correct! :) It's a combination of balancing equations and calculating the delta H for the reaction. This was fairly simple compared to the things on the test. =/

Bible Study / Reply: Death and Dying- Your views?
January 08, 2008, 06:41:32 PM
I have a friend that I have known since I we were about 3 or 4 and we're basically like brothers/sisters. His dad passed away shortly after we met them and of course, we didn't know how to react then. Summing it up a bit, as both of our summers were winding down, I had my wisdom tooth taken out, so I was pretty drowsy and unaware of myself during that time. A couple hours after my procedure, my mom received a call from one of my good friends from high school. When I woke up, my mom told me that her boyfriend passed away. It took me a couple minutes to figure out that her boyfriend was the best friend of the guy that I have known since I was young. It seemed like everything wore off, the Vicodin, the pain in my tooth, everything. I had a loss of appetite even though my stomach grumbled fiercely. Every now and then, me and my friend have these talks online about what he has on his mind. Just this morning he couldn't go to sleep thinking about everything that has happened to him. In times of his need, I always turn to my faith to give me words of wisdom to calm him down.

I took a class about the "mystery of suffering and death" and although it was fairly easy, it taught me a lot about what people of all cultures go through. Pain is a universal feeling, but each person has their own cultural way -example: ceremonies- of dealing with it.

I looked at a couple books on low or no sugar desserts and I grabbed a little recipe for a low fat cannoli w/berries. :)

Bowl #1
1 pint sliced strawberries (or other sweet berries)
1 teaspoon splenda or equal to sweeten berries)

Bowl #2
2 teaspoons splenda or equal (to sweeten cottage cheese)
1 twelve oz package of low-fat cottage cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 grated orange (or lemon) rind

optional stuff: Semisweet chocolate (grated) to top the cream and lady fingers.

1) toss the berries in 1 teaspoon splenda, set aside.

2) get another bowl and use a blender to whip the cottage cheese until its fluffy.
3) add the 2 teaspoons of splenda to the cottage cheese
4) add vanilla and the orange (or lemon) rind.
5) grab 6 small bowls, put some berries in it, and top with the cottage cheese mixture.
6) enjoy! :)

----------------------

A teenager has told of how his knife-proof hoodie saved his life when he was attacked by muggers.

The 15-year-old victim was slashed more than 20 times across his back and arms when he was targeted by two men at a cash machine.

Speaking under the the pseudonym of John Cook, he said: 'I thought the mugger was hitting me at first, but then I saw the blood on my hands.

'When I got home, I saw there were loads of knife marks on the hoodie. I would have been cut up if I hadn't been wearing it.'

The trendy black Kevlar hoodies are made from stab-and-fire resistant material used in body armour worn by British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The jackets, which hit the shops earlier this year, were designed by a company in Romford, Essex, to protect teens from growing knife attacks on Britain's streets.

But John said: 'I knew about knife crime before but it had never affected me so I wasn't too worried about it.

'I only bought the jacket because I liked the look of it.'

Since the attack in Bethnal Green, East London, the teenager and his new £65 hoodie have been inseparable â€" and he has persuaded lots of his friends to splash out on one, too.

The hoodies have also proved a hit with female joggers and dog walkers â€" prompting makers Bladerunner to bring them out in baby blue and pink.

---------------

This is pretty cool, but you're going to have to dish out $130 USD.  ;)

What was reported over one of Tagbilarans radio stations went something like this:

"This is an advisory from the Philippine National Police.
If you are driving on a Friday or Saturday night and you happen to see a car coming at you on the opposite side of the road with out lights, do not flash your lights at them? they are members of the blood gang.
Do not flash your lights at them or highbeam them as they are known to come after the car that does that to them chase it down and shoot and kill everyone in the car to complete their mission."

I remember an alert a few years ago -in the States- having a quite similar statement... It's true. Gangs do this kind of stuff everywhere. Actually, it's supposed to be a gang initiation mission. Gang members are recruited, I assume, anytime of the month... so people just have to be mindful of their surroundings.

I'm too lazy to read everyone's posts to its entirety. :P But, from the jist of it, it seems like there is somewhat of a general stereotype floating around here. Filipino's marry foreigners to have a better life.

I am certainly NOT saying that ALL or the MAJORITY of the filipino women are gold-diggers. There are a minority of them, I can't lie... Like Happy said, it happens with all races, not just Filipino. It simply depends on the morals and values of each individual. What I strongly believe is that no one should ever judge a book by its cover. I'm half Filipino, and I would get pissed off if someone were to say my mom married my dad just because he has a better living than her. It shouldn't come down to that. There are a LOT of people who marry outside their race out of pure love for them.

Just saying...

Anyway, can we all just please go back on the topic of this thread? I'm pretty sure this thread was meant to make people laugh rather than argue.  :)

Disclaimer: I'm not hatin on anyone, I just had to say that... lol

Jokes and Humor / Entrance Exam to Heaven
November 02, 2007, 11:37:47 AM
I was taking my Philosophy midterm and this was one of the passages on there  ;D

For all those who need a good laugh :)

-------------------------------

The day finally arrived: Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven.

He is met at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter himself. The gates are closed, however, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

Saint Peter says, "Well, Forrest, it's certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you. I must inform you that the place is filling up fast, and we've been administering an entrance exam for everyone. The tests are fairly short, but you need to pass before you can get into Heaven."

Forrest responds, "It shore is good to be here, Saint Peter. I was looking forward to this. Nobody ever told me about no entrance exams Shore hope the test ain't too hard; life was a big enough test as it was."

Saint Peter goes on, "Yes, I know Forrest. But, the test I have has only two questions. Here is the first: What days of the week begin with the letter 'T'? Second, how many seconds are there in a year?

Forrest goes away to think the questions over. He returns the next day and goes up to Saint Peter to try to answer the exam questions.

Saint Peter waves him up and asks, "Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers."

Forrest says, "Well, the first one, how many days of the week begin with the letter 'T'? Shucks, that one's easy; that'd be Today and Tomorrow.

The saint's eyes opened wide and he exclaims, "Forrest! That's not what I was thinking, but... you do have a point though, and I guess I didn't specify, so I give you credit for that answer." "How about the next one?" says Saint Peter, "How many seconds in a year?"

"Now that one's harder," says Forrest. "But, I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve."

Astounded, Saint Peter says, "Twelve! Twelve! Forrest, how could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?"

Forrest says, "Shucks, there gotta be twelve: January second, February second, March second......."

"Hold it," interrupts Saint Peter. "I see where you're going with it. And I guess I see your point, though that wasn't quite what I had in mind. I'll give you credit for that one too. Come on in."

TB friends, smiffytheninja is a big fan of pinoy delicacies.  She particularly likes halo-halo, pan de sal, peanuts cooked the Pinoy way, and a lot more!  She will rush to get a cart whenever we go to the Pinoy stores.

Too bad you eat the whole garlic peanuts container every time I offer it to you :( haha  joke-joke lang.

Hello Babe!  Welcome to TB!  I am glad you join us!  Sometimes we speak Bisaya so just ask for clarification!

By the way, TB friends,  smiffytheninja is our dearest baby cousin here in Sacramento!  She is a nice, well-behaved half and half kid!  She is the most favorite daugther of her parents because she is unica hija! hahahah  She is now a college girl too!  Welcome, Bebe and join the fun but don't spend too much time here so you can study your lessons!  I don't study my lessons anymore so it's ok if I stay all night and day long! hahahaha

salamat sa life story a-taaay... hahaha

I have Chemistry/Philosophy midterms this week  :'(

Technology / Re: Opera Beats Firefox and Explorer?
October 30, 2007, 03:40:45 PM
So far, I've downloaded Firefox, Opera, IE, and Safari. Firefox is by far the easiest and most versatile internet browser there is. Most major banks, flash websites, online stores, etc, are compatible with Firefox. If you're looking to optimize your internet security and never have a pop-up in your browser, Opera is your browser! Whenever I'm on eBay, Facebook, or MySpace, I never get the unwanted ads that usually pop up on IE or Firefox. This totally comes in handy when you're looking up lyrics to your favorite song to only be greeted with two to three pop up ads.  :)

Whatever we classify calamay as, it's really good! But it's a pain when it sticks to the top of your mouth or in between your teeth...  ;D
