Hi blog,

So i left chicago at about 6pm and drove from chicago to new jersey and took me about 16 hours to get home! lol.
I took 6 breaks in the high way, and 3 of them were 'sleeping' breaks. My goodness! I really don't know how truck drivers can drive for extended periods of time!

My GPS guided me home, but there were moments were i was a bit worried during my drive. It was raining (ice rain) throughout and was rather worried. I had to lower my speed multiple times for fear of hydroplaning.

By God's Grace i arrived home. I greeted my beloved mother and father in the traditional mano po manner. My mother and father prepared thanksgiving dinner and my brothers and our dog came downstairs as soon as i opened the door. And to my surprise they were so happy, as was I. Immediately i saw the fresh red roses in our altar for Senor Santo Nino hehehe. Pasalamat ko intawn ni Senyor Santo Nino, who guided me back home safely and protected me, and continues to protect me. Indeed , there is beauty in family.

Later that night we went to visit our uncle steve and auntie beth's house and had dinner with them and family and family friends. Thanks be to God!

God is so Good. God is so Loving. Thanks be to God for all that He has showered upon me, and for the blessings this year and for future blessings in years to come. Thanks be to God. Always and Forever.

I hope all of you bolanons who celebrated Thanksgiving had a great one! And to all bolanons in the world, blessings and peace be with you all!

Love,
Lorenzo

Happy Thanksgiving sa mga US-based Tubaganons. Good morning to all!
I have a rough night, only now that thew news that someone in my family has pancreatic cancer just sank in. It hurts really hard when you know that days are numbered, it hurt even more to see the people you love slowly lying in bed.

PANCREATIC.. wish it could have been different kind at least for the hope. At 6% survival rate, I am hoping against hope.

Wolf, pm me the name of your family member. I will mention this in my novena to Senor Santo Nino. God Bless  your family members , most especially the one who is suffering. God's Love embraces and surrounds us all the time. Let us pray for God's Continued Blessings and Compassion...

Happy Thanksgiving Season!!

In Christ,
Lorenzo.

I knew I was home. Birthplace of my paternal generations. How beautiful are your bounties and people. My people...

passion pit's "live to tell the tale"

hearing this song reminds me of everything, driving with her, our kisses, our stares in Starbucks, the smell of her scent. everything.
its akin to seeing a sunrise as one jogs in the morning, when the sun shines on one's face..and for that brief moment, lights the joy within a man.

10:23 PM, central standard time (Chicago)

I left my apartment at 7:45 pm and began a long 2 hour jog on the city bike trail that stretches throughout the entire span of the city's lake front. I think i covered about 7 miles one way, and 7 miles back; all in all a 14 mile brisk jog. I was dressed in simple black jogging pants, my cycling shirt and my blue northface jacket. The sound of Anberlin played as I jogged. There is an unexplainable beauty in the silence of the night. As i trecked through the central district, i passed by this rather interesting native american statue , what made it more interesting and rather picturesque in my jogging eye (blurred by the effervescent hot air that mingled with the cold atmosphere) was that above the statue was the moon in full radiance.

As I jogged through, thoughts of my family, friends, and feelings of the heart was bellowing throughout my mind. I find this exercise a great way to relieve the stress accrued at work and in dealing with homesickness. Deep inside my mind i know that thanksgiving is coming, and knowing that i wont be home to celebrate it with my family is a painstaking reality. But this is a must. This is, i guess, a necessary sacrifice in the life of a Medical Intern.

I find myself justifying the years that have passed by, still a student, still not settled in a life observed in stability. I find it rather disheartening sometimes how many of my friends (who are not in the medical field) are already engaged, married, have children, have a fulltime job, earning a decent salary and living their dreams. building their futures. caring for their families. I find myself longing. At already 25. and engaged in this MD-Ph.D program, I find myself knowing the fact that i have never really cemented a committed relationship before. Perhaps it is the fear of being hurt, as i was before, perhaps it is the sense of guilt of hurting the women whom loved be before, perhaps. perhaps both. It is a reality that i must take and internalized. have internalized. and yet i find myself seeing the reality of it all. The reality that i will be in the 'late 20s' or 'early thirties' when i am finished with this prestigious program. But i cannot complain, really. Because i have goaled for this. i have yearned for this since i was but a college freshman; stolen myself away from commitments to the pure study of biology, medicine. but why do i find myself questioning now? perhaps its because many of my friends are now fathers. husbands. or fiances. where do i stand in this? a boyfriend. a medical intern.

the jog tonight allowed me to think. clear my mind. and blaze forward, unhindered by thoughts of family. i do pray to God that someday, someday, i will be blessed with a wife, children, and a family to call my own. pohon. all according to His Time.

So tonight was a good night. a good jog. a good exercise. i contemplated. and i reasoned it all out.

Such is the life of an intern.

My words, my thoughts. ~

Lorenzo.

Poems and Poets / A Christmas Greeting
November 24, 2010, 08:04:22 AM
-Walt Whitman

Welcome, Brazilian brother--thy ample place is ready;
A loving hand--a smile from the north--a sunny instant hall!
(Let the future care for itself, where it reveals its troubles,
impedimentas,
Ours, ours the present throe, the democratic aim, the acceptance and
the faith;)
To thee to-day our reaching arm, our turning neck--to thee from us
the expectant eye,
Thou cluster free! thou brilliant lustrous one! thou, learning well,
The true lesson of a nation's light in the sky,
(More shining than the Cross, more than the Crown,)
The height to be superb humanity.

Poems and Poets / Christmas in the Olden Time
November 24, 2010, 08:03:06 AM
-Sir Walter Scott

Heap on more wood! â€" the wind is chill;
But let it whistle as it will,
We’ll keep our Christmas merry still.
Each age has deemed the new born year
The fittest time for festal cheer.
And well our Christian sires of old.
Loved when the year its course had rolled,
And brought blithe Christmas back again,
With all his hospitable train.
Domestic and religious rite
Gave honour to the holy night:
On Christmas eve the bells were rung;
On Christmas eve the mass was sung;
That only night, in all the year,
Saw the stoled priest the chalice rear.
The damsel donned her kirtle sheen;
The hail was dressed with holly green;
Forth to the wood did merry men go,
To gather in the mistletoe,
Then opened wide the baron’s hail
To vassal, tenant, serf, and all;
Power laid his rod of rule aside,
And ceremony doff’d his pride.
The heir, with roses in his shoes,
That night might village partner choose.
The lord, underogating, share
The vulgar game of “post and pair!”
All hailed with uncontroll’d delight
And general voice, the happy night
That to the cottage, as the crown,
Brought tidings of salvation down.
The fire with well dried logs supplied,
Went roaring up the chimney wide;
The huge hail table’s oaken face,
Scrubb’d till it shone, the day to grace,
Bore then upon: its massive board
No mark to part the squire and lord.
Then was brought in the lusty brawn,
By old, blue-coated serving-man;
Then the grim boar’s head frowned on high,
Crested with bays and rosemary.
Well can the green-garbed ranger tell,
How, when, and where, the monster fell;
What dogs before his death he tore,
And all the baiting of the boar.
The wassail round in good brown bowls,
Garnished with ribbon, blithely trowls.
There the huge sirloin reeked: hard by
Plum-porridge stood, and Christmas pie;
Nor failed old Scotland to produce
At such high tide her savoury goose.
Then came the merry masquers in,
And carols roar’d with blithesome din;
If unmelodious was the song,
It was a hearty note, and strong.
Who lists may in their mumming see
Traces of ancient mystery;
White shirts supplied the masquerade,
And smutted cheeks the visor made
But oh! what masquers, richly dight,
Can boast of bosoms half so light!
England was merry England when
Old Christmas brought his sports again.
’Twas Christmas broached the mightiest ale,
’Twas Christmas told the merriest tale;
A Christmas gambol oft would cheer
A poor man’s heart through half the year.

Consequences of renal failure

what is renal failure?
a: the failure to make urine and excrete nitrogenous wastes.

Uremia--clinical syndrome marked by INCREASED BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and INCREASED creatinine and associated symptoms.

Consequences:
1. Anemia (failure of erythropoietin production)
2. renal osteodystrophy (failure of active vit. D production)
3. hyperkalemia, which can lead to cardiac arrythmias
4. metabolic acidosis due to DECREASED acid secretion and DECREASED  generation of HCO3 (bicarbonate)
5. Uremic encephalopathy
6. Sodium and H20 excess --> CHF and pulmonary edema
7. Chronic pyelonephritis
8. Hypertension

Note: There are 2 forms of renal failure:
a) acute renal failure : due to acute tubular necrosis

Hi blog,

I woke up this morning at 5:25 am (central standard time) to the sound of the trucks passing my apartment. it was rather dark outside, but i decided to dress in my biking attire and went out for a cycle. it was so cold outside, i think it was about 55 degrees Fahrenheit when i went out. Dressed only in my thin shorts, upper-body attire and my northface jacket. clipped my black helmet and my ipod on my ears. warrior on the prowl.

the sound of anberlin playing as i broke through the cold winds; the darkness of the park surrounding and the chilling wind pounding my body. it was refreshing! i did a quick 6 mile cycle before turning back.

there's nothing like a feeling of cold winds hitting your face as you go full speed on a 25 speed trail bike. the complete exhilaration of it all, the endorphins that set in, one can barely feel one's fingers because of the cold, but the intense sense of euphoric feeling through the cycle justifies it.

on the cycle back, i saw a lady jogging with spandex shorts (thin to the brim) and a simple upper body attire. was she not cold?  ;)

beautiful view. let us conquer the day.

Yes, it very expensive to fall in love, quantifiable and non-quantifiable costs, both are.

emotions of the heart, the spirit that is uplifted (or in cases, deflated) in the acquisition of Love is priceless.
love is so strong, yet so very fragile, and it must be nourished continuously; trust being an essential water of love.

love, by law, is expensive. sometimes, there are those who die at the loss of love.

hehe deep man ka kaayo, Brod. Bedo! There really is beauty in simplicity. This video shows us not to judge a book by its cover; in the beginning, the crowd and judges were laughing at his background, as a 'country-folk', however, the moment his lips began to sing, the reaction of the crowd is priceless.

Truly, there is beauty in simplicity and in a wonderful voice.
