About "I Am Defining Me": I Am _ is an affirmation that "I Am Defining Me" and I will celebrate myself by naming the many characteristics I personify. The creators of the I Am Defining Me movement name who they are, embody that definition and allow it to empower them to reach their goal of building health equity and generational wealth in the Black community, utilizing cannabis.

HOUSTON (PRWEB) DECEMBER 13, 2020
On the heels of the inauguration, the founders of "I Am Defining Me" fuel themselves and others with the strength of their shared identity with the future VP as they set about building health equity and generational wealth in the Black community. Professionals in a variety of industries, the founders have come together to ensure generational wealth and true wellness are finally realized for a people that have been disenfranchised since they arrived in this country. And what's more, the tool these accomplished professionals are using is cannabis.
"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country." — Thomas Jefferson
The creators of the movement, members of the Cannabis Health Equity Movement (CHEM) and 40 Acres And A Dispensary, believe that through their strategic planning, passion, and purposeful work they can create a "Wakanda" of sorts where the economy is built utilizing cannabis. Dr. Angela Ledbetter, MD describes her Wakanda simply as "unity" amongst her people and she believes that unity should be centered around "that vibranium we call cannabis". Another leader of the movement, Dr. Ogadinma Obie, MD, describes her "Cannabis Wakanda" as "wealth, evidence-based medicine, and health consciousness fully restored to a benevolent community of the historically oppressed and allies". Dr Obie believes such a country can be realized with "Vice President Elect Kamala Harris and President Elect Joe Biden being the leaders that move us toward the advancement of health, wealth, and community" and the movement plans to hold them to that seemingly idealistic task.
At iamdefiningme.com, the I Am Defining Me movement is inviting you to celebrate your shared identity with Kamala Harris, whether it be through your affiliation with an HBCU, your Black Greek membership, or your belief that Black people deserve the same health, wealth, and opportunities as all people. By celebrating your identity and making a donation to the movement, you will receive a unique I Am Defining Me apparel gift of either Historic, Divine or One designation to proudly wear on Inauguration Day with your head held high in unity with our Vice President Elect. With your donations, the creators of I Am Defining Me will continue to expand the work they do to:

INCREASE PARTICIPATION OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN THE FINANCIAL GAINS OF THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY (which is expected to reach $130 Billion annually by 2024)

I Am Defining Me partners plan to facilitate increased industry participation by developing educational materials, experiential activities, resource guidance, workforce and entrepreneurial support services, and opportunities to influence legislative reform.

PROMOTE CANNABIS RESEARCH AND IMPROVE HEALTH IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY (the National Institutes of Health and the US government have recognized cannabis as medicine, evidenced by their acceptance of cannabis research applications and attainment of a patent on the natural chemicals in the plant in 1999)

I Am Defining Me science & research development partners plan to improve Black health by designing and promoting cannabis research initiatives, addressing and mending the distrust of the Black community in participation in scientific research, increasing Black test subject involvement in scientific research, enforcing the standards of ethical testing, promoting health and medical education programs, and promoting career pathways into cannabis medicine and technology among Black candidates.

RESTORE HONOR & A DESIRABLE IMAGE OF BLACK COMMUNITIES (which has been ravaged by systemic racism and the war on drugs)

I Am Defining Me community development and media partners plan to restore honor by designing and implementing community investment initiatives with local community stakeholders and influential leaders in medicine, media & entertainment, sports, technology, and politics. The I Am Defining Me movement embraces the words of Kamala Harris: "Our unity is our strength, and diversity is our power." Through "I Am Like My VP", the first campaign of the movement, I Am Defining Me invites you to join them in celebrating their diverse Black identities and rebuilding the Black community - a community that Dr. Rachel Knox, MD believes has "no reason to be burdened by scarcity mindsets when we agree that we should be building an economy that at the same time serves humanity. You can have both, and in my Wakanda we do have both."

NORTHBROOK, ILL. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
USA Oncology Centers, the newest division of USA Clinics Group, announced today it has been granted a radioactive materials license to offer targeted internal radiation to treat patients with metastatic liver cancer. The new state-of-the-art outpatient clinic will welcome patients beginning Monday, December 14 at 162-03, Ste. 200, Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, New York.
"Every aspect of our new oncology center has been designed with the patient's overall cancer care in mind to provide the best clinical outcomes and patient experience," said Founder and CEO, USA Clinics Group, Yan Katsnelson, M.D. "We will be able to offer the most advanced minimally invasive procedures to treat liver cancer in state-of-the-art outpatient centers under the direction of a world-class team."
The American Liver Foundation reports that about 21,000 Americans are diagnosed with primary liver cancer every year, making it one of the only cancers that is on the rise in the United States.
USA Oncology Centers will offer Yttrium-90 radioembolization, also called Y-90 Selective Internal Radiation Therapy. This innovative therapy delivers targeted internal radiation under image guidance. Radioembolization is very similar to chemoembolization but uses radioactive microspheres instead of chemotherapy drugs. This type of interventional oncology therapy is used to treat both primary and metastatic liver tumors, generally improving the patient's quality of life with minimal side effects from the treatment.
"Receiving the radioactive materials license in New York is a tremendous accomplishment and the result of a team effort," said Jeff Geschwind, M.D., Director of USA Oncology Centers. "Our patients will now be able to undergo treatment that they would not otherwise be able to receive in the very safe environment of office-based labs."
As part of a patient's multidisciplinary team, USA Oncology's skilled interventional radiologists will work together with the patients' cancer team to integrate minimally invasive therapies using imaging guidance into the patients' treatment plan. These recently developed precision treatments for patients with either primary or metastatic liver cancer offer the promise of getting the tumor under control and a better quality of life. Patients who are not eligible for surgery are ideal candidates to pursue interventional oncology therapy.
"Interventional oncology that offers targeted therapies are now showing more promise than ever before for patients with advanced liver cancer," Katsnelson said. "At USA Oncology Centers, we're dedicated to helping patients discover hope for a healthier life."

Carterra, Inc. announced that they have closed on a round of equity financing led by PerkinElmer, Inc.

SALT LAKE CITY (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Carterra, Inc., the world leader in label-free high throughput antibody screening and characterization, today announced that they have closed on a round of equity financing led by PerkinElmer, Inc. Current Carterra investors Telegraph Hill Partners and Ballast Point Ventures also participated in the financing round.
The Carterra LSA platform for accelerating the discovery of therapeutic antibodies has become the new standard in many of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, as well as leading biotech, academic, CRO and government research labs. The Carterra LSA platform is also being used in COVID-19 therapeutics research including by CoVIC, the worldwide consortium funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The LSA platform enables 100 times the binding data to be collected in 10% of the time with 1% of the sample versus competing platforms.
"Biologics and biotherapeutics discovery and development is a very dynamic area of pharma science and one that is important to PerkinElmer's strategy as we work with scientists around the world to help them develop new ways to fight chronic disease and outbreaks like COVID-19," said Dr. Alan Fletcher, VP and GM Life Sciences at PerkinElmer. "Carterra's innovative high throughput SPR (surface plasmon resonance) technology is poised to disrupt biologics research in the areas of both upstream profiling and downstream QA/QC."
Traditional antibody discovery relies on low-resolution screening techniques to triage antibody libraries down to a small number of candidates, which are then characterized on low-throughput biosensors. The Carterra LSA platform turns that model on its head by allowing the rapid and high-resolution characterization of entire antibody libraries for binding kinetics and epitope, thereby combining screening and characterization into one step. This saves significant time, money, and precious samples. It also reduces the risk of missing a potential blockbuster candidate. Biologics developers now have an enormous advantage in differentiating their molecules from competitors' drugs and establishing intellectual property claims.
"The LSA platform is the state of the art in biologics discovery," said Josh Eckman, Carterra's Chief Executive Officer. "We are thrilled to have PerkinElmer as an investor and look forward to working together to advance our shared visions to improve drug discovery and life science research."
About Carterra, Inc.
Carterra is the leading provider of high throughput technologies designed to accelerate and improve the discovery of novel therapeutic candidates. Carterra's LSA instrument, software, and consumables for monoclonal antibody (mAb) characterization deliver up to 100 times the throughput of existing platforms in 10% of the time while using only 1% of the sample required by other systems. The LSA combines patented microfluidics technology with real-time high throughput Surface Plasmon Resonance (HT-SPR) and industry-leading data analysis and visualization software to revolutionize mAb screening. Carterra, Inc. is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has Customer Experience Centers in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Boston, and Munich, Germany. New solution brings Care Coins to home-based caregivers and family members while also capturing vital data on care activities to support better care delivery

PALM BEACH, FLA. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Care Heroes, a digital health solution provider that automates caregiver incentives and captures real-time care data, announced today the availability of its latest release. The first of its kind, Care Heroes gives healthcare providers and health plans the ability to connect directly with home-based caregivers, including paid caregivers and family members, while also tracking important data that can be used to improve patient outcomes, reduce cost of care and provide critical support in the home.
As millions of Americans opt to receive care services in their homes due to the risk of contracting COVID-19 in hospitals or physician offices, the role of home care providers has never been more critical. But these providers are struggling to keep up with demand while also retaining their best caregivers and avoiding caregiver burnout. Family members are taking on more of the daily responsibilities of caring for loved ones with limited knowledge on how to do so.
Chiara Bell, CEO of Care Heroes, said, "We built this solution to help recognize a segment of the healthcare workforce that arguably has the most significant economic and social impact on patient care but has not been properly acknowledged for decades. With our platform in place, healthcare providers and health plans can engage more directly with home-based caregivers in real-time to ensure important care activities are completed. At the same time, they can reward caregivers and staff members for the important work they do, resulting in higher employee satisfaction and retention rates."
According to Tim Hanold, CEO of the award-winning Care Advantage, a large in-home care provider with locations across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., "Our culture has always centered around taking better care of our caregivers so they can take better care of our clients, so working with the Care Heroes platform has been a great fit for us. It's easy to use and easy to implement, which has been key to the rapid adoption of the new solution across our teams."
Caregivers are embracing the Care Heroes rewards, called Care Coins, as it recognizes their hard work and dedication to keeping patients healthy and safe at home. Rewards can be redeemed for food, gas and other items that support caregivers. During the first week of launch with Care Advantage, more than 90% of the eligible caregivers adopted the application.
One of the Care Advantage caregivers recently commented, "This program is very spirit-uplifting and encourages me to get my job done in a timely manner. It makes me excited to be a caregiver for this company, and the gift cards are such a blessing, especially at this time of the year."
Another home health caregiver noted that "The Care Heroes application for paid caregivers is cutting edge. It has one of best incentive programs and is especially needed during this time of COVID-19 when so many clients need the extra care. The app is effective and efficient and gives me a sense of pride."
How it Works
Care Heroes easily integrates with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) and EHR systems to capture caregiver reported data from the home. Critical information such as caregiver visit verification, care plan compliance, and patient satisfaction are intelligently aggregated to recognize and reward quality caregivers. Home care providers can additionally customize caregiver rewards based on key performance metrics that are unique to their organizations.
Once information is collected on the platform, Care Heroes' proprietary artificial intelligence and natural language processing identifies critical risk areas within the population. Aggregated key insights and quality metrics can be securely reported to providers, payors, and care managers so they may intervene with appropriate support to those members at risk of returning to the hospital or skilled nursing facility.
Caregivers in the home are the first to observe changes in their patient's condition, assess environmental risks and identify social determinants of health needs. They are a vital part of the healthcare ecosystem and incorporating the caregiver into the care team is fundamental to achieving the best outcomes for patients.
To access the platform, healthcare providers should contact Care Heroes at http://www.joincareheroes.com or call (877) 763-3343.
About Care Heroes
Care Heroes delivers an innovative software solution that better connects all key stakeholders in a patient's care with a particular emphasis on acknowledging and incentivizing home-based caregivers who often have the most accurate day-to-day information and influence on a patient's condition. Leading healthcare providers and health plans use Care Heroes to empower their care management teams to more proactively monitor and address the needs of patients who need assistance, which ultimately helps eliminate gaps in care, reduces costly complications and improves care team member satisfaction. Initial trial results show the bili•hut neonatal phototherapy system delivered effective high intensity phototherapy for treating infant jaundice in the home setting eliminating the need for infant hospital readmissions.

BOSTON (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Little Sparrows Technologies, a medical startup committed to improving the care and well-being of newborns, announces initial results of a home phototherapy trial of bili•hut, a next-generation portable LED phototherapy device for neonatal jaundice treatment. In this first series consisting of three infants, bili•hut was deployed directly from a primary care pediatric office following outpatient diagnosis of significant jaundice. The infants were effectively treated at home in an average of 16 total hours of phototherapy treatment and did not require hospital readmission.
Currently conducted in the greater Boston area, the bili•hut trial is designed to deliver hospital intensity phototherapy at home for the treatment of neonatal jaundice (NNJ). Jaundice is the leading reason newborns are readmitted into a hospital. It is a yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes caused by elevation of bilirubin, a breakdown product of red blood cells. Approximately 10 percent of all newborns suffer from elevated bilirubin levels which can cause irreversible brain injury or death if untreated. Phototherapy treatment using high intensity blue light helps with the detoxification of bilirubin, curing nearly all cases of jaundice and preventing brain injury.
"During a pandemic it is more critical than ever to have access to effective and convenient outpatient phototherapy treatment of neonatal jaundice. It keeps infants and families out of the hospital and safe at home," said Dr. Scott Blanchard, senior attending physician at Bulotsky and Associates, a Mass General Brigham Affiliated Pediatric Practice in the greater Boston area using bili•hut.
"Our practice is very impressed by how effective bili•hut is compared to biliblanket phototherapy in treating jaundice. It is easy to administer, shortens the time required for phototherapy and keeps infants with their families safe at home," continued Dr. Blanchard.
Bili•hut Trial Results
The first two infants in the trial had blood type mismatch resulting in destruction of infant red blood cells. In less than 48 hours after arriving home from birth, both infants experienced sudden increases of serum bilirubin to ranges meeting the American Academy of Pediatrics criteria for phototherapy treatment, despite reassuring levels during their birth admission. The third infant had neonatal jaundice associated with polycythemia, or high red blood cell count. After receiving two courses of intensive care unit phototherapy during birth admission the infant was discharged home, only to again experience significant elevation of bilirubin 24 hours later.
In consultation with their pediatric office, the parents received a portable bili•hut bassinet and training. The parents were able to effectively administer phototherapy treatment at home. The bili•hut achieved bilirubin reduction rates ranging from 0.35 mg/dL/hr to 0.58/dL/hr, resolving jaundice with an average of 16 total hours of phototherapy.
The results are on par with hospital intensive care unit phototherapy devices despite frequent interruptions in the home setting. They also dramatically outpace the performance of fiberoptic pad devices, or "biliblankets", which can require four or more days of treatment in uncomplicated jaundice cases and are generally inadequate for the more complicated cases seen in the bili•hut trial.
"The early results of our home care bili•hut trial are extremely exciting," said Dr. Donna Brezinski, CEO of Little Sparrows Technologies and a neonatologist. "About 200,000 newborns are readmitted to the hospital in the United States every year for phototherapy treatment. With the efficacy we are seeing with bili•hut, it is very promising that a home treatment option could be available through pediatric offices for the majority of jaundice cases. This would greatly reduce the cost of care and enable better use of hospital resources, while keeping mom and baby together during a critical time of bonding and establishing breastfeeding."
For more information on the bili•hut, visit http://www.little-sparrows-tech.com.
About bili•hut
Jaundice is the most common diagnosis associated with hospital readmission of newborns, costing the US healthcare system more than $1B annually. Bili•hut, is a first-of-its-kind portable high-intensity phototherapy device for jaundice treatment offering a unique, arched light configuration that increases skin illumination by at least 50 percent compared to traditional phototherapy devices. Capable of delivering amongst the highest spectral power of any neonatal phototherapy device available, bili•hut offers hospital intensity treatment at the parent's side, whether in the postpartum room or home.
About Little Sparrows Technologies
Founded in 2013 by Harvard Medical School affiliated physicians, Little Sparrows Technologies offers an innovative approach for treating jaundice. Little Sparrows has received two phases of funding from the National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program as well as from the USAID sponsored Saving Lives at Birth Grand Challenge. Little Sparrows Technologies received a 2018 Patents for Humanity Award recognizing the potential for bili•hut to be a game-changing technology to solve a humanitarian challenge. The company offers solutions to support hospitals, US pediatrician offices and international health care organizations. For more information, http://www.little-sparrows-tech.com.

Unitek receives nursing-board approval to offer their BSN program in Concord, California

CONCORD, CALIF. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
In November, Unitek received nursing-board approval to expand their BSN program to the Concord community. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) pre-licensure program will provide students with a coveted degree in the healthcare industry.
Nurses equipped with a BSN degree often receive more opportunities in the field. High school graduates and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) may pursue this degree to further their education and take the next step in their careers. While a bachelor's degree isn't a requirement for RNs, BSN-trained nurses generally receive higher salaries, management positions, and leadership roles. A BSN degree can make a significant difference in the life and career of a healthcare professional.
"Unitek chose Concord because studies have shown that the San Francisco Bay Area is one of the fastest growing regions in California. They have seen a 9.3% increase from 2010-2018 alone," said Dr. Abdel Yosef, Chief Academic Officer at Unitek College. "Furthermore, in Contra Costa County, 29% of the population is over the age of 55. In addition, 23.4% of RNs are above the age of 60. These are both contributing factors to workforce shortage projections published by the Healthforce Center at UC San Francisco."
This program will give aspiring nurses in Concord the opportunity to earn their BSN degree at Unitek. Not only will they gain invaluable skills, but they'll benefit from the convenience of completing some of their required courses online. Unitek also utilizes a virtual platform with simulation training for the next generation of nurses. Active innovative in online teaching has become central to the mission of this educational institution.
Other benefits include experienced instructors, NCLEX-RN test preparation services, and employment support. The Concord campus has successfully prepared LVNs through their dedicated team and excellent NCLEX pass rates. With the addition of this RN program, they can better the community by preparing safe and competent RNs with BSN degrees.
"We are thrilled to offer the BSN program at our Concord campus," said Janis Paulson, Chief Executive Officer at Unitek College. "This is a big step forward for Unitek as we continue to educate the next generation of nurses. In extending our reach, we hope to better the communities around us through the advancement of education and healthcare."
Unitek College is one of California's reputable healthcare and nursing colleges. At their Concord campus, the BSN program is now pending approval from state and accrediting agencies. Every Unitek program teaches the clinical technique and theory used in the field today. Equipped with a multitude of sought-after skills, Unitek graduates are prepared to excel in many of the fastest-growing careers in healthcare and nursing.

CURoxide continues to dominate the disinfectant marketplace with measurable kill rates of 99.9999% efficacy against the most resistant pathogens*

OVIEDO, FLA. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Along with the Government of Canada's issuance of an "urgent need for health products that can help limit the spread of microorganisms, including viruses that cause COVID-19," it announced inclusion of CURIS System's proprietary CURoxide Hydrogen Peroxide blend and fogging system in its list of hard-surface disinfectants that are now authorized for sale in Canada to be used in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). CURoxide shows a measurable 99.9999% efficacy in killing the most resistant pathogens*.
This interim approval came as a result of Health Canada introducing innovative and agile regulatory measures to increase supply and ensure Canadians and health care workers have access to hand sanitizers, disinfectants and personal protective equipment to address product shortages. Among other measures, Health Canada publishes an up-to-date list of disinfectants approved for use against COVID-19, in which it has included CURIS' CURoxide.
CURIS' CURoxide Hydrogen Peroxide blend and fogging system is also the only pulse fogging system on the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s List-N for efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). CURoxide has been in use for more than 7 years to stop the spread of infectious disease in commercial settings across the world, including currently in use by the National Guard to decontaminate ambulances, police stations, daycare facilities and more; by public transportation systems, including Portland's TriMet to disinfect buses every evening after service; in public school systems, including Seminole County, Florida, to disinfect classrooms and other public spaces; by municipal fire departments, such as Miami Fire EMS for their fire trucks; the Georgia Department of Emergency Preparedness; and many more.
"Too many products on the market today make unsubstantiated claims that result in ineffective or improper decontamination against the virus but also can potentially harm the materials and surfaces they are used on as well as prove toxic to the people administering the chemicals," said Frances Grinstead, CEO of CURIS System. "Having already gone through the rigorous testing and application process with the EPA and to now be approved for sale and use by Health Canada, CURIS can give customers the peace of mind that the safety of its product, its delivery mechanism, and its effectiveness in fighting COVID and other disease is unmatched in the industry."
While most systems rely on dispensing chemicals and turning off once the desired time is achieved or depend on manual spraying, CURIS goes a step further by focusing on a 'maintained pathogen-kill zone.' Its system is designed to reduce human error with a hands-free system for remote operation that allows the operator to monitor, manage, measure, track, and report, including the ability to quickly prove, and continuously improve, decontamination efforts. Traditional cleaning methods, even others approved for COVID-19, often miss surface areas, and many disinfectants that kill 99.9% of germs can leave up to 1,000 harmful organisms behind on surfaces. This was once considered acceptable but not any longer with the onset of COVID-19. Other commercial solutions on the market today have been proven to leave behind dangerous, toxic residues that collect grime and cause corrosion to surfaces, materials, electronics and more. Many of these chemical residues have been linked to neurotoxicity, allergies and anti-microbial resistance in humans.
The CURIS Decontamination System was designed and is manufactured in the U.S.A. to effectively work in such environments as:

Transportation systems, including buses, airplanes, subways, taxis

Emergency Response Operations, including fire stations, police stations

Schools

Medical facilities, including hospitals, assisted living/long-term care facilities

Laboratory spaces

Sports facilities and gyms

Military facilities

"The ability to not only disinfect a space thoroughly and effectively and prove and continually improve those efforts through our proprietary cloud-based reporting system, brings companies and the public the reassurance and peace of mind they deserve in these uncertain times," added Grinstead.
About CURIS System
Headquartered in Oviedo, Florida, CURIS System provides the most efficacious pulse germ-killing* disinfectant system with no harmful residues available on the market today. Established in 2014, CURIS' innovative and patented hydrogen peroxide fogging system has revolutionized portable, high-level disinfection, making hospital-grade decontamination accessible across multiple markets. Its EPA-registered "No Touch" disinfection system uses pulse hydrogen peroxide fog to kill germs and odors. The system is easy to use, portable (roll-behind or hand carry), non-corrosive and leaves behind NO harmful residues. The CURIS app can be used for remote activation and cloud-based data storage for optimal tracking, management and reporting. For more information, please visit http://www.curissystem.com

Nura founder and staff recognized for mobile nursing unit delivering in-home care at no cost to un- and under-insured patients

MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Nura pain clinics founder and CEO, David Schultz, MD, has been honored as a "Notable Hero in Health Care" by Twin Cities Business. This is the first time the magazine has recognized outstanding individuals within the health care profession.
In recognizing Dr. Schultz, Twin Cities Business noted that early on in the pandemic when COVID-19 forced at-risk individuals into isolation, Dr. Schultz determined Nura would focus its mobile nursing team on providing free in-home care for high risk patients with implanted pain pumps who lacked in-home healthcare insurance. Without this extraordinary step these patients were at increased risk for contracting COVID by traveling to the pain clinic or, if their chronic pain was left untreated, of developing a dependency on opioids or ending up in hospital beds the state was striving to reserve for potential pandemic patients.
Nura has committed to continue offering this free service for those in need until the crisis has passed.
"Chronic pain never takes a break – regardless of the pandemic, and the need for the people to stay at home and limit travel," stated, Dr. Schultz. "We don't want cost to stand in the way of patients' care during these unsettling times. Therefore, early on we decided to use our mobile team of Home Care nurses to provide in-home visits or telehealth visits, regardless of insurance coverage, for patients unable to come into our clinic until this crisis is past. These nurses are the true heroes."
According to the magazine, the inaugural, "Notable Heroes in Health Care" series recognizes doctors, nurses, directors, CEOs, diversity officers, and medical advisors, among others. The honorees represent large hospital systems, private practices, insurance and pharmacy care companies, and more. The individuals serve on the front lines and behind the scenes, fighting Covid-19 and working to keep Minnesotans as healthy as possible. "I can't imagine a more fitting time to spotlight the work of so many impressive individuals in our health care community who don't often get singled out for their vital efforts," said Allison Kaplan, editor-in-chief, Twin Cities Business.
"We at Twin Cities Business are honored to use our platform to spotlight the people who keep all aspects of our health care system running so smoothly, even in the midst of a pandemic."
Honorees were determined based upon an editorial review of nominated individuals. To qualify, candidates had to be serving in a C-suite or senior-level administrative or clinical role in Minnesota, have at least five years of experience in health care, and have shown the ability to create significant, positive, and measurable results in their field. Individuals could not pay to be included.
It is the second time this year Dr. Schultz has been recognized for spearheading efforts to help those in need during the pandemic. In May, Minnesota Physician Publishing recognized Dr. Schultz as one of seven outstanding "Community Caregivers." The annual program "recognizes physicians and health care providers who have volunteered their medical services. Whether volunteering at home or overseas, these caregivers help people in need and come away with a revitalized sense of their work. Their compassion, commitment, and generous spirit reflect the deeply held values in Minnesota's medical community."
In presenting the honor, Minnesota Physician noted, that Dr. Schultz's initial decision to offer the free in-home care service came at a time when Nura had been forced to furlough 50% of its staff due to the suspension of elective procedures.
In regard to the recognition the program has received over the last several months, Dr. Schultz observed, "It's simply the right thing to do."
About Dr. Schultz and Nura Pain Clinics
Dr. Schultz is one of the country's leading authorities on interventional pain management. He and his clinic are focused on using advanced science and technology to provide patients with powerful pain relief while minimizing the use of systemic opioids. In September of this year, Nura was one of five organizations to receive a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health focused specifically on its non-narcotic options for treating pain.
Nura (formally MAPS Medical Pain Clinics) was founded in 1995 by Dr. Schultz. Today, Nura's multidisciplinary approach includes medication management, physical therapy and behavioral health coordinated with minimally invasive interventional procedures such as nerve blocks, spinal injections and nerve ablation. For more complex chronic pain problems, Nura offers a full range of implantable pain control options including spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation and targeted spinal drug delivery. Nura's mission is to give chronic pain sufferers their lives back.

The ability to freeze and thaw embryos successfully is one of the greatest advancements in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Many fertility patients at SGF who undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) reap the added benefits of having extra embryos to freeze, which mean lower cost, easier, and equally effective subsequent treatment cycles.

FAIRFAX, VA. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) patients Bekah and Chris Bartley are growing their family using in vitro fertilization (IVF) advancements that are making each IVF cycle work harder through subsequent frozen embryo transfers (FET), offering patients a lower cost, less complex, yet equally effective option for family building.
Following a fresh IVF cycle, patients have the option to freeze remaining embryos, using the most advanced technology, called vitrification. At SGF, about 40 percent of patients who undergo IVF have an additional embryo(s) that they choose to cryopreserve (freeze) to use for another attempt, should their first cycle be unsuccessful, or to continue to build their family at a later date. SGF is a national leader in optimizing pregnancy outcomes during fresh IVF and subsequent FET cycles.
The Bartley family from Northern Virginia, as with thousands of other SGF families, can attest to this, as they will soon welcome their fourth child who was conceived from embryos created during a fresh IVF cycle 10 years ago.
The Bartleys were living in Northern Virginia when they first started trying to have children more than a decade ago. After being unable to conceive on their own, the Bartleys sought care at SGF's Fair Oaks location with the late Stephen Greenhouse, M.D. However, after a few unsuccessful rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI), they knew it was time to move on to IVF.
In the Fall 2011, the Bartleys had their first and only fresh IVF cycle. They became pregnant with their first daughter as a result of that treatment, but they also had five additional embryos that the Bartleys decided to freeze. "That decision turned out to be the best decision we ever made, giving us three of our four beautiful daughters, and now with a fourth SGF baby on the way," shares Bekah.
To the Bartley's shock, a week after their first born turned one, they found out they were pregnant on their own. Their "surprise daughter," as they affectionately refer to her, was born in April 2014. A little over a year later in August 2015, they returned for their first FET cycle, which resulted in a third daughter, born in May 2016.
Building a Family with SGF as an Out of State Patient
When their third daughter was 3 months old, the Bartley family moved to Texas, but kept their embryos with SGF to continue building their family.
"SGF worked with us seamlessly for our second FET cycle, even though we were remote," Bekah recalls. "My OB/GYN and local fertility practice in Dallas executed our physician's orders and we flew back to Virginia in November 2017 for the actual embryo transfer."
That FET resulted in a third SGF baby born July 2018, which meant that up to that point, the Bartley's single fresh IVF cycle had a 100 percent success rate in transfers (one fresh, and two frozen) and healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
"Her birth was especially bittersweet for us as we were in the hospital having her when we learned of Dr. Greenhouse's passing," Bekah expresses. "We are forever grateful to SGF and Dr. Greenhouse and the contribution he made to give us our beautiful family."
Fast forward 3 years later to Fall 2020 and the Bartleys returned to SGF and Dr. Paulette Browne of SGF's Fair Oaks location for another FET, which the family is proud to announce, has resulted in a successful pregnancy.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) Cycles are Equally Effective as Fresh IVF Cycles
"For patients with a good prognosis who are 35 years of age or younger, we can offer an approximately 60 percent pregnancy rate per embryo transfer," says Dr. Browne. "In turn, this means that the success rates for FET cycles are very similar as IVF cycles using fresh embryos."
Recently, Bekah shared, "We decided that we'll be SGF patients until all our embryos have been transferred. 2021 will mark a decade we've been with SGF and every experience, doctor, nurse, and staffer we have worked with has been outstanding."
Additional benefits of FET:

The FET process is less intense, requires fewer office visits, and is more predictable than a fresh IVF cycle, which often times reduces stress.

The cycle requires less medication and no anesthesia because the egg retrieval has already taken place. Instead of stimulation medication, patients use estrogen and progesterone to thicken the lining of their uterus in preparation for the embryo transfer to allow implantation.

The success rates of an FET cycle are at least comparable to a fresh IVF cycle—and can often result in a higher success rate because of the opportunity to optimize the lining of the uterus before implantation.

A FET can allow time for genetic testing of the embryos prior to transfer, which lowers miscarriage rates and increases likelihood of pregnancy with a healthy baby.

"IVF turned out to be the difference maker for us and having embryos to freeze was an incredible blessing," Bekah expresses. "To anyone unsure of freezing their embryos, the FET cycle is significantly less invasive (and less costly) than the fresh cycle."

QuantaDose, the world's premier provider for reusable UVC light testing cards to detect fake germicidal UV-C lights, has rapidly innovated narrow-band UV fluorescence and wide-band photochromic materials into a popular tool for social media influencers, doctors, and businesses to detect fake UVC lights, today announced the release of their much-anticipated QuantaDose Influencer affiliate program.

SEMINOLE, FLA. (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2020
According to QuantaDose, the manufacture of the world's first and only reusable UVC wavelength indicating UV intensity test cards, people worldwide are pulling together to fight fake UV virus protection as a matter of life and death.
Wednesday, the New York Times reported at least 3,011 Americans died, by the end of the week, Johns Hopkins researchers say 3,309 died on Friday, making it the worst single day of the pandemic. More Americans died Friday than on D-Day or 9/11.
Despite the grim realities everyone has faced as the novel coronavirus has taken 2020 by storm, disrupting work, schools, and nearly everyone's personal lives globally, mainstream online retail stores have continued flooding American households with fake and underpowered imported UV-C light sterilization products.
YouTuber BigClive has gained thousands of comments and hundreds of thousands of views doing teardowns of fake UV lights sold online.
QuantaDose designed the world's first reusable credit-card-sized UVC light testing tool for both technical and non-technical people. QuantaDose is a revolutionary new device that the average person can instantly detect fraudulent UVC lights without spending hundreds of dollars on a fragile UVC light meter.
Social media influencers to large and small companies have taken a front-line position to prevent consumers from becoming victims of something far worse than a scam.  Selling a false sense of protection with fake UV sterilization isn't just deceptive business; it can be deadly for many people during a pandemic.
These UV light virus scammers go largely underreported by mainstream media as communities ravaged by the virus turn to high-tech UV snake oil salesmen.
"Thank God for the people that can make a difference are doing their best to fight the fakes. Doctors, online influencers, small and large businesses, even groups and individuals on crusades to stop fake imported goods are all trying to get the word out before lives are terribly impacted by these dubious companies pushing UV-C light products for virus protection that sometimes don't even emit UVC light," said John Coates, CTO and senior research scientist at Quanta X Technology.
QuantaDose discovered a breakthrough in combining molecular fluorescence and the quantum confinement effect for photochromatic WPV (Word Power Visibility) technology to provide reliable UVC intensity readings in 15 seconds with instant optimal UVC germicidal wavelength notification.  In this process, QuantaDose created the world's very first reusable self-powered 2 in 1 (UV-C wavelength detector and UV photochromic intensity sensor) that fits in your wallet.
The QuantaDose UVC intensity test card relies on calibrated word legibility starting at > 300 µW/cm² of power when the word " ULTRAVIOLET" first becomes legible during exposure optimal UVC germicidal wavelengths. Making QuantaDose the fastest and easiest UVC light test anyone can perform for validation in 15 seconds.
QuantaDose UVC test cards aren't just used for spotting fake UVC lights; the world's best manufacturers producing powerful UVC LED lights right here in the USA recommend QuantaDose UVC test cards," said Katie Webb, CEO of Quanta X Technology, the parent company of QuantaDose.com.
One such company is Western Technology, Inc., world-class manufacturer for industrial safety lighting for over 42 years. WT started production of the new WT GERM KILLER, a 275nm peak germicidal UVC wavelength emissions from a compact UVC light system, which could be the most powerful handheld UVC LED light array with a single charge lasting about 4-hours at high power.
Dr. Michael S. Kralik, Engineering Director of Western Technology, posted a youtube video using the QuantaDose UVC test card to demonstrate the powerful UVC produced by the UVC WT GERM KILLER BODYLight, a world-class explosion proof portable handheld UVC LED germicidal light designed and built in America.
In the video titled, "How do I know if germicidal UVC light is being emitted?" the QuantaDose UVC test card provides effortless results in demonstrating to youtube fans how the QuantaDose readings appear almost instantly from powerful UVC dose and strong UVC intensity.
Webb said, "Everyone at QuantaDose is grateful for the support we've received to make reusable UVC detection technology even better. At the same time, many prefer not to use commission links when informing fans and followers. But now, the option exists for companies like Western Technology or businesses like WeBeFit Gym to YouTube Influencers and individuals can all start earning up to 20% per referral sale with affiliate links to QuantaDose.com in a combined effort to help consumers find real UVC lighting that is powerful enough to really protect them in crisis."
QuantaDose products are also available on Amazon, which offers an affiliate program for those that prefer Amazon's affiliate program. https://www.amazon.com/quantadose

UBCF has delivered products to those in need and will continue to be there, now and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, through the support of Gifts-in-kind.
Every kind of giving is valuable when it comes to your heart, but one to keep in mind is in-kind. In-kind gifts are contributions of goods or services, other than a financial donation. A gift-in-kind can help UBCF assist the thousands of patients and survivors that turn to them for services and support, AND help donors be more generous than they might have been able to do otherwise during this pandemic. To make an in-kind contribution to UBCF, email GIKProgram@ubcf.org.
Moira, a UBCF client recently received a king size mattress. "Picking up my Tempur-pedic mattress was an early Christmas present that brought tears to my eyes. I already slept on it and had the best night's sleep. I want to thank all involved who helped to make this gift possible for me. As a breast cancer survivor I have had many sleepless nights and I am sure this mattress will enable me to have many restful nights in the years to come. UBCF made the pick up so easy and had all your helpers ready to assist my husband to put in our truck. Both of us were so appreciative! I want to thank all of you for the work you do in bringing joy to all of us who have endured breast cancer and wish you a joyous holiday season!"
Gifts-in-kind mean lower costs for UBCF so more funds can be directed to patient and family programs, assisting more women, men and families nationwide. UBCF programs include: Individual Grant, Holistic Care, Community Service, Child Sponsorship, Breast screening, Breast Reconstructive Surgery and the Audrey B. Mastroianni College Scholarship.
Executive Director Stephanie Mastroianni shared, "During these uncertain times, UBCF has been working hard to answer the call of our patients, their families and those in need across the country. Thanks to the people and communities' amazing support, we've been able to assist more than 300 patients and their families with nearly $240,000 in products through our COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Program which helps ease the burden of cancer patients sheltering at home."
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Per the National Cancer Institute (NCI), over 40,000 women and men will lose their lives to this deadly disease each year. Early detection of breast cancer helps save lives. UBCF encourages women and men to learn the self breast exam, available at no cost here. Please visit ubcf.org for more information.

In January 2020, Igor Spinella, CEO of Einova first visualized a need for UV-C phone sanitizers as it is common knowledge that cell phones can often carry many harmful bacteria and viruses. With the COVID-19 pandemic becoming increasingly serious, Igor decided it was time to turn his vision into reality. Einova's team conceptualized the idea of a UV-C sanitizing device that could also charge your devices wirelessly, naming it the Mundus Pro.
On October 7th, after researching, designing and achieving all necessary regulatory certifications. Einova released a 30-day Kickstarter campaign for the Mundus Pro, the first UV-C sanitizing device to be EPA and Intertek Certified with the ability to charge up to three Qi compatible devices simultaneously. Einova's vision became a reality as their campaign was fully funded in 24 hours to help bring the Mundus Pro to market.
"Since January 2020 responding to the COVID-19 global pandemic, our engineers and designers have invested thousands of hours in creating a UV-C sanitizing device that consumers can trust to keep their devices charged and accessories safe", said Igor Spinella, CEO of Einova. "When I started looking into developing a UV-C product that could incorporate our wireless charging technology, I noticed a lot of companies that were making them were often cut-rate manufacturers that never bothered obtaining certifications for their products. We take huge pride in providing consumers with products that they can trust and therefore gaining certification status was of high importance to us."
Not only is the Mundus Pro EPA and Intertek certified, it can also kill up to 99.9998% of bacteria and viruses. This is thanks to the four layers of protection consisting of two UV-C amps, four UV-C LEDs, an Ozone layer, and a layer of Titanium Dioxide. This combination helps to successfully breakdown DNA molecules and destroy bacterial cell walls. A recent study published by the American Journal of Infection Control shown that UV-C radiation can destroy SARS-CoV-2 at 222-nm of UV-C light. The Mundus Pro UV-C lamps are tuned to the germicidal peak wavelength of 254-nm.
The sanitizing process takes only 8-minutes to complete a full cleaning cycle. The process is substantially finished at 4 minutes, and the most dangerous DNA and RNA viruses and bacteria are eliminated in less than 2 minutes. Mundus Pro has space for multiple items such as two phones at the same time, sunglasses, watches, earpieces, face coverings, or anything else that fits. The Mundus Pro is set to be a gamechanger.
Pre-order for the Mundus Pro ends on December 16th, 2020 and shipping is expected to start shortly after.
