na, hala, sige.  padayon sa imong obama-bashing.  kun magpili na man lang kag sources nga sibo sa imong tinuhoan without counterchecking, padayon.

katingalahan lang why mo-insist ka nga si obama ang nagdugang ug tax sa small businesses.  read again, please.  easier still, kindly refer to reply #23, this thread.

kanang mga cronies ni obama kintahay nga arms manufacturers, which you've mentioned, are you sure you are not talking about republicans?  kun wa ko masayop, ang republicans maoy identified ug big arms business man god.  example lang si dick cheney sa panahon ni george bush...

as for some parts of mexico nga di na modawat ug dollars, well, that's business.  nisaka ang value sa mexican peso, mao nga maalkansi na.  but it is not a matter of mexican government policy nga di na modawat ug dollars, okay?  pero way makabuot sa mga negosyanteng mexicans kun di modawat.  besides, don't tell me mo-prefer na silag yuan karon.

we are already politically correct when it comes to skin color and gender pero layo pa ta when it comes to religion.

Question and Answer / Re: Is Obama Muslim?
September 13, 2012, 11:14:25 AM
Obama was baptized at the Trinity United Church of Christ in 1988, and was an active member there for two decades.  Obama resigned from Trinity during the Presidential campaign after controversial statements made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright became public.  After a prolonged effort to find a church to attend regularly in Washington, Obama announced in June 2009 that his primary place of worship would be the Evergreen Chapel at Camp David. 'Obama Admits He Is A Muslim' video is a product of malicious editing

December 7th, 2009

According to FactCheck.org, a widely viewed video seems to show President Obama stating that he is a Muslim is the product of dishonest editing.

Although it is titled "Obama Admits He Is A Muslim," the president in fact has admitted no such thing. The video edits and twists his actual words, sometimes turning what were denials into false confessions. For example, it edits out the words "I’m a Christian" from one quote and "my Christian faith" from another. It shows him quoting from the Quran, but snips out his quotes from the Bible and the Talmud.

Although the video gives no citations and no dates, we have tracked down the full quotes from the various appearances and provides an interesting case study of malicious editing.

kay tinood man jud nga anti american na si obama. di man gud na sija kristyano. muslim na.

note: sans religion-bashing, being muslim does not necessarily mean being anti-american.  it's just that those who attacked the u.s. (9/11, u.s. diplomatic posts, etc.) happen to be muslim.  pity those millions of muslims who are peace-loving and have nothing to do with these attacks.

wa may kalainan ning condemnation sa pag-ingon nga hollywood is america, and because hollywood people f**k just about anyone, then americans f**k just about anyone.  wrong, very wrong, sir balong.  it is never advisable to generalize anything.

as it is in the whole world.  hasta sa ato.  it's not obama's fault.  the muslims are simply doubly active and doubly good at evangelization compared to christians nowadays.  even the vatican admits that.

Quotein fact, obama now has the power to comandeer all the resources of the states even in peace time.

tingali ang iyang ipasabot kay dili "flowing" ang money, kana bitaw nga maihap kada adlaw.  real estate probably belongs under "dead assets", like jewelry.  i don't know where i got this term; i just heard it long ago.  di daling mahalin during emergencies, in other words.  mao nga usahay ibaligya na lang ug bargain.

ang kalami lang sa real estate like yuta kay di mawagtang.  these are my experiences, so far: sa cebu, ang among gipalit more than 10 years ago nga 1,500/sqm karon 6k na.  sa ubujan sa tagbilaran, ang gipalit namo ug 500/sqm karon 3k na kuno.  the downside diri sa manila, ang condo unit namo cost around 1.3m sa una.  karon 700k na lang, hahaha!

jewelries are another story.  paspas pod ang saka, pero kawatable.  malipat lang ko gamay, wa na ko kahibawog asa.  also, bawo ba uroy kun kinsay mopalit kun emergency.  the fastest would be at the pawnshop ni sir balong.  problema lang, one gets only 30% of the total worth.  mao ba, sir balong?

Talk of the Town / Re: Was Robredo Murdered?
September 13, 2012, 08:40:12 AM
1. puno was ordered by the president to do just that; secure documents/files in robredo's four offices---at the dilg in quezon city, camp crame, national police commission headquarters, and at his condominium.

2.  he had with him a team who did the sealing of documents in those four offices; he himself stayed only at the lobby of the condominium.  they logged in, thus his name appears in the condo's logbook.  only an idiot would write his name on a logbook as proof of his presence if he had something else in mind.  they took nothing and left in 20 minutes.

3.  all along, they were accompanied by secretary de lima and a group from the presidential security team.

4.  indeed, there's an ongoing investigation about the storied arms purchase.  it isn't necessarily about puno.  in fact, his name isn't even in it, at least so far as i can glean.

i can't say i like this guy or not; i do not know him.  i'm just disgusted with the public lynching.  doubts were cast on his motives and he was never given the chance to defend himself.  now he has to go because he can no longer work under a dark cloud.

conspiracies abound.  what is clear is that there's a myriad of faceless people out to defang the president of his minions (aka, KKK--- kamag-anak, kaklase, kabarilan.  puno falls under kabarilan.)

meanwhile, there will always be untrustworthy media reports.  that's why i always take news items with a grain of salt.

very, very sensible advice, especially from someone who is introducing franchising.  di lang nako masunod kay zero kog negosyo.  (it's a matter of attitude, moingon na pod ang financial gurus like this guy.)

Born and raised in northern California, Mr Stevens had been an international trade lawyer in Washington DC before joining the US Foreign Service in 1991.

In a video posted on YouTube after his appointment, Mr Stevens talked of his experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in North Africa after graduating from the University of Berkeley in California.

Mr Stevens speaks in the video of the two years he spent as an English teacher in the Atlas Mountains region of Morocco and how he "quickly grew to love" the area.

On a website run by ex-Peace Corp volunteers, Mr Stevens was described as the "quintessential diplomat" by Joan Mower, who was in his training class at the Foreign Service.

Mr Stevens had "an unflappable personality... He listens to people," Ms Mower said.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also paid tribute to Mr Stevens's "two decades of dedication to advancing closer ties with the people of the Middle East and North Africa".

"Chris was committed to advancing America's values and interests, even when that meant putting himself in danger," Ms Clinton said.

'Unflappable personality'

In an article in a state department publication, Mr Stevens described arriving in Benghazi in April 2011 in a Greek cargo ship to make contact with the TNC.

Mr Stevens and his team facilitated "non-lethal military assistance" to the TNC, the article said.

In diplomatic cables leaked by the Wikileaks site, Mr Stevens had earlier described Col Muammar Gaddafi as "notoriously mercurial" and wrote that he could be an "engaging and charming interlocutor".

A speaker of Arabic and French, Mr Stevens had also been posted elsewhere in the region during his career, including Jerusalem, Damascus and Cairo.

He had worked in several posts in Washington, including at the state department's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens

Obituary: J Christopher Stevens

J Christopher Stevens, who has been killed in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, was a veteran diplomat who had been in the post of Ambassador to Libya since 22 May.

President Barack Obama described Mr Stevens as "a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States".

"Throughout the Libyan revolution, he selflessly served our country and the Libyan people at our mission in Benghazi... His legacy will endure wherever human beings reach for liberty and justice," Mr Obama said.

In a statement to a US Senate committee after his nomination as ambassador, Mr Stevens wrote of his "extraordinary honour" at being selected for the post.

Mr Stevens had held two previous posts in Libya, as deputy chief of the US mission between 2007 and 2009 and then as envoy to the Transitional National Council (TNC) during the Libyan uprising in 2011, according to the US state department.

An "angry crowd" marched on the consulate on Tuesday, furious about an online film considered offensive to Islam, Libya's Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif said Wednesday. The U.S. mission in Egypt was also attacked Tuesday in response to the film.

Al-Sharif said that consulate security staff opened fire when they heard gunfire outside the mission.

"This led to more anger and this is when the consulate was stormed," he said, suggesting that there were elements loyal to the regime of deposed dictator Moammar Gadhafi aiming to create chaos among the protesters.

"Criminals managed to get in and they burned and ransacked the consulate," he said.

The U.S. mission is very badly damaged and was being looted on Wednesday, said a contractor working at the mission, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

He said he saw the bodies of all four Americans on the street Wednesday morning.

Obama condemns killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya

By the CNN Wire Staff
September 12, 2012
1243 GMT

(CNN) -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday strongly condemned the killing of the United States ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, in a rocket attack on the U.S. Consulate in the city of Benghazi on Tuesday.

He called the attack "outrageous," and confirmed that four Americans, including Stevens, were killed.

"Chris was a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States," Obama said.

Stevens was the first U.S. ambassador to be killed in an attack since 1979.

Libya's Prime Minister Abdurrahim el-Keib apologized "to the American people and the government, and also to the rest of the world" for the "cowardly criminal act."

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton identified a second victim as Sean Smith, a Foreign Service information management officer who was a ten-year veteran of the State Department, a husband and a father of two.

The two other victims have not been named.

US warns L'Oreal over anti-aging cream marketing

(philstar.com)
September 12, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) â€" The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning cosmetics maker L'Oreal SA that its website for Genefique exaggerates the benefits of the skin cream, portraying it as a drug with medical properties.

The agency issued a warning letter Friday to the company's Lancome unit, which markets Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate and similar anti-wrinkle cosmetics. The letter was posted to FDA's website Tuesday.

Lancome claims Genefique "boosts the activity of genes" and contains special ingredients that "stimulate cell regeneration to reconstruct skin to a denser quality."

The agency says only drug products are allowed to make such claims, and Lancome has not submitted necessary data to market its product as a drug.

The letter instructs the company to respond to regulators in 15 business days with a plan for correcting the language.

from the deck of this news feature alone that you've so completely posted (kindly share the source too, if at all possible), one is already warned that believing in this is solely the responsibility of the reader.  i quote it here thus:

Behold the mother of all anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

as a theory: maguwang lang gamay sa hypothesis, but it remains an "imperfect fact", as in it cannot be proven as fact.

as a conspiracy: in keeping with the word's meaning, it's "a combination of persons for a secret, unlawful, or evil purpose", and clearly they're after muslims by way of obama.

combine the two, as a conspiracy theory: by the time i get to believe this alleged plan of obama and the muslims, i'll have to obey our senator miriam santiago's famous suggestion to another lawmaker before: i should have my head examined. ;D

Offensive depiction of prophet

Muslims find it offensive to depict Muhammad in any fashion, much less in an insulting way. The 2005 publication of 12 caricatures of the prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper triggered riots in many Muslim countries.

A 14-minute trailer of the movie that sparked the protests, posted on the website YouTube in an original English version and another dubbed into Egyptian Arabic, depicts Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a madman in an overtly ridiculing way, showing him having sex and calling for massacres.

A YouTube spokesperson said the website would not take down the video at this point. The website's guidelines call for removing videos that include a threat of violence, but not those only expressing opinions. YouTube's practice is not to comment on a specific video. (http://www.cbc.ca/)
#30042
The movie lampooning the Prophet is being produced by some expatriate Christian Copts in the US.

On Sunday, Egyptian Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa denounced "the actions undertaken by some extremist Copts who made a film offensive to the Prophet."

He said the offence "affects millions of Muslims around the world" and that the making of such a film could not be justified on the basis of freedom of expression.

"The attack on religious sanctities does not fall under this freedom," said Gomaa.

The offensive film coincides with a symbolic "trial" of the Prophet by anti-Islam pastor Terry Jones, who burnt the Noble Qur'an in 2010, in Florida on Tuesday.

Plot to Divide

Copts also took part in the protest against the offensive movie of the Prophet.

"I am here because I am Egyptian and reject anything that insults Islam or anything that sparks division in Egypt," Rafiq Farouk, 38, told Reuters.

The abusive movie has already drawn condemnation from Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church.

The church said in a statement that some Copts living abroad financed "the production of a film insulting Prophet Mohammad".

About a 10th of Egypt's 83 million people are Christians.

An armed man waves his rifle as buildings and cars are engulfed in flames after being set on fire inside the U.S. Consulate compound in Benghazi, Libya, late on Tuesday, September 11. An armed mob protesting a film they said offended Islam attacked the consulate in Benghazi and set fire to the building, killing one American staff member, witnesses and officials said. (CNN)

In Libya, witnesses say members of a radical Islamist group called Ansar al-Sharia protested near the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, where NATO jets established no-fly zones last year to blunt ground attacks from then Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

The group then clashed with security forces in the city, blocking roads leading to the consulate, witnesses said.

Chief Superintendent Jaime Morente, Southern Mindanao police chief, told reporters here Thursday that because of this possibility, he had ordered a joint investigation by the Davao Oriental and the Davao City police.

Apoyon’s body was found floating off the beach in the municipality of Governor Generoso on Tuesday, five days after he was reported missing in Davao, where he had a house.

Morente said he wanted to know why Apoyon had a stab wound on the right side of his abdomen.

“I have directed the city director to conduct a joint investigation with the Governor Generoso police,” Morente said.

He said the stab wound was found by a coroner who examined Apoyon’s body on Tuesday.

if a banana is unavailable, i ask around for anybody who was born feet first.  as those who qualify for this are rarer than a banana, i then use the paw of a cat to gently massage the part of my neck or the part just under the chin (outside, please; not inside) where i believe the fish bone is stuck inside.  of course, the cat is always mine.  a stranger of a cat would be impossible to hold, much less lead its paw to massage my neck.  works every time, too.  (for the curious, yes, any cat i "use" keeps its moveable nails safely inside their "sockets".)   this may fall under health myth instead of health capsules, but it's no myth for me.

pero kong di-a pa lang ka mag pojo sa states, ma feel jud nimo nga mas lisod ang kahimtang karon sa mga tawo. personally i have friends who have lost their homes to foreclosure. usa sa ahong amiga by the name of baldev, she is from india, is married to a pinoy. nawad-an intawon ug trabaho iyang bana, mao nga na pogos na lang nga manarbaho sa china ang iyang bana nga si danny. . ang ilang balay dere sa poinciana na foreclose intawon. gi short sale. that was her dream home kay nia lagi sa millionaires row. million dollar homes ang ilang gipoy-an sa bella lago. mao nay ngan sa ilang "subdivision" dere sa among dapit. tulo sila ahong mga amigo nga na foreclose ang balay. maayo na lang kay naa may laing balay si baldev, tua sa palm beach.

too bad about your friends.  they chose a home at a millionaire's row and it was foreclosed?  it could mean they didn't have enough money to pay for the loan they made on it.  it could also mean they counted their chickens before they were hatched.  when the going was good, they must have thought they had it all, forgetting the fact that no good thing lasts.

anything could have happened (the loss of a job; and he did lose it) or death (simbako lang), and the house on millionaire's row will still have to go.  why blame a sitting president for a personal decision that was planned to be supported by money that was not in one's pocket yet?

here are some reasons given for the u.s. recession:
____________________

Suspect Lending Practices

To entice homeowners into the mortgage market, lenders started offering “sub-prime” mortgages. These mortgages had characteristics that appealed to low-income families, including low or zero down payments, long amortization periods, and low “teaser” interest rates that accelerated quickly after the initial year or two of the loan. To push mortgage sales, many unregulated lenders engaged in unscrupulous practices, such as approving loans to borrowers who weren’t required to provide proof of employment and income, or didn’t possess any assets.

Homes as ATMs

The growing use of home prices to finance increasing consumer spending also contributed to the crisis. Households used the extraordinary run-up in home prices to refinance their debt and used some of the extra cash to buy more goodsâ€"boats, cottages, and new consumer electronicsâ€"while foregoing savings. Why save money when the prevailing wisdom at the time was that home prices could only go up, never down?

The mix of lax regulation, aggressive and dishonest lenders, naive borrowers, inappropriate policy responses by the Fed, and low household savings eventually led to a housing market meltdown beginning in late 2006 and a severe U.S. recession that just came to an end last summer. However, that doesn’t explain why some bizarre lending practices in the United States came close to toppling the entire global economy. (Kip Beckman, Principal Research Associate, Forecasting and Analysis, February 16, 2010, http://www.conferenceboard.ca/insideedge/2010/february-2010/feb16-what-caused-the.aspx)

americans are a dynamic people.  when the financial navel-gazing ceased, they were dynamic enough to realize that their lifestyles were propped up by credit.  they realized that they were living beyond their means.  and they did something about it; they started spending less and saving more.  some took to blaming their president.

your friend though can still count his blessings.  he has a job in china and a house in palm beach.  he can always aim again for a house on millionaire's row when he's already a millionaire.

ISLANDER,

nalipay ko nga nia ka nag kalingaw ug reply . i can see that if you can vote you will vote for obama. kay ang injo god nga kanunay ma basahan sa newspaper pabor man ni obama.

way sapayan, sir bals.  a healthy discussion and expression of opinions on various things and events i gather is always welcome anywhere, this forum included.

voting for obama if i were in the u.s.?  not necessarily.  who can say if my reality there would be similar to yours, personal bias included?

diay, dili tanan nga mabasa diri sa ato pabor ni obama.  pareha ra tag mabasa kay ang sources sa mabasa diri wa may kalainan sa sources dinha.  besides, we're just as engrossed with our own affairs here, it's not as if everyone bothers about the u.s., to be honest.

ang ako lang nga na-interesado ko sa imong posts ug tubag-tubag kay having had a past career in writing, believer ko ug balance in reporting, of which the initial step to take is to try to understand all sides to get at the truth.  please note that in the process i take care to understand yours.  it also pays to try to understand the politics of the authors/sources of your posts, if at all possible.

writers have their own biases too, as you can see.  when an article appears to be painfully subjective, i try my best to find out why (even at the expense of forgetting my daily laundry).

be assured that i'll try my best to be as objective here as i can, which is something that i could very well be because i'm but an observer who won't be voting for anyone in the u.s.

hinay-hinayon lang ni nako ha?

all for a healthy discussion and how our thoughts can be kept from going berserk. ;D

Leaving the country as a tourist but with the intention of working abroad
Escort Services â€" tourist/workers “escorted” at the country’s airports and seaports

unfortunately, these two are the most common.  hapit tanan nakong makaila sa gawas, in one way or another, had been "tourists" sometime in one of their exits from our country.  the second one, the "escort services", is part of the package.  somehow our own immigration people at our airports are in cahoots with illegal recruiters.  i say this without batting an eyelash.

in 2010, the "escort service" fee (purportedly to "smoothen" your exit through immigration at our airports, otherwise those people will hold you back because they know you're a fake tourist) was 5k pesos.  by the middle of 2011, it rose to 15k.  ambot pila na karon.  naa na silay contra-senyas between job recruitment guys and immigration personnel.

i went out once at around the same time; the immigration guy at the airport repeatedly told me that as an ofw i have to go to another queue.  ang tonto, i thought, gustong maniguro sa 15k.  it is as if it was beyond him that all who go out are not necessarily ofws.

di ni matabang.  mosumbong ka ikaw pay matutyo because the burden of proof is on you.  wa baya nay receipt nang imong ibayad.  diha bitaw nisuway ug sumbong, bahalag di siya madayon sa gawas, aguy, giadto man hinoon sa ila.

the u.s. recession officially started in december, 2008, during the presidency of george w., a republican.  it did not happen overnight, naturally.  thus one can safely say that the run-up to the recession happened during the term of president bush and broke loose at the end of his term.  obama simply inherited it.

some economists (nobel awardee paul krugman, for one), point to republican partisanship as the reason why the u.s. can't seem to get out of its current financial quagmire.

this is a good read, though a very long one.  but here one can get a clearer picture of the reasons for the u.s. financial slump:

as usual, i got curious.  are passion fruit and pomegranate one and the same?  not at all, i found out.

according to wikipedia, passion fruit (grenadilla in tagalog, wa ko kahibawo sa bisaya ani; scientific name: Passiflora edulis) "...is round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds".

Ripe purple type from Australia and its cross section

pomegranate (granada in bisaya, scientific name: Punica granatum) "...is a berry and is between a lemon and a grapefruit in size, 5â€"12 cm in diameter with a rounded hexagonal shape, and has thick reddish skin".

The pomegranate
