he he he, supplements ra ni ha. og naa galeng hyperlipidemia, also take prescription medication -- niacin, simvastatin, cholestipol, gemzofibril.

why?

because the combined effects (synergistic effect) of simvastatin and niacin can effectively reduce LDL and raise HDL. In addition, the effects of gemzofibril (and fiber!) can reduce triglycerides.

here's my advice. my tactic. when i'm at work and i'm admitting patients ..sometimes i see over 20 patients in a span of 2-3 hours. trauma patients, at that. what i do to stay calm despite the storms is i try to whistle a happy tune. patients will always say to me, "you're always upbeat, doc. you're always whistling."

haha. sometimes, one has to whistle to stay calm.

when patients' ostomy bags and falling of, when code blues are declared, code grey, etc. mag stay calm lang ta.

specially during 36 hour on calls. holy moly guacamole! stress to the stress but mo whistle gehapon. sometimes, i fall asleep in my desk and colleagues say, "lorenzo, you were whistling then you started snoring."

bahahaha! jati-a pod da. :P

ps. stay calm. whistle. carry on. ;D

Photos Unlimited / The Tausug people of the Philippines
October 01, 2013, 04:20:57 PM
The Tausūg or Suluk people are an ethnic group of the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. The term Tausūg was derived from two words tau and sūg (or suluk in Malay) meaning "people of the current", referring to their homelands in the Sulu Archipelago. Sūg and suluk both mean the same thing, with the former being the phonetic evolution in Sulu of the latter (the L being dropped and thus the two short U's merging into one long U). The Tausūg in Sabah refer to themselves as Tausūg but refers to their race as Suluk as documented in official documents such as birth certificates in Sabah, which are written Malay. The Tausūg are part of the wider political identity of Muslims of Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan known as the Moro ethnic group, who constitute the third largest ethnic group of Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan.

The Han Chinese are an ethnic group native to East Asia. They constitute approximately 92% of the population of China, 98% of the population of Taiwan, 74% of the population of Singapore, 24.5% of the population of Malaysia, and about 20% of the entire global human population, making them the largest ethnic group in the world. There is considerable genetic, linguistic, cultural, and social diversity among the Han, mainly due to thousands of years of immigration and assimilation of various regional ethnicities and tribes within China. Of the 10 million Chinese who live in the Philippines, some 25% of the Philippine population have Han blood in their veins. ;D 8)

Manchu are not considered Han Chinese. They were, for most of Chinese Imperial History, considered barbarian peoples of the north. The Manchu conquered China in the 1600s and established the last great Dynasty called the Qing Dynasty.

They have, for the most part, been assimilated into Han culture. However, they are genetically different and phenotypically different from the pure Han Chinese.

it's the same until now, though my understanding is not so much the race or the color of skin but the qualification, experience, and the level of position in a firm.  the british (almost always, most are british or europeans) just happen to be more qualified and more experienced.  (the arabs can afford to get the best and the brightest from the west, so to speak, while the professional filipinos who go there are almost always young and just starting, in their twenties like your father.  the older and more experienced filipinos tend to leave and go to the west, again like your father.)

when i was younger, i would listen to dad's 'life lessons' for my siblings and i. you're right tita, tinuod bitaw about the pay for pinoys. when dad left for saudi in 1981, he was only 23 years old. he said the first time he got his pay check na kuyawan siya kai it was around $3500 riyals a month. compared to how much a newly-graduated civil engineer would make in the philippines..around 8,000 or 10,000 pesos kono a month.

with 3500 riyals a month, my father was able to send all 6 of his siblings to school and pay off our family house in tagbilaran. he had to take over the responsibility of 'man of the house' after his father passed away when dad was only 21.

so, saudi arabia, was a blessing for dad. and my paternal side.

they also give super bonuses for pinoys who convert to islam. dad said that his boss, almost everyday, would put a quran on his desk and say, "mohandis, we will give you a raise if you convert. please think it over."  (mohandis is the arab term for engineer).

anyways, dad used to have religious talks with them and reiterate christ's importance.

sabi ni dad his boss said to him, "if you were a muslim, you could be an imam." haha. buanga.

dad had a friend, from cebu city, who converted. he was given a substantial raise. from 4500 riyals a month to 6000 riyals a month.

she should see how her fellow countrymen are treated in saudi arabia. the saudis practically treat indians, bangladeshis, sri lankans as slaves.

my father, who lived and worked in saudi for 12 years, said saudis really look down on indians. they prefer filipinos because filipinos are at least 'al qitab' (christian, people of the book) whereas indians are pagans.

saudis are a bit racist too, tho.

a white engineer they'll pay around 5,000 to 6,000 riyals
a filipino engineer they'll pay around 3,000 to 4,000 riyals
an indian engineer they'll pay around 2,500 to 3,000 riyals

this is what my dad said.

The head of Anesthesiology is also...you guessed it...a Filipino-American.

14. Blondes have more hair. They’re said to have more fun, and they definitely have more hair. Hair color determines how dense the hair on your head is. The average human has 100,000 hair follicles, each of which is capable of producing 20 individual hairs during a person’s lifetime. Blondes average 146,000 follicles while people with black hair tend to have about 110,000 follicles. Those with brown hair fit the average with 100,000 follicles and redheads have the least dense hair, with about 86,000 follicles.

#2391
13. Women’s hair is about half the diameter of men’s hair. While it might sound strange, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that men’s hair should be coarser than that of women. Hair diameter also varies on average between races, making hair plugs on some men look especially obvious.
#2392
12. Every day the average person loses 60-100 strands of hair. Unless you’re already bald, chances are good that you’re shedding pretty heavily on a daily basis. Your hair loss will vary in accordance with the season, pregnancy, illness, diet and age.
#2393
11. Facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body. If you’ve ever had a covering of stubble on your face as you’re clocking out at 5 o’clock you’re probably pretty familiar with this. In fact, if the average man never shaved his beard it would grow to over 30 feet during his lifetime, longer than a killer whale.

10. 80% of the brain is water. Your brain isn’t the firm, gray mass you’ve seen on TV. Living brain tissue is a squishy, pink and jelly-like organ thanks to the loads of blood and high water content of the tissue. So the next time you’re feeling dehydrated get a drink to keep your brain hydrated.

9. The brain itself cannot feel pain. While the brain might be the pain center when you cut your finger or burn yourself, the brain itself does not have pain receptors and cannot feel pain. That doesn’t mean your head can’t hurt. The brain is surrounded by loads of tissues, nerves and blood vessels that are plenty receptive to pain and can give you a pounding headache.

8. Information travels at different speeds within different types of neurons. Not all neurons are the same. There are a few different types within the body and transmission along these different kinds can be as slow as 0.5 meters/sec or as fast as 120 meters/sec.

7. Neurons continue to grow throughout human life. For years scientists and doctors thought that brain and neural tissue couldn’t grow or regenerate. While it doesn’t act in the same manner as tissues in many other parts of the body, neurons can and do grow throughout your life, adding a whole new dimension to the study of the brain and the illnesses that affect it.

6. Scientists say the higher your I.Q. the more you dream. While this may be true, don’t take it as a sign you’re mentally lacking if you can’t recall your dreams. Most of us don’t remember many of our dreams and the average length of most dreams is only 2-3 secondsâ€"barely long enough to register.

5. The brain is much more active at night than during the day. Logically, you would think that all the moving around, complicated calculations and tasks and general interaction we do on a daily basis during our working hours would take a lot more brain power than, say, lying in bed. Turns out, the opposite is true. When you turn off your brain turns on. Scientists don’t yet know why this is but you can thank the hard work of your brain while you sleep for all those pleasant dreams.

;D
