“Makinig man.

“Makinig man.

gikan sa Alabang New Life Christian Center sa Muntinlupa.

Lest we forget, the point is as follows:

Nevermind the result of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 4; both sides will walk away happy. After all, their contracts ensure they'll be doing so with millions.

And in Pacquiao's case, it could be up to $30 million.

The fight, won by Marquez on a sixth-round KO, took place at MGM Grand Garden in Nevada and was expected to draw a heavy pay-per-view audience.

Pacquiao's contract with the Nevada Athletic Commission for this fight is $8.595 million. Marquez's contract is quite a bit smaller, but he's still taking away a guaranteed $3 million.

But that's just the beginning. The eventual purse for both fighters could be much, much larger.

This event was broadcast on HBO pay-per-view and was projected to garner over one million buys. The last Pacquiao-Marquez fight earned 1.3 million buys.

Pacquiao is perhaps the biggest draw in the sport, and the views reflect that.

A large chunk of Pacquiao's sum will come from his upside of the pay-per-view sales. And if it does well, Pacquiao will earn multiple millions from HBO.

Add that to his potential earning from the international broadcast of the fight and Pacquiao is easily projected to clear the $25-million barrier. Marquez is also expected to receive a significant sum from pay-per-view sales.

Top Rank boxing, the company that promoted this fight, expects it to do even better than the last edition of this bout. According to Top Rank's president Todd duBoef, Pacquiao's popularity hasn't lessened since his loss to Timothy Bradley; if anything it’s increased.

(WC)(BANAT NEWS)

Labels and stereotypes

Dela Rosa says that labels come about when people begin to judge others. “The ‘badness’ may be based on something real that a girl experienced with a boy or just from one trait,” she explains. It’s possible that he isn’t really all bad. Esguerra points out that he may even be a good son or an excellent employeeâ€"but with a fear of commitment.

What does liking a bad boy say about you?

Be careful about stereotyping people, but at the same time, pay attention to yourself and why you think you’re attracted to a bad boy. Maybe, just maybe, it has more to do with what’s lacking in you or what you’re searching for than what you actually see in him. This self-knowledge or discovery, dela Rosa says, above all, is what’s important when it comes to picking a boyâ€"bad or not.

4. The thrill.

Just like the challenge girls feel when they’re faced with an elusive boy, there is also the excitement of being with someone who is supposed to be off limits. There’s a risk taker and a thrill seeker in each one of us. If you want to feel reckless and free, being with a bad boy may just be the ticket. “I guess what makes a guy ‘bad’ to me is how irresponsible a girl feels when she's with him,” says Esguerra.

5. His acceptance.

Besides the excitement of being with a bad boy and going against what is expected of you, dela Rosa suggests another possibility. “Being with a bad boy makes you feel more accepted,” she says. “We all have a dark side, so a girl may feel that no matter what warts she may have, a bad boy will be more accepting of her.” Although it’s also very possible that he may reject her too. If this happens and she still stays with him, then it’s back to explanation number two.

3. His confidence.

In author Mina Esguerra’s book, That Kind of Guy, the main male character is a player. “Anton dates a lot. A new girl every week would be a slow week. Not someone you'd want to take home to mom and dad just yet,” she says.

“I think it's the confidence behind the ‘here are my flawsâ€"deal with them’ stand on life that's making them attractive,” she explains. “Confidence can really make up for a lot of things! What I tried to make a case for in the story was that there wasn't a Team Bad Boy/Good Guy, but rather a Sure/Unsure. I think the readers who sided with Anton did so because he was the guy who committed to things confidently.”

1. It’s media’s fault.

According to psychologist Kathleena dela Rosa, how media presents them plays a big role in the bad boy mystique. “There are a lot of things that go into it,” she adds. “Their looks (a bit scruffier or sometimes very dapper, think Chuck Bass), their manner of speaking, the way they act, and sometimes their vices.” They make the boy seem so attractive, especially if the show’s most gorgeous girls fall for him at the drop of a hat.

2. His emotional unavailability.

“Being emotionally unavailable or being a player especially adds to the bad boy charm,” says dela Rosa. It’s the challenge that girls crave, wanting what they can’t have.

You’ve heard the stories of girls who go from one bad boy to the next, never learning, never willing to “settle” for a good guy because he isn’t exciting enough, sexy enough, or man enough. And even if she gets hurt, it doesn’t matter, she’ll take the bad boy anytime. What is the draw of the bad boy? And why can’t some girls get enough of him?

Gramercy Penthouse sits atop a five floor apartment building in midtown Manhattan, New York. The loft was designed by studio Narofsky Architecture in collaboration with interior design firm ways2design. The client is a self-proclaimed part bachelor, musician, pilot and investment banker, whose requirements for the project was to infuse black, white and ugly with no maintenance into the design. The floor of the 4,000 square foot penthouse is a floating level which is isolated from the rest of the structure, as are the walls. The client did not wish to entertain overnight guests, so only one bedroom was implemented into the design. A guest bath was added, which was done in a pure white, adding a stark contrast to the mostly black loft. Sound proofing was added to the design as well as a stage and professional lighting for the part-time musician. The project also included a bar and lounge area and a unique living space on the rooftop, which is comprised of a hot tub, sauna, barbecue and a full garden with illuminated LED’s. -- http://www.onekindesign.com/

HUNGRY survivors of a deadly Philippine typhoon have raided shops and warehouses after aid deliveries were delayed.

Officials monitored the desperate scenes in the aftermath of typhoon Bopha's onslaught in the isolated southern town of Cateel, provincial official Cedric Daep said on Saturday.

"The food aid took so long to arrive that the locals broke into whatever building was left standing in search of something to eat," said Mr Daep, who was sent to the south by the government to help rescue and relief operations.

The typhoon killed more than 500 people and left hundreds missing across the south. About 393,000 people are said to be living in evacuation centres or receiving other forms of government assistance.

Warehouses and grocery stores were broken into in Cateel, a coastal town near where the eye of the typhoon made landfall on Tuesday.

Officials said damage to roads and bridges by floods and landslides trapped 150,000 people for three days in Cateel and nearby towns. They said almost all buildings were flattened or unroofed.

A Philippine Navy ship with 31 tonnes of emergency relief and 132 volunteer aid workers reached Baganga on Thursday, navy spokesman Omar Tonsay said.

There are claims that climate change, deforestation, poor planning and other factors worsened the catastrophe. Government officials said storm patterns related to climate change had put communities unaccustomed to strong typhoons in Bopha's path. But they also said the destruction had been exacerbated by deforestation from illegal logging and small-scale mining, as well as poor planning and confusion created by unclear maps of vulnerable areas.

Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said this week that about 80 per cent of the illegal logging ''hot spots'' in the Philippines are in Compostela Valley, the province that sustained the worst flooding. The denuding of mountains was seen as a key factor in the landslides and flooding.

Last December, more than 1200 people in the Philippines were killed by typhoon Washi, a powerful out-of-season storm that took an unusual southern track and surprised local officials, exposing thousands to flash floods.

Government officials at the time vowed to crack down on risks - such as illegal settlements in flood-prone areas - to avoid a repeat of the disaster. AFP, NEW YORK TIMES

Everyday health hazard 5: Cancelling plans

Find yourself frequently cancelling plans and bailing out on social events to have a bit of time to yourself? Then it may be time to pay some attention to your social life. While a bit of ‘me time’ is essential to good mental and physical health, too much time on your own can actually be bad for you. Research suggests that having strong social bonds promotes brain health, reduces feelings of depression and stress and encourages you to look after your health. In fact, a study found that having few friends affects your longevity as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

Everyday health hazard 4: Using cash machines

Withdrawing money from ATM machines is a common habit for most of us. However, cleanliness tests in Britain have revealed that cash machines are just as dirty as public toilets, and many of us are failing to wash our hands after using them. Experts assessed swabs from the key pads on cash machines and also from nearby public toilets and found that they both contained the same types of bacteria known to cause sickness. To look after your health, use an antibacterial hand gel once you have made your withdrawal and after handling money.

Everyday health hazard 3: Housework

Need an excuse to put your feet up? Well, good news: research suggests that leaving the housework for another day could give your health a boost! Research results published in the Journal of Family Psychology revealed that doing housework when you get home from work prevents levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) from lowering and reduces recovery from stress. However, stress levels for both men and women were lowered by housework being completed â€" just so long as they weren’t the ones doing it. Look after your health by taking turns to do the housework with other members of your household if possible, and take time out to relax afterwards.

Everyday health hazard 2: Eating at your desk

If you’re having a busy day in work, it can be tempting to skip your lunch break and eat at your desk. However, missing out on breaks is not only bad for your stress levels, eating while distracted may also mean you are more likely to overeat. Furthermore, spending your lunch hour at your desk can lengthen the time you are physically inactive and also expose you to harmful bacteria. According to a study by the University of Arizona, your work station contains nearly 400 times more germs than the average toilet seat, making it a less than ideal place for dining.

Everyday health hazard 1: Lying

Whether you’re complimenting your best friend’s unflattering hairdo or “improvising” on the cost of your new designer shoes, we all tell the odd fib from time to time. However, according to research, those little white lies could be more harmful than you think. Lying can generate feelings of stress which are damaging to your health, and a study by researchers at the University of Notre Dame found that when people reduced the amount of lies they told they suffered from less headaches, sore throats and anxiety.

that would still be sisyphean.  mine is a face that's not as square as the pants of sponge bob.

Hmm, why be limited to square? How about round? As in, say, a female version of Kim Jung-On? ;D

power does carry its own paranoia.  these end-of-civilization-world fictions are churned out as primetime shows and spread to the world primarily from the u.s.!

Indeed. The take-off points (TV shows) say it all. :)

america nuked hiroshima and nagasaki.  not that a taste of one's own medicine is wished here, but japan, with memorials in hiroshima and nagasaki, and the japanese are there--- stronger, better and more resilient and polite than ever as a country and as a nation.

The nuking of Japan was a limited, primitive exercise.

Not at all. This is merely a just-in-case scenario.
