I was enjoying my first Masskara Festival experience in the City of Smiles, Bacolod, with my officemates when this photo was taken. Our smiles turned into frowns when this “unwanted subject” passed by suddenly and made us his background. How’s that for destroying our moment? We had to do take 2 and make sure that no one would steal our smiles again.

hahaha! this beats them all. while photobombers normally stay in the background, this one did it upfront. a case of the photobombed bombing out the photobomber? ;D

But it wasn't the only joke the prince used at the hospital, whose administrators he urged to get a helipad to save him a journey by land.

British royal quips PH 'must be half empty'

The high number of Filipinos employed as health workers abroad had United Kingdom's Duke of Edinburgh wondering if the country was "half empty."

"The Philippines must be half empty--you're all here running the NHS (National Health Service)," the UK-based news site BBC quoted Prince Philip as saying.

my personal opinion:

fr, hans kung is the kind of intellectual giant whose tragic flaw could be pride.  while his opinions and proposals are not to be trifled with, pride could not make him wait for these to come to fruition in their own good time.  so he rues others; it's the fault of others and not his impatience.

we know that every organization, from a neighborhood association to a corporate empire, is supposed to have this kind in varying degrees.  when they talk, they expect others to listen and obey.  so it is with the church as a temporal organization.  this kind will always be poison even if some have actually prevailed.  but confound it, even the heavens had a lucifer.

The iconic crossing in 2004
length: 2.1 kms

Abbey Road is a thoroughfare located in the borough of Camden and the City of Westminster in London, running roughly northwest to southeast through St. John's Wood, near Lord's Cricket Ground. It is part of the B507. This road is best known for the Abbey Road Studios and the 1969 album, Abbey Road, by The Beatles. (wikipedia)

The image of the Beatles on the crossing has become one of the most famous and imitated in recording history. The crossing is a popular destination for Beatles fans and there is a webcam featuring it. In December 2010, the crossing was given grade II listed status for its "cultural and historical importance"; the Abbey Road studios themselves had been given similar status earlier in the year. In 2013, Kolkata Police, launched an traffic safety awareness advertisement, using the cover and having a caption "If they can, why can't you?". (wikipedia)

In the scene, the group walk across the street in single file from left to right, with Lennon leading, followed by Starr, McCartney, and Harrison. McCartney is barefoot. With the exception of Harrison, the group are wearing suits designed by Tommy Nutter. To the left of the picture, parked next to the zebra crossing, is a white Volkswagen Beetle motor-car which belonged to one of the people living in the block of flats across from the recording studio. After the album was released, the number plate (LMW 281F) was stolen repeatedly from the car. In 1986, the car was sold at auction for £2,530 and in 2001 was on display in a museum in Germany. The man standing on the pavement to the right of the picture is Paul Cole (c. 1911 â€" 13 February 2008), an American tourist unaware he had been photographed until he saw the album cover months later. [Abbey Road] Imagery

The front cover design, a photograph of the group traversing a zebra crossing, was based on sketched ideas by McCartney and taken on 8 August 1969 outside EMI Studios on Abbey Road. At around 11:30 that morning, photographer Iain Macmillan was given only ten minutes to take the photo whilst he stood on a step-ladder and a policeman held up the traffic. (wikipedia)

Is It Really Necessary to Sign a Painting?
It's not a legal requirement, but if you don't add your name to a painting, how will anyone know who the artist is? You may argue that you've a very familiar style that people will recognize, but what if it's the first time someone's encountered your work? How will they find out who the artist is then? If it's hanging in a gallery it'll have a label with your name on it, but what if it's in the lounge of someone who's bought a painting and they can't remember who the artist was? Think about the works by famous artists which are 'rediscovered' every now and then; is this a fate you want to risk for your paintings?

In his arguments against iconoclasm, the Damascene made clear that it the veneration of icons, and the use of sacred images in architecture and worship was not idolatry, but rather a recognition that God uses the physical to make known the intelligible. Just as God the Son took to himself a human form, in order to make the truth of the Father known to man in a way most proper to him, so also does iconography serve to raise the mind to spiritual realities by means of the physical.

and, oh, one more conspiracy theory: the aborted 'operation merkeda' that led to the jabidah massacre may have happened when it became clear that the quixotic quest to annex sabah to the philippines did not have u.s. backing.  in case we have gone to war with malaysia, that country will be backed up by britain and the u.s. would have expectedly taken britain's side and not the philippines's.
#24867
with all this, including conspiracy theories like seeing nur misuari's hand in the sudden "vacation" of the sulu sutanate's royal army in sabah, we can bet that there won't be a squeak of an official claim or disclaim from the office of the president.  we have enough problems with the spratlys and scarborough/panatag shoal.
#24868
7. as there has been no official stand by the philippines to drop its claim, it looks like no president would want to go down in history as the president who gave up an island rich in natural resources, let alone ruin the country's ties with malaysia, a fellow founding member of the ASEAN

8. malaysia has a key role in the ongoing peace initiative with the MILF

9. sabah was the reason for the infamous jabidah massacre
#24869
4. britain's colonial period had a hand in this dormant and ongoing philippine claim to sabah, which is based on the ancestral heritage of the sulu sultanate

5. unfortunately, the people of sabah preferred to be part of malaysia in 1963 when the country was federated

6. sabah has non-malay ethnic groups in its population, like the tausug and the sama that are ethnically and culturally more filipino than malaysian
#24870
either or is like the devil and the deep blue sea.  the facts:

1. Sabah is one of the 13 member states of Malaysia and is its easternmost state. It is located on the northern portion of the island of Borneo. It is the second largest state in the country after Sarawak, which it borders on its southwest. It also shares a border with the province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south. In spite of its internationally recognized status as a Malaysian state, the Philippines lays a dormant claim over much of the eastern part of the territory, which Malaysia has dismissed as a "non-issue". (wikipedia)

2. the philippines has a royal sultanate in sulu

3. HOWEVER, malaysia recognizes the sulu sultanate's centuries-old ancestral claim to sabah  by paying rent for sabah to the current sultan, jamalul kiram III.

The shop was founded by accident by Harold Chapman Snr in 1913.

His brother was in the business of importing celluloid dolls from Japan but the rubber bands that held them together would often disintegrate and the dolls would be damaged.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/
#24873
The workshop is about to mark 100 years of repairing dolls after it was opened thanks to a shipping error in the Australian city back in 1913.

And despite changing technology meaning that many modern children are more interested in the latest gadgets or computer games, the business is still going strong, with dolls sent from all over Australia and even across the sea from New Zealand for repair.

A century of fixing toys: Haunting look inside the doll hospital that comes with its own cemetery for figures beyond repair

#Sydney's Famous Original Doll Hospital is celebrating its 100th birthday

#It was founded after some dolls were damaged in transit from Japan in 1913

#Dolls are still sent from all over Australia and even New Zealand for repair

By Steve Nolan
19 February 2013

With hundreds of plastic legs, arms, and heads stacked high in boxes, it looks like a haunting resting place for hundreds of unwanted dolls discarded by girls who no longer want to play with them.

But although Sydney's Famous Original Doll Hospital does have a cemetery for doll parts that are beyond repair, many of the toy parts littering the workshop are waiting to be given a new lease of life.

For the company has been the saviour of hundreds of thousands of Australian girls devastated when their beloved doll has lost a limb or been damaged in an overly boisterous game and has revived millions of childhood memories.
