. --Wiki

Eudaimonia implies a positive and divine state of being that man is able to strive toward and possibly reach. A literal view of eudaimonia means achieving a state of being similar to benevolent deity, or being protected and looked after by a benevolent deity. As this would be considered the most positive state to be in, the word is often translated as 'happiness' although incorporating the divine nature of the word extends the meaning to also include the concepts of being fortunate, or blessed. Despite this etymology, however, discussions of eudaimonia in ancient Greek ethics are often conducted independently of any super-natural significance.

In his Nicomachean Ethics, (1095a15â€"22) Aristotle says that eudaimonia means ’doing and living well’. It is significant that synonyms for eudaimonia are living well and doing well. On the standard English translation, this would be to say that ‘happiness is doing well and living well’. The word ‘happiness’ does not entirely capture the meaning of the Greek word. One important difference is that happiness often connotes being or tending to be in a certain pleasant state of consciousness. For example, when we say of someone that “he is a very happy man,” we usually mean that he seems subjectively contented with the way things are going in his life. We mean to imply that he feels good about the way things are going for him. In contrast, eudaimonia is a more encompassing notion than feeling happy since events that do not contribute to one’s experience of feeling happy may affect one’s eudaimonia.

Eudaimonia depends on all the things that would make us happy if we knew of their existence, but quite independently of whether we do know about them. Ascribing eudaimonia to a person, then, may include ascribing such things as being virtuous, being loved and having good friends. But these are all objective judgments about someone’s life: they concern a person’s really being virtuous, really being loved, and really having fine friends. This implies that a person who has evil sons and daughters will not be judged to be eudaimonic even if he or she does not know that they are evil and feels pleased and contented with the way they have turned out (happy). Conversely, being loved by your children would not count towards your happiness if you did not know that they loved you (and perhaps thought that they did not), but it would count towards your eudaimonia. So eudaimonia corresponds to the idea of having an objectively good or desirable life, to some extent independently of whether one knows that certain things exist or not. It includes conscious experiences of well being, success, and failure, but also a whole lot more. --Wiki
#35056
Eudaimonia or eudaemonia, sometimes anglicized as eudemonia, is a Greek word commonly translated as happiness or welfare; however, "human flourishing" has been proposed as a more accurate translation. Etymologically, it consists of the words "eu" ("good") and "daimōn" ("spirit"). It is a central concept in Aristotelian ethics and political philosophy, along with the terms "aretÄ"", most often translated as "virtue" or "excellence", and "phronesis", often translated as "practical or ethical wisdom". In Aristotle's works, eudaimonia was (based on older Greek tradition) used as the term for the highest human good, and so it is the aim of practical philosophy, including ethics and political philosophy, to consider (and also experience) what it really is, and how it can be achieved.

Discussion of the links between virtue of character (ethikÄ" aretÄ") and happiness (eudaimonia) is one of the central preoccupations of ancient ethics, and a subject of much disagreement. As a result there are many varieties of eudaimonism. Two of the most influential forms are those of Aristotle and the Stoics. Aristotle takes virtue and its exercise to be the most important constituent in eudaimonia but does acknowledge the importance of external goods such as health, wealth, and beauty. By contrast, the Stoics make virtue necessary and sufficient for eudaimonia and thus deny the necessity of external goods.  --Wiki

Romney’s Gaffes Worsen in Israel

by Andy Borowitz
July 28, 2012

TEL AVIV (The Borowitz Report)â€"The Mitt Romney Gaffe Express pulled into a new station today, leaving its conductor’s hopes of proving himself to be a nimble statesman in tatters.

Mr. Romney’s troubles began in a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to whom he presented gifts of a HoneyBaked ham and a wheel of cheddar cheese.

After Mr. Netanyahu ordered both gifts removed from his residence and destroyed, Mr. Romney went on to address the Knesset, where he congratulated the Jewish people on building the pyramids.

“Ann and I saw them during a cruise we took to the Middle East, and they were magnificent,” he told the stunned legislators. “As accomplishments go, building the pyramids isn’t up there with saving the Olympics, but you should still feel very, very proud. Nice job.”

Sensing that his remarks were not going over as well as intended, Mr. Romney improvised: “No, really. Incredible building job you did. If any of you would like to work on our house in La Jolla, just say the word. Only thing is, you’ll have to work Saturdays.”

Mr. Romney’s day concluded with an awkward moment at the West Bank, where he attempted to deposit ten million dollars.

“Not contented of physically abusing me, he forcibly removed my long pants and panty in front of many passengers,” dugang saysay ni Jane.

The Prince Philip Movement is a cargo cult of the Yaohnanen tribe on the southern island of Tanna in Vanuatu. The Yaohnanen believe that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the consort to Queen Elizabeth II, is a divine being, the pale-skinned son of a mountain spirit and brother of John Frum. According to ancient tales the son travelled over the seas to a distant land, married a powerful lady and would in time return. The villagers had observed the respect accorded to Queen Elizabeth II by colonial officials and came to the conclusion that her husband, Prince Philip, must be the son from their legends. When the cult formed is unclear, but it is likely that it was sometime in the 1950s or 1960s. Their beliefs were strengthened by the royal couple’s official visit to Vanuatu in 1974 when a few villagers had the opportunity to observe the prince from afar. Prince Philip was made aware of the religion and has exchanged gifts with its leaders and even visited them. -- http://listverse.com/

You go to Purgatory if...

You go to Purgatory if you die carrying the guilt of venial sin.  Venial sin is serious sin that doesn’t deserve the eternal torment of Hell.  An example would be saying a prayer carelessly.   Mortal sin is worse sin.  It is serious sin that does deserve Hell.  An example of it would be murder or adultery or spitting out the communion wafer.

You go to Purgatory if you die without any sin but if you owe God a debt of temporary (temporal) punishment for your sins.

You cannot help yourself in Purgatory.  You have to suffer enough before God will let you out.  The suffering purifies.

The living can pray for you and commit sacrifices for you and have masses offered for you.  This lessens the suffering you owe God.

The living can get a plenary indulgence for you that gets you out of Purgatory altogether.

If you are in Purgatory, you cannot and do not sin any more.  You are saved and destined for Heaven but only after Purgatory is done.  The Church says that being saved means you cannot lose salvation but this only applies to people who have died.

Nobody is meant for going to Purgatory.  We are to blame if we go there.

Cybercrime Act unconstitutional

Guingona, meanwhile, pointed out that the new Cybercrime Act has unconstitutional provisions.

He said the law denies equal protection for people charged with libel. He said a person found guilty of libel under the Revised Penal Code can face jail of up to 4 years while online libel is punishable by up to 12 years imprisonment.

Guingona also said the provisions of double jeopardy do not apply under the new cybercrime law. He said a person can be charged with libel and violation of the new law at the same time.

Thirdly, he said the new law gives the Secretary of Justice vast powers to order any website blocked even without a court review. -- With a report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News

faith in a divine being and the many ways of joining him at the end of our days has many nuances.  more often than not, it is more experiential and personal, as salvation should be, rather than a literal one.  the bible as the book of books is basis enough for our faith.  the churches or the different religious denominations that we adhere to are our guide.  nothing is ever literal.

the real faithful i presume will never claim that one's personal belief is better than the other.  and that's beside the fact that all christian religious denominations can quote passages from the bible to support their specific beliefs, hands down, as can be seen in the posts of this thread.  it becomes a neverending story thus.

but we can continue to learn from each other, if we may, in spite of or because of our personal beliefs and our religious denominations.  wa lay mas mabaw ug mas lawom.

Hmm, samot kalibog ang kutaw ni Botoy. Sori nga di ko kaapas sa pinsar ninyong pandits. Pero ang buot nimong ipaibot, posible diay nga legitimate ang Pastafarianism?
