oh, no.  niabot na sa ato ning car bombs?  what's happening?
#20404
The other vehicles that were burned due to the explosion include a mini-dump truck and a sports-utility vehicle, according to a Philippine News Agency report. Passing motorcycles were also hurled by the impact of the explosion.

The report added that the car bomb went off as the vehicle of  Guiani-Sayadi was passing the area.

Authorities are currently in the area investigating the incident.

An escort of the mayor’s sibling, City Administrator Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, who was riding separate motorcycles, were killed in the blast, which also injured some 30 others, some of them children who were on their way home from school.

Initial reports said the explosion came from a parked multi-cab vehicle in front of the Villa Funeral Parlor along the highway. Investigators said the bomb was likely set off from a distance as the car and escorts of Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. were passing by.

A television report said the blast destroyed five vehicles while fire has already spread to several houses.

Stonehouse Hudson regularly photographs dogs as part of her profession. She offers pet sessions and often takes pictures of dogs at weddings. To give back, she does free shoots of hard-to-place animals for local shelters.

She said the photograph of Unger and Schoep is more than just a moment frozen in time; it’s an everlasting reminder.

“I want people to identify with this photo, and remember a time when they felt safe, loved, and cared for,” Stonehouse Hudson said. “Then I want them to channel those feelings and pay it forward! There is way too much negativity in this world â€" maybe with this one photo we can start to change things just a tiny bit.”

“Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones. Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect. I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John. By the way, John rescued Shep as an 8 month old puppy, and he’s been by his side through many adventures,” she continued.
Stonehouse Hudson never imagined the tender moment she captured would eventually go viral and touch the hearts of hundreds of thousands.

“John lives for this dog, and for the dog’s comfort,” she told HuffPost. “My mother has a saying, ‘Everything is for the comfort and convenience of the Dog.’  John is a prime example of this.”

Photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson,  a friend of Unger’s, decided to capture the relationship between the man and his dog down by the water.

“This photo was from a last minute session,” the Bayfield, Wis., photographer told The Huffington Post in an email. “We had been trying to get together for weeks, but it kept not happening because of my travel schedule for Stonehouse.  We finally got together last Tuesday (the 31st). I had about 5 minutes to shoot and this is what I caught â€" a man and his dog. John loving his Schoep, and Schoep trusting John so much he falls asleep in the buoyancy of the water. This is in no way posed. I hate posed photos. They never, ever capture the true essence of anything.”

John Lundy of the Duluth News Tribune interviewed John Unger, who described how Schoep saved his life.  After breaking up with his former fiancee, Unger had been having suicidal thoughts. “To be honest with you, I don’t think I’d be here if I didn’t have Schoep with me (that night),” Unger told Lundy. “He just snapped me out of it. I don’t know how to explain it. He just snapped me out of it. … I just want to do whatever I can for this dog because he basically saved my ass.” Minnesota Public Radio reports that the popularity of the photo has spurred an outpouring of support in the form of donations to help pay for laser treatment for Schoep’s arthritis.

Talk of the Town / Re: Make LOVE, not WAR

In April 1965, at a Vietnam demonstration in Eugene, Oregon, Diane Newell Meyer, then a senior at the University of Oregon, pinned a handwritten note on her sweater reading "Let's make love, not war", thus marking the beginning of the popularity of this phrase. A picture of Meyer wearing the slogan was printed in the Eugene Register-Guard and then a related article turned up in the New York Times on May 9, 1965. When the slogan was used in California in 1967, then Governor Ronald Reagan joked to protesters "Those guys [the protesters] look like they can't make either of both".

John Lennon claimed to be the inventor of the phrase.

Make love, not war is an anti-war slogan commonly associated with the American counterculture of the 1960s. It was used primarily by those who were opposed to the Vietnam War, but has been invoked in other anti-war contexts since.

The phrase's origins are unclear; some credit Louis Abolafia. Radical activists Penelope and Franklin Rosemont helped to popularize the phrase by printing thousands of "Make Love, Not War" buttons at the Solidarity Bookshop in Chicago, Illinois and distributing them at the Mother's Day Peace March in 1965. They were the first to print the slogan.

thanks for the prayer, lorenz.  you must know that every evening i search this forum for specific prayers you've posted.  every time something tugs at me, i open this forum and search for your prayers that i feel are appropriate for my hour of need.  and those needs are myriad!

i see to it that i read hofelina's posts on saints and meditations too.  thanks to both of you.  we may have been strangers living now in different continents.  thanks to tb, we are one after all.

god is kind.  in him nothing is impossible.  we thought of a better solution---it's easier to relocate one person than 35 animals.  we thought of possible convents for my sister.  then a neighbor who is abroad offered her vacant house, for free.  wow!  my sister would be near enough for her food to be taken care of yet far enough from pets.  we all sighed in relief.
