MANILA - A public cemetery, Garden of Life Park of Mandaluyong City, is offering "one-stop shop" funeral services at drop dead prices to accommodate lower-income families.
The soon-to-be-completed Garden of Life Park complex boasts of facilities like a chapel where memorial services can be held, a crematorium and columbarium where ashes of the dead are interred.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos said the public cemetery's concept is a way to "give dignified burials for the poor."
It is also to encourage residents to have their dead loved ones cremated instead, to avoid overcrowding at public cemeteries.
Bereaved family members need not buy costly funeral lots or coffins, as they can easily have their loved ones' remains cremated and placed in urns.
Aside from the fact that cremation is cheaper than regular burial services, urns also take up less space than coffins.
