The pageant sparked controversy last year when pictures emerged of winner Kim Yu-Mi before she had undergone plastic surgery, with many claiming that cosmetic procedures give contestants an unfair advantage.

The student revealed her plastic surgery secret after photos emerged of her looking very different at school, but she said she hadn't misled anyone.

But she defended her crown telling the Korean media: 'I never said I was born beautiful.'

South Koreans have more plastic surgery than any other nation according to figures released in January.

Miss South Korea Yu-Mi Kim admitted having cosmetic surgery saying: 'I never said I was born beautiful.'

'The surgery takes away their individuality and uniqueness and its sad. Most are beautiful without it but telling them that their Korean ethnic features are in fact lovely is as effective as screaming at a brick wall.

'They wont believe you because they've been brainwashed to think westernization of their features is superior, I don't think they want to look white, but a mix of white and Asian and definitely less Korean.'

Another Reddit user, Forevertraveling, added: 'I live in Korea and older women complain how girls don't look Korean anymore because of all the plastic surgery.

'It's so common to the point if I meet a girl, I just assume she has had something done.'

'Girls here consider eye surgery just like using makeup.'

Reddit user HotBrownie, who claims to hail from Seoul, said: :  'Those women in fact do look unnervingly similar and yes, Koreans think so too.

'This is called the Korean plastic face look. In certain areas of Seoul, you would think all the women are sisters because they look so similar due to same surgeries.

'Without the plastic surgery, korean women are very diverse looking and easily can be told apart.

Has plastic surgery made these beauty queens all look the same? Koreans complain about pageant 'clones'

By Steve Nolan
25 April 2013

South Korea's growing obsession with plastic surgery became apparent when pictures of a group of aspiring beauty queens posted online prompted claims that cosmetic procedures have left all the contestants looking the same.

Pictures of the 20 Miss Korea 2013 finalists were posted on Reddit fuelling speculation that many of them had undergone surgery and prompting users to criticise the Asian nation's growing trend to go under the knife.

South Koreans currently have more plastic surgery than in any other country according to recent figures, with the craze particularly popular among 19 to 49-year-olds.

It's always sad when your pet runs off, especially if he has giant balls or is a rodent masquerading as a cat. While we hope all the pets found their ways to safe homes, we're pretty sure these people shouldn't be in charge of anything that has a pulse and completely understand why they ran away.

Experts say the small skeleton is very similar to what people believe aliens look like.

Chilean media reported that "Ata" was found by a man called Oscar Munoz in 2003 in La Noria, a ghost town in the Atacama Desert.

Munoz said he found a white cloth containing "a strange skeleton no bigger than 15cm" near an abandoned church.

He said it was a creature with hard teeth, a bulging head with an additional odd bulge on top.

no wonder if one isn't too careful one's bag disappears.  one may see it running in the arms of someone else, if one gets lucky.  those street people are hungry, they may as well kill for food. :(
#22559
that leaves me with 10 pesos savings for the day.  the amount can get me somewhere, one-way, because the jeepney fare stands at 8 pesos.

why do i have to buy pre-cooked food and not buy supplies from the market and cook them myself?  well, i've learned long ago that it's cheaper to buy cooked food when one is alone.  consider the additional expenses if one cooks his own food, from power to water expenses.

no question.  $1.50 a day in the philippine context is barely enough to meet one's most basic need, which is food.  nothing is left for shelter, clothing, education, medical needs, tubagbohol internet connection...
#22560
let me try to live, in my mind at least, on $1.50 a day in the philippine context.  at the current exchange rate, that would mean around 60 to 65 pesos.  it's enough, but just barely, for a simple 3 square meals for the day and nothing else.

5 pesos - water from the nearest public dispenser; good for only one drink, but being poor, i'll spread it throughout the day

20 pesos - yes, this can still buy me a full meal, though fastfood fare is out of the question.  the cheapest at jollibee costs 65 pesos, the package at 7-eleven is at 47 pesos.  (the sizes of both, according to an american i overheard here, are enough to feed an ant.)

so i'll settle for that rice and fish at the turo-turo.  no meat; the cheapest piece costs 27 pesos, thus it's out of the question.  i'll consume all the rice (i need that for energy), but i'll reserve half of the fish (invariably, an inun-onan) for my next meal, which will now be rice and vegetables.  again i'll reserve half of the vegetables for my third meal, for which i'll buy only a serving of rice for 5 pesos.  i'll buy additional water for 5 pesos.

Seven men in the history of humanity stand apart from the rest of us. These are the Apollo command module pilots who spent time alone in orbit around the Moon, while their colleagues walked on the lunar surface.
