Aside from Engr Salvo, i know two more Valencianhons who finished their studies in Adamson University. Mining Engr Victor J. Bantol is now the President of the Bohol Limestone Mines, in G-Hernandez, Bohol. Engr Gil D. Cago is a Chemical Engineer who is working at the Pepsi Cola Plant in Riyadh, KSA, as a Quality Control Engineer for the past fifteen years. All three are proud to be Valencianhons, i know.

I heard of Engr. Victor Bantol when I was in Garcia Hernandez to visit the limestone quary. I did not know he's Valencianon. :)

Nice to know this.

Dear Blog,

Hi, and Hello. The time right now is 12:12 AM. I finally have some free time after being sent around 2nd, then to 3rd floor on patient rounds. The beautiful part of doing our rounds here at night is that it usually levels down by midnight, patients stabilized. Earlier today I had my first code blue in the E.R; patient came in with observable kussmal breathing, and was unconscious at first. At first I thought it was due to diabetic ketoacidosis, however, we were told to leave the room even before we could find the diagnosis. There were 4 of us medical interns there and the resident and attending wanted us out because of the procedure at hand.

Then after going back upstairs, i was able to discharge one schizoaffective patient who attempted drug overdose. This is insane how some of these psych patients are really 'over the top' , for lack of a better word. Then later i was the admitting intern for a 50 y/o AAM whose chief complaint was Hep. C-induced cirrhosis, and CHF (congestive heart failure). I took a total HPI on the patient as well as performed the preliminary physical before presenting it to the attending physician later on.

I also was able to meet a Filipina Nurse (an ilongga) here in the IM Ward. lol. She has begun to call me "Toto" :P

I love Filipinos in the floor, it makes the on-call hours more bearable.

Okay , thats it for now. Now another 8 more hours until I get to go home and SLEEP!!!

Love,
Lorenzo.

I'm in the hospital right now at the physician's desk. Just did my rounds with another intern after finding a working (1 out of 3 is working in the whole floor) pulse oximeter.
Its a long night, im on call right now at 2EAST. Internal Medicine-Family Medicine Ward. I want to go home and sleep soon. I've been here since 9 AM. Had rounds from 9am - 2 pm, then a lunch break at 2-3. Then from 3-5 had more rounds at the MOB floor. Had 5 patients there. Now im here in 2 EAST from 8pm till 8 am tomorrow.

IM TIRED. 16 HOUR SHIFT. SUCKS BALLS!

I remember in my youth, my Lola Nating would take me with her to visit Dr. Plinio Lim's house. His mother was really good friends with my Lola and they used to talk to each other in Chinese. hahaha. I would sit in the chair listening to them talk and would pick out the bisaya words and then out of a sudden they would revert to Chinese. My Lola, who was very fluent in Cantonese, would mix chinese with binisayang bolanon hahaha. Tagaan pood mi ug candy and before leaving, I remember the Amen to our hostess. Kalingaw to sila mag rat-tat-tat sa una. Especially my Lola who would always call her over to our house in Valencia.

hehe, naka hinumdum pood ko da.  :)

I heard this song in a taxi after visiting the Basilica Minor de Santo Nino de Cebu this summer.
I was trembling when I was in the line to see Senor Santo Nino.
To be able to visit and complete my pilgrimate to see The Beautiful Child Jesus was a life changing experience.

Fr. Roel, you were the one that blessed the Icon of Senor Santo Nino that night i met with you and the Puppies.
I had arrived back from Cebu earlier that day. :)

It is just amazing how everything played accordingly to plan and coincidentally went smoothly (I really don't think it was mere coincidence...hehe).

Think of it, I visited the Shrine for Senor Santo Nino, brought back the Icon of Senor Santo Nino. I was then told by the caretaker in the Basilica to make sure to have the Icon blessed by a priest. And later that night, we met up by coincidence. And my Uncle Roger told me to bring the Icon of Senor Santo Nino. Ingon ko nija, "why do i have to bring Senor Santo Nino for?" Then he said, "Fr. Roel can offer the blessings, doy."

Everything went smoothly, Fr. Thank you.

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials,
R. Santo Nino, help us.
In the failure of our plans and hopes.

It was confirmed by the taste buds of Boholanos that bananas from Jagna and nearby towns are the sweetest in all province of Bohol. It also includes lanzones and recently Jagna won the biggest Ube competition in Ubay.

Unsay hinungdan ani? Camiguin island! Ngano man? Gumikan kay kada boto sa maong bulkang hibokhibok which is experienced thru out the centuries, naay ashfall nga mo-abut sa Jagna. Infact my late mother witnessed it during her time. Kining ashfall gikan sa Camiguin nag-abono kini sa Jagma soil and the nearby town facing Camiguin island.

I also anticipated that not in a distant future Jagna port being a part of the neutical haighway would close the link of Mindanao sea between Jagna and Camiguin, that tourists would criscross these southern sea to enjoy the beauty of the nature between the two islands!

Bai Buwad, Jagna's port is very well developed! I drove there one time and went to inspect the port, its impressive the kinds of boats that the port handles, it ranges from regular personnel carrier to large barges capable of taking trucks, buses, and cars as well as passenger personnel to intended destinations.

Great Job, Jagna!

When I last visited the Santo Nino Parish Church in Valencia this summer, I was able to talk to the parish grounds caretakers as well as the ladies in the rectories , all of whom gave me a tour of the church. The church's interior dome was renovated thanks in part to the generous donations of VALENCIANONS (in the town as well as abroad). The beautiful flooring of the church, as i was told, is original and was nailed by using wooden nails, which Fr. Cornago himself helped install during the creation of the church. The grounds of the church is so beautiful, and I was able to see the original Santo Nino . Guapo kaajo.

They have cleaned the grounds, and are on the way of replacing the old chairs and benches in the church, all of which are thanks due to the donations of Valencianons.

Let us keep our beautiful Church up to date, and clean, mga higala.

SANTO NIÃ'O PARISH (Valencia, 6306 Bohol)

The Santo Niño was officially installed as Patron of Valencia, Bohol, by virtue of a letter numbered 877 of the Ministry of Overseas Territories in Madrid, Spain, dated September 3, 1870. The establishment of the Parish of Valencia came a year after Panangatan, Canmanico and Cutcutan, all eastern barrios of the old town of Dimiao were constituted into a separate and independent town named Valencia on October 27, 1869.

Father Mariano Cornago was the first Parish Priest of Valencia. He started the building of the Poblacion and the construction of the church. He was succeeded in January 1878 by Fr. Francisco Arcaya who completed the construction of the church on September 7, 1882. He also completed the convent started by his predecessor and built the cemetery surrounded by a wall of stone tablets we call “cotta”.

Sto. Niño Parish is located at the Southeast of the Province of Bohol, 42 kilometers from the Cathedral of Saint Joseph the Worker of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. It is rectangular in shape. Its land area is 10,886.50 hectares, with rolling steep hills in the north fed by the Panangatan River. The valley happens to be the breadbasket of the town producing rice as its staple food. The coastal areas are all level lands for residential and commercial purpose. The parish of Valencia composed of 35 barangays with 72 chapels. The major crops in the parish are rice, corn, coconut, peanut, camote, and other root crops and vegetables. Our coastal water is one of the fishing ground of the province. Other source of livelihood in the parish are ceramics, furniture making, wood carving, loom-weaving, basketry and hog raising. Our parish is also rich of tourism potentials like Badiang Spring in Anas, Interior of the Santo Niño church, Anislag Spring in Omjon, Empehan Cascading Falls in Ticum and Panangatan Valley.

Valencia has also rich historical and cultural heritage. Records tell us that the Treaty of Peace between Col. Pedro Samson and the Boholano soldier was signed at the Santo Niño convent. The sitio Lawis of barangay Banderahan has become the bastion of the last three wars, the wars against Spaniards, the Americans and the Japanese forces.

With present leadership, Valencia is determined to heed with progress. The town joins the movement of its development, pouring with financial assistance for its infrastructural developments the image of the town has changed a lot booming into modernization.

I attended a large Pentecostal Church (i was invited by a friend, so i attended) one time. They rented a stadium to seat the members; there were also about 5,000-10,000 that attended worship. To enter the stadium, I had to pay $5.00. So each weekend, that church raked up about $25,000- $50,000 based on entrance fees (not including tithes).

#26261
Quote from: www.tubagbohol.com on September 29, 2010, 05:51:23 AM
This is the answer given by a friend.

Without new births, it means no income for the Catholic Church.

Calculation: 2,000,000 babies a year multiplied by P500 pesos for baptismal fee = 1,000 Million Pesos
If there are other fees, it means more hundreds of millions of pesos.

Therefore, zero birth = zero income for the Catholic Church. Sounds logical, isn't it?

Agree or disagree?

There are hundreds of parishes in the Philippines, and the cost of running these parishes, sacramental rites, distribution of food and aid, is all contributed by members of the church. This is same for any and all churches: Aglipaya, Iglesia Ni Christo, etc etc.

In the United States, the large evangelical churches that are common in the South (which can seat up to 20,000 - 30,000) members all pay a fee to enter, then also tithe. The capital here is used to maintain the Congregation in order to spread the Word of God.

The same applies to the Catholic Parishes in the Philippines.

Dr. Rizal's father was of Chinese ancestry. Gambling and betting is very strongly linked to Chinese culture. My great-grandfather, who was from Guangzhou, China, used to gamble for fun on weekends and won money that way. It was part of the business practice of the time. By gambling, you make friends, and network. You build your base that way.

Rizal, who also had Chinese ancestry, was linked to his father's Chinese upbringing.

Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love's pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Blog,

I just read the weather forecast, looks grim. We're supposed to be hit by a massive snow storm this weekend and this week. Santa Maria Madre de Dios!

I do hope that the city sweepers will be out and about to clear the driveways today and tomorrow.
