hahaha. really, so you saw it in the discovery channel eh? interesting. i guess the menstrual cycle and the LH surge affects their sexual urges in choosing scruffy looking men. i wonder why that is tho. there has to be an explanation for this.

Weird and Extreme / Re: Omphalocele

Causes

An omphalocele develops as a baby grows inside the mother's womb. The muscles in the abdominal wall (umbilical ring) do not close properly. As a result, the intestine remains outside the umbilical cord.

Approximately 25 - 40% of infants with an omphalocele have other birth defects. They may include genetic problems (chromosomal abnormalities), congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and heart defects.

Symptoms

An omphalocele can be clearly seen, because the abdominal contents stick out (protrude) through the belly button area.

There are different sizes of omphaloceles. In small ones, only the intestines stick out. In larger ones, the liver or spleen may stick out of the body as well.

Exams and Tests

Prenatal ultrasounds often identify infants with an omphalocele before birth. Otherwise, a physical examination of the infant is enough for your health care provider to diagnose this condition. Testing is usually not necessary.

Treatment

Omphaloceles are repaired with surgery, although not always immediately. A sac protects the abdominal contents and allows time for other more serious problems (such as heart defects) to be dealt with first, if necessary.

To fix an omphalocele, the sac is covered with a special man-made material, which is then stitched in place. Slowly, over time, the abdominal contents are pushed into the abdomen.

When the omphalocele can comfortably fit within the abdominal cavity, the man-made material is removed and the abdomen is closed.

Sometimes the omphalocele is so large that it cannot be placed back inside the infant's abdomen. The skin around the omphalocele grows and eventually covers the omphalocele. The abdominal muscles and skin can be repaired when the child is older to achieve a better cosmetic outcome.

An omphalocele is a birth defect in which the infant's intestine or other abdominal organs stick out of the belly button (navel). In babies with an omphalocele, the intestines are covered only by a thin layer of tissue and can be easily seen.

An omphalocele is a type of hernia.

To lodge appeal

At a news briefing in Malacañang, Mr. Aquino’s spokesperson Edwin Lacierda expressed sadness over China’s decision to proceed with the executions.

Lacierda told reporters that the Palace might “try” to lodge an appeal.

“But we have to respect the decision of Chinese authorities on the matter. It was unprecedented that they granted us a stay, and this was the first time they did it for an ally,” he said, adding:

“It was very, very clear that it was only a postponement.”

He also said the DFA would explain the latest development to the families of the three convicts.

Asked if the President would still push through with his state visit to China scheduled in May, Lacierda only confirmed that there were such plans.

He said the final details would have to be announced by the DFA or the Chinese foreign ministry. With a report from Christine O. Avendaño

The same principle applies to the beyond-rational-thinking explanations to the 'odd' things that inflict people and caused unexplainable deaths before the times when modern medicine discovered the root causes.

most of the time. pero , not all the time, WarWick. Sometimes some diseases are idiopathic (no known cause) and symptomology does not make sense.

For me, I think being able to warn people ahead of natural disasters and save lives in return is far more preferred to seeing heroic people searching for life underneath a rubble.

Prevention is indeed Ideal, but failing to search for survivors is ghastly. It's just like Medicine.

We try to prevent disease by lecturing patients. If, however the patient has a disease, we then try our best to treat the disease. If the disease is malignant and if the patient becomes terminal (because of the disease), then we give palliative care/ and eventually end-of-life care. We never give up.

So should the rescuers do the same. Never give up.

that's the spirit, Bro. that's the spirit!

Yes, it is very hard sometimes, in fact, all of the time. Having to deal with our own (my own) innate weaknesses and failings as a man (sinful as we are; i am) but all the while trying and doing His Will.

The problem here, that i've known and realize--and come to realize that is, that it is hard at times to do what is pleasing to God. the world is always going to be throwing obstacles and opportunities for us to 'slip up' on recognizing what is right and godly.

But as what St. Paul tells us-- it is important that we all (as spiritual christian siblings) support one another as we live this journey (pilgrimage of life).

Nothing in this life that is worth it will ever be easy. We just have to pray. When we fail, we pray. When we slip up, we pray. And when we do get to succeed in some things (for the right reasons, i hope), we pray aslo (to give thanks).

~~

Brod Vince, it is hard, this life we live. But we are confident and must be confident in knowing that Christ Jesus strengthens us along the way.
Despite our failures and our innate weaknesses.

:D

The floral offering was headed by Consul General Blesila C. Con. Gen. Cabrera and Sir Boni Cenir, KGOR both emphasized on the ideals of the Dr. Jose Rizal to be our guide in teaching the youth for a better Philippines. science explains that plate tectonics causes earthquakes and tsunamis are an almost, most of the time that is, complementary addition. the damage to the local environment , depending on the population and fauna, will vary (with those more populous suffering).

then there is the spiritual aspect that tries to make sense of it all.

my advice: Pray.

There is no harm in prayer. the benefits are endless..  :)

St. Paul talks to us about contentment, and to know the difference between :

1. God's kind of contentment

and

2. the world's kind of contentment

---

10 But I rejoice in the Lord greatly, that now at length you have revived your thought for me; in which you did indeed take thought, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in respect to lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. 12 I know how to be humbled, and I know also how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. 13 I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. 14 However, you did well that you shared in my affliction.

Philippians 4:10-14

---

From the world’s perspective, contentment is almost always something that comes in the future. But the contentment God wants to give us is for the past, present, and future. It’s not for just the good times but the bad also. God’s contentment brings us happiness and peace in any situation. The world’s contentment only happens when everything’s turning up roses.

i will address the scientific (seismological) aspect: Japan lies in the Ring of Fire, which embodies the intensity of tectonic plate shifting , resulting in earthquakes , which in turn generates tsunamis. the japanese have constantly been hurled with tsunamis and earthquakes throughout its history. the problem here, is that , the area of interest has a nuclear reactor in imminent phases.

by contrast, the damage seen in japan pales in comparison to the tsunami that devastated Banda Aceh, Indonesia back in 2004, with casualties mounting over 167,000 (out of a population of 219,000).

On 4 June 1942, he led the morning attack on the U.S. base at Midway, and the afternoon torpedo attack on USS Yorktown (CV-5). He was killed in action during the latter attack, which succeeded in hitting the U.S. carrier with two torpedoes, causing her abandonment.

I really am touched by Dra. Yap's vision and pluralist viewpoint. She went back to Philippines, despite practicing as a Medical Doctor in Chicago (and enjoying the bounties of the lifestyle that such a profession entails in this city...). She gave back to the people. To the city of Tagbilaran.

It reminds me of Jumpa Lahiri's book , " Unaccustomed Earth " , in which a familial entity (an Indian family) went back to India after their immigration to Boston, MA in 1972. When many foreigners were coming to America to find a better future, the family moved back to India to give back to their family.

I find Dra. Yap's actions and selfless action as basis for such acknowledgement from medical peers. I am proud to say that I am very honored to see such action that she has done and as a result, led to the benefit of Boholanos. To be able to share her American-trained skills to the people.

I really am brought to smile in reading this article and the pictures that you also provided, dra.

Thirty five years ago today, the Englewood Hospital in Bool district, this city, has gone a long way in terms of health care and wellness services. Built in 1976, the foreign-sounding medical facility indeed got its name from a hospital in Chicago where Dr. Lucy Yap-Evangelista, used to work as a medical practitioner.

Dra. Yap-Evangelista did a great job opening this hospital. Englewood Hospital is not too far away from University of Chicago Medical Center. How very interesting!
