The 88-year-old Amorth, whom the Times called the church's "leading exorcist," said he performed up to 20 exorcisms a day at his peak but has cut back to four a day. The priest said he was inspired to seek the pope's ear when he viewed the pontiff's alleged exorcism of a child after a recent Mass in St. Peter's Square.

According to a TV channel run by Italian bishops, video of the pontiff laying his hands on a disabled young man's head represented an attempt to rid him of the devil.

A Catholic priest claims to have performed more than 160,000 exorcisms.

Now Father Gabriele Amorth wants help from his boss to banish the demons, so he's asking Pope Francis to bestow exorcism privileges to every priest with proper training, The Sunday Times of London reports.

"There's a huge demand," Amorth told the newspaper.

How to Counteract the “Middle Child Syndrome”

While you may not be able to totally negate the effect of the “Middle Child Syndrome,” you can take certain measures to try and help your middle child feel like an important member of your family. You should have special date nights with each of your children, but this may be especially important for your middle child. When having family discussions, you should also make a special effort to listen to and include your middle child’s opinion. Finally, make sure each of your children know how special and unique they are. Instilling a good self-worth can serve them well as they enter adulthood.

The Exceptions

There are a few exceptions to the effect of being a middle child. The first exception is gender. If your middle child is a different gender than the older and younger siblings, the “Middle Child Syndrome” does not typically affect them at all. The reasoning behind this is that when children are of a different gender, they are treated almost like a firstborn, because they have many different characteristics and activities, which will be “firsts” for a family (for example, the first dance recital). Another factor making an exception to the “Middle Child Syndrome” is if the middle child has any type of disability.

Personality

According to these studies, middle children tend to be more outgoing and flexible than their older and younger siblings. One theory about this is that a middle child learns early on that they need to be vocal in order to be heard among their other siblings, as well as being flexible, as they are often carted around to older siblings’ activities and on hold for a younger child’s needs.

Middle children tend to be “rebels,” more so than their other siblings. A good example of this rebel personality is Charles Darwin, who was a middle child.

Emotional Impact

Dr. Alfred Adler, an Austrian psychoanalyst, first brought the effect of birth order to light. He suggested that birth order has a strong affect on a child’s character. Dr. Adler was a middle child himself.

Middle children often feel left out and invisible, a contrast from their older and younger siblings. While older children get the benefits of all of the “firsts” a child accomplishes, younger children benefit from the emotional impact of being the baby of the family, often being spoiled and coddled. Middle children, however, often feel as though they have nothing special that is just “theirs.”

Some studies suggest that middle children are also more prone to depression and typically have stronger immune systems than their older siblings.

When planning your family, it is important to consider how the birth order will impact your children’s emotions and personality, as well as your family’s dynamics. There is a phenomenon often talked about, called the “Middle Child Syndrome,” which helps explain how birth order affects every aspect of a child’s life. Wondering what your middle child may be experiencing, or how to possibly counteract any negativity caused from being a middle child? Here is some information to help!

"I assured her, 'Yes, Oprah, I can handle them. My spirit is made of titanium. I will not break,'" she said.

Although another celebrity, Barbra Streisand, who is her friend, advised Charice that she does not owe anybody any explanation, the young Filipina singer ended all speculations about her gender preference with the interview with her godfather.
#23010
Charice belied reports that her career is on a downhill because of her new masculine look. She said she will have shows in Indonesia and Germany and will return to Los Angeles in June for recording commitments.

She continues to remain in contact with another famous lesbian and her official discoverer, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey, who managed her career for a while.  Oprah advised Charice to keep her cool and not be affected by bashers.
#23011
More than just food, her international career has benefited the Pempengco family immensely that Charice bough a brand new silver BMW on Saturday which she named Captain. She paid for the vehicle in full cash, a stark contrast at the start of her career when her family lived in a rented house in Laguna with no furniture.

Despite her admission of being a lesbian, Charice assured her fans called Chasters that she is the same person with just a new loo. "My voice remains the same," she added.
#23012
The article ended speculations that Charice would admit her sexuality, triggered by a hint made by her mother, Raquel, earlier this month. In an interview with ABS-CBN, Raquel said she would accept her daughter's preferences even if she finds her physical appearance difficult to get used to.

Her masculine appearance earned Charice bashers, whom she dismissed.

"When I was young and our family hardly has anything to eat, there were already people who were looking down on me ... Now, even if they continue to bash me, me and my family still have food on the table," she said, quoted by Pep.ph.
#23013
Tenorio said he spoke to his goddaughter on May 10 during a celebration of her 21st birthday at a resort in Laguna Province. He said the party doubled as a debut for Charice as well as her coming out.

The Pyramid singer was quoted as saying that she is as free as a bird now that she no longer has to hide her sexual preference. "I'm able to express myself better now. I have come to accept the real me. I now celebrate the real me."

The much-awaited public outing of international singer Charice Pempengco as a lesbian finally happened. It came through an article that was published in Philippine Star on Tuesday, May 28.

The article, written by columnist Bum Tenorio Jr, her baptismal godfather. It was titled "You're the man, Charice!," squarely addressing the questions over the 21-year-old singer's masculine appearance and gender preference.

It may be one of the greatest ironies of the Christian scriptures that some of them insist on truth, while telling a lie. For no author is truth more important than for the "Paul" of Ephesians. He refers to the gospel as "the word of truth" (1:13); he indicates that the "truth is in Jesus"; he tells his readers to "speak the truth" to their neighbors (4:24-25); and he instructs his readers to "fasten the belt of truth around your waist" (6:14). And yet he himself lied about who he was. He was not really Paul.

It appears that some of the New Testament writers, such as the authors of 2 Peter, 1 Timothy and Ephesians, felt they were perfectly justified to lie in order to tell the truth. But we today can at least evaluate their claims and realize just how human, and fallible, they were. They were creatures of their time and place. And so too were their teachings, lies and all.

Largely on the basis of this passage, the apostle Paul has been branded, by more liberation minded people of recent generations, as one of history's great misogynists. The problem, of course, is that Paul never said any such thing. And why does it matter? Because the passage is still used by church leaders today to oppress and silence women. Why are there no women priests in the Catholic Church? Why are women not allowed to preach in conservative evangelical churches? Why are there churches today that do not allow women even to speak? In no small measure it is because Paul allegedly taught that women had to be silent, submissive and pregnant. Except that the person who taught this was not Paul, but someone lying about his identity so that his readers would think he was Paul.
#23018
This may all seem like a bit of antiquarian curiosity, especially for people whose lives don't depend on the Bible or even people of faith for whom biblical matters are a peripheral interest at best. But in fact, it matters sometimes. Whoever wrote the book of 1 Timothy claimed to be Paul. But he was lying about that -- he was someone else living after Paul had died. In his book, the author of 1 Timothy used Paul's name and authority to address a problem that he saw in the church. Women were speaking out, exercising authority and teaching men. That had to stop. The author told women to be silent and submissive, and reminded his readers about what happened the first time a woman was allowed to exercise authority over a man, in that little incident in the garden of Eden. No, the author argued, if women wanted to be saved, they were to have babies (1 Tim. 2:11-15).
#23019
And that's what such writings are. Whoever wrote the New Testament book of 2 Peter claimed to be Peter. But scholars everywhere -- except for our friends among the fundamentalists -- will tell you that there is no way on God's green earth that Peter wrote the book. Someone else wrote it claiming to be Peter. Scholars may also tell you that it was an acceptable practice in the ancient world for someone to write a book in the name of someone else. But that is where they are wrong. If you look at what ancient people actually said about the practice, you'll see that they invariably called it lying and condemned it as a deceitful practice, even in Christian circles. 2 Peter was finally accepted into the New Testament because the church fathers, centuries later, were convinced that Peter wrote it. But he didn't. Someone else did. And that someone else lied about his identity.

The same is true of many of the letters allegedly written by Paul. Most scholars will tell you that whereas seven of the 13 letters that go under Paul's name are his, the other six are not. Their authors merely claimed to be Paul. In the ancient world, books like that were labeled as pseudoi -- lies.
#23020
Most modern scholars of the Bible shy away from these terms, and for understandable reasons, some having to do with their clientele. Teaching in Christian seminaries, or to largely Christian undergraduate populations, who wants to denigrate the cherished texts of Scripture by calling them forgeries built on lies? And so scholars use a different term for this phenomenon and call such books "pseudepigrapha."

You will find this antiseptic term throughout the writings of modern scholars of the Bible. It's the term used in university classes on the New Testament, and in seminary courses, and in Ph.D. seminars. What the people who use the term do not tell you is that it literally means "writing that is inscribed with a lie."
#23021
By Bart D. Ehrman

Apart from the most rabid fundamentalists among us, nearly everyone admits that the Bible might contain errors -- a faulty creation story here, a historical mistake there, a contradiction or two in some other place. But is it possible that the problem is worse than that -- that the Bible actually contains lies?

Most people wouldn't put it that way, since the Bible is, after all, sacred Scripture for millions on our planet. But good Christian scholars of the Bible, including the top Protestant and Catholic scholars of America, will tell you that the Bible is full of lies, even if they refuse to use the term. And here is the truth: Many of the books of the New Testament were written by people who lied about their identity, claiming to be a famous apostle -- Peter, Paul or James -- knowing full well they were someone else. In modern parlance, that is a lie, and a book written by someone who lies about his identity is a forgery.

So far, there are now two candidates of Filipino descent in the most prestigious beauty contest this year. 2013 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Ariella Arida, 23, of Alaminos, Laguna, will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe contest. Both Santos and Arida are 5’7 tall. As of May 29, 2013, 37 international beauties have been selected for the 62nd edition of the pageant.

Santos first gained fame in the Philippines when she competed in the 2006 Miss Earth beauty contest, in which she won Miss Photogenic and Miss Fontana, a corporate special award. A year later, she participated in the “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2“ aired over ABS-CBN and won second place. Santos, who was once linked to actor Jake Cuenca, also appeared in local films, including “Dobol Trobol“ opposite the late Comedy King Dolphy and Vic Sotto. She also hosted the Asian Poker Tour in 2008 and 2009.

The parents of Santos are from Bulacan and Bataan in the Philippines. But Santos was raised in Canada. Santos studied Biological Science at the University of Calgary. She is studying engineering at the University of Calgary’s Schulich School on Engineering and is working as an engineering student at the Provident Energy Ltd. in Environment Health and Safety. -- http://www.tempo.com.ph/

But 24 hours after Garrido was proclaimed winner, it turned out that the actual winner was Santos. And Garrido only placed fourth, “The Huffington Post“ reported. Organizers attributed the mistake to “human error“ and apologized for the flub.

“During the validation of the computerized scoring results (which occurs the following day), a typo was discovered in the top 5 entries, which significantly impacted the final results of the competition… Miss Garrido’s example and grace represent all we look for at Miss Universe Canada. We have no doubt she will continue to succeed in her endeavors and we wish her well. We truly hope she remains a strong part of the Miss Universe Canada Organization,“ organizers said, in a statement.

FILIPINOS will cheer for two candidates of local ancestry, one of them half-Canadian, in the 2013 Miss Universe beauty pageant to be staged later this year, following her controversial win in a beauty contest in Canada last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Rizza Racquel Santos, 26, of Calgary, earlier finished first-runner up in the 2013 Miss Universe Canada beauty pageant, after she was edged out by another heavy favorite Dennis Garrido, of Ontario, in the field of 57 candidates. Santos and Garrido are top favorites for the Miss Canada Universe crown, with huge following in their country, based on their achievements in local and international beauty contests.

A shocked wife stayed from where she was and just cried. It took a while before she asked for help from her daughter who was occupying their house in the same village.

Senior Insp. Aron Palomo, Pototan Police chief, said that while the bolo did not hit a vital organ, Angelito could have died from severe loss of blood.

Palomo said that the incident took place at around 8:45 p.m. but the call for police assistance was placed almost two hours later. “We called for an ambulance and brought the victim to the hospital but he expired,” he added.

It was gathered that the family had no plans of filing charges against the suspect. Palomo also attested that the slain Angelito was tagged in a murder case in the town. (FREEMAN)

ILOILO CITY, Philippines â€" A mother of ten allegedly killed her drunken husband after enduring years of beatings from the latter.

The 53-year-old woman, said it was not her intension to kill her husband, 63-year-old Angelito Bayog, following another violent confrontation Wednesday evening while at their farm house at Brgy. Iwa Ilaya in Pototan town of Iloilo.

She told police investigators that Angelito, who came from a fiesta, went home drunk, as usual, and then confronted her over petty things, which shortly after led him to attack her violently.

At first, Angelito kicked his wife, and this got worse when he took a sugarcane bolo and lunged at her several times but missed. Trembling with fear, Lina ran and got a bolo herself and hacked Angelito on the knee.

One of the topics I handle in gender sensitivity seminars is “Indicators of Sexism”. This discusses the various manifestations of sexism and how it can be detected by women. We teach women to analyze and determine sexist actions and words in ordinary situations they face.

Surely, people will agree that abuses such as rape and physical violence are wrong. However, many other forms of sexism are not as obvious. They are so subtle that often, are difficult to detect. Included here are sexist jokes.

Interestingly, “sexual innuendo” and “denigration through humor” are two of the indicators of sexism I teach women about. A perfect example is the Vice Ganda spiel on Jessica Soho.

No, I do not wish to bash Vice Ganda but the spiel he delivered was sexist. So was the episode “Reyp-reypan” in the show Bubble Gang in Jessica’s network. So are many other shows that continue to promote stereotypes of women. Sexism in our culture is so well-ingrained. Sexism in media is, too. The Vice Ganda incident is just one of many.

I believe that we should learn from this issue. The media should have the sensitivities needed to come up with politically correct programs. Celebrities should be mindful of the implications of what they say. And, the public, particularly women should demand gender-fair programming and shows from media.

We should not laugh at sexist jokes. They are not funny.
#23038
In contrast, have you heard many sexually-loaded jokes about men and their bodies?

This is one time when “acceptability” cannot, and should not be equated with being correct. To be more precise, they cannot be considered as politically correct.

If people are looking for context, the bigger context of the VG and similar jokes is sexism.

Sexism is defined as a mindset that considers one sex as superior to the other and results in discrimination against, or abuse of the “weaker” sex.

The sexism we encounter day in and day out is patriarchyâ€"an ideology that treats men as superior and women as the weaker sex. This is machismo.

The Vice Ganda-Jessica Soho incident is a manifestation of how well and alive sexism is in our culture. If someone like Jessica, a well-known, well-respected personality who holds a very responsible position in one of the leading television networks in the country can be subjected to such ridicule, imagine the kinds of sexist “jokes” and remarks faced by ordinary women.

I disagree with Jessica’s statement that this is not about her but the women who are victimized by rape and abused twice over because of such sexist jokes. This is about her all right, AND all other women who, as a class, are regarded as inferior to men by virtue of sex.

People laughing at these jokes is proof that sexism is a mindset. It is very deeply rooted in our consciousness that we are not offended. Rather, we find such ridicule of women as funny. We believe these are acceptable. And this is a big problem.
#23039
Fat is a feminist issue. Why? Because society expects women to be sexy, to have the body of a Barbie doll, or a movie star. This is the “desirable” woman. Thus, those of us who are very different are considered an aberration, funny, worth laughing at.

So, Jessica’s being a “bold star” was “funny” because she does not have the requisite sexy body. She was even compared to a roasted pig because of her weight. The line about rape was “funny” because going by the stereotype, hers is not a desirable, “rape-able” body. It is ridiculous to think that a woman her size will be the object of sexual desire. Thus, it was “funny.”

When people laugh at such jokes, they actually laugh at us, women. Such jokes not only reinforce stereotypes of the “desirable” woman but also “punishes” those who do not fit the mold. These jokes try to put women in their “right” place.
#23040
Not a few implied that jokes about being fat are generally acceptable. These make them laugh. They are funny. I agree, many accept these as “normal” because it happens all the time, even among friends.

However, has anyone noticed that such jokes are mostly about us, women? Our bodies are made the butt of these jokes. Some, outright, ridiculing our bodies, us. How many times have we heard women’s breasts jokingly compared to papayas, prunes, etc.?

Also, have people observed that most of these jokes have sexual undertones? They make fun of our “desirability” or “undesirability”. Sexy women are the object of sexual fantasies while those who are not are directly or indirectly ridiculedâ€"using humor.

In Jessica’s case, the joke was about her weight.

Heads should be cooler by now. Passionate and partisan exchanges on the Vice Ganda “joke” issue have died down. VG has apologized and Jessica Soho has issued her statement. Everyone ought to have sobered. Perhaps, it is time to reflect on the issue. The ISSUE because as far as I’m concerned, the personalities involved are incidental.

At the height of the controversy, some people called for context. Some argued that it was not really a “rape joke” but one on weight. According to them, rape was just mentioned in passing and in connection with being heavy or overweight.

But even if so, such context does not make the joke any less crass. On the contrary, I contend that it made it doubly sexist.

Photos Unlimited / Re: King Vulture
June 01, 2013, 07:14:55 AM
The King Vulture eats anything from cattle carcasses to beached fish and dead lizards. In forests, it is likely to eat sloth. Principally a carrion eater, there are isolated reports of it eating injured animals, newborn calves and small lizards.

Although it locates food by vision, the role smell has in how it specifically finds carrion has been debated. Consensus has been that it does not detect odours, and instead follows the smaller Turkey and Greater Yellow-headed Vultures, which do have a sense of smell, to a carcass, but a 1991 study demonstrated that the King Vulture could find carrion in the forest without the aid of other vultures, suggesting that it locates food using an olfactory sense. The King Vulture primarily eats carrion found in the forest, though it is known to venture onto nearby savannas in search of food. Once it has found a carcass, the King Vulture displaces the other vultures because of its large size and strong bill. However, when it is at the same kill as the larger Andean Condor, the King Vulture always defers to it. Using its bill to tear, it makes the initial cut in a fresh carcass. This allows the smaller, weaker-beaked vultures, which can not open the hide of a carcass, access to the carcass after the King Vulture has fed. The vulture’s tongue is rasp-like, which allows it to pull flesh off of the carcass’s bones. Generally, it only eats the skin and harder parts of the tissue of its meal. -- http://en.wikipedia.org/

Living up to its title, Sarcoramphus papa is one of the largest of all true vultures, by far the most extravagantly colored, and dominates over all carrion birds but the even larger Andean Condor. Though it usually lives alone, it will follow flocks of other, smaller vulture species to more easily locate food, and these vultures in turn often depend upon the “king’s” stronger beak to make the first tear in a large, tough carcass. Preferring to eat the skin, cartilage and other tough tissues, it leaves much of the meat and entrails to the lesser subjects. -- http://listverse.com/

LGU Philippines / 2016 race has started
June 01, 2013, 06:53:14 AM
IN SEARCH FOR TRUTH By Ernesto M. Maceda (The Philippine Star) | Updated June 1, 2013 - 12:00am

The race for the 2016 Presidential Contest has started. Global Source, a New York-based think tank has shortlisted Vice President Jojo Binay, DILG Sec. Mar Roxas (LP), Grace   Poe (Team Pinoy), Alan Peter Cayetano (NP), and Chiz Escudero (Independent) as potential presidential candidates.

President Aquino has already predicted that his anointed will win the election.

With his extensive public service background and with the highest trust rating, Vice President Jojo Binay is still the front runner with Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada as potential running mate. The top five finish of Nancy Binay confirms the VP’s big following. DILG Sec. Mar Roxas has a lock on the LP nomination with Chiz Escudero as probable running mate. Topnotcher Grace Poe is a darkhorse but it all depends on her performance in the Senate for the next 2 years.

The Nacionalista Party (NP) now with 5 Senators will compete in 2016 with an attractive team up of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Bongbong Marcos. Lakas-NUCD is still in contention with the reelection of President Gloria M. Arroyo and a viable candidate in the person of Sen. Bong Revilla who topped the 2010 senatorial race.

Foie gras (i/ËŒfwÉ'ːˈɡrÉ'ː/; French: [fwa ɡʁÉ']); French for "fat liver") is a food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened. By French law, foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck fattened by force feeding corn with a gavage, although outside of France it is occasionally produced using natural feeding. A pastry containing pâté de foie gras and bacon, or pâté de foie gras tout court, was formerly known as "Strasbourg pie" (or "Strasburg pie") in English on account of that city's being a major producer of foie gras. --Wiki

Fatty liver, also known as fatty liver disease (FLD), is a reversible condition where large vacuoles of triglyceride fat accumulate in liver cells via the process of steatosis (i.e. abnormal retention of lipids within a cell). Despite having multiple causes, fatty liver can be considered a single disease that occurs worldwide in those with excessive alcohol intake and those who are obese (with or without effects of insulin resistance). The condition is also associated with other diseases that influence fat metabolism. Morphologically, it is difficult to distinguish alcoholic FLD from nonalcoholic FLD, and both show microvesicular and macrovesicular fatty changes at different stages.

Eating a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet that contains at least five servings of fruit and vegetables a day is also important, since most of the body's daily fluid intake comes from what we eat. If you find that you're extremely thirsty, not eating a healthy diet, or feeling dehydrated, drink cold water rather than hot water. According to Southern Cross Health Insurance, the body absorbs cold water more quickly. -- http://www.ehow.com/

Caffeinated and Alcoholic Beverages

While caffeinated and alcoholic beverages are liquid, they don't necessarily quench the thirst. This is because products such as soda, coffee and beer cause the body to become dehydrated. These beverages actually hasten the body's elimination of fluids. When this occurs, mild symptoms of dehydration are experienced, including heartburn, stomachache, lower back pain, headaches and depression.

How Much Water Should People Drink per Day?

Most people live in a state of dehydration and don't even know it, according to NaturoDoc.com. However, if people follow the general recommendation to consume eight to ten glasses of water a day, they can stay properly hydrated. This water intake should be spread throughout the day so there isn't the constant urge to head to the bathroom.

What Happens if You Don't Drink Enough Water?

The body cannot survive without water. Water consumption helps the body breathe, because it moistens the lungs. Lung functions can use up to a pint of water every day, decreasing the body's moisture through exhalation. When that liquid isn't replaced, it makes it difficult to breathe. People who don't drink enough fluids can also gain excess body fat, have poor muscle tone and a decreased ability to digest food.

Symptoms of Dehydration

When a person stops drinking water or doesn't drink enough, they can become dehydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include dry and sticky mouth, sunken eyes, not producing enough tears, little to no urine output and lethargy, according to the National Institutes of Health. People who don't drink enough water may also develop low blood pressure and a rapid heart rate.

The human body is 60 to 70 percent water. When a person doesn't drink enough water, it can have negative effects on the body and the way it operates. Not drinking enough water affects your health. According to NaturoDoc.com, humans can survive without food for a whopping two months, but can only go without water for a few days before bodily functions are compromised. Among other things, water flushes out toxins in the body and keeps essential organs moist so they can function.

5. Total breathing

When you reach a more advanced stage, you can try to feel that your breath is coming in and going out through every part of your body â€" through your heart, through your eyes, through your nose and even through your pores. Right now you can breathe only through your nose or your mouth, but a time will come when you will be able to breathe through every part of your body. Spiritual Masters can breathe even with their nose and mouth closed. When you have perfected this spiritual breathing, all your impurity and ignorance will be replaced by God’s light, peace and power. --Sri Chinmoy

4. Cosmic energy

Feel that you are breathing in not air but cosmic energy. Feel that tremendous cosmic energy is entering into you with each breath, and that you are going to use it to purify your body, vital, mind and heart. Feel that there is not a single place in your being that is not being occupied by the flow of cosmic energy. It is flowing like a river inside you, washing and purifying your entire being. Then, when you breathe out, feel that you are breathing out all the rubbish inside you â€" all your undivine thoughts, obscure ideas and impure actions. Anything inside your system that you call undivine, anything that you do not want to claim as your own, feel that you are exhaling.

This is not the traditional yogic pranayama, which is more complicated and systematised, but it is a most effective spiritual method of breathing. If you practise this method of breathing, you will soon see the results. In the beginning you will have to use your imagination, but after a while you will see and feel that it is not imagination at all but reality. You are consciously breathing in the energy which is flowing all around you, purifying yourself and emptying yourself of everything undivine. If you can breathe this way for five minutes every day, you will be able to make very fast progress. But it has to be done in a very conscious way, not mechanically.

3 Breathing in peace and joy

The first thing that you have to think of when practising breathing techniques is purity. When you breathe in, if you can feel that the breath is coming directly from God, from Purity itself, then your breath can easily be purified. Then, each time you breathe in, try to feel that you are bringing infinite peace into your body. The opposite of peace is restlessness. When you breathe out, try to feel that you are expelling the restlessness within you and also the restlessness that you see all around you. When you breathe this way, you will find restlessness leaving you.

After practising this a few times, please try to feel that you are breathing in power from the universe, and when you exhale, feel that all your fear is coming out of your body. After doing this a few times, try to feel that you are breathing in infinite joy and breathing out sorrow, suffering and melancholy.

2. Becoming aware of the breath

When you sit down to meditate, try to breathe in as slowly and quietly as possible, so that if somebody placed a tiny thread in front of your nose it would not move at all. And when you breathe out, try to breathe out even more slowly than you breathed in. If possible, leave a short pause between the end of your exhalation and the beginning of your inhalation. If you can, hold your breath for a few seconds. But if that is difficult, do not do it. Never do anything that will make you physically uncomfortable during meditation.

1. Breathing into the heart centre

Please breathe in and hold your breath for a couple of seconds, and feel that you are holding the breath, which is life-energy, in your heart centre. This will help you to develop your inner meditation capacity.

Manila, Philippines --- The much awaited on-screen reunion between movie queens Amalia Fuentes and Susan Roces, who last worked together in the film “Cover Girls” in the late 1960s, isn’t pushing through, after all.

Following the conclusion of her first taping day, which took all of 24 hours, Amalia decided to quit the teleserye, “Muling Buksan ang Puso,” which would have reunited her with her former rival, Susan Roces.

In an exclusive interview with the Manila Bulletin, the former actress-producer cited creative differences as her reason for resigning from the show.

She also said working for very long hours on the set could be hazardous to her health. Amalia, who is 72, shot her scenes at a rural area in San Juan, Batangas.

She said she was thankful, however, to ABS-CBN for taking good care of her during filming.

Amalia would have played a poor woman antagonist in the story in contrast to Susan Roces’ rich matron role.

“What all these demands is a greater sense of urgency among us in government as well as better coordination between and among the various agencies charged with implementing programs and projects in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness,” Balisacan explained.

The investment grade rating Fitch Rating and Standard and Poor’s accorded the country is an opportunity for the business sector to expand their interests and generate more employment, he said.

“We remain positive in our outlook and we will translate this into positive action to achieve inclusive growth. We hope that the private sector will maintain a positive outlook as well, and translate this into greater participation in the growth process,” he concluded. -- http://www.mb.com.ph/

He stressed the importance of creating conditions for sustained growth in other sectors or areas with high growth potential and link-up the poor sector of society to these growth centers.

“The faster this can be done, the better it will be for the greater number of our people,” said Balisacan.

The government will put emphasis on innovation, technology and research and development as well as facilitate the improvement in labor productivity.

Challenges Ahead

Balisacan assured the government is committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability through low and stable inflation, and sustainable levels of the fiscal deficit and the external performance indicators.

“While we recognize our robust performance in the first quarter, we will continue to be vigilant against downside risks and address critical constraints to maintaining this growth momentum,” said Balisacan.

Balisacan explained the robust growth in the first three-months was fuelled by business confidence and consumer optimism, which boosted consumption, investment as well as government spending.

The end-March GDP growth was the country’s highest expansion since the second-quarter in 2010 at 8.9 percent.

“The first-quarter growth is the highest so far under the Aquino administration and also the third consecutive quarter of more than 7 percent GDP growth,” Jose Ramon A. Alber, NSCB secretary general, said.

Net exports, however, contracted primarily due to a decrease in external demand for electronic components.

“This growth figure is significant since it puts to rest the doubts cast on the 2012 figure as being due to base effects only. It also indicates to us that we may now be moving along a new growth trajectory. And by the way, GDP in 2012 actually grew by 6.8 percent,” Balisacan said in a briefing.

From January to March this year, the Philippines exceeded the economic expansions of Indonesia (6 percent), Thailand (5.3 percent), Vietnam (4.9 percent), even higher than that of the People’s Republic of China (7.7 percent).

“This growth rate of 7.8 percent exceeded market forecasts, including my own. But please note that I was the most optimistic of all,” he added.

On the demand side, capital formation has primarily driven overall growth with its 47.7 percent expansion, surpassing the contribution of household consumption which grew by 5.1 percent.

Government consumption also grew by 13.2 percent due to state support for social programs such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), agriculture development programs, and the rationalized MOOE for public elementary and high school under the Department of Education.

“For the first time, expenditure in capital formation, including other private sector investments such as on durable equipment, contributed more to growth than household consumption expenditure,” said Balisacan.

Heightened domestic demand led to the local manufacturing sector growing by 9.7 percent. Also stirring the economy is the construction sector that grew 32.5 percent in the first quarter, indicating a good positioning toward an industry-led economy.

Retail trade remained strong as the spending capacity of Filipinos continued to grow due to the improving employment situation, higher overseas Filipinos workers (OFW) remittances, and stable inflation.

The agriculture sector growth is also catching up with a 3.3 percent growth rate as the fisheries subsector bounced back from a series of contractions to a growth of 5.5 percent during the quarter.

The economy, measured by its gross domestic product (GDP), expanded at the fastest pace in almost three years in the first-quarter of 2013.

Data from the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) showed that the development on the production side contributed positively to the country’s growth in the first-quarter. Services expanded by 7 percent, industry by 10.9 percent, and the agriculture sector by 3.3 percent.

“Impressive performance of these sectors proves that the country is already reaping the benefits of strengthening priority sectors that are potential growth drivers and employment generators,” Balisacan said.
