Inspiration & Hope / When I Said
June 13, 2010, 02:47:04 PM
 :)

He Loves You!

~
When I said to the Lord "I am so short of where you want me to be."
He gently answered "That's okay. That's all the farther you and I can walk together."

When I said to the Lord "I don't know who I am."
He gently answered "That's okay. I know who you are."

When I said to the Lord "I am so tired of fighting."
He gently answered "That's okay. Satan is down for the count."

When I said to the Lord "My actions aren't reflecting my heart."
He gently answered "That's okay. Mine did."

When I said to the Lord "My mind is corrupted."
He gently answered "That's okay. Use mine for awhile."

When I said to the Lord "I don't know how to love."
He gently answered "That's okay. I will give you free lessons"

Inspiration & Hope / In Whose Hands
June 13, 2010, 02:44:12 PM
A basketball in my hands is worth about $19.
A basketball in Michael Jordan's hands is worth about $33 million.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A baseball in my hands is worth about $6.
A baseball in Mark Mcguire's hands is worth $19 million.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A tennis racket is useless in my hands.
A tennis racket in Pete Sampras' hands is a Wimbledon Championship.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal.
A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A sling shot in my hands is a kid's toy.
A sling shot in David's hand is a mighty weapon.

It depends whose hands it's in.

Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in God's hands will feed thousands.

It depends whose hands it's in.

Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse.
Nails in Jesus Christ's hands will produce salvation for the entire world.

It depends whose hands it's in.

As you see now it depends whose hands it's in.

So we can put our concerns, our worries, our fears, our hopes, our dreams, our families, and our relationships in God's hands because --

It depends whose hands they're in.

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe
AMEN.

Inspiration & Hope / There's A Hole In My Sidewalk
June 13, 2010, 02:41:35 PM
CHAPTER ONE
I walk down a street and there's a big hole. I don't see it and fall into it. It's dark and hopeless and it takes me a long time to find my way out. It's not my fault !

CHAPTER TWO
I walk down the same street. There's a big hole and I can see it, but I still fall in. It's dark and hopeless and it takes me a long time to get out. It's still not my fault.

CHAPTER THREE
I walk down a street. There's a big hole. I can see it, but I still fall in. It's become a habit. But I keep my eyes open and get out immediately. It is my fault.

CHAPTER FOUR
I walk down a street. There's a big hole. And I walk around it.

CHAPTER FIVE
I walk down a different street.

Bible Study / The Armor of God
June 13, 2010, 02:37:31 PM
"Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints"

Refrain
One bread, one body,
one Lord of all,
one cup of blessing which we bless.
And we, though many,
throughout the earth,
we are one body in this one Lord.

1. Gentile or Jew,
servant or free,
woman or man, no more.

2. Many the gifts,
many the works,
one in the Lord of all.

3. Grain for the fields,
scattered and grown,
gathered to one, for all.

Poems and Poets / The Beautiful Hands of A Priest
June 13, 2010, 02:15:28 PM
We need them in life's early morning,
We need them again at its close;
We feel their warm clasp of true friendship,
We seek it while tasting life's woes.
When we come to this world we are sinful,
The greatest as well as the least.
And the hands that make us pure as angels
Are the beautiful hands of a priest.
At the altar each day we behold them,
And the hands of a king on his throne
Are not equal to them in their greatness
Their dignity stands all alone.
For there in the stillness of morning
Ere the sun has emerged from the east,
There God rests between the pure fingers
Of the beautiful hands of a priest.
When we are tempted and wander
To pathways of shame and sin
'Tis the hand of a priest that absolve us.
Not once but again and again.
And when we are taking life's partner
Other hands may prepare us a feast
But the hands that will bless and unite us,
Are the beautiful hands of a priest.
God bless them and keep them all holy,
For the Host which their fingers caress,
What can a poor sinner do better
Than to ask Him who chose them to bless
When the death dews on our lids are falling,
May our courage and strength be increased
By seeing raised o'er us in blessing
The beautiful hands of a priest.

HONEY in the lion's mouth,
Emblem mystical, divine,
How the sweet and strong combine;
Cloven rock for Israel's drouth;
Treasure-house of golden grain
By our Joseph laid in store,
In his brethren's famine sore
Freely to dispense again;
Dew on Gideon's snowy fleece;
Well, from bitter turned to sweet;
Shew-bread laid in order meet,
Bread whose cost doth ne'er increase,
Though no rain in April fall;
Horeb's manna freely given
Showered in white dew from heaven,
Marvelous, angelical;
Weightiest bunch of Canaan's vine;
Cake to strengthen and sustain
Through long days of desert pain;
Salem's monarch's bread and wine;--
Thou the antidote shalt be
Of my sickness and my sin,
Consolation, medicine,
Life and Sacrament to me.

Bible Study / Re: Catholic Hymnal: Here I Am Lord
June 13, 2010, 02:11:20 PM
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have born my peoples pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I became, officially, and older brother to my 2nd younger brother. The birth of my beloved younger brother Andre Nicholas spirited a sense of fraternal pride i had in my baby brother. Seeing him in the hospital floor and seeing the multitude of black hair on his head, and intchikon looking eyes made me beam with pride. My darling baby brother. Andre Nicholas. Your eyes saw mine and my eyes saw yours.

Oh i remember you when you were but a babe. Now you are 10 years old turning 11. From cradle to the present, i have watched you grow and become a fine, young boy you have become.

I love you, doy. You and Don Rico have really made your Kuya happy. God has blessed me with fine brothers. Fine brothers.

Was the day that my mother and sister decided to come visit me for a week. Tho i was stressed due to work and studies, having my mother and sister stay in my apartment for a week was blessing. The company of my mother, and sister whilst i studied, and having the luxury of eating my mother's home-cooked meals was...amazing.

I also had my friends Job, Albert and Brandon join us for dinner. It will always be in my memory. That and receiving good news that my sister, Lorraine, also was accepted to medical school proper made the event all the more joyous. Will always remember that moment.

Plus, mommy's cooking and mommy's support is always a blessing.

once upon a time, on midnight dreary..err...i mean, on a college bar scene...

I took this one girl out with me to a particular bar called "Otter's Bar"; a regular townie bar in Meadville, PA.
So i started a little conversation with this lady (who i was classmates with in a Biology class--we took Ecology 305 together).
So she talked about our professor, the quirks of class etc etc. I couldn't help but gazing into her eyes--such beautiful green eyes; like bright jade.
For a good 30 minutes all i did was nodd my head and gazed into her eyes as she talked away.

I felt so bad because she asked me a question involving the subject she was talking about (oh something related to predation) and my response was, "Say again?"
lol, luckily for us, the scotch that we shared was more than enough to dim the academic topic at hand. I took her back to her dorm and was invited to stay the night. So i did. Anyways, it was snowing out that evening. Typical January. :)

Kumusta sa tanan dire sa TB?Sir Lorenz, bahin ining heart attack, unsa may mga maayong paagi ini nga maka survive kita?sa panahon nga moataki kini nga sakit unya wala kitay maka pangayu-an ug tabang unsay angay natong buhaton?

In case that a patient does not have aspirin or any medication whatsoever , It is important that the patient asks to be taken to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. A heart attack is not something that we can just wait to go away; a heart attack is indicative of some kind of occlusion in the arteries, and can signify some kind of thrombus formation or microthrombi. It important to treat the underlying condition of the heart attack; which in thise case is probably a damaged endothelial lining in the artery.

When the artery's endothelial lining is damaged, it attracts the platelets and then aggregation to form a clot. If the clot is uncontrolled, it can form an atheroscerlotic clot. And if this clot is uncontrolled, small parts will break off and form microthrombi in other parts of the artery and arterial system.

This can lead to D. I. C (disseminated intravascular coagulation), which if not treated can cause and lead to perfuse bleeding, thrombocytopenia and cardiomyopathy.

It is therefore very important to go to the hospital if you or any one is experiencing a heart attack.

If untreated or ignored, can be fatal.

#30846
Hello Lionhearth,

Thank you for your question. In case of heart attack (Myocardial Infarction), it is best that one takes immediate coronary medication. Your doctor will probably prescribe you what is called Heparin , this is used for immediate / acute conditions after heart attack. Afterwards, you will be weened off heparin for warfarin (which is used for longterm treatment) After you suffer a heart attack, you will be placed under aspirin regimen for chronicity (long term) treatment as well as blood thinners, and platelet blockers.

Some medication that i would ask your doctor to prescribe you if you are already a patient with CVD (cardiovascular disease) :

1. Asprin
2. Heparin (to be taken if woman is pregnant)
3. Warfarin (not to be taken if woman is pregnant)--this is for chronic treatment.

In the event that a person is having a Myocardial Infarction, the patient will know that they have it by the following symptoms:
1. Retrosternal chest pain
2. Pain that radiates to back, left arm, and jaw of face
3. Pain does not go away and subsists for 2+ hour duration

If the pain does not go away after taking nitroglycerin, nitroprusside or any other venodilators (taken for angina), then this is a case of myocardial infarction.

__

When you know that you are having a heart attack, you will want to call for 911 or immediately have yourself taken to the hospital. The physicians there will give you O2 therapy, at the same time they will give you an IV dose of thrombus-busters. They will give you Streptokinas, Urokinase or Altepase, which will literally break down the thrombin formation that is causing the atherosclerotic plaque forming in the arterial system, thus causing the infarction of the myocardium (heart apparatus).

It is important that the patient who is suffering the syptoms of infarction (cerebrovascular= stroke) or (myocardial = heart) be given these drugs in order to restore proper function of the heart and the brain. If the heart is deprived of proper blood , nercrosis will set in and the heart tissue will be replaced with fibrosis and thus lead to a decreased functioning of the heart. This will eventually cause Cardiomyopathy or cardiohypertrophy; this is the enlarged growth of the heart in order to compensate for the dead tissue in the surrounding heart apparatus. If this is uncorrected, will eventually lead to CHF (Congestive heart failure; chronic heart failure).

To answer your question; you might want to have with you asirin ; and carry it with you on daily basis so as to maintain your blood levels and prevent further accumulation of atherosclerotic plaque from forming into a total plug, which if it does, will cause a occlusion of the main arteries to the heart (coronary artery, right descending, interventricular, posterior coronary etc).

And remember to ask your doctor about heparin, warfarin, leuvovorin, streptokinase, urokinase, altepase, and asprin.

~~

For patients with heart problems or history of heart problems: remember this motto:

AN ASPIRIN A DAY KEEPS THE HEART ATTACK/ STROKE AWAY.

Yours,
Lorenzo

Quote from: cujo on June 11, 2010, 11:01:20 PM
Pinel's tactics is very commendable. But what about like the one you see in movies where they medicated the patience while tied up in a straightjacket? Can you imagine you want to say something that you are not insane and you are highly medicated,or maybe I am just mumbling here with no sense.how do I know about medical field?
By the way doc is it proper to use the word " bughouse"?

Hi Cujo,

Indeed, it is undoubtedly very cruel how mentally deranged patients were treated (maltreated) by the physicians of the past, especially in pre-Revolutionary France where it was common to think that the reasons for madness was impious thought, a sinful life, and what not. Pinel, who was influenced by the French Revolution, believed that even the mentally insane had personal unalienable rights as well, as human beings. His reforms increased the longevity of mental patients; and most of all, because of his popularity, his students would follow his Moral Therapy and spread it all over France and beyond. Reaching even England and the American nation.

As to your question of being medicated for insanity (when in fact, was not insane), I assume that one would have some kind of internal turmoil as how a person unfairly and wrongly charged for murder/or crime and sentenced to prison for something one did not do. It would either: 1) stretch a person's patience or 2) reduce a man or woman to insanity.

If a patient was sentenced to a mental prison for the wrong reasons and was medicated for something he / she did not have, then the drug effects would have symptomatic effects on the patient. Let us say that the person was given haloperidol, rivastigmine and other anti-psychotic medication / anxiolytics---then the effects of this would be tarditive dyskinesia (when the tongue sticks out involuntarily), movement disorders etc (because these drugs would decrease dopamine levels).

Yes, i think we can use the term 'bughouses' appropriately. hehe.

Well said, and great point of view/questions, Cujo!

This man has serious mental disorder(s); if not, is just down right evil. Philippines could learn from Singapore or China. Re-institute the death penalty.

Galabi man sa pinas mga bugalbugalon pipila ra ang mamakamaong
mobatig kalooy sa mga depektoso swerte tong mga walay apan
sa panglawas bisan itom ug kasingkasing baliwala ra na para nila. ::)

Right. In the philippines, very quick ang tawo mo point out the deformities of people, and E-joke-joke. An example was when i was growing up as a child in Tagbilaran, we would come back from Bohol Wisdom School and one of my classmates had a loose tooth so one day she lost her tooth (natural man ni; when one's primary tooth replaces the baby tooth) and we had a neighbor who joked with our classmate and called her "Pangag! Pangag!". Na suko man jud ko to that person. Ning baus galing ko nija "Sabah dinha, ikaw man pangag sa ulo!" Ning hilom baya tong tawhana. For a man who was in his 30+, for him to say such and tease kids (we were preschoolers then) was unbecoming.

Here in the United States and im sure in many western countries, dili man i point out ang flaws sa mga tawo; as such can warrant a man to be liable under court for harassment charges.

If physical deformity was such a barrier to success; then I dare to remind that there are men such as renowned physicist Stephen Hawkings.

akong gi post kini kay aron mailhan ninyo nga mga nindot nga butang walay hinongdan dili madala sa sementeryo.
Kon ako adunay bisita walay pili, akong abi-abihan taman sa akong mahimo.

ps
ang cup and saucer is a set which cost 50 Euro.

Manay, I've been to a few antique shops here in the 'states, namely around Bloomfield area (north jersey) where there is a high demand for such antiques--namely old Victorian-style tea sets and cups. The last time i went to a collector's field day,  they had a sale on tea sets--cup and saucer was priced at $100+.

What you're showing--illustrates the high quality of Prussian-style tea sets. One of the best in Europe; rivaling those seen in France and Victorian England.

The design is meticulous...

One of the happiest day of my life was October 2003. We drove to Newark International Airport to meet my mother after her vacation to the Philippines; but she also brought with her my grandfather. I had to prepare myself for this moment, considering the fact that the last time I saw him was 1998 when I returned for the funeral of my Lola. When I saw him, however, i could not prevent my face from emitting smiles and let alone hold back the tears. He looked at me with his beautiful eyes and with his quintessential smile.

By God's Grace, Lo', I will see you soon this coming July. I have missed you.

Edna St. Vincent Millay

Let you not say of me when I am old,
In pretty worship of my withered hands
Forgetting who I am, and how the sands
Of such a life as mine run red and gold
Even to the ultimate sifting dust, "Behold,
Here walketh passionless age!"â€"for there expands
A curious superstition in these lands,
And by its leave some weightless tales are told.

In me no lenten wicks watch out the night;
I am the booth where Folly holds her fair;
Impious no less in ruin than in strength,
When I lie crumbled to the earth at length,
Let you not say, "Upon this reverend site
The righteous groaned and beat their breasts in prayer.

Poems and Poets / City Trees
June 10, 2010, 01:20:40 PM
by: Edna St. Vincent Millay

The trees along this city street,
Save for the traffic and the trains,
Would make a sound as thin and sweet
As trees in country lanes.

And people standing in their shade
Out of a shower, undoubtedly
Would hear such music as is made
Upon a country tree.

Oh, little leaves that are so dumb
Against the shrieking city air,
I watch you when the wind has come,â€"
I know what sound is there.
