Posted at a facebook account "Valencianhons Voice"..another crime was committed yesterday, June 29, during the merry-making celebrating the San Pedro. This time, it was brother versus brother, when an older brother was stubbed by the younger brother. Happened in barangay Anas.

First, husband and wife. Next, father and son. Third, brother againts brother.

Usahay ra ba kuno, managat pa ang usa aron duna sila masud-an.

Let us hope that things will calm down and settle in. Hoping all is well in Barangay Anas.

I agree with Wolf because it is indeed the teachers that molds and facilitates a student's intellectual growth and maturation in the classroom, and encourages that 'competitive edge'. Elementary teachers, middle school teachers, high school teachers, college professors, clinical directors etc..they are the ones that direct the student to whatever field he/she is interested in / has strengths in.

A special shout out for guidance counselors, too.

As for me, i plan on taking my little cousin with me to the mercado in Valencia and try things there. The best jud is the sinugbang golonggong with fresh Valencianon rice (kai lami kaajo!) hehe. I paris pood na nato ug toyo, vinegar ug sili. mmm.

June 30th, 2010.

I have made arrangements to meet up with my Tita to meet up with me at Cebu International. However, I want to ask her to take me to the Shrine of the Santo Nino before voyaging by boat to Bohol. I hope it will not take too long to visit, but I have a deep inward yearning to visit the Church to the Blessed Santo Nino de Cebu.

So I hear that Cebu has truly changed from friends who visited the province in 2005.
I am very pleased to hear that the region has developed considerably in the last 10 years. I do hope that the continued growth in Mandaue and surrounding cities is uninterrupted, of course, thanks to the works of the DILG Units in the region.

Dear Blog,

I've been getting ready and preparing all necessary materials for my month-long vacation to the Philippines. I still need to bet more books for donation to the local library and finish all necessary materials to be included in the balikbayan box (I hope it won't be overweight).
I still need to get clothes ready and get enough summer clothes for my stay in the Philippines. I still cannot believe that it has been 12 years since I last visited the Philippines.

I should be arriving in Manila International by July 12 (US TIME) and then in Cebu, then to Bohol by Super Ferry. I am indeed excited.

More to be updated..

I went to bed last night thinking of my grandfather--I remember the last thing I said to him before he went back to Bohol in 2005,

"Lolo, will you miss me?"
He responded with a crying face.

I could not help but cry in front of him. We both embraced.
He said to me, "I Love You, 'Doy..."

And I said (whilst still crying) "I love you 'Lolo"

I cannot wait to see him again. Mingaw na jud ko nimo, Lolo..

No. Suicide usually is related to major depressive disorders, a medical problem.

quite interesting indeed. Or as they put it , "The God Particle"  :D

They have research labs in major universities, most atomic spectroscopy laboratories have the basis of this technology.

An example:

They collide two atoms at the speed of light and create unfathomable amounts of energy, which produces millions of subprotons per atom smashed. I did read an article way back in regards to using this technology to fuel human ambitions to colonize new worlds; NASA has invested into this research.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The "12 Promises"

Listed below are the "12 Promises" of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary to encourage all Catholics
to know and understand the benefit of practicing the Devotion
and to encourage all to take up its immediate practice.

   1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.

   2. I will give peace in their families and will unite families that are divided.

   3. I will console them in all their troubles.

   4. I will be their refuge during  life and above all in death.

   5. I will bestow the blessings of Heaven on all their enterprises.

   6. Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.

   7.Tepid souls shall become fervent.

   8. Fervent souls shall rise quickly to great perfection.

   9.I will bless those places wherein the image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored and will imprint My love on the hearts of those who would wear this image on their person. I will also destroy in them all disordered movements.

  10. I will give to priests who are animated by a tender devotion to my Divine Heart the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.

  11. Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart, never to be effaced.

  12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence: they will not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

      (The Nine Fridays must be made in honor of His Sacred Heart, meaning, practicing the devotion and having a great love of His Sacred Heart. They must be on the first Friday of the month for nine consecutive months, and Communion must be received.)

An Apostolic Mission for the Renewal of the
Devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus

"And He showed me that it was His great desire of being loved by men and of withdrawing them from the path of ruin into which Satan hurls such crowds of them, that made Him form the design of manifesting His Heart to men, with all the treasures of love, of mercy, of grace, of sanctification and salvation which it contains, in order that those who desire to render Him and procure for Him all the honor and love possible, might themselves be abundantly enriched with those divine treasures of which this Heart is the source.

He should be honored under the figure of this Heart of flesh, and its image should be exposed...He promised me that wherever this image should be exposed with a view to showing it special honor, He would pour forth His blessings and graces. This devotion was the last effort of His love that He would grant to men in these latter ages, in order to withdraw them from the empire of Satan which He desired to destroy, and thus to introduce them into the sweet liberty of the rule of His love, which He wished to restore in the hearts of all those who should embrace this devotion."..... "The devotion is so pleasing to Him that He can refuse nothing to those who practice it."

September 1990,

My grandfather operated a trucking business "SALVO LINES" and during his drive in around the town, to nearby Garcia Hernandez and Jagna, I would tag along during weekends to be with my grandfather. I used to sit next to him.

Lolo would always have a towel around his neck to wipe his sweat, and with him was a bag where he collected all the fees for the ride. My cousin Joseph used to sit with me and during breaks--we would run to the nearby 'merkado' and buy for our Lolo a bottle of Coke, fresh suman, and a bag of pandesal for us to share. We were so small then--probably 4-5 years old.

Lolo would wait in the back of the truck and picked us boys up to his trick. All three of us would sit on the passenger seats and eat. Drink. Talk.

As Lolo Ciano ate, he would look to the passing cars and gaze outwards. Unbenownst to him was the fact that I was looking at him, looking at his thick and work-ridden hands, his black shoes, which he neatly kept in order, his polo shirt, and his jeans that he always wore. I noticed how he ate his pandesal, and wiped his sweat from his forehead. Lolo Ciano.

I miss those days. Those simple days.

I want to eat pandesal with him again. :)

Summer of 1990,

My cousin Joseph, Jing, my sister Angel and I were playing in the grounds of my Lolo and Lola's house in Sawang. For breaks we would go to the local market to buy "ice water" and enjoy freshly cooked pandesal. Sweet and Simple.

By the shinning stars by Woodcock Dam we hiked with friends
looking

On brief request we all sat down to search the heavens,
how they sparkled in the night.
looking

By night fire we kept warm by the glow
the presence of brotherhood consuming
looking

And that feeling of longing and fraternity long gone long taken
yet the memory of your laughter,
our many vivid discussions lingers on, tho you are no longer
looking

And so I look at the stars at night
and remember you.

There you are--up there.
Twinkling with the stars.

I miss you so much, bro..

Bran, yesterday I wrote an e-mail to Edelweiss, our friend here in TubagBohol, and I mentioned to her those times that my father would fetch me at the office because he was worried over my safety. As I was writing the email, I felt that I was crying inside and my tears began to fall.

I feel the same emotional impact upon reading your recent post, Bran.

Mike,

I was never able to reply to this post of yours, my apologies. The death of my best friend will--always have an effect on me. When I say that it has an effect on me--I mean it in that I never was able to say goodbye to him, nor was he strong enough to contain himself from leaving us. Many things left unsaid, many words remained to be told, many discussions left on hold. Many regards in the cold. Preparations for meetings in the week, are put on the side for the meek. So too do tears that drop from face to table, one must be brave to move...if one is able.

It is a painful struggle one has to deal with--and only by the passage of time does one allow one's broken heart to gather enough strength to do the impossible.

Moving On.

It has been 2 years since you wrote this, and there is not a day in my life that I do no think of my best friend. Whom I loved as a brother.

We can only think of the positives and remember the lifelong memories we made and smile and raise our glasses to those memories.

:)

Yours,
Bran

Yes folks, its not Matter but Antimatter :o. The concept fuel of the future, used by Star Trek Enterprise.

Scientists claim antimatter is the costliest material to make. In 2006, Gerald Smith estimated 250 million dollars could produce 10 milligrams of positrons (equivalent to $25 billion per gram); and in 1999 NASA gave a figure of $62.5 trillion per gram of antihydrogen. This is because production is difficult (only a few antiprotons are produced in reactions in particle accelerators), and because there is higher demand for the other uses of particle accelerators. According to CERN, it has cost a few hundred million Swiss Francs to produce about 1 billionth of a gram (the amount used so far for particle/antiparticle collisions).

Several NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts-funded studies are exploring whether it might be possible to use magnetic scoops to collect the antimatter that occurs naturally in the Van Allen belt of the Earth, and ultimately, the belts of gas giants like Jupiter, hopefully at a lower cost per gram.

Antimatter is also the most difficult to contain because when in contact with matter, both will annihilate, turning into energy in a form of gamma rays. Current use of antimatter is the PET Scanner (Positron Emission Tomography), used to detect brain tumors.

Gamma Rays are used in most medical scanning equipment nowadays. It has been beneficial in neoplasm management (brain, kidney, bone, breast, prostate, etc.)
#30159
I've read into this before and reading your post again, Mr. Ferniz, reminded me of the ample opportunities in alternative energy. Minute gamma radiation is permissible considering we are already bombarded everyday by devastating UV radiation.

Thanks for the information.

You are firmly convinced about our Lord, who is truly of the race of David according to the flesh, Son of God according to the will and power of God, truly born of a virgin,. . . he was truly nailed to a tree for us in his flesh under Pontius Pilate. . . he truly suffered, as he is also truly risen.

Don't draw back, and worse still, don't stop going up the Calvary of life. Jesus will extend His hand to steady you. The thought of the sustaining grace of God and the prize that Jesus has reserved for you will be a sweet comfort.

Nothing restrains anger, curbs pride, heals the wound of malice, bridles self-indulgence, quenches the passions, checks avarice and puts unclean thoughts to flight, as does the name of Jesus.

18     Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.
19    And a scribe came up and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
20    And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."
21    Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."
22    But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."

Matthew 8:18-22

Meaning: The LORD JESUS CHRIST does not ask partiality, but requires TOTAL faith and commitment unto Him. For He offers HIMSELF to you, what else is there?

Every virtue in your soul is a precious ornament which makes you dear to God and to man. But holy purity, the queen of virtues, the angelic virtue, is a jewel so precious that those who possess it become like the angels of God in Heaven, even though clothed in mortal flesh.

I am going to be in Valencia , Bohol by the 12th of July. Palu Palu, I will bring with me donations of electric fan unit(s) for the classroom(s).

The cry of the kids has touched our hearts. And the Love of God that lives in all of us has called us to donate what little that we have.

I will meet up with the principal of Valencia Central Elementary School there.

God Bless All Of Us.

Ask, and it will be given.

Knock and the door will be answered.

Seek, and you will find.

Funny how P50 bill looks so big when you take it to the church, but so small when you take it to the market

Funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball

Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church but how short they are when watching a movie

Funny how we can’t think of anything to say when we pray, but don’t have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend

Funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time

Funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the Bible but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel

Funny how people want to get a seat in any game or concert but scramble to get backseat at church services

Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks advance notice to fit a church event into our schedule, but can adjust our schedule for other events at the last moments

Funny how hard is for people to learn a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to understand and repeat gossip

Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the bible says

Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, or to think, or to say, or do anything

Funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

The Prayer of St. Francis Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

A proof of Philippine Excellence in Education are the 20,000 Filipino Doctors that are working abroad in the United States. They were selected because of the excellence the Philippines exudes in its academic leadership.

An example and product of this is my medical hero:

Dr. Dioscoro Villanueva, M.D, who is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Mentor.
He was named one of the best Surgeons in Southern New Jersey.

He is a product of the prestigious University of the East School of Medicine.

He has saved thousands of lives, trained hundreds of American doctors. :)

My sister was christened in this beautiful church by the very priest who wed them. I always remind her of the beauty of Valencia, and that despite our being away from our town--there we will always be. There in that church was where she was named a member of the Catholic Church upon her baptism. And this goes for all Valencianons who were baptized in this church, wed in this church, and given last rights in this church.

Beautiful kaayo.

To my Tito Ramon,

Tito Ramon is a great person and a man who has always been the voice of the Valencianon Association of the East Coast, he has always been the voice man, the singer, the dancer extraordinaire that starts the cha-chas in the parties. hahaha. He's a good man. Along with Mr. Namocatcat, and Mr. De Los Reyes and Family!

They are the examples of good and friendly Valencianon-spirit!

What I love about Valencianons?

1. Our dedication and love of our town!

--Wherever you go, if you go to a fiesta in Valencia or a fiesta to the Senor Santo Nino here in the 'states or abroad, you will always hear the Valencianons talk about the situation in the town. The problems at hand, and the possible goods much longed for.

In the many times I have attended the annual meetings of the Valencianon Association of the East Coast, I have always met and encountered the fraternal kindness of Valencianons (friends, family, or even strangers). Very quick to respond ang mga Valencianon and recognize each other by face, by relation and some sort. It is a feeling of belongingness , altruistic compassion that links all of us. That tho many of us are abroad and away from our dear town, we are somehow linked by that common bond. That love of Valencia, our dear and precious town.

So I write this down and think of the qualities that make the town great...and I cannot help but see the true beauty in the town is in the people. The masses. The soul of Valencia is in the Valencianon.

I cannot wait to touch the soil of my hometown. For there is no other, and no comparison. :)

By Francis M. Bilowan

The Philippines remains a favorite destination for foreign students as the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported a 20-percent increase in the number of foreigners who were issued study visas by the bureau for current school year 2010-2011.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan, BI student desk head Teodulo Estrada said that as of June this year, a total of 6,416 foreign students were issued student visas by his office for this year’s first semester, compared to the 5,343 who enrolled in the same period last year.

Estrada said the figures were still tentative and would surely go up further as there were still hundreds of foreign students processing their visa applications with his office.

“And these figures only pertain to foreign students who applied for visas at our main office,” said Estrada, as he disclosed that BI field offices outside of Metro Manila were also authorized to accept and process student visa applications.

He said that aside from the BI main office, there has been a steady increase in student visa applications filed with the bureau’s field offices in key cities such as those in Cebu, Baguio , Davao , Angeles, and Iloilo.

Estrada said that language schools in the country have the most number of foreign students, followed by the different state universities and colleges.

“Cebu and Baguio City have the most number of foreign students,” Estrada said.

In my medical reviews at Newark, NJ, I met many overseas-physicians from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan who knew that I was Filipino and spoke to me in their broken Tagalog. I was astonished. On further discussions and introduction, I found out that they were product of Philippine Medical Schools: University of the Philippines, University of the East and the prestigious Santo Tomas Medical School.

Three of them were neurosurgeons, 2 where interventional cardiologists and one was a psychiatrist. All of them were trained and specialized in the Philippines.

There is no question on the excellence of Philippine Educational Systems. I would even dare to claim that Philippine Medical Schools are one of THE best medical schools in the world. The way Philippine Medical Schools teach their students are--gold standard. They implement a strong basic-science background (rigorous competition), and a complementary problem-based solving technique when teaching clinical medicine--then send Medical Students to medical missions throughout the Philippines on 3-4 month blocks.

I met a friend, who was a recent graduate from University of Philippines School of Medicine in Manila, and told me about their 3 month Community Medicine Block. He was sent to one of the poor barangays in Antipolo and served and worked with the local community physician there to deliver children (hundreds delivered) and performed general urological surgery--he performed hundreds of circumcisions in a 3 month span--and with it a lengthy clinical experience.

Philippine Medical Schools teach not only the books--but the clinical experience is colorful. What students like myself read about in text books such as leprosy (lepromatous types), various types of E.coli infections that are unheard of here in the 'states, or various cases of cholera, yersinia pestis (bubonic plague) that are still viable in S.E Asia (non-existant and unheard of here in the US) can be seen and treated in the Philippines.

My friend, Christopher (that is his name), is a Fil-AM who went to college here in the United States, but went to medical school in the Philippines (UP) and finished his rotations there. We are both now very good friends.

Philippine-Trained Doctors are very well-rounded.

So many grew round me, through me,
from my self, as it were.
I became a channel, unleashing a force
called man.
Did not the others crowding in, distort
the man that I am?
Being each of them, always imperfect,
myself to myself too near,
he who survives in me, can he ever
look at himself without fear?

Over this, your white grave
the flowers of life in white--
so many years without you--
how many have passed out of sight?
Over this your white grave
covered for years, there is a stir
in the air, something uplifting
and, like death, beyond comprehension.
Over this your white grave
oh, mother, can such loving cease?
for all his filial adoration
a prayer:
Give her eternal peace--

What is imperishable in me
