anyway, update on UCLA girl, She is reported to be quiting school because she has been recieving death threats....

I can't believe she was getting death threats. I guess this tells us that the right of 'free speech' should be limited to saying things that are not outright vindictive and nefarious. Especially when outright saying derogatory / libelous things.

In the end, a personal attack is a personal attack , not a form of free speech. In this regard, this girl was guilty and at fault. As the saying goes, one reaps what one sows.

I hope she takes the time to reflect on what she did and the damage done (to an entire ethnic group and to herself).

I do wish her the best and that the UCLA community can eventually learn to forgive her , and to put this to an end. But to never forget.

Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

God Does Not Tempt Anyone

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.

Akong pinaka pinanggang Lolo. Si Lolo Ciano.

The last time Lolo came to visit us in America was 2003 till 2005. The first thing that we both did as soon as our eyes met each others'
was cry. I saw him in the airport with my mother and as soon as I saw him my eyes welled with tears. After giving him the mano Po, i then
embraced him. When he left for Bohol in October 2005 , i was left with such yearning for him. My Lolo Ciano.

I was able to see him again this Summer 2010. The first day. I arrived in Bohol, i opted to drive to Valencia after visiting some of my family in
Tagbilaran (my father's side).

As our ride reached the gates of Valencia, my heart was filled with so much memories of my childhood. I had not been in Valencia since 1998.
12 years of absence. In many ways, nothing changed, but in many ways, many things changed. Emotionally and sentimentally speaking, Valencia
was still there, still my sweet home sweet home.

As I entered the Salvo residence in Poblaccion Occidental, i was met with my long-time yaya, Arsing. She being so much shorter than I. Her smile
covered her face, as so did mine. We embraced. She kissed both of my cheeks. After wards gi kusi ahong aping. Sakita!

:)

As I entered further, I could hear my Lolo's caretaker say, "Nong Ciano, ning balik si Bran Bran!"

And then. As if my memories of old flooded my mind again, I heard his voice, "Si Bran Bran? Asa man ahong apo?"

I entered the house. There he was in his wheelchair. Dressed up as always. With his khakis and polo shirt (my mother always sends balikbayan boxes for him at least ever 2-3 months). He donned his favorite Tommy Hilfiger cologne. His face shaved. His eyes widened as he saw me. Both our eyes met.

"Ondoy...I have been waiting for you!"

I could not even respond. I broke down in tears. Lolo. I missed him so darn much.

His arms around me and his musky cologne scent brought me back to my childhood memories. Just as he used to hold me and carry me when he used to pick me up from Tagbilaran and drive us back to Valencia.

Valencia is home to me because of my Lolo Ciano.

my lolo and i,

Weekends At Lolo and Lola's House.

On weekends my Lolo Ciano would drive to Tagbilaran to pick us up and drive us back to Valencia. Always.
Every weekend kua-on mi sa among Lolo ug Lola. We would ride in my Lolo's Truck "Salvo Lines" :)

Every weekend we would swim in the beach behind our house in Sawang. Lolo and Lola would take my me with my cousins
and make sure that we always had time to spend with each other. I can remember Lolo, Lola, Ako, Angel, Joseph, Forlyn,
Christian.

Talking about my grandparents , i cant help but get sentimental as i miss them so much.

At night time i would opt to sleep with my grandparents (because they had an AC in their room) hehe.
Ingon ko ni Lola, "Lola, mo dug ko nimo ug lolo ha?"

Ingon sija nako, "oy , dali ondoy bran bran!"

I would always fall asleep next to her, as she combed my hair ,
singing Chinese lullabies for me. As she rubbed my back to sleep.

I miss them so much.  :'(

I remember Dr. Guido Lim , another good friend of my grandparents. And Dr. Plinio Lim (the father of my maninay). I had the honor of meeting Dr. Plinio Lim again this past Summer 2010 during the birthday party of my Tito Jan Palaca. Interesting how everyone knows everyone in Valencia.

He (Dr. Plinio Lim) told me of his memories of my Lola Nating. He said to me, "Your Lola , when she was younger, was very very beautiful! Pure Chinese Beauty. Pure Chinese Beauty kaayo!" :)

He remembered my great-grandfather, the late Mr. Mariano Tan. He remembered the time kono that it was my great grandfather who carried the bells of the Valencia Church to the bell tower. He shared more memorable information of my family. I absorbed everything.

I love how in Valencia, everyone knows everyone and everybody. Also i found out that Dr. Plinio Lim was a former mayor of Valencia as well. :)
#23261
the late Mayor Pablo Lim. I remember , in my youth, this man used to come to my maternal grandparent's house in Sawang, Valencia. Pablo, or otherwise known and called by my Lola Nating as "Pabling", was very good friends with my Lola Nating. Their similar Chinese background was always a common bond.

I remember whenever he came to our house he would always have his paypay with him. He used to call my Lola as "Nating La!" "Nating La!"  :)

I remember when he came to our house, he pinched my cheek really hard. He always had a big smile.

Quote from: alycxs on March 19, 2011, 05:50:40 AM
Firstly, I think we should address the issue of safety and security. Tourists need the peace of mind that if they wander around after dark, there is a close to none possibility of something bad happening to them. Case in point, I myself am married to a person of another race. There are a lot of places in Bohol and the Philippines at large that I would not feel safe for my husband to be out and about wandering with me. Even my parents advise me against it. I take that to heart because they know more about the current situation that I do.

If the crime rate was lower and there are stricter punishment for even petty crimes, I think Bohol would be more attractive to tourists. What good are beautiful places if you risk life, limb and money ? Think about it, I'm sure there are pretty places in Libya but I don't think people are clamoring to go there because of the political situation.

2.) Cleanliness - Sometimes we are pretty good about it and sometimes not. There were times when I visited and I can feel proud about Tagbilaran, and other times...well, it gets pretty bad. Plastic bags flying all over the place and stink like you wouldn't believe around the city center. It would be nice if it would be pretty consistent on the cleanliness part. :-)

3.) Roads and Infrastructure - We have so many beautiful sights, sounds and things to experience around the island. When my in-laws were in Bohol in 2004, I wanted to take them to see all of them. Unfortunately, the land travel alone was exhausting. Despite the fact that we were in an SUV with pretty good shock absorbers, It was still bumpy. How can our tourists really enjoy our sights and tourists spots if they are exhausted before they even get there ? If they are nice, energetic and happy, they would spend our money. That would spell more income to those tourist spots and the souvenir vendors and even the food vendors too.

4.) CLEAN Bathrooms and Rest Areas -  Ahhh....the call of Nature. Pretty self explanatory.

5.) VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, AMEX - It may cost businesses a processing fee but in the end, places that will accept more flexible forms of payment get more income. In 2006, my close childhood friends and I went to Tawala, in the Alona beaches for just a hang-out night. It was my treat. Unfortunately for me, I underestimated how much things cost and didn't bring enough cash. Well, long story short, we found a bar/resto that accepted my visa debit card and that place made a good chunk of change feeding and serving us girly drinks that night. :-P

6.) Reasonable Island Tour Packages - Just because we're catering to tourists, doesn't mean we have to suck them dry. We want them to come back and bring their friends with them too. If we present a great value for the a really low price, we can even boost our local tourism and keep our foreign tourists coming back. Case in point, if it costs $100/pax for a 3 day Bohol tour and thesame for a 3 day Hong Kong tour....hmmmm....do you think most foreign tourists would go back to Bohol or just not make the extra flight and stay in Hong Kong ? (You know, bigger city, bigger airport, more things to see...etc etc etc ).... I know for a fact that in 2010, Hollywood Day tour including lunch was $65, thesame day tour around Bohol cost $80. I think I can safely say for a lot of people, touring Hollywood has so much more history and things to see vs our little island, as beautiful as it may be.

7.) Food and Grub - My mother-in-law ordered Spaghetti Marinara for dinner in Bohol Tropics back in 2004. To her surprise, her spaghetti came with squids and shrimps and other unidentifiable seafood-like objects. I can't help but laugh..."Marinara" kinda like "marine" ? LOL. For a first time asian traveller like her ( She's Canadian but has lived in the US most of her life), It didn't seem so funny. She was hungry and ordered the safest food, SHE THOUGHT, was on the menu. Some pasta with tomato sauce and cheese. Afterall, Marinara sauce is almost plain tomato sauce with some spices.  Things have gotten better since then, though. Garden Cafe is always a  good choice, but we need more places like it. Jjs, Payag, Bohol Tropics, Mira Villa, to name a few, have really awesome food...but for the most part, our foreign tourists need a guide to navigate the menu sometimes.

8.) Boat tours/Island Hopping (just bohol) Tours - same as number 6. Reasonable prices. Also should be safe. :-)

Welcome back!!

Nice post.

Edematous kaajo.

Very sensitive kaayo ning african american population, because they react differently to chf / hypertension medication.

normally i would prescribe my patients (hypertensive patients) : Ace inhibs (Lisinipril, Captopril), ARBS (losartan).

however, for African americans, they do not do well with Aceinhibs. They do really well with : CCBs, and Diuretics (Hydrocholorthiazide).

Note: importante jud i monitor ilang uric acid levels when they're on HCT; kai mag hyperuricemic cases; gouty attack.

I'd like to add something that i saw today (and was saddened by):

21 year old african american female comes in to the ER after failing to meet her dialysis appointment. Patient's history indicates that she has CHF (chronic heart failure), CRF (chronic renal failure) , both of which are secondary to her untreated hypertension. The patient came in because she was suffering from asthma. What drug would she be given if she suffered an acute asthma attack?

A: Albuterol

OT: I was really saddened today to see such a young person who has yet to live life already dying. Only 21 years old and already CHF and CRF.   :-\

for the first 5 minutes, this patient did not talk to me. i came to her bed to take her H&P pero she would not talk. luoy kaayo. i told her that her failure to take her anti-hypertension pills and chf pills are hurting her. she is so young. she looked at me today after i said to her, "you are still very young, so very young.  you can still enjoy your life , but you have to protect your life..."

ingon sija nako, "i dont want to die...i just dont want to die.."

luoy kaayo. its kind of hard sometimes when dealing with cases like this. after finishing her history, i let the nurse continue the dialysis.

As the lyrics of the song, Lord of Lords by Hillsong goes:

Keep my eyes fixed ever on Jesus face,
Let not the things of this world ever sway me,
I'll run 'til I finish the race. ;D

you like that song diay, bro? hehehe

i remember during my 1st Medical Anatomy Exam.

We had to locate all the 12 nerves and then name them.

I started to name the nerves (but i said the mnemonic first!). My proctor's eyes got wide after hearing me. Bwahahahaha!

good times. good times.

hormones... when we have more estrogen we go for the more masculine type. and at our time of ovulation, women also tend to be more attractive in the eyes of men rather than the other days of our cycle. it also changes the quality of our voice, etc. we are just not aware of this changes.

Thank You for that excellent explanation. You are right, about men knowing when a woman is ovulating. A woman also becomes more sexually active during time of ovulation, just from my own observation.

Women also emit pheromones during ovulation that men are reactive to , tho they are oblivious to it.
