The American Dialect Society had a number of related terms for Word of the year nominations in 2004, including Janet moment (unplanned bodily exposure at a public function), boobgate (scandal over Janet Jackson's exposed breast), nipplegate (Like boobgate, but used earlier in squawk over Jackson's possible nipple ring) and wardrobe malfunction (overexposure in a mammary way). The term has been translated into other languages to describe similar incidents, including garderobedefect (Dutch), incident de garde-robe or défaut de fonctionnement de garde-robe (French), disfunzione del guardaroba or incidente del guardaroba (Italian), and mal funcionamiento del guardarropa (Spanish). Why was Kanye pulling up his pants as he exited a limo with Kim Kardashian? She says his wardrobe malfunction was caused by his belt getting caught on a hook on the door and his belt being so heavy that it was hard to pull his pants up. Uh huh.

hehehe, that's still him.  some guys are lucky (kay wa siya kaeget.)

The term is credited as having been coined by singers Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, on February 1, 2004, to explain the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy; the controversy is in reference to Jackson's right breast having been bared. The print version of the Urban Dictionary describes it as "an accidental or supposedly accidental failure of clothing to cover parts of the body intended to be covered, made famous by Justin Timberlake during a Super Bowl halftime when he tore off Janet Jackson's clothes". [unreliable source?] After the Super Bowl incident, the term "wardrobe malfunction" appeared in 5,028 stories in major US consumer and business publications, newspapers, and major TV and radio broadcasts. Journalist Eric Alterman described the incident as "the most famous 'wardrobe malfunction' since Lady Godiva". (wikipedia)

that's the current filipino favorite, justin bieber

The American Dialect Society defines it as "an unanticipated exposure of bodily parts". Global Language Monitor, which tracks usage of words on the internet and in newspapers worldwide, identified the term as the top Hollywood contribution to English (HollyWordie) in 2004, surpassing words like girlie men, Yo! and frass. The term was also one of the new entrants into the Chambers Dictionary in 2008, along with words like electrosmog, carbon footprint, credit crunch and social networking. The dictionary defines it as "the temporary failure of an item of clothing to do its job in covering a part of the body that it would be advisable to keep covered". One source defines it as, accidental and indecent exposure of body parts by a fault in someone's clothing (especially that of a performer) or by an error made while changing this costume. (wikipedia)

brought to you through the courtesy of the latest fashion faux pas of anne hathaway...

A wardrobe malfunction is a euphemism for accidental exposure of intimate parts. It is different from flashing, as the latter implies a deliberate exposure. There has been a long history of such incidents, though the term itself was coined in the mid 2000s and has become one of the most common fashion faux pas. In everyday context it often happens as a nipple slip to women and is relatively common, but wardrobe malfunction suggests a public event or performance, particularly when there are allegations that it was deliberately staged for publicity reasons. Hathaway’s creative turn of Lauer’s question didn’t go unnoticed, and though she seemed somewhat unfazed by the tough question, her fans immediately came to her defense. Viewers seemed to widely agree that Lauer took it too far both with his question and his joke.

“Props to Anne Hathaway for standing up to Matt Lauer and his inappropriate line of questioning,” one user wrote on Twitter.

“Who treats Anne Hathaway like that??? She’s a lady. She [should have] slapped Matt Lauer…” another fumed.

"It was obviously an unfortunate incident," she continued. "It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it--and do the decent thing--sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to 'Les Mis,' that's what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net.

“Yeah so let’s get back to ‘Les Mis,’” the actress concluded.

Anne Hathaway: Wardrobe malfunction ‘makes me sad;’ Matt Lauer under fire for question

December 13, 2012

Hollywood sweetheart Anne Hathaway could probably use some sympathy after her mortifying wardrobe malfunction earlier this week, but she wasn’t getting any from Matt Lauer during her Wednesday “Today” show appearance.

“We’ve seen a lot of you lately,” Lauer quipped as he opened the segment with the actress, who was there to talk about her performance in “Les Miserables.”

Lauer was referring to a moment on Monday night that Anne is likely trying to forget, when she hopped out of a car at the “Les Mis” premiere and flashed photographers sans underwear.

“I’d be happy to stay home,” an embarrassed Hathaway said. “But the film…

no, she did not forget her underwear.  it was deliberate.  what she forgot was how to move safely.

she had to go "commando" (a new term that i learned from this mishap; "commando" means no underwear) to avoid the underwear lines or impressions that would show in a clinging gown.  standard pod na sa mga gown nga ingon ani nga fit and clinging cloth.  equally ngil-ad ang maklaro ang underwear lines.  pero naa baya untay underwear nga seamless.

lesson for tb women (that includes ma'am hubag and ma'am bugsay)... should you wear clinging gowns or dresses, have special underwear.  absent that, wear thick pantyhose stockings.  what may have prevented hathaway from using pantyhose was because she can't wear it with that pair of gladiator sandals, which is the highlight of her attire.

hihihi, mora na man ko anig korek nga nag-analyze ug fashion sense.

destiny or dynasty, the fact is more than one family member or clan member put themselves up for election.  they won't be elected if they won't run for certain positions.

decency in the spirit of fair play and anti-dynasty ideals is required of one to give others a chance, to not hold on to political power by nurturing it for his family or clan continuously for generations.  and this is without saying that their chances of winning is more, not because we voters want them but because others cannot run against them for lack of party backing, organization, and resources, the kind that they have built up and nurtured and protected through the years as a dynasty.

the word destiny is what is often used by political dynasty practitioners.  it is too fluid a word for use and misuse, such that what if one day criminals will say that it is through no fault of theirs because it is their destiny to commit crimes?

Pacquiao gets standing ovation in #RHvote

by Carmela Fonbuena
12/13/2012

MANILA, Philippines - Everyone knew he was going to vote against the Reproductive Health bill (RH bill). But it didn't matter. All Sarangani Rep Manuel Pacquiao had to do was take the podium and everyone forgot - even only for a few minutes - the highly charged voting on the measure that seeks to provide, among others, free contraceptives to the poor.

In a way that only Pacquiao has been able to do, the Filipino boxing champion united the supporters and critics of the RH bill. Before explaining his vote, Pacquiao took the opportunity to thank those who supported him in his last match against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, to whom he lost by a knockout.

"My countrymen, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your prayers and support during my last fight in Las Vegas," he told the plenary. Immediately, the House members and the visitors in the gallery gave him a standing ovation.

Pacquiao narrated how he was unconscious for about 2 minutes. "Some thought I was dead.... What happened in Vegas strengthened my already firm belief on the sanctity of life," he said.

"Manny Pacquiao is Pro-Life. Manny Pacquiao votes no to House Bill 4244," he added. - Rappler.com

i've made it a habit to settle for post-christmas shopping to avoid the crowds.  otherwise, late october (for those bargains) and a catch-up in early november is best.  these days, i even hate the idea of going out.

Optimistic Lagman

But RH bill sponsor Albay Rep Edcel Lagman is optimistic. He said the vote on second reading - albeit very close - is a guarantee that it will pass the House on 3rd reading.

"This was virtually a third reading. For the first time on a second reading, there was a nominal voting," said Lagman.

"I doubt very much that there will be surprises (when RH bill is put to a vote on 3rd reading). If there are surprises, it would be an augmentation of our margin of victory," Lagman said.

Under the rules of the House, a vote on second reading only requires viva voce voting or voice voting. House members only go to nominal voting (one by one) if someone questions the result of the voice vote, which was what happened Tuesday night.

The Senate also agreed to vote on the RH Bill on second reading on Monday, and if passed, on third reading on Thursday, December 20. - with reports from Angela Casauay

Anti-RH not giving up the fight

RH bill critic Cagayan De Oro Rep Rufus Rodriguez is not giving up.

"It's a very close vote in spite of everything. We have the momentum by this time. Imagine it's just 9 votes. All the arsenal of government was here," Rodriguez said.

Zambales Rep Milagros "Mitos" Magsaysay added: "Habang may buhay, may pag-asa. Dahil ganito kalapit ang boto, sa tingin ko sa third reading, pwede pang mabago ito." (Because the vote is close, I think the situation can still change during the 3rd reading.)

"Definitely there's no cause for celebration. The fight was too close. Things can go our way the next time around," Magsaysay added.

House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II

The measure, which was stuck in the chamber for 14 years, seeks to institutionalize access to reproductive health information and services such as contraceptives.

Catholic bishops were in full force Wednesday, December 12, at the gallery of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, seat of the House of Representatives, to dramatize their opposition to the bill. Prior to the vote, they held at least two masses in Metro Manila to call on members of the House to reject the measure.

Tougher battle lies ahead for RH bill?

MANILA, Philippines - House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II sees a tougher battle for the Reproductive Health bill (RH bill) on Monday, December 17, when lawmakers try to put the measure to its third and final reading.

Its approval on 2nd reading about 2 am Thursday, December 13, was a dangerously close vote -- 113-104 with 3 abstentions. Gonzales said the vote on 3rd reading will "not necessarily" follow the pattern.

"Of course [it can change]. The real vote is 3rd reading," Gonzales told reporters after the vote shortly past 2 am Thursday, December 13.

"I don't know. You have to expect even more intense lobbying [from both sides]," Gonzales added.
