Sir Ben,

When are you arriving? I'm not available on May 11 since my papa and mama (my dad's brother and his wife) are celebrating their 50th wedding anniv and i'll be singing during the ceremony. Dili pwede mo-ikyas. Can we meet later that evening? Like coffee na lang or something? I'll tell Paul about you plan. He might be able to meet you.

About GEC, I may know him in person. Mao na ang pungot kay di magpaila dinhi. Anyway, I hope he's a friend and not someone i don't like. (hehehehe! padungog-dunog ba! Aron magpaila na gyud siya...)

Hehehe! I guess the expression is slowly becoming 'obsolete.' Most of those who use 'cholera' are the older ones. Our young ones are learning and inventing new expressions. The time is changing.

wow, grazie! how nice of you to think of that... thanks for that thought! i appreciate it!

In 'Eleven Minutes,' the protagonist/hero has a Filipina friend- the 'sensible' prostitute. Well, the Brazillian protagonist is a prostitute herself. Both are working in Switzerland. I was supposed to get hurt but I thought- it's reality anyhow. At least, amiga siya sa bida!

I saw a copy of 'Five People' in my cousin's room. I'll look for 'One More Day.'

hi, grazie! I read na 'Tuesdays' many years ago but it wasn't my copy. It's hard to find one gyud. I'll decide later today which book to read first. Is 'Veronica' nice?

I'm reading 'Blue like Jazz' these days. It's a witty book about christian spirituality. Someone lent me that book a long time ago and i had so many excuses not to read it. it felt that i know what the writer wants to share. i felt i don't need it because i'm a good christian anyway. (ha! mao ba gyud?) somehow, i know God has something to tell me. i started to read it again.

yes, naay national bookstore diri. it's in ICM.

Hi, Grazie! I'm not a fan yet. I only read two of his books so far. There are 2 more books in my cousin's room, which I have yet to borrow. hehe!

Sigbin gave me "The Alchemist" two years ago after he won a gift certificate from National Bookstore as a prize for his book review in one of the major broadsheets. (Was it for the Star, Paul?) I told him I like "Tuesdays with Morrie" but he could not find it at the stores (since it sells like hotcakes!).

So you like Coelho's works? "The Alchemist" was good. He was consistent in his style from beginning to end. He was consistent with the point of view of the writer/character. I like the story of "Eleven Minutes" but I hate it when Coelho jumps from a topic to discuss another subtopic at length. He also jumps from one point of view to the next. Well, lahi pod iyang style aning libroha. Nindot ra man gihapon! The topic is deep and philosophical, and SEXY! ehehe!

Watch the PINOY INDIE FILMS, grabe! Pinoys are very talented. There's "Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" and "Sarungbanggi." I heard "Kubrador" made waves in the international scene. I saw a copy at the local video stores. Might get one soon!

Check them out!

I like the Japanese legendary filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa. I got all his films but haven't watched them all. hehehe! They have been sitting on my shelf for years. But I love "Rashomon."

I like the Chinese, Wong Kar Wai, too! (wait, hala! Taiwanese ba to siya?) His "Chungking Express" was nice!

My all time favorite is "The Sound of Music." Well, I guess everybody loves Roger and Hammerstein's tunes. Just can't help but sing with the kids. No?

;D

What else?

There's this Korean film, "Takegushi." Aguy! Sakto ba ni? It's about the South and North Korean War in the 50's. It's a brilliant film. Good technicals, good script, good acting, good music, good good everything. Not to mention handsome actors! yeaaaaaaaaah!

Hi, anj! There's a book entitled, "I love you just the way you are!" It's a short picture book about a grumpy little bear, but his dad told him, " I love you just the way you are!" Nice, no?

There's this short picture book entitled, "Guess how much I love you." I guess, you know that book. It's a famous one! It's nice especially when you read it out loud to kids (and kids of other ages...hehehe!)

i just finished reading "The Magician's Nephew," which is the first book of "The Chronicles of Narnia" last night. I read the second book, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" years ago because it was the more famous one. i'll start to read the third book later tonight.

It's funny to think how CS Lewis came up with the characters, the plot, and the story as a whole. It's quite a wild imagination, gyud. Anyhow, it was a good book. Good storytelling!

Book Reviews / Comment: Do You Still Read Books?
January 04, 2008, 11:08:48 AM
I used to read a lot when I was younger. Now, I'm starting to look for the old books I used to read as a little girl. The books that had somehow influenced the person that I am now. I go to bookstores, book sales, and garage sales to look for familiar titles. Last week, I found this book from the "I Can Read It By Myself" Series. It's entitled, "Are You My Mother?" It's about a little bird whose mother was away to look for food at the time he was hatched. He went away from the nest to look for his mother. He had quite an adventure.

I collect short story books and children's books. The one I love most is "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. It's a story for children and children of all ages. (yeah!) It's written in a way that a storyteller can can incorporate music/singing while telling the story. It's a very nice story. I had several storytelling sessions with my mom, sisters, aunt, cousins, and friends (and at a mall...) and they all cried after the story ended.

You can watch a storytelling session over youtube. They sing a different tune from mine, though. Ilaha ang orig. hehehe! Apan silingan ra gud og tono. I learn the song from my friend and I liked her version. I guess, we can make our own tunes naman. (Noh?)

Anyhow, mao gyud ni ako masulti: Books are enriching experiences. (Yeah!)

Hello Melrose,

Your idea is quite interesting. Yes, it is one of Sigbin's proposal to watch moonrise and sunrise in Anda, this suggestion seems  applicable for lovers, isn't? I like the idea too but I guess, we must have to make that preliminary coffee/klatsch a day before for proper planning in order to know how many interested members like to participate and the date (Dec. 30,2007) as might be the right one. Please talk  to our Promoter, Sigbin  in this regards.  Have you been in this Anda beach already?  Do we have to bring with us our own tents and some cooking utensils?  Can we make a barbeque party there? I also want to know if there is a possible accomodation in that Beach? Can anybody who is based here  get enough time to check-out such undertakings?  Would be really very nice if our Administrator  100% be there on that time.  Do excuse of these inquiries, I think this must be considered important. I thank you.

hi! miss bambi!

Anda has a lot of beaches to go to. There are resorts in Anda where we can stay. But in those "barren" beaches that i'm thinking about don't have anything. So, it's quite a challenge to bring our own tents and the other things that we might need. But i haven't been there for quite some time. Yeah, i think there should be an advance party to go there to check out the place. Hehehe! It's nice nga for lovers! hehehe! but it's nice for friends, too.

I like RV's suggestion. I've been to Danao and did some trekking but i haven't been to the caves yet. But we can't have chit chats while climbing those steep rocks and hills. But i'd love to go there again soon. the view is really wonderful.

AWWW! Gipadakop na unta 'tang tanan ani... Yaya' baya gyud ang kasagarang pagkanta nato sa "bayang." it's supposed to be fast and upbeat kay march man gud kaha na. Unja kay pina 4/4 nga gakamang ang beat man atong kinantahan, mangapriso diay 'ta ani? Wa baya tay pepte tawsan.  :P

sige, mangita 'tag blam(on) nato? DEP-Ed? ang eskwelahan? ang music teacher? Hmmm. Kinsa man kuno? 'di na lang...

Lorenzo, I admire your talent when it comes to fragrances. Para nako, basta humot ok na. I've come to realize that wearing perfumes is like wearing clothes, too. Thanks for the inspiration...

;D Well, perfumes here in the Philippines cost much.Like a bottle of beyond paradise is around 3K. i like the green bulgari but it costs around that amount, too.  Mao na we don't dwell too much on perfumes. Colognes are much more popular here. Most girls like Victoria's Secret kay it's around 500 lang og dako na. But we have local fragrances from Penshoppe and Bench. And GEC is right, there's always Johnson's Baby Cologne and its counterparts.

Well, I have favorite perfumes, too. (kinsay manggasa? hehehe!) I like beyond paradise, pleasures, bulgari.   ;D

I missed the EB. I really wanted to join the group but I was in Cebu when Sigbin texted about it. I hope there will be another one soon. I'd really love to meet you mr. jun. (We read about you in sir loy's feature!)

Delaguna talked about the eb last night. we met during a dinner party at the bohol beach club. actually, i'm sitting next to sigbin right now. We went to the Poverty Fair 2007 this afternoon and in the morning at the ecobudget-Asia conference. I think he's going to post some pics from the eb... hmmm. lili-on sa nako iya pc, ha.

Hi, RV.  Mitzi is here in Tagbilaran. She's still active with her art with words. She has done research on Bol-anon folk literature and is active with the advocacy in promoting arts and culture to children. Nice no?

I met Silagon years ago, she's a nice woman. She's a family friend. The rumors are really beside the issue on ZTE. She's a private person, I hope media can keep it that way.

Mari: i know the guy at brew point. he's a friend of mine. he's a painter who writes poetry. i don't know if he's GEC, though. the connection is their talent in using words.
