Gay Marriages 400 Years Ago in Europe! - A lighter "Dark Age"
By: Stefan Anitei, Science Editor - Softpedia

Homosexuality was a frequent reality for the ancient Greeks and Romans, who left many writings, paintings, mosaics representing homosexual men and lesbian women. The very term "homosexual" comes from Ancient Greek, meaning "same sex" and "lesbian" comes from the island of Lesbos (Greece) where Moon Goddess' priestesses practiced lesbianism.

In ancient Sparta, homosexuality was seen as a virtue. Many religions are tolerant to homosexuality; Christianity has been always seen as highly intolerant to this. And this shaped the attitude of the European and Western civilization towards this phenomenon.

Still, a new investigation shows that civil unions between male couples existed six centuries ago in medieval Europe. Moreover, gay marriages were not taboo in a "Dark Age" Europe. "Historical evidence, including legal documents and gravesites, can be interpreted as supporting the prevalence of homosexual relationships hundreds of years ago," said Allan Tulchin of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. "Western family structures have been much more varied than many people today seem to realize. And Western legal systems have in the past made provisions for a variety of household structures." signals Tulchin.

Legal contracts in France in the 14th century referred to the same sex marriages as "affrèrement" ("frère" is French for brother). "Similar contracts existed elsewhere in Mediterranean Europe. In the contract, the "brothers" pledged to live together sharing "un pain, un vin, et une bourse," (in French "one bread, one wine and one purse"). The "one purse" referred to the idea that all of the couple's goods became joint property. Like marriage contracts, the "brotherments" had to be sworn before a notary and witnesses," explained Tulchin.

"The same type of legal contract of the time also could provide the foundation for a variety of non-nuclear households, including arrangements in which two or more biological brothers inherited the family home from their parents and would continue to live together".

But non-related males also made "affrèrement" contracts that could formalize homosexual relationships. "I suspect that some of these relationships were sexual, while others may not have been. It is impossible to prove either way and probably also somewhat irrelevant to understanding their way of thinking. They loved each other, and the community accepted that.", Tulchin said.

Silent Wives - Four Times More Likely to Die! - Especially of a heart condition
By: Stefan Anitei, Science Editor - Softpedia

This is just what we needed: now they even have a scientific excuse for destroying our brains. Little by little.

Women not trying to express verbally during marital discussions seem to present a four times higher risk of dying, because this
can make them more vulnerable to depression and irritable bowel syndrome, as found by a new research.

"We don't really know why women self-silence. It may be some type of protection mechanism. Experts believe such "self- silencing" during conflict may have provided an evolutionary survival advantage long ago, but not now. Over a ten-year period, women who self-silenced were four times more likely to die than women who expressed themselves freely during marital arguments," said lead researcher Dr Elaine Eaker.

"Girls learn more 'relational forms' of aggression. Girls tell other girls, 'I won't play with you if you play with her. Boys on the other hand are taught to express their anger openly. As a result, some women are afraid of the consequences of showing anger during quarrels with their husbands. For some women, it's because of the threat of physical violence, but for others, there is a fear that if they speak up, their husbands will leave and their financial security will go out the door with them. So anger builds up and, like stress, it can damage the heart," said psychologist Dana Jack from the Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Western Washington University.

This is the first research connecting behavior, heart disease and mortality inside marriage. The research was made on 3,682 men and women, the majority aged 40 to 60 at the beginning of the 10-year study.

Also, the reverse was valid: men whose wives returned home from work stressed about their jobs were 2.7 times more vulnerable to heart disease than those whose wives had a less stressful job. It appears that a wife's work-related problems are a factor that increases their husband’s stress because he cannot "protect" her.

The study also confirmed that solitary men were two times more likely to die, compared to married men.

New Curara Poisonous Frog - Found in Colombia
By: Stefan Anitei, Science Editor - Softpedia

The newly-discovered golden frog of Supata

If you thought Brazil has the most diverse fauna in South America (and in the world), you're wrong: this title belongs to Colombia. This is also showed by the rhythm of newly discovered species in this country: now researchers have found a new poisonous frog in a remote mountainous region of Colombia.

The new species, 0.8 inches (2 cm) long and with a yellowish skin, was dubbed the "golden frog of Supatá". This frog looks like other several common species in the area, but experts at Conservation International, a nonprofit group with the goal of protecting Earth's biodiversity, revealed that the golden frog of Supatá is unique and located only within a 20-hectare area in Colombia's Cundinamarca region.

There are over 583 amphibian species in Colombia (and about 6,000 species worldwide). As this frog lives in such a small area, nothing is known about its biology, except the fact it is a poison dart frog.

These frogs are brightly colored with awesome models (aposematical coloration warning predators), they’re small (many are specialized ant eaters) and store alkaloids on their skin. Alkaloids are nitrogenous toxic substances synthesized by plants (some well known alkaloids are caffeine, nicotine, cocaine) which have a bitter taste, being lethal in various doses.

The Indians poison the tip of their arrows with this neurotoxic substance called curara, which induces a slow and nasty death by paralyzing the breathing muscles (the victim dies conscious).

"The discovery highlights how little is known about the biodiversity of Earth and how many species are left undiscovered.", signaled lead researcher Oswaldo Cortes, a graduate student at La Universidad Distrital in Colombia.

Many frog species in tropical America have likely disappeared even before their scientific description, due to the epidemic of the chytrid fungus, which has been wiping out amphibian populations all over the world.

Which Hand Do You Use? This Shows Your Mental Health! - At least in the case of the new mothers
By: Stefan Anitei, Science Editor - Softpedia

Which hand you use is more than a matter of choice. After left handedness has been discovered to be linked to a higher risk to some mental illnesses like schizophrenia, now the way a mother holds her baby has been also linked to her mental stability.
Women cradling their babies with their right arm appear to be more likely to be suffering from stress and depression than those employing their left arm.

It was long known that most parents cradle their children on their left-hand side, no matter if they are right or left-handed, but why this happens remained a puzzle.

It was linked to a child's head being closer to their mother's heart, hearing the comforting beat, while others connected this to the right half of the brain, which controls the left hand movement and which is in charge with emotions and intuition.
The new research was made on 79 mothers. They were put to pick up their babies and cradle them in their arms naturally. On the other hand, their stress level was assessed.

44 of the mothers presented baby-related stress and 32 % of them employed their right arm cradling their child. From the 35 women who reported no symptoms of stress or depression, only 14 % used their right hand.

"The findings could help better identify mothers in a fragile mental state. We have all seen pictures of Princess Diana - she always cradled to the right. However it is a tendency - not an absolute and just because a woman cradles on the right it does not mean she is stressed." said lead researcher Dr Nadja Reissland, a senior lecturer in psychiatry at Durham University.

Earlier this year, a team at the University of Basel in Switzerland put women subjects to plunge their hands into a bucket of cold water before cuddling a doll. The cold water induced a short-term stress.

The stressed women were much more likely to use their right hands compared to those who did not touch the cold water.
"Many mothers don't realize they are suffering from stress, or don't want to admit they are. The way they interact with their child is usually the best indicator of their inner mental state. These sorts of feelings can have a huge impact on the relationship between the mother and baby and on the family as a whole. If this stress develops into depression, then the situation can be even worse." added Reissland.

'Christians' that dont believe in Jesus as the Son of God; and those who don't accept the trinitarian view are not christians at all. Religions such as Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses are considered cults and heretics by the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Coptic Churches and by large protestant congregations such as the United Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran and Anglican churches.
The INC's claimed that they are christians but they dont accept the doctrine that jesus is the son of God and the dont believe the trinitarian teachings.

not all christians believe that jesus is the son of God as well as the trinitarian doctrine. The INC church has a docrtrine almost the same as Islam. Makaah and Madidah is too crowded!
