At last they went to the dining-car. Two rows of negro waiters, in glowing white suits, surveyed their entrance with the interest and also the equanimity of men who had been forewarned. The pair fell to the lot of a waiter who happened to feel pleasure in steering them through their meal. He viewed them with the manner of a fatherly pilot, his countenance radiant with benevolence. The patronage, entwined with the ordinary deference, was not plain to them. And yet, as they returned to their coach, they showed in their faces a sense of escape.

To the left, miles down a long purple slope, was a little ribbon of mist where moved the keening Rio Grande. The train was approaching it at an angle, and the apex was Yellow Sky. Presently it was apparent that, as the distance from Yellow Sky grew shorter, the husband became commensurately restless. His brick-red hands were more insistent in their prominence. Occasionally he was even rather absent-minded and far-away when the bride leaned forward and addressed him.

As a matter of truth, Jack Potter was beginning to find the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a man known, liked, and feared in his corner, a prominent person, had gone to San Antonio to meet a girl he believed he loved, and there, after the usual prayers, had actually induced her to marry him, without consulting Yellow Sky for any part of the transaction. He was now bringing his bride before an innocent and unsuspecting community.

"We are due in Yellow Sky at 3:42," he said, looking tenderly into her eyes.

"Oh, are we?" she said, as if she had not been aware of it. To evince surprise at her husband's statement was part of her wifely amiability. She took from a pocket a little silver watch, and as she held it before her and stared at it with a frown of attention, the new husband's face shone.
"I bought it in San Anton' from a friend of mine," he told her gleefully.

"It's seventeen minutes past twelve," she said, looking up at him with a kind of shy and clumsy coquetry. A passenger, noting this play, grew excessively sardonic, and winked at himself in one of the numerous mirrors.

Later, he explained to her about the trains. "You see, it's a thousand miles from one end of Texas to the other, and this train runs right across it and never stops but four times." He had the pride of an owner. He pointed out to her the dazzling fittings of the coach, and in truth her eyes opened wider as she contemplated the sea-green figured velvet, the shining brass, silver, and glass, the wood that gleamed as darkly brilliant as the surface of a pool of oil. At one end a bronze figure sturdily held a support for a separated chamber, and at convenient places on the ceiling were frescoes in olive and silver.

To the minds of the pair, their surroundings reflected the glory of their marriage that morning in San Antonio. This was the environment of their new estate, and the man's face in particular beamed with an elation that made him appear ridiculous to the negro porter. This individual at times surveyed them from afar with an amused and superior grin. On other occasions he bullied them with skill in ways that did not make it exactly plain to them that they were being bullied. He subtly used all the manners of the most unconquerable kind of snobbery. He oppressed them, but of this oppression they had small knowledge, and they speedily forgot that infrequently a number of travelers covered them with stares of derisive enjoyment. Historically there was supposed to be something infinitely humorous in their situation.

The bride was not pretty, nor was she very young. She wore a dress of blue cashmere, with small reservations of velvet here and there and with steel buttons abounding. She continually twisted her head to regard her puff sleeves, very stiff, straight, and high. They embarrassed her. It was quite apparent that she had cooked, and that she expected to cook, dutifully. The blushes caused by the careless scrutiny of some passengers as she had entered the car were strange to see upon this plain, under-class countenance, which was drawn in placid, almost emotionless lines.

They were evidently very happy. "Ever been in a parlor-car before?" he asked, smiling with delight.

"No," she answered, "I never was. It's fine, ain't it?"

"Great! And then after a while we'll go forward to the diner and get a big layout. Finest meal in the world. Charge a dollar."

"Oh, do they?" cried the bride. "Charge a dollar? Why, that's too much - for us - ain't it, Jack?"

"Not this trip, anyhow," he answered bravely. "We're going to go the whole thing."

The great Pullman was whirling onward with such dignity of motion that a glance from the window seemed simply to prove that the plains of Texas were pouring eastward. Vast flats of green grass, dull-hued spaces of mesquite and cactus, little groups of frame houses, woods of light and tender trees, all were sweeping into the east, sweeping over the horizon, a precipice.

A newly married pair had boarded this coach at San Antonio. The man's face was reddened from many days in the wind and sun, and a direct result of his new black clothes was that his brick-colored hands were constantly performing in a most conscious fashion. From time to time he looked down respectfully at his attire. He sat with a hand on each knee, like a man waiting in a barber's shop. The glances he devoted to other passengers were furtive and shy.

Reunion Today as Missing Cat Returns Home After Seven Years
December 26, 2012 Posted by Editor in News
http://www.lifewithcats.tv/

The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA went the extra mile, make that hundreds of miles, when they sent a staffer to chaperone and hand deliver a precious bit of cargo today. Sophia the cat, who disappeared from her family in Arizona seven years ago, was turned in to the San Diego, California shelter last weekend by someone who had been caring for her. A microchip scan showed that she previously lived with Tricia Osterman, of Phoenix.

News crews were on hand today as Tricia waited at Sky Harbor airport, and finally saw her long lost cat for the first time in seven years.

Worth said she also wanted to send a huge thankyou to the family who took Willow in looked after her until a place became available at the Gables.

Katie Barkell, from the Gables, said: "It's so difficult to match cats up with their owners, especially when the cat's been missing for four years … so having them microchipped is fantastic as we can get them straight back in contact.

"It was just brilliant to be able to tell them their cat is home … They rushed in and she [Mrs Worth] was just lost for words, she said it was just the best Christmas present they could have hoped for."
#24417
Worth said the cat, which she had rehomed from an RSPCA centre, was now doing well but had seemed timid on the first night she was home.

She added that her six-year-old daughter, Izzy-May, was able to remember Willow, but the cat was a "delightful" new addition for two-year-old Olivia-Rose.

"Izzy-May has been feeding her special treats and giving her extra attention during feeding time and she's now met our second daughter.

"Izzy-May is extremely excited as she used to see her in the photo albums and didn't quite understand why she went, but she now has her back, which is wonderful.

"I'm not sure what has happened to her during the last four years but she does seem a lot more timid than before she left our family … She's now getting lots and lots of TLC, lots of cuddles and more cats' toys than you could imagine."
#24418
Willow was taken in six months ago by a family from the Elburton area of Plymouth until a space became available at a nearby animal rescue centre.

But it was not until last week that the Gables Farm Dogs' and Cats' Home in Plymouth finally identified her thanks to an implanted microchip.

Worth, 32, said she was with her husband, Mark, 31, and their two young daughters when she received the call from the charity last Tuesday.

"We had almost given up hope that we would ever find her again and it was a really wonderful experience to know that she had finally come home," she said.

"I wish she (Willow) spoke, as all we know is that for the last six months she's been living in Elburton, but the previous three and a half years are a mystery."

Missing cat comes home after four years
guardian.co.uk, Monday 2 January 2012 14.44 GMT

Willow, 10, identified by microchip after making 20-mile journey across moors to Plymouth

The owners of a cat that went missing four years ago got a late surprise Christmas present when they were reunited with her the day after Boxing Day.

Willow, who is now 10 years old, disappeared after being let out to play from her home in Princetown, Devon, in 2007.

The black cat was one of three that vanished from the same close in the town on Dartmoor within months of each other.

While one of them turned up in Taunton, Somerset, Willow was finally found in Plymouth.

"It's really only sinking in now, but it's the best Christmas present ever," owner Cristel Worth said.

"How she managed to stray from Princetown to, about 20 miles away, to get to Elburton, I have no idea. It's a long journey right across the moors."

He even raised the possibility that bigger crimes could be happening in dark alleys of Manila since perpetrators can boldly strike in peaceful open gatherings.

“I now challenge my political opponents to unmask those who are responsible for the stone-throwing incident if only to show the people of Manila that the capital city has not turned into a fictional crime-ridden Gotham City,” Estrada said.

“This is one case when he cannot say ‘Bahala na si Batman’ since he is the one in charge. He must show that law offenders will be punished and the general public will be protected from harm,” he urged.

Estrada, who served as San Juan City mayor before holding national posts, emphasized that he is more capable of assuring security in Manila after making crime-busting as part of his priority programs when he became president from 1998 to 2001.
#24424
Estrada, who wants to replace Lim, issued the statement as he expressed dismay over the stone-throwing incident that rocked his local slate’s campaign caucus over the weekend.

Three people were hurt when an unidentified group threw rocks and beer bottles at the stage, where Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) was holding a program in Sampaloc, Manila last Saturday night.

Estrada decided to end the program, even as he had not delivered his campaign message so as to ease the tension and ensure the safety of his supporters.

“If this happened to me, what more to ordinary Manileños? If an incumbent councilor can be stoned at and get hurt, what more for defenseless civilians?” Estrada said.

Erap feels he's like Batman in Gotham City.

This is how former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada hoped to save the city of Manila, which he feared has transformed into fictional crime-infested Gotham City.

Estrada argued that during the term of Manila Mayor Alfredo “Dirty Harry” Lim, criminals have become more brazen â€" even influencing law enforcers â€" in committing crimes in the metro.

“Manila has overtaken Quezon City as the carnapping capital. There is also a news report showing that agents of the Manila Police District are involved with kidnapping,” Estrada said.

In the 2012-2013 QS general ranking of universities worldwide, Philippine schools again failed to make it to the top 300.

The University of the Philippines remained the top Filipino school in the list, although slipping to being ranked 348th from 332nd in the previous list.

Ateneo de Manila University dropped to the 451-500 bracket from being ranked 360th. While De La Salle University, slid to the 601+ bracket from being in the 551-600 bracket.
#24427
Based on subject, however, QS ranked UP and Ateneo as part of the top 51-100 schools for English language and literature. La Salle was in the top 101-150 for the same subject.

Ateneo was also included in the top 151-200 in the global ranking for modern languages. UP was meanwhile in the top 151-200 schools for agriculture and forestry.

The global university rankings by subject is based on assessments of academics and employers of university graduates through a global survey. This year it included 2,858 schools in evaluations but only ranked 678 institutions.

U.S. schools led the rankings in most subjects, with Harvard University topping 10 disciplines. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked first in seven subjects; the University of California-Berkeley and Oxford University in four subjects; and Cambridge in three subjects.

Three Philippine universities have landed in a global list of top universities based on 30 disciplines, with their best performances seen in the English language.

The University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University belonged to the top 200 in the "QS World University Ranking by Subject 2013."

The list was released by London-based education consultant Quacquarelli Symonds, the same firm which showed Philippine schools slipping down its 2012-2103 general university rankings.

WITHOUT YOU

Where are you my love?
I need you my love
Please try to forgive
For I cannot live
No I can't go on without you

Swallow all your pride
This I beg of you
And I'll cry no more
No not like before
For I've tasted tears without you

Come back my love
I know I was wrong
And now I pray
That I can be strong

Run to me my love
Fill my empty arms
Come as close as you can
For though I'm a man
I'm just a child without you

Come back my love
I know I was wrong
And now I pray
That I can be strong

Run to me my love
Fill my empty arms
Come as close as you can
For though I'm a man
I'm just a child without you

A local Burmese reporter said that on 22 March, the day after the madrasa attack, she had seen the remains of six charred bodies, all of whom were dumped on street corners in downtown Meikhtila. She believes they were killed and then dragged to the street corner before being set alight. She was witness to one killing in broad daylight on the morning of 22 March.

“I saw a man, around 30 years old, walking down the street close to the clock tower [in central Meikhtila]. A group of six or seven men surrounded him and slit his throat. They then poured petrol on him and burned him.”

The reporter filmed the whole event; after the attackers told her to stop filming she jumped on a motorbike taxi and fled. The group chased her on motorbikes and when they caught up with her, began hitting her across the back with sticks, but she managed to escape.

#24448
After visiting Meikhtila in late March, leader of the 88 Generation Students activists Min Ko Naing told the media that he had “a strong suspicion that these violent situations were caused intentionally by highly-trained persons.”

Like other incidents of violence in Burma, particularly against the Rohingya minority in Arakan state, locals in Meikhtila say many of the attackers were brought in from outside the town, suggesting the unrest had been planned.

One aid group who did not want to be identified told The Irrawaddy that key informants in Meikhtila had said organized elements from two nearby townships were fomenting violence. Similar reports emerged following heavy rioting in Arakan state last year.
#24449
He dismissed reports that the violence was organized, although acknowledged that he had witnessed police standing by and watching several killings take place. “The police had told [government officials] that the violence was stopped early, but it wasn’tâ€"no action was taken.”

By the time a state of emergency was announced on the 22 March, the official death toll had reached 43 and 93 people had been hospitalized. Burmese authorities have made no statement regarding the alleged madrasa attack and it remains unclear whether the incident is being investigated.
#24450
The violence in Meikhtila was triggered on 20 March by a brawl in a gold shop between a Buddhist couple and the Muslim owner; later that day, a group of Muslims reportedly snatched a monk, U Thawbita, from a monastery, and killed him. The two incidents sparked a wave of attacks by Buddhist mobs on Muslims that ceased only after the announcement of martial law on 22 March.

More than 12,000 people have been displaced since the violence began. Five official camps for displaced civilians have been set up in Meikhtilaâ€"three for Muslims, and two for Buddhists. Other unofficial camps exist outside of town. Since the end of March, journalists have barred from entering the official camps; according to Win Htein, aid distributed by the NLD and other local groups has to be left outside of the camps, although this has not been independently verified.
#24451
The mother of the 26-year-old teacher said she believed his body had been burned during a mass cremation. This would support eyewitness reports of a pile of bodies burning close to the madrasa. Win Htein also said he had heard the bodies were burned. “The Muslim community is very upset that that they weren’t given Muslim rights.”

PHR said in a statement that some of the missing students have been identified in photographs of dead bodies taken in the town immediately following the attacks. The group said the government should allow international investigators to probe the madrasa massacre, and urged community and religious leaders to denounce the violence.
#24452
A 32-year-old woman at the camp, who also asked to remain anonymous, said that she had seen an elderly man attacked by a group of men as he walked away from the madrasa with his grandson. She said she saw him fall to the ground, but could not see what happened to the child. Other groups of students who had escaped the building were reportedly set upon by the waiting mob.

According to Physicians for Human Rights, the 32 students still missing from the incident are aged between 14 and 24. Although no information about their whereabouts has been released, and authorities have refused to provide any details, PHR said that families and community leaders the group interviewed “feared that all of the missing were killed.”
#24453
Video shot by Radio Free Asia and circulated on Facebook shows the immediate aftermath of the attack on the madrasa and surrounding buildings, with police seen escorting hundreds of Muslims out of Mingalarzayaung quarter. At one point in the video, a woman watching the evacuation from the road is heard shouting “Kill them, kill them!”

The Irrawaddy visited the site in early April and found the area to be a mass of rubble. Various other buildings surrounding the madrasa were also razedâ€"satellite images obtained by Human Rights Watch indicate that 46 buildings were destroyed in the neighborhood. Apart from a few piles of charred clothing, the area had been picked clean by scavengers. Security forces were nowhere to be seen.
#24454
Win Htein, head of the National League for Democracy’s branch in Meikhtila, also witnessed the attack on the madrasa. He says that he saw eight people being killed, and that “police stood and watched” as the attack unfolded.

A local Burmese reporter who arrived at the madrasa around 5 pm on 21 March, some six hours after the attack took place. She said she saw a pile of 30 to 40 bodies between the madrasa and a nearby elevated road. She returned at 9 pm and the bodies were on fire. People were standing around the pile, some of whom she said were crying.
#24455
The majority of the Muslim population of Mingalarzayaung quarter now resides in camps outside Meikhtila town. One lady interviewed in an unofficial camp for some 3,400 displaced persons, said she had not seen her son, a 26-year-old teacher at the madrasa, since the attack. Students who managed to escape later relayed his final moments to her.

“He was trying to help the other students to hide in bushes close to the madrasa,” she said. Police had arrived after the mob started attacking and told the students to come out from the bushes. “They [the police] said they would be safe. Some of the students tried to run but were caught by the mob.” Her son confronted a group of the attackers and a fight broke out. “The students told me that they saw him fall to the ground and then they cut him with a sword.”
#24456
The students who were at the madrasa in Mingalarzayaung quarter when it was attacked and razed by a mob on the morning of 21 March remain unaccounted for. Families of the missing fear they were killed, and say authorities have given no information about their whereabouts.

Staff working for the US-based Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) collected the names of 32 students missing since the attack. An additional four teachers are also unaccounted for. Testimonies collected last week from eyewitnesses, one of whom told The Irrawaddy she had seen a pile of bodies being burned close to the madrasa, lend weight to fears that all of the missing are dead.

MEIKHTILAâ€"Pressure is growing on the Burmese government to investigate an alleged massacre of more than 30 Muslim students at a madrasa in Meikhtila town in central Burma, during an outburst of inter-communal violence last month.

Reports of the incident, which would constitute one of the biggest single acts of mass killing since anti-Muslim violence began, have been corroborated by eyewitnesses.

Police didn't immediately provide any details of how the women were found but said they appeared to be in good health and had been taken to a hospital to be reunited with relatives and to be evaluated.

They said a six-year-old also was found in the home.

On a recorded 911 call Monday, Amanda declared: 'I'm Amanda Berry. I've been on the news for the last 10 years.'

She said she had been taken by someone and begged for police officers to arrive at the home on Cleveland's west side before he returned.
#24465
'I’ve known him since I was like five or six years old myself, he would asked me if I wanted a ride. He seemed like he was a good guy to the kids that were here, I don't think he had any bad (attention).'

He also revealed that his sister once heard a scream come from the home and called police but nothing ever came of it. Looking back, he said, he should have seen the signs that something was not quite right.

'Now it's like, red-flag, red-flag, red-flag, somebody should've said something and my sister actually a few years ago heard a scream and she called police.

'He was a fun guy. I mean, parents trusted him. He talked to the parents. He was just a regular guy on the street. He put on that great mask that everyone thought he was a good guy.'
#24466
Also struck by the allegations, the suspects' uncle, Julio Castro, told CNN: 'I never want to see them again. For me, it's bad on one side and good on the other side.'

Julio Castro said his nephew used to play bass in various bands that performed at a local club once owned by DeJesus' uncle.

He said he believes his nephew knew the family from the club and the neighborhood.

Another neighbor Juan Perez told News Channel 5: 'He was a nice guy, he would come around and say hi. He gave the kids rides up and down the street on his four-wheeler.

Alleged abductor: Ariel Castro was a local bus driver in the Cleveland area and was a quiet and mysterious figure in the neighborhood where no one really knew him well

He started the story with: 'Neighborhood residents have been taken by an overwhelming need for caution. Parents are more strictly enforcing curfews, encouraging their children to walk in groups, or driving them to and from school when they had previously walked alone.

'One thing is for certain, however. Almost everyone feels a connection with the family, and Gina’s disappearance has the whole area talking.'

Mother Nancy Ruiz told him at the time: 'You can tell the difference. People are watching out for each other’s kids.

'It’s a shame that a tragedy had to happen for me to really know my neighbors. Bless their hearts, they’ve been great.'

Anthony Castro told WKYC-TV reporter Sara Shookman yesterday: 'This is beyond comprehension … I’m truly stunned right now.'

Authorities say the women have been taken to a hospital to reunite with relatives and seem to be in good health.

Michelle Knight had been missing since 2002, Amanda Berry since 2003 and Gina DeJesus since 2004.

Remarkably, Castro's son - also named Ariel who now goes by 'Anthony' - penned an article for the Cleveland Plain Press about the disappearance of Miss DeJesus back in 2004 when he was a journalism student.

He even interviewed her mother for the piece, not knowing that the teen was tied up in a basement owned by his father.

Jannette Gomez, 50, who often visits family and friends on the street, said Castro would park his motorcycle and red pickup truck behind the house, lock the gate and enter the house through a back door.

Occasionally, he would turn on a dim porch light, but the house was always dark, she told The Plain Dealer. Shades blocked the windows, and at least one window was boarded up.

Gomez said he never had much to say, she said. He would say 'Hi' back, but there was never much conversation.

The county prosecutor joined dozens of police officers and sheriff's deputies at the scene as they began searching the house late on Monday.

Records show that Castro was arrested for domestic violence and disorderly conduct in December, 1993, though details of this are not yet available.

He was also stopped six times by Cleveland Police between 1995 and 2008 for traffic violations.

In a press conference today, it was revealed that police were called to the house in January 2004, after Castro left a child on his bus at the depot. They were not able to get anyone at the home and police did not follow up on it.

After an investigation, no criminal intent was found.

There are no other records of any violations or complaints in relation to the address.

He was a school bus driver in the area until November 2012, when he was let go after doing an illegal U-turn with children on the bus, according to the Cleveland Leader.

Castro has lived in the house since 1992. His two brothers - Pedro, 54, and O'Neal, 50, - do not live at the home but were arrested in connection with the three abductions.

Sources close to local station WOIO said the women were reportedly tied up during their captivity and police found chains hanging from one of the ceilings.

They also reported there were signs that dirt had recently been moved in the backyard of the house, though police continue to investigate whether or not the dirt will lead to any new evidence in the case.

Neighbors in the street were shocked to hear that Castro, who was a school bus driver in the Cleveland area until last year, could be capable of abducting three innocent teenagers from the street and tying them up with chains in his basement.

Castro's Facebook page depicts a man with a passion for motorcycles and the bass guitar.

His last post to the social networking site on May 2 says: 'Miracles really do happen, God is good :)'

The man who came to Amanda Berry's rescue, Charles Ramsey, expressed disbelief that his neighbor could be capable of such a disturbed and shocking crime.

He told NewsNet5: 'I've been here a year. I barbeque with this dude, we eat ribs and what not and listen to salsa music. Not a clue that that girl was in that house or that anyone else was in there with.

'He just comes out to his backyard, plays with the dogs, tinkering with his cars and motorcycles and goes back in the house.

'He's somebody you look and then you look away because he's just doing normal stuff. You got some big testicles to pull this one off because we see this guy every day.'

The prime suspect in the astonishing kidnapping case of three women held captive for ten years posted a final message on Facebook saying: 'Miracles really do happen'.

Ariel Castro, 52, of Cleveland, Ohio, was arrested on Monday after one of his alleged victims escaped his home and called police and is now in custody along with his two brothers.

An emergency room doctor who treated the three women said they were in fair condition and were being evaluated.

"This isn't the ending we usually hear to these stories so we're very happy for them," Gerald Maloney told reporters.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said he was "thankful that these three young ladies are found and alive."

"We have many unanswered questions regarding this case, and the investigation will be ongoing," Jackson said in a statement.

Police said they would provide more details at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

She'd had her hopes dashed by false reports before. But this time, it was true. So she rushed to the hospital in hopes of confirming it with her own eyes.

"She was my best friend," Mitchell told the Plain Dealer.

A friend interrupted her, "She's alive. She is your best friend."

"You're right," Mitchell continued. "She is my best friend. I'm so nervous. I'm so excited. They won't let me inside. But I will stay here all night if I have to."

Neighbor Charlie Czorba said he was stunned by how long the women had lived at the house undetected.

"This is our own backyard," Czorba told the paper. "These girls were locked up in our own backyard."

Castro was described by neighbors as a friendly school bus driver and musician whose daughter would often come over with his grandchildren.

Tasheena Mitchell, 26, said she didn't believe her brother at first when he called to tell her that their cousin Amanda had been found alive.

Berry was last seen on April 21, 2003 when she left work at a fast food restaurant that was just a few blocks from her home around 7:40 pm, according to the FBI. She was 16 when she disappeared.

Her mother, Louwanna Miller, reportedly died of heart failure in March 2006.

DeJesus was 14 when she vanished while walking home from school on April 2, 2004.

Knight, who was 21 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen at a cousin's house on August 23, 2002, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Kayla Rogers, 23, went to school with DeJesus and joined the crowd gathered near the house on Seymore Avenue where her friend had been held captive.

"They don't find people who go missing, you know," Rogers, 23, told the Plain Dealer.

"I'm at a loss for words."

Rogers said she only attended one vigil over the years, because it was too painful.

Ramsey said he tried to get her out through the door but could not pull it open, so he kicked out the bottom and she crawled through "carrying a little girl."

Berry went into a neighboring home and called police, begging them to come as soon as they could "before he gets back."

"I'm Amanda Berry. I've been kidnapped. I've been missing for 10 years. I'm free. I'm here now," Berry said in the recording of her frantic call to 911.

She told the dispatcher that the man who had held her captive was called Ariel Castro. When police arrived she told them there were other captives in the home.

"All three women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight, seem to be in good health," Cleveland police said in a statement.

"A 52-year-old Hispanic male has been placed under arrest regarding this incident."

FBI file photos of Amanda Berry (L) and Georgina DeJesus, both of whom went missing as teenagers about a decade ago and were found alive May 6, 2013 in a residential area of Cleveland, Ohio, not far from where they were last seen. A third woman, Michelle Knight, was also found in the same house. Three men have been arrested in the case.

Three young women who had been missing for a decade -- two of whom disappeared as teenagers -- have been found alive in a house in Cleveland, police in the US state of Ohio said.

The dramatic discovery drew hundreds of cheering people to the usually quiet, residential street to celebrate the news that the women, long feared dead, were very much alive.

The details of the trauma they may have suffered in captivity were not yet known, but it appeared that at least one of the girls had borne a child during her captivity.

The nightmare ended when Amanda Berry reached her arm through a crack in the front door and called for help.

"I heard screaming... And I see this girl going nuts trying to get outside of the house," Charles Ramsey told the local ABC news affiliate.

"I go on the porch, and she said 'Help me get out. I've been here a long time.'"

let me get this straight because tb does not condone cruelty to animals, much less vegetables, or so i believe...

the cucumber that was simply standing up for its rights ended up being abused?

If the abuser's defense is to be believed, the cucumber is partially at fault for situating itself on the abuser's chair in an upright position...
