Good to see that Tito Boy (Judge Ingles) is fighting for truth and the importance of impartiality of the law. Paryente ra ba ni siya nako, my grand-uncle. :)

ASSOCIATE Justice Gabriel Ingles of the Court of Appeals in Cebu City condemned in a speech lawyers who are more concerned about earning money than doing justice and “destroy the legal profession even if they may be the minority.”
“Our profession used to be regarded as one of the noblest, if not the noblest profession in the world because our paramount concern is to obtain justice,” the judge said.
“But the perception seemed to have changed because a number of us are more concerned about how much is earned from the practice (and) are obsessed about winning at all costs even at the expense of justice.”
Ingles didn’t mention names but got the attention of colleagues who attended the turnover ceremony and induction of the newly-elected officers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter last June 3.
Ingles, once president of the IBP Cebu City Chapter, urged lawyers to be moral at all times.

Ingles always stressed the importance of judicial indepence both in “fact and the public's perception.”
Ingles is one of four judges in Cebu City who waived their monthly stipend from the Capitol two years ago.
He also declined to accept an honorarium from Pinamungahan town and a monthly allowance from Toledo City. /Reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol

I would not have minded if it were some other Tom, Dick and Harry mocking other religions. But you, a self-proclaimed follower of Christ and indefatigable elucidator of the word of God, acting in a very un-Christian way—that’s galling. By pouring scorn on another religion which you apparently do not understand, you show that you do not really understand your own, that your championing of the Christian faith is bogus and all for self-aggrandizement.

I would suggest you discern on your own postings before you utter more hypocrisy.

“ 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

June 07, 2011, 01:59:22 AM
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Nehru, the Indian political leader during the 1960s believed in old notion of "HINDI-CHINI BHAI BHAI" , which means, "Indian-Chinese Brotherhood". This changed when China sent the full force of the PLA to take Indian-held areas that China claimed were hers 'historically' as the Chinese did not believe in the British MacMahon Line, which was drawn to identify the border of British India.

The Indian Army was so badly routed and beaten that it suffered thousands of casualties compared to China's couple hundred casualties. This disastrous war, which India still sees as an embarassment today, is the reason for the increased Indian Air Patrol on its northern border between Pakistan and China.

When Zhou Enlai was sent to New Delhi to accept the Indian terms for unilateral cease-fire, Nehru was so hated by the Indian people that it cost him his political status.

The Indians , a regional power in South Asia, considers China as an obstacle in the region. Incidentally, China is a strategic ally and partner of Pakistan, the archnemesis of the Republic of India.

It was China who gave Pakistan the technology to develop its own nuclear weapons program.

Interesting eh?

During the late 1980s, China and Vietnam had a naval clash over the Spratlys. China's PLAAN (People's Liberation Army Armed Navy) completely wiped out a Vietnamese naval battle group. And killed the surviving Vietnamese navy and marine troopers.

China, which always sent Chinese fishing boats to the Philippine Seas, were subject to Philippine Coast Guard enforcement. I remember my dad telling me how the Philippine Navy would ram Chinese fishing ships and sink them. But that was when the United States had its military presence in Subic and a large air force presence in Clark.

Could China's military rise be a pretext for American Military Re-involvement in the Philippines? So far, I think America already has a little base in Basilan/ Jolo.

Ug mao ni ang GIHUWAT sa US!  :'(

You're right, Nong. Global strategic policy; the United States will take advantage of this to re-strengthen and re-position its hegemony in the Pacific. But I'm just worried because no one has ever seen China fully unfurl her military might in full view before.

The last time China went to war with major powers were on 2 occasions:

1. Korean War
-- where China sent over 2 million men to support North Korea and pushed the UN Forces, including Americans, back to the 38th parallel. And Forced the allies to sue for peace.

2. China-India Border War of 1962.
-- China's Red Guard took the Indian position and sweeped across the plain deep inside India. Forcing the Indians to sue for peace. China's PLA were 50 miles away from the perimeter of India's capital, New Delhi.

yikes!

now i know why you like latin.  i like latin too and i will always gravitate towards a latin mass when there's one.  i was lucky i grew up in a home where there were latin books.  (two elder brothers were seminarians who loved to explain the language to me.)  i just am not comfortable about joining groups within our church.

anyways, just this morning i told the banana republic my seeming regret over the "disappearance" of latin in our regular masses.  (i was pissed off that the credo, the our father, and prayer of the faithful were in tagalog, that's why.)  latin could have been one of the symbols of worldwide catholic unity, i said, just as islam uses arabic universally.  his answer?  arabic has an advantage because it is still alive and widely spoken while latin is a dead language.

your husband is right, tho you have a point as well.

i was attracted to latin when my good friend, Fr. Mark Hoffman, who was a spiritual advisor during my years of interest in joining the priesthood. he took me with other collegiate men to attend many latin-masses at the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania. Why, even Fr. Mark had a handsome voice. He would sing the Gloria In Excelsis Deo and my heart and ears would jump in joy at the beauty of the song.

Thats good that you're older brothers taught you some latin; they being seminarians, did they finish seminary and join the priesthood?

I guess i'm lucky that our parish has a tridentine mass on sundays. Its just so very peaceful, to be able to hear the readings in latin and the worship songs as well. I wonder if the revival was a policy of the late Pope John Paul II or by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

do you know? advanced thanks!

racial profiling against their own race? how iconic. indonesians are malays; filipinos are malays. we are, genetically speaking, identical. remove the religion and the cultural practice, we both are one.

perhaps the indonesian immigration agents are used to catering to foreign (white) tourists and seeing a non-white tourist made them suspect something odd?

@ isles, you were treated disrespectfully diay? where did this happen? i'm sorry you had to experience that. when i was in nagoya, japan, i too saw the japanese immigration officers searching a chinese national who was in our flight. the immigration officer's reaction was observed after he saw the person's passport.

It is the duty of a doctor to prolong life and it is not his duty to prolong the act of dying.

I agree with you. We prolong life as much as medicine can provide. And we limit the pain of dying and even eradicate it via analgesics that are provided for terminal patients in hospice care.

Doctors , medical providers are only the guardians of the health, we are not the Lord of Life, nor are we god. I am firmly against assisted suicide as it is medically unethical, and is also a legal issue that can result in devastating consequences.

Sometimes you question medical ethics.Kevorkian helps the terminally ill  and so much in pains patients. What difference did he do from doctors who advice to families who have vegetative patients unplugged the machine ?

I understand your concern, cujo, particularly in regards to the pain of patients. As for terminally ill patients, there is a service called hospice care, which is end of life care, providing palliative care for patients who are dying. They provide patients with analgesia to remove the pain, giving them morphine to nullify any pain sensation. This continues until the natural death of the patient.

The purpose here is to negate the pain, until the death of the patient.

Assisted suicide is the intentional killing of the patient, which is strictly forbidden by the American Medical Association.

In regards to patients who are in vegetative state, if the patient has a DNR status, then he or she will be removed from life support (DNR = do not resuscitate). Even if the families of these patients are against the decision of DNR, it still will proceed since it was the decision/ will of the patient. In the case that the patient gives power to a family member to choose the best medical action in case the patient looses consciousness or has an altered mental status that prevents him/her from making a decision, then the power of attorney goes to the family member. The medical provider and staff would acqiesce to their decision on medical issues, as it is prescribed under the law. If the physician does not listen to the power of attorney, then he or she is liable under law to loose his or her medical license.

In the case of patients who are already brain dead, we strongly recommend to the families that it is best to let natural death take course. We will usually say, "There is nothing else we can do..." It is for the next of kin to decide whether to let the patient die or live. But in most cases, they agree on letting him/ her go.

Even if the patient's family wants to let the patient live via life support, eventually the health insurance company will terminate service , especially considering the fact that it is expensive to put someone on life support.

But we always, always, advice patient families, next of kin, or power of attorney of the realities of brain dead conditions and on vegetative states.

Ah, the words of an erroneous man who is wrong and without direction. How can one with no direction ever choose a course. Your entire tirade here was a waste of time, and proved nothing. Besides your stubborn will, a trait of an old fool. And that, unfortunately, is the truth.

Obstinacy, sometimes, is irrefutable, even in persons in their dotage..
