Damage Caused by Rockets Fired from Gaza into Ashkelon, Israel

On Saturday, November 18, 2012, Palestinian terrorists from the Gaza Strip fired rockets at the Israeli city of Ashkelon. This video shows the damage caused to the area surrounding the strike. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

In response to the rocket attacks from Gaza, the IDF has launched a widespread campaign against terror targets in the Strip. The operation, called Pillar of Defense, has two main goals: to protect Israeli civilians and to cripple the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza.

One of the main ways that Hamas acquires weapons is via an extensive network of tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border. Since Hamas seized power in the Gaza Strip in 2007, the terrorist group's smuggling efforts have increased. With funding from Iran, Hamas has improved its stockpile of weapons.

Terrorists Firing Rockets from Civilian Areas in Gaza

Terrorists Firing Rockets from Civilian Areas in Gaza

Terrorists from the Al-Quds Brigades, a radical Jihadist group operating from the Gaza Strip, are firing rockets at Israel from within urban living areas in Gaza. The video, uploaded only yesterday to the official Al-Quds channel, asserts the repeated and unapologetic use of the "human shield" tactics by terror organizations operating from Gaza.

By operating from densely populated areas, these terrorists willingly endanger the innocent civilians living around them. As seen in the video -- regular living areas, like a park surrounded by apartments, all become terror sites. Imagine raising your children in a neighborhood where terrorists shoot rockets from the local playground.

Hamas Terrorists Firing Rockets on Israel from Houses in Gaza

Hamas Terrorists Firing Rockets on Israel from Houses in Gaza

The terror group Hamas benefits from using its own people as human shields. When the IDF refrains from firing into densely populated areas, such as neighborhoods or suburbs, the terror organization becomes less vulnerable by default. Most of Hamas' military infrastructure is purposely placed in the middle of Gaza City and scattered throughout crowded refugee camps, further putting civilians in the direct line of fire.

In this video, uploaded online by Hamas only two days ago, you can see rockets being fired from urban living areas in the Gaza Strip. These are the same areas Hamas operatives convert to terror sites and weapon caches.

F-15 Eagle vs MiG-29 Fulcrum ? Destined Rivals

F-15 Eagle vs MiG-29 Fulcrum ★ Destined Rivals

There is probably no better adversary to F-15 than a MiG-29. Both aircrafts were designed and built during the Cold War and both have similarities. F-15's impressive record of 104 kills to 0 losses in air combat is unmatched by any aircraft in modern history, Meanwhile, MiG-29s have been shot down several times including many Iraqi MiGs being downed by Coalition F-15s during the 1991Operation Desert Storm.

So is the F-15 the ultimate killer of its time or was the MiG-29 not given a fair chance?
You Decide!!!!!

Modern Marvels ? Strategic Air Command

Modern Marvels ★ Strategic Air Command

With the ironic motto, Peace is our Profession, the Strategic Air Command was in charge of U.S. nuclear forces from 1946 to 1992. SAC was the ultimate Cold War military machine, at its height controlling thousands of nuclear weapons, planes, and missiles, and boasting over a quarter million personnel. We travel to the Strategic Air and Space Museum, located 20 miles from SAC's old headquarters in Nebraska, and walk through the cavernous bomb bay of SAC's workhorse, the B-52 Bomber.

Modern Marvels ? Deadliest Weapons

Modern Marvels ★ Deadliest Weapons

Profile five of the world's deadliest weapons, focusing on the inventors, battles, and dark technology behind their lethality. Beginning with the deadliest bomb ever created, the Tsar Bomba--a 50-megaton nuclear bomb--we move on to the deadliest weapons ever used on people, the atomic bombs exploded over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. During WWI, the machine gun led to the deaths of over 8-million, and in WWII, the use of incendiary bombs killed hundreds of thousands of people. Another deadly invention of WWII was the proximity fuse, or VT fuse, that allowed artillery to detonate within a predetermined range of an enemy target. Finally, we examine VX nerve gas--a deadly chemical agent used twice by Saddam Hussein with devastating results--and visit Edgewood Chemical BioCenter, where suspicious items in the current war in Iraq are examined for traces of VX

F-22A Timeline ? From Concept To Dominance [HD]

F-22A Timeline ★ From Concept To Dominance [HD]

The final delivery completes the Air Force's fleet of 195 F-22s. The Raptor is a key component of the Global Strike Task Force and is unmatched by any fighter aircraft due to its speed, stealth and maneuverability, according to Air Force officials.

During his remarks at the ceremony, Schwartz said the delivery represents an important element in the Air Force's overall modernization effort.

"Thank you to all of the partners in industry and government that made this occasion a reality," the general said. "I especially want to pay tribute to the line workers and engineers whose technical expertise, attention to detail and commitment to our nation's defense transformed an innovative notion into America's first 5th generation fighter aircraft."

When it was time to unveil the final F-22, the hangar doors rose and cheers from the assembled guests and workers erupted.

Robert Stevens, Lockheed Martin chairman and chief executive officer, said the very existence of the F-22 has altered the strategic landscape forever.

"It is also fair to say that, along the way, the F-22 has had a fair number of challenges and a fair number of critics," Stevens said. "But let's not fail to take note today of the number of nations, who rank among either competitors or adversaries, who are frantically trying to replicate what you have done."

The final F-22, tail number 4195, will be flown to its new unit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage, Alaska.

Russian Military Might ? The Bear Returns

Russian Military Might ★ The Bear Returns

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are the military services of Russia, established after the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992 Boris Yeltsin signed a decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the RSFSR under Russian Federation control. The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces is the President of the Russian Federation. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'.

The number of troops is permitted by decree of the President of Russia. On January 1, 2008, a quota of 2,019,629 units, including the military 1,134,800 units, was set.

In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian armed forces numbered about 1,027,000 active troops and in the region of 20,000,000 reserves, (largely ex-conscripts) but a significant military reform is underway which will cut the number of active troops. According to SIPRI, Russia's annual defense spending stands at about $52.7 billion in FY2011

Secrets Of The Secret Service [HD]

Secrets Of The Secret Service [HD]

Secrets Of The Secret Service is an exhaustive investigation into America's most mysterious law enforcement agency, detailing the weapons and tactics they use to protect the President of the United States.

Many of the service's current methods and technology have been introduced as a result of tragedy. The assassination of President John F Kennedy laid bare a catalogue of errors which left him vulnerable.

One of the major innovations to arise from that fateful day in Dallas was the redesign of the presidential limousine -- which is more like a tank than a car, sporting bullet-proof windows, tear gas cannons and significant armour plating.

One of the things to come from it was a change in the weaponry used. Agents now carry FNP90 submachine guns, with body armour piercing rounds. These allow an assailant to be taken out with pinpoint accuracy, without danger to the inevitable large crowds surrounding the President.

Including interviews with ex-agents and a former White House press secretary, Secrets Of The Secret Service examines everything from the service's training techniques to the protocols used when the President is aboard Air Force 1.

Did you know...?
-As well as protecting the President of the United States, the Secret Service also investigate the counterfeiting of US currency.

-The lapel badges that agents wear whilst protecting the President must be changed every hour to a different design for security.

-The Secret Service was created by President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865.

SR-71 Blackbird (HABU) ? Mach 3 Eyes In the Sky [HD]

SR-71 Blackbird (HABU) ☆ Mach 3 Eyes In the Sky [HD]

SR-71 Specifications and Performance
Two Pratt and Whitney J58 axial-flow turbojets with afterburners, each producing 32,500 pounds of thrust, powered the Blackbirds. Less than 20 percent of the total thrust used to fly at Mach 3 was produced by the engine itself, however. During high-speed cruise conditions the balance of total thrust was produced by the unique design of the engine inlet and a moveable conical spike at the front of each engine nacelle. Under these conditions, air entering the inlets bypassed the engines, going directly to the afterburners and ejector nozzles, thus acting as ramjets.

The airframes were built almost entirely of titanium and other exotic alloys to withstand heat generated by sustained high-speed flight. Capable of cruising at Mach 3 continuously for more than one hour at a time, the Blackbirds provided a unique research platform for thermal experiments because heat-soak temperatures exceeded 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

The aircraft was 107.4 feet (32.73 meters) long, had a wingspan of 55.6 feet (16.94 meters), and stood 18.5 feet (5.63 meters) high (from the ground to the top of the rudders when parked). Gross takeoff weight was about 140,000 pounds (52,253.83 kilograms), including a fuel weight of 80,000 pounds (29,859.33 kilograms). Aerodynamic control surfaces consisted of all-moving vertical tail fins above each engine nacelle and elevons on the outer wings and trailing edges between the engine exhaust nozzles.

NASA crews flew four Lockheed SR-71 airplanes during the 1990s. Two were used for research and two to support Air Force reactivation of the SR-71 for reconnaissance missions. Although the Air Force retired the Blackbirds in 1990, Congress reinstated funding for additional flights several years later. SR-71A (61-7980/NASA 844) arrived at Dryden on Feb. 15, 1990. It was placed into storage until 1992 and served as a research platform until its final flight on Oct. 9, 1999. SR-71A (61-7971/NASA 832) arrived at Dryden on March 19, 1990, but was returned to Air Force inventory as the first aircraft was reactivated in 1995. Along with SR-71A (61-7967), it was flown by NASA crews in support of the Air Force program. SR-71B (61-7956/NASA 831) arrived at Dryden on July 25, 1991, and served as a research platform as well as for crew training and proficiency until October 1997.

Strategic Air Command ? Cold War Warriors

Strategic Air Command ☆ Cold War Warriors

The Strategic Air Command (SAC) was both a Major Command (MAJCOM) of the United States Air Force and a "specified command" of the United States Department of Defense. SAC was the operational establishment in charge of America's land-based strategic bomber aircraft and land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strategic nuclear arsenal from 1946 to 1992. SAC also controlled the infrastructure necessary to support the strategic bomber and ICBM operations, such as aerial refueling tanker aircraft to refuel the bombers in flight, strategic reconnaissance aircraft, command post aircraft, and, until 1957, fighter escorts.

Following the fall of the Soviet Union, the Air Force instituted a comprehensive reorganization of its major commands. As part of this reorganization, SAC was disestablished on 1 June 1992. As part of the reorganization, SAC's bomber aircraft, ICBMs, strategic reconnaissance aircraft, and command post aircraft were merged with USAF fighter and other tactical aircraft assets and reassigned to the newly-established Air Combat Command (ACC). This included B-52 and B-1 bomber aircraft assigned to the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, respectively.

At the same time, most of SAC's aerial refueling tanker aircraft, including those in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, were reassigned to the new Air Mobility Command (AMC). Tankers based in Europe were reassigned to United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), while regular air force tankers in the Pacific, as well as Alaska Air National Guard tankers, were reassigned to Pacific Air Forces (PACAF)

Inside The Cockpit Part IX- F-5E Tiger II

The F-5E Tiger II was a greatly improved version of the earlier F-5A Freedom Fighter. Redesigned as a highly maneuverable, lightweight and inexpensive air superiority fighter, the E model featured an air-to-air fire control radar system and a lead computing gunsight. More powerful J85 engines required the fuselage to be both widened and lengthened. The forward wing root was redesigned to give the "Tiger II" wing its characteristic triple delta shape.

The first flight of the F-5E was on Aug. 11, 1972. The first USAF unit to receive the aircraft was the 425th TFS at Williams Air Force Base, Ariz., responsible for training foreign pilots in the F-5 aircraft. The most well-known use of the "Tiger II" was as an aggressor aircraft at the USAF Fighter Weapons School, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The aggressor pilots of the 64th Fighter Weapons Squadron were trained in Soviet tactics and used the Es to similate MiG-21s for training USAF pilots in aerial combat skills. Eventually, aggressor squadrons were formed at RAF Alconbury, U.K., and Clark AB, PI, for training USAF pilots stationed overseas along with pilots of friendly foreign nations.

? F-22A Raptor ? 21st Century Air Dominance ?

✯ F-22A Raptor ✯ 21st Century Air Dominance ✯

The F-22 Raptor is an air dominance fighter with much higher capability than current U.S. Air Force aircraft. Compared with the F-15 it is designed to replace, the aircraft has higher speed and longer range, greater agility, enhanced offensive and defensive avionics, and reduced observability. Furthermore, both the air vehicle and the engine designs emphasize reliability and maintainability of systems, and are the result of a team approach called Integrated Product Development.

The F-22 can carry medium and short-range air-to-air missiles in internal bays, and has an in internal 20-mm cannon and provisions for carrying precision ground attack weapons. Pilots will have a "first-look, first-shot, first-kill" capability because of the Raptor's stealth properties and advanced sensors. In addition, the avionics suite is a highly integrated system that will allow the pilot to concentrate on the mission, rather than on managing the sensors as in current fighters.

Much of the increased capability is based on the materials in the engine, the structure, and the skin. Efficient processing methods also contribute to higher reliability, lower costs, and simplified maintenance. This article describes some of those materials and processes.

Raptor materials
Traditional aircraft materials such as aluminum and steel make up about 20% of the F-22 structure by weight. Its high-performance capabilities require significant amounts of titanium (42% of all structural materials by weight) and composite materials (24% by weight). These are stronger and lighter than traditional materials, and offer better protection against corrosion. Titanium also offers tolerance to higher temperatures. In fact, titanium accounts for a larger percentage of the structural weight on the F-22 than any other current U.S. fighter.

F-22A Raptor ? Air Dominance

F-22A Raptor ✯ Air Dominance

By any measure, the development of the F-22A was revolutionary - in the technology employed and from a stealth design point standpoint - and this produced a combat aircraft that has no equal.

Being able to carry weapons internally was essential to its stealth capability, and efficient supercruise. Given the role away from dedicated air superiority, rather than incur the costs of resizing the compact main internal bays of the F-22A, sized initially around four early AIM-120A AMRAAMs, the US Air Force embarked on the 'Small Smart Bomb' program centred on the idea of carrying a payload of multiple 250 lb class bombs. Today's 385 lb GBU-39/B and GBU-40/B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) were sized around the F-22A weapon bay. For the intended role of busting an opponent's airfields, mobile missile batteries, and command posts, the mix of either two GBU-32 1,000 lb JDAMs or eight GBU-39/40 SDBs is an excellent fit. With all-aspect stealth and penetrating supersonic at 50,000 ft AGL, the F-22A remains virtually unstoppable by surface-to-air missiles or fighters. It is likely that operational F-22As will be used far more frequently to break down an opponent's air defences than in the classical air superiority role, despite the aircraft retaining the full air superiority capabilities envisaged for the ATF.

Refined supersonic aerodynamics allowed the F-22A to exceed Mach 1.5 in military thrust at altitude - the exact top speed in dry thrust has never been disclosed. In early trials, F-15 chase aircraft could not keep up, and test pilots soon reported instances where even modest heading changes by F-22A prototypes in head-to-head engagement geometries caused opposing teen series fighters to abort engagements entirely - an experience historically seen only in engagements against Foxbats and Foxhounds.

In the simplest of terms, the supercruising F-22A kinematically defeated all opposing fighters, and even without stealth would kinematically defeat most existing surface-to-air missile types. The only design with the potential to kinematically challenge today's F-22A are advanced derivatives of the Su-30 fitted with supercruising AL-41F fans, the Russian equivalent to the F119-PW-100 engine in the F-22A, and an LRIP production item since 2004.

The unchallenged aerodynamic performance of the F-22A design required considerable design innovation, and extensive use of new materials techniques. At nearly 40 per cent of total empty weight, the F-22A had the highest fraction of Titanium alloy in any US design since the SR-71A, which compares closely to the Russian Sukhois. Resin Transfer Molded (RTM) thermoset composites, specifically epoxy and high temperature bismaleimide (BMI) composites, made up 24 per cent of total empty weight. New processes, such as Hot Isostatic Pressed (HIP) casting and vacuum chamber electron beam welding were introduced to allow complex high strength shapes to be fabricated from Titanium alloys, primarily Ti-64 and Ti-62222, minimising the number of fasteners used. Only 16 per cent of the F-22A's empty weight comprised Aluminium alloys. Like the B-2A, geometrical accuracy is critical to stealth performance, and the F-22A required similar production tolerancing.

The F119-PW-100 supercruising thrust-vectoring engine proved no less challenging. The 'short and fat' F119 engine was built with integrally bladed rotors, using high strength long chord fan and compressor blades, floatwall combustors exploiting high Cobalt content alloys. Heat resistant Titanium Alloy C was used extensively in compressor stators, the afterburner and nozzles. The part count in the F119 was reduced by 40 per cent against the earlier F100/F110 engines to improve reliability and maintainability. Extensive self diagnostic capabilities were incorporated to reduce personnel and test equipment demands on deployment by 50 per cent against the F-15. The F119-PW-100 is typically cited in the 35,000 lb static SL thrust class. The nozzles provide 20-degree deflection, used for manouevre and for supersonic cruise trim drag reduction. An Airframe Mounted Accessory Drive (AMAD) is used to couple engine power to generators, hydraulic pumps and shaft power to the engines from the Air Turbine Starter System (ATSS).

Thunderbirds-America's Ambassadors in Blue

Thunderbirds-America's Ambassadors in Blue

Thunderbirds are the United States Air Force Demonstration Squadron, also known like America's Ambassadors in Blue, fly on six F-16C/D Block 52. The Thunderbirds Squadron use 12 F-16, while nine are from the C-modification (6 participated in the air and rest are reserve) and three two-seated from the D-modification. In recent times the slot plane #4 is usually F-16D. The squadron home base is Nellis AFB, near Las Vegas.

In the squadron served 120 people - 12 officers, 4 civilians and 104 sergeants. The twelve officers have numbers with callsign Thunderbird. Thunderbird #1 is a leader and commander of the squadron. Pilots from #2 to #6 are demonstration pilots. #2 is the left wing, #3 is the right wing, #4 is the slot, # 5 is the lead solo and the #6 is the opposite solo.

#7 is an operative officer and #8 is a narrator and coordinator of the show. Those are fighter pilots in the squadron but only six of them participate in the airshow. All eight pilots fly on the planes with corresponding numbers: # 9 is the flight surgeon: #10 - the chief of the headquarters: #11 - the chief of support and #12 - public relations (PR) officer.

The Show

During the show pilots perform about 30 maneuvers. The flight show lasts about 40 minutes.

To perform the show, there must be a visibility at least 9200 meters (10 061 yards or 30 183 feet) from the showcenter. If the lower limit of clouds is between 450 meters (492 yards or 1476 feet) and 1060 meters (1159 yards or 3477 feet) they perform a show with limited number of figures, mostly in a horizontal plane, i. e., without loops and barrel rolls. That kind of show is called "flat". If the lower limit is between 1060 meters (1159 yards or 3477 feet) and 2440 meters (2668 yards or 8005 feet) they perform "lower" show barrel rolls but without loops. If the lower limit is above 2450 meters (2668 yards or 8005 feet) the Thunderbirds perform their full show.

If one of the pilots gets sick for the time of the show, the rest of pilots fly without him. If the commander is not capable of flying the show is postponed. The Thunderbirds have not stand-by pilots because it is very hard for a pilot to learn to fly in every single position of the formation. During the air show the Thunderbirds pilots use G-suites. The Thunderbirds do not perform over 88 shows in one year.

The Aircraft

The F-16 aircrafts of the Thunderbirds are equipped with special power aggregate which supplies restoring of electricity and hydraulics in case of engine stop or traction lost. This helps the malfunctioned plane to land safety. The aggregate uses hydrazine for fuel. Besides the roll of the cannon is removed and on its place is put the smoke tank. The smoke is released from a switch on the throttle (the engine control lever). For fuel for smoke is used oil on paraffin base which goes to exhaust pipe when it mixes with the jet and form the smoke. Another difference is presence of a chronometer in a pilot's compartment which gives the pilots an opportunity to measure every maneuver with accuracy and precision of seconds.

??? Sukhoi- The ? Road To T-50 ???

╰☆╮ Sukhoi- The ✯ Road To T-50 ╰☆╮

The public exposure of the Sukhoi/KnAAPO T-50/I-21/Article 701 PAK-FA or Перспективный Авиационный Комплекс Фронтовой Авиации following the 29th January, 2010, test flight has provided sufficient high resolution imagery, video camera footage, and incidental disclosures to perform an initial technical, techno-strategic, and strategic assessment of this new high performance low observable multirole fighter design.

The observed prototype design employs an interim  supercruising and thrust vectoring engine, common to the production Su-35S Flanker. The configuration is intended to validate aerodynamic and systems performance, and is clearly not intended for full validation of  low observables performance. A new 35 - 40 klbf class 3D TVC supercruising  engine for the PAK-FA is currently being developed by NPO Saturn.

Analysis of PAK-FA prototype airframe shaping shows a design which has forward fuselage, inlet, upper fuselage, wing and tail surface airframe Very Low Observable (VLO/stealth) shaping which is highly competitive against the US F-22A Raptor and YF-23 ATF designs. Aft and centre lower fuselage, and aft fuselage and nozzle shaping is inferior to the F-22A Raptor and YF-23 ATF designs, sharing the same deficiencies as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. This may be an artefact of the use of the interim engines, and uncertainty about aft and beam sector observables performance will remain until later prototypes with the production engine and aft/lower fuselage shaping are available.

? Eurofighter Typhoon ? Nothing Comes Close ?

☆ Eurofighter Typhoon ☆ Nothing Comes Close ☆

Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon

Overview:
In the early 1980s, several European countries, Britain, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain, were all on the lookout for indigenous aircraft they could use to replace their existing fleets when they reached obsolescence. Above all else, the countries desired a highly maneuverable aircraft instead of missile-equipped interceptors, able to handle any combat situation thrown at it and come out as good as new. Amid disputes, squabbles, and an endless amount of political disagreements emerged the excellent EF2000, now known universally as the Eurofighter Typhoon. It continues to serve with distinction under both European and Saudi Arabian colours, and countries such as Japan and India have shown interest. The Typhoon, arguably the greatest fighter in service other than the F-22, is certainly a prime example of European innovation.
The standard EF-2000 variant (A.K.A. Typhoon Tranche 1) was created with a focus on air superiority, although the later Tranche 2 aircraft enabled the aircraft to possess an impressive multi-role capability. It draws power from a pair of Eurojet EJ200 turbofans rated at 60 Kn each, with an afterburning option. The overall design of the EF-2000 (And all subsequent variants) is aerodynamically unstable, but as a result highly agile, and equips a computerized fly-by-wire system that will make adjustments to the aircraft as needed to keep it relatively stable. The tailless delta design and canard foreplanes allow the aircraft to make incredibly tight turns and out-maneuver most pre-4.5th generation fighters. The EF-2000 has a range of 2900 Km, a top speed of 2495 KmH and a service ceiling of 65,000 feet. Due to composite materials, the Eurofighter weighs no more than an impressive 11,000 Kg, although fully loaded it can weigh slightly more than double that amount.

Pilots flying the Eurofighter will sit on the combat-proven Martin Baker zero-zero ejection seat, with a HUD and TV-Screens at their disposal, eliminating the time needed to process information and react to impending combat situations. Another feature that allows the pilot to speedily interact with his/her aircraft is a voice-command system, which permits the craft to respond to certain spoken instructions. To the fore of the two-part glass canopy rests a nose mounted radome, housing the aircraft's avionics systems and sensor equipment. A single electronic-countermeasure pod sits at the tip of each wing, the only visible indications of the EF-2000's formidable Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) systems contained within the craft. The Eurofighters countermeasure options include radar jamming, chaff/flare dispensers, and the afterburning capability of the EJ200 which allows a speedy escape. Advanced AAM's such as AIM-9L Sidewinders, AIM-120 and AIM-132s can be carried. The Tranche 2 multi-role Eurofighter can also equip bombs, AGMs such as the Maverick, and even anti-radiation ALARM and AGM-88 HARM missiles.

? Global Air Power ? [1080 HD]

☆ Global Air Power ☆ [1080 HD]

Air Force air power is the integrated employment of all air and space forces to control and exploit the air and space environments to achieve national security objectives. Air power exploits the properties of its operating medium to realize unique operational characteristics and thus employs unique capabilities to provide the nation a broad range of military options. Air power's speed, range, and elevation are unique. Air power derives these characteristics from its operating medium that has few obstructions, covers the globe, and has vertical depth. The speed, range, and elevation of air power can be exploited to achieve unmatched responsiveness, mobility, and perspective. These capabilities, when properly employed through centralized control - decentralized execution, priority, balance, and concentration provide a range of military options to meet national security interests across the spectrum of peace, crisis, and armed conflict. Air power's strengths are air superiority, reliable global mobility, rapid global employment, and acute global awareness. These strengths are unique and are fundamental to the Air Force mission. Through these strengths the Air Force adds an unmatched expertise and military capability to the nation's defense force. Air power is singularly the force with global agility.

Because air power responds rapidly with global awareness to provide lethal and non-lethal force, it is the most responsive and versatile element of national military power. Air power exploits the properties of its operating medium to achieve unique operational characteristics and thus employs unique capabilities to provide the nation a broad range of military options. Air power is "the ability to do something in the air." Through air superiority, reliable global mobility, rapid global employment, and acute global awareness the Air Force can quickly, effectively, and economically serve the nation s needs.

? The Ultimate F-22A Raptor Video ?

☆ The Ultimate F-22A Raptor Video ☆

Welcome to the era of the F-22 Raptor -- the world's premier 5TH generation fighter.

The fast, agile, and stealthy F-22 began to take over the air dominance role first with Air Combat Command. Once testing and evaluations were successfully completed on the F-22 Raptor, it made its debut into the Air Force arsenal in 2005 as a replacement for the F-15 Eagle. The F-22's operational utility was tested and evaluated at Air Combat Command's 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
■The Block 10 Initial Operational Capability configuration, to be fielded this year, will be multirole, with the option of four AMRAAMs being replaced by GBU-32 JDAMs. This provides an analogous deep-strike capability to the F-117A, but is more survivable.
■ The Block 20 configuration is the baseline for the Global Strike Task Force (GSTF) fleet, and will include JSF common radar modules, a dedicated high-speed radar processor, and COTS technology CIP processors. The GBU-39/40 Small Diameter Bomb is introduced in the Block 20 aircraft by 2007, together with high resolution SAR radar modes, improved radar ECCM, two way voice and data MIDS/Link-16 capability, improved crew station software, and improved electronic countermeasures.
■The Block 30 configuration, planned for 2008-2011, extends the growth seen in the Block 20. Side-looking radar arrays provide a significant ISR capability in the aircraft along with enhancements to provide full Wild Weasel air defense suppression and time-critical target engagement capabilities. A Satcom terminal will provide continuous network connectivity during deep-strike profiles.
■The post-2011 Block 40 aircraft is intended to be the definitive Global Strike configuration, with incremental enhancements to Block 30 additions providing full sensor networking, range enhancements, integrated ISR capabilities, and a Helmet Mounted Display similar to the JSF.
■Longer term planning for a Block 50 envisages an Electronic Attack variant, replacing the lost EF-111A Raven. A stealthy stores pod for JDAM and SDB is under development to enable carriage on external pylons. As a strike aircraft the F-22A will have similar internal payloads to the JSF, but will be vastly more survivable due to better stealth.

By any measure, the development of the F-22A was revolutionary - in the technology employed and from a stealth design point standpoint - and this produced a combat aircraft that has no equal.

Being able to carry weapons internally was essential to its stealth capability, and efficient supercruise. Given the role away from dedicated air superiority, rather than incur the costs of resizing the compact main internal bays of the F-22A, sized initially around four early AIM-120A AMRAAMs, the US Air Force embarked on the 'Small Smart Bomb' program centered on the idea of carrying a payload of multiple 250 lbs. class bombs. Today's 385 lbs. GBU-39/B and GBU-40/B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) were sized around the F-22A weapon bay. For the intended role of busting an opponent's airfields, mobile missile batteries, and command posts, the mix of either two GBU-32 1,000 lbs. JDAMs or eight GBU-39/40 SDBs is an excellent fit. With all-aspect stealth and penetrating supersonic at 50,000-65,000 ft. AGL, the F-22A remains virtually unstoppable by surface-to-air missiles or fighters. It is likely that operational F-22As will be used far more frequently to break down an opponent's air defenses than in the classical air superiority role, despite the aircraft retaining the full air superiority capabilities envisaged for the ATF.

The 1990s saw the production configuration of the F-22A refined, with a new fuselage shape, revised larger span wing planform, smaller vertical tails positioned aft, relocated cockpit, and production configuration avionics architected.

Stealth shaping for the F-22A design was unique as it used edge-aligned inlets and thrust-vectoring nozzles, by virtue of edge length capable of defeating radars with greater wavelengths than any other stealthy fighter inlet and nozzle designs in existence. Built thus for all-aspect relatively wideband stealth, this is a distinct optimization for deep-penetration and air combat, and the most capable stealth design other than the specialized F-117A and B-2A.

The raw aerodynamic performance of the F-22A was without precedent. In military (dry) thrust setting the F-22A could cover the whole afterburning performance envelope of the F-15 - or advanced Sukhois, both still the highest performing energy fighters widely deployed. The F-22A was rated for 9G at combat weights.

With 20,650 lbs. of internal fuel, the F-22A internally carried 88 per cent of the fuel in a CFT-equipped F-15E, with no drag penalty, yet with four 592 USG drop tanks, a total fuel load of 36,515 lbs. could be carried, 6 per cent more than the internal fuel of the larger F-111.

Inside The Cockpit Part VII-Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon

Inside The Cockpit Part VII-Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon

F-22A Raptors Returns to Flight

F-22A Raptors Returns to Flight

The F-22 Fleet resumed flight operations today. Recently a implementation plan was developed and approved by Air Combat Command that allowed the F-22 Raptor to resume flight operations after a four month stand down.

Included is interviews with the commander of the 302nd Fighter Squadron, the 3rd Maintenance Group, and the 3rd Operations Group. Soundbites: Lt. Col David Piffarerio, 302nd Fighter Squadron Commander; Col David Stimac, 3rd Maintenance Group Commander, Col Derek France, 3rd Operations Group Commander. Also available in HD.

The Air Force's fleet of 170 F-22 stealth fighters will return to service Wednesday, Air Force officials said.

The fleet was put on stand-down in May over concerns about the system that delivered oxygen to pilots aboard the jets.

That order came after 12 pilots reported hypoxia-like symptoms since 2008. Hypoxia is when the body does not receive enough oxygen.

The Air Force didn't explain exactly what has changed to clear the fleet.

"We now have enough insight from recent studies and investigations that a return to flight is prudent and appropriate," Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz said in a statement. "We're managing the risks with our aircrews, and we're continuing to study the F-22's oxygen systems and collect data to improve its performance."

An Air Force spokeswoman could not elaborate.

However, the Air Force said the planes will be subject to "rigorous inspections, training on life support systems, and continued data collection," according to the statement.

Officials at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson said Tuesday that the entire fleet has been cleared to return to service, flying above 50,000 feet. There are 40 stealth fighters based in Anchorage.

All planes will have their life support systems inspected before they are allowed to fly, and then will have additional daily inspections. Pilots will have physiological tests, and will have to use additional protective equipment, the release says.

The Air Force has groups studying both the hypoxia reports and safety issues with the Raptors' oxygen systems, with findings expected later this year.

Capt. Jeffrey Haney was killed in November 2010 when his F-22 crashed during a training exercise about 100 miles north of Anchorage. An Air Force report on his death has not yet been released, but spokeswoman Maj. Maureen Schumann said Air Force officials have previously indicated evidence recovered at the crash site indicated his death was not hypoxia-related. No other details were immediately available.

The F-22 Raptor, made by Lockheed Martin Corp., was introduced in 2005 and the Air Force says it has flown over 300 missions in Operation Noble Eagle.
