i will repeat myself here, i.e., from another tb thread (title: woman dies of vaginal lock).

sakto na, ayaw na mo pangatawa diha... :P

Vaginal lock or Penis Captivus

Vaginal lock is an unconfirmed (even mythical) condition in which a woman's vaginal muscles clamp around the penis during intercourse, so firmly, it causes the male to be 'locked' inside her.

This condition has never been medically confirmed and there are no recorded cases on record.

First of all- the vaginal opening and walls of the vagina are lubricated, allowing for smooth, easy passage.

Second- The muscles of the vagina are not that strong, we are talking about a few muscles on the walls lining delicate tissue, Not Arnold Schwarzenegger on steroids.

Third- although cases have been reported where a woman's muscles tighten and prevent the male from penetrating (Vaginismus is an involuntary spasm of the muscles surrounding the vaginal wall) no cases have been reported of the muscles spasming while the man is inside her, and additionally 'locking him in.'

maglisod lagi ko ani ug tuo... makasabot ko nga no names, pero sobra na man pod ni nga news item; it veers on the fictional.  no named source, no name of hospital, no doctor being quoted, no police investigator, no specifics of a police blotter, etc.  this is not news.  this is only a story told many times over, and there was never any proof.

who is this lozano who filed the charges?  he has no first name in the news item.  must be the marcos loyalist lawyer oliver lozano...

a bit on him:

Lozano was the first senatorial candidate to file his certificate of candidacy, under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, the ruling party during the Marcos regime. Lozano was later joined by radio announcer and KBL candidate Melchor Chavez. Both Lozano and Chavez lost in previous senatorial derbies. In the Philippine general election, 2004 and Philippine general election, 2007, (Independent) Lozano landed on the 36th and 32nd place, with measly 238,272 and 305,637 votes, respectively. while human rights watch may issue statements within its parameters, it isn't fair for it to call our laws archaic.  did it ever complain that punishment by death in the u.s. is archaic?

there's nothing archaic about dramatically interrupting a religious service.  one might as well say that laws on libel and defamation are archaic in keeping with freedom of expression.

there are other less insulting ways to express one's own stand.  celdran deserves jail time for his exhibitionistic 15 minutes of fame.

German Doppelgänger, from doppel- double + -gänger goer

re the position of arius, which he presented at the council... here's a funny tidbit.

one of the participants at that council was a bishop from myra, nicholas, who throughout the centuries has been traditionally regarded as the basis for santa claus.  (he was regarded as a saint long before canonization by the pope was formalized.)

At the the Council of Nicaea, Arius presented his case before all the attendees.  At some point, Nicholas could no longer tolerate the blasphemies Arius was saying against God, so he got up, walked up to him, and  punched Arius in the face, knocking him to the floor. Nicholas' fellow bishops were outraged that he lost control and hit Arius. The canons of the church forbid clergy from striking any human being, so he was brought before Constantine, who stripped him of his vestments and had him thrown into prison for what would have been the length of the council. Ashamed of his actions, Nicholas prayed to God and asked for forgiveness in the dark of his prison cell. (http://ourorthodoxlife.blogspot.com/)

Warning indicators:

#They will imply that anyone signing up will become rich within months to a year.

#They will tell potential victims that the route to success is by following “secret formulas” that no one else knows about.

#They will often claim they have been seen on various websites such as Google and YouTube, causing the viewer to assume said websites endorse the product.

#They will use pressuring tactics to get you to sign up quickly, such as claiming that there are only a certain amount of copies of a CD left, or using special discount prices that are only available for a short amount of time.

#Schemes such as this will often employ the tactic of displaying testimonials from “previous users.”

#When trying to navigate away from their website, users are often presented with popup windows offering further discounts, in an attempt to make the user feel special.

Online get-rich-quick schemes

Get-rich-quick schemes that operate completely on the Internet typically promote “secret formulas” to affiliate marketing and affiliate advertising.

The scheme will usually claim that it requires no special IT or marketing skills and will provide an unrealistic time frame in which the consumer could make hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.

Schemes of this nature usually have catchy titles and images associated with wealth and luxury to encourage potential victims into paying signing up fees which can range from several dollars to thousands of dollars. The get-rich-quick scheme will heavily imply that the consumer will be able to earn much more than this small investment when they apply the special, secret techniques revealed in their training material they will send. Such training material is typically in the form of e-books or training CDs.

Get-rich-quick scheme

A get-rich-quick scheme is a plan to acquire high rates of return for a small investment. The term "get rich quick" has been used to describe shady investments since at least the early 1900s.

Most schemes promise that participants can obtain this high rate of return with little risk, and with little skill, effort, or time. Get rich quick schemes often assert that wealth can be obtained by working at home. Legal and quasi-legal get-rich-quick schemes are frequently advertised on infomercials and in magazines and newspapers. Illegal schemes or scams are often advertised through spam or cold calling. Some forms of advertising for these schemes market books or compact discs about getting rich quick rather than asking participants to invest directly in a concrete scheme.

a million thanks. these two songs were the first english religious songs i learned before my first communion.  you bet i have mangled some words, but my memory of the tune is as perfect as a child's smooth voice.

i feel it's been ages since these songs were sung, at least in the philippine setting, except when one attends wednesday's mother of perpetual help novena in baclaran in manila or at the redemptorist church in cebu city.  these songs seemed more common when i was an early grader.

(the mass i attended last sunday had unfamiliar tagalog songs.  i believe i spent three quarters of the mass sleeping.)

The highly leveraged use of margins theoretically gave the speculators equally large upside potential. However, if a bucket shop held a large position on a stock, it might sell the stock on the real stock exchange, causing the price on the ticker tape to momentarily move down enough to wipe out its client's margins, and the bucket shop could take 100% of their investments.

They were made illegal after they were cited as a major contributor to the two stock market crashes in the early 1900s.

House stock scam

The term bucket shop is now applied to any fraudulent stock-selling operation such as a boiler room, which has an undisclosed relationship with the company being promoted or undisclosed profit from the sale of house stock being promoted. A bucket shop promotes (via telephone or email) thinly traded or even fraudulent investments.

Bucket shop (stock market)

As defined by the U.S. Supreme Court a Bucket shop is "[a]n establishment, nominally for the transaction of a stock exchange business, or business of similar character, but really for the registration of bets, or wagers, usually for small amounts, on the rise or fall of the prices of stocks, grain, oil, etc., there being no transfer or delivery of the stock or commodities nominally dealt in."

The terms of trade were different for each bucket shop, but bucket shops typically catered to customers who traded on thin margins, even as low as 1%. Most bucket shops refused to make margin calls, so that if the stock price fell even momentarily to the limit of the client's margin, the client would lose his entire investment.

Differences between a Pyramid scheme and a Ponzi scheme:

In a Ponzi scheme, the schemer acts as a "hub" for the victims, interacting with all of them directly. In a pyramid scheme, those who recruit additional participants benefit directly. (In fact, failure to recruit typically means no investment return.)

A Ponzi scheme claims to rely on some esoteric investment approach and often attracts well-to-do investors; whereas pyramid schemes explicitly claim that new money will be the source of payout for the initial investments.

A pyramid scheme typically collapses much faster because it requires exponential increases in participants to sustain it. By contrast, Ponzi schemes can survive simply by persuading most existing participants to reinvest their money, with a relatively small number of new participants.

The Pyramid Scheme

A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves promising participants payment or services, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public.

These types of schemes have existed for at least a century, some with variations to hide their true nature, and because of this, many people believe that all multilevel marketing plans are also pyramid schemes.

Unraveling of a Ponzi scheme

When a Ponzi scheme is not stopped by the authorities, it sooner or later falls apart for one of the following reasons:

The promoter vanishes, taking all the remaining investment money (minus payouts to investors already made).

Since the scheme requires a continual stream of investments to fund higher returns, once investment slows down, the scheme collapses as the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns (the higher the returns, the greater the risk of the Ponzi scheme collapsing). Such liquidity crises often trigger panics, as more people start asking for their money, similar to a bank run.

External market forces, such as a sharp decline in the economy (for example, the Madoff investment scandal during the market downturn of 2008), cause many investors to withdraw part or all of their funds. (wikipedia)

financial schemes worth watching out for, and avoiding:

The Ponzi Scheme

A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation.

The system is destined to collapse because the earnings, if any, are less than the payments to investors.

In Bali in 1976, at the first Asean Summit held after the fall of Saigon, I found Marcos keen to push for greater economic cooperation in Asean. We agreed to implement a bilateral Philippine-Singapore across-the-board ten percent reduction of existing tariffs on all products and to promote intra-Asean trade. We also agreed to lay a Philippines-Singapore submarine cable. I was to discover that for him, the communiqué was the accomplishment itself; its implementation was secondary, an extra to be discussed at another conference.

obviously this particular story as narrated didn't happen; it's apocryphal and meant only to entertain.

i like the piece.  the writer uses a number of literary devices, from allusion to satire to roman à clef, to put his point across-- that something funny is going on at the senate nowadays.

In a touching show of solidarity, Enrile’s supporters stood up and to a man gave him a vote of confidence on the issue.

But they all began slouching down in silence when Enrile repeated the statement he gave in a TV interview with Winnie Monsodâ€"that he was too old “from the waist down” to have a mistress and was willing to be tested for erectile dysfunction to prove it.

Murmuring to one another, Enrile’s supporters backed off, hinting that they would not be able to join him on this one.

Finally, Enrile vowed not to deal with assaults on his person anymore: “Let it stay on the record and let the Divine Spirit determine whose truth is correct, where lies the truth.”

As usual, the Divine Spirit refused to comment.

Cayetano, in his privilege speech, had also accused Enrile of giving his chief of staff Jessica Gigi Reyes so much power that she acts as if she’s a senator herself. The accusation revived old rumors that Reyes was Enrile’s mistress.

Livid, Enrile, vehemently denied having a mistress. “And I am not pirating this line of defense from any of my male senate peers, because an elected official’s denial of having a mistress or mistresses is already in the public domain,” he magisterially argued.

In a touching show of solidarity, Enrile’s supporters stood up and to a man gave him a vote of confidence on the issue.

Whereupon Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, who had fallen ill after tangling with Enrile over the same “Christmas gift” issue, unexpectedly staggered into the Senate chamber and woozily accused him of pirating her high blood pressure. “That act is mine! Do I have to copyright it?”

Whereupon Enrile accused Santiago of lack of originality herself when she returned the $250,000 Christmas gift check he had given her. “It was I who first returned your Christmas gift of biscuits because of your advocacy for the RH billâ€"gaya-gaya ka lang, hija,” Enrile exploded.

“Touche,” Santiago conceded, “but talk about lack of originalityâ€"you faked your own ambush to give an excuse for martial law, then just the other day you faked vacating the Senate presidency so you could get a vote of confidence from our peers. My dear senator of a certain age, you are just repeating yourself!” she yelled before being taken away on a stretcher.

Critics accused Enrile of improperly appropriating the patently low blow that former Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona used during his impeachment trial, when he cast aspersions on his deceased father-in-law’s character for no apparent reason material to his defense.

“I beg your pardon!” Enrile bristled. “My irrelevant below the belt retort is my own original idea. Do I have to copyright that?” Enrile then complained that Cayetano made his blood pressure shoot up.

One of Enrile’s supporters, Sen. Tito Sotto, quickly came to his defense. “I beg your pardon!” Sotto bristled, too. “The Senate president’s irrelevant below the belt retort is his own original idea. Does he have to copyright it?”

Senate brawl worsens; Enrile accused of piracy

By Rene Ciria-Cruz
Saturday, January 26th, 2013

Furiously fending off accusations of doling out public funds to Senate colleagues as if the money were his to give as “Christmas gifts,” Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile now also stands accused of pirating intellectual property.

The latest charge has nothing to do with his best-selling autobiography. Critics instead claim that he pirated another well-known figure’s tactic while defending himself against Senate leader Alan Peter Cayetano’s charges of favoritism and vindictiveness.

The charge of piracy came after Enrile from out of the blue said Cayetano’s late father, who was his former law firm partner, still owed him P37 million, which he had to put up so that the elder Cayetano could feed his family.

Astronomers initially assumed the diamond planet’s chemical composition was similar to Earth’s and that 55 Cancri e contained a substantial quantity of super-heated water.  However, according to Yale University researcher Nikku Madhusudhan, the new research suggests the planet has no water at all and is primarily made up of carbon â€" such as graphite and diamond â€" as well as iron, silicon carbide, and, possibly, some silicates.

The identification of a carbon-rich super-Earth means scientists can no longer assume that all distant rocky planets have chemical elements, interiors, atmospheres or biologies similar to Earth, according to Madhusudhan.

Which means there could be other gemstone planets out there just waiting to be discovered.

The gemstone planet, called ’55 Cancri e’, has a radius twice that of Earth’s and a mass that’s eight times greater, making it a “super-Earth.”  The planet is one of five found orbiting ’55 Cancri’, a sun-like star about 40 light years from Earth.  Located in the constellation of Cancer, scientists say the star can be seen with the naked eye.

Astronomers first spotted the planet last year as it was transiting its star, which allowed them to measure its radius for the first time.  Using that information, along with their most recent estimate of its mass, researchers used computer modeling to speculate on the chemical composition of the planet.

Previous research revealed that the host star, 55 Cancri, has more carbon than it does oxygen, leading the US-French team to confirm that significant amounts of carbon and silicon carbide, with only a small amount of water ice, were available during the planet’s formation.

Scientists Discover Planet Covered in Diamonds

Scientists have found a planet outside of our solar system which could be a true diamond in the rough.

This gem of a planet is twice Earth’s size, according to the US-Franco team that found it, and its surface appears to be covered in graphite and diamond.

Researchers estimate that at least one-third of the new planet’s mass could be diamond.
