Whew! thanks God your safe.

I remembered some stories of my father when he was working in the Pacific, Wake Island, where they brace themselves in chains during a typhoon. Then there was a big log flying from nowhere that hit thier barracks and made a hole through solid concrete.

Thanks Mike,

I have stumbled upon some helpful tips to burn that fats fast.

According to a Russian Scientist, your body may store fats as a result of slowed-down metabolism as a person age. Hence, no amount of diet and and excercise could do a quick fix, thought it helps gradually in long-term.

Hence, what this Russian Scientist recommends is to accelerate your metabolism and the trigger is to go out early in the morning (after a good 8 hour sleep), remove your clothes and have a quick swim in the "ice cold swimming pool". This is the only and natural way to accelerate your metabolism and burn all the fats in your body.

Please try it, theres no harm in trying. I have seen on TV some group of people swimming in lake Michigan during winter.

This is not a joke. Please take photos while swimming and post it here.

Introduce Yourself / Reply: About Joey Tabaco
January 05, 2008, 05:40:07 PM
Sir Joey,

Welcome to Tubag Bohol and wish you a happy New Year.

I was very much entertained by your posts and I can not contain my smiles. You sound very much like my father who is also a veteran and worked in the Pacific, Wake Island for years before it was turned into a missile testing ground in 1972. Your American type of humor & wits always reminds me of my father’s collection of Bob Hope tapings. I also remembered seeing a picture of the Tabaco family in one of my father’s book collection, the Bohol Circle in black & white. Probably that was your Dad.

You came to Bohol in 1966 the year I was born. You were probably like a celebrity back then with your American accent. However, despite of this wide generation gap, you generously shared your seasoned thoughts/experiences to us and we are very grateful.

I was once a fan of your tabacofamily.com site since 2004, though I never registered as a member. There is a page therein that has links to almost all Philippine web sites including the Bohol Chronicle.

The one I am most interested about in your site is the Bisaya Hervas or the Visherb alphabet, which is long extinct form of writing (I found it only in your web site). I copied that weird looking fonts and instructions on how to use it. Since then, I used it for encrypting secret codes and experimented using it in poetry (balak), visualizing myself as caught in a time warp to the past.

Probably your job as a "twister hunter" is demanding too much of your adrenaline that forbids you from gaining fats. Well, I happened to read an article that says grains (including rice), sugars and a corn diet introduced by the Spaniards has caused the demise of and American Indian tribe. Our bodies were of hunter gatherer which survives on a diet similar to a rabbit consisting of few vegetation and small meat. Evidence from the bones tells that those tribes became obese. I will try to search that article from my archives and share it with you.

Once again, thank you Sir Joey and I look forward to reading more of your entertaining thoughts.

that is really a very good idea Mackz...

Congratulations for having a new member on the way...

;)

Actually, we are not the only ones who think about this idea.

It is already practiced long time back, like Amazon is basically doing right now.

There are several Logistics Companies such as Expeditors.com who engaged in such activity servicing giants such as Wall Mart. One of their executives visited our company and showed us their humble beginnings. Their business also started from this concept.

Howerver, our advantage right now is that we Boholanos are scattered all over the globe. We invade every country, being a viahero in our blood. Suwaji ug gawas karon unja singgit ug “Mga Kaliwat ni Dagohoy!”, di ba naay mo duol nimo ug mangutana, asa diay ka sa Bohol. I mean look at this advantage, look at this vast pool of resources. Dili na ta kinahanglan mag tukod ug office kay naa na mo diha. Dili na ta kinahanglan mag rent ug warehouse, you can use your back-yard. Most of all, I believe in the competitive caliber of the Boholano professional. We don’t need to invest a lot in order to start.

I talked to Mike months back and he is supporting this idea.

Macks, paapila ko dear...

Sure, the reason I made my thoughts open is for all Boholanos to join in this experiment, learn the lessons and put it into practice.

Kung dili ta mo venture ug trading, ang kwarta sa Bohol nag libot-libot lang ug sometimes mo drain pagawas, specially nga naa nay daghang foreign firms & establishments sa Bohol.

I encourage all OFW's to put some savings in their bank in Bohol &  to prepare themselves for the reintegration.

My vision, is someday Boholanos will go abroad for relaxation or business trip.

Thanks Lindy,

Your thread/idea encouraged me to pursue on the realization of my long imagined theory.

We can therefore name this venture/experiment after your thread "We are Bargain Hunters. Are you?"

This is just a sort of a fun activity at the same time beneficial/fruitful.

By the way, my objective is to trade 1st hand products which are already depreciated in your host country but still expensive in other places.

It is just a sort of relaxation, while you are shopping, you may note some items which are cheap and list it.

We will organize all the data in later stage.

Will update you. Cheers!

Verywell Ginger, lets start the experiment at this point. I will check the final price of Canon EOS 5d from here and let us calculate the profitability if sold there in your place.

Thanks guys for the interest.

Possible man kung may contribution ang tanan in terms of 'lihok' and I have seen this spirit of cooperation in the recent EB in Tagbilaran. Communication element is OK (check), physical element is proven OK (check), shipping element is OK, I will take care of that. The only missing element is the supply/merchandise. Please think of something cheap in your place and list it.

We will see after my plan is finalized.

Ginger,

Are you interested to join in this experiment.

I am in the process of writing the plan and put this plan into action / feasibility study. Experiment lang. Hope nga mo salir kining akong theory.

Can I sign you in?

If you are interested, think of something nga barato kaayo diha ug halos na lang ipanghatag. Make a list and keep it.
#2017
Salamat ligiah for sharing the pics.

I will follow your advise.

Daghang i-adjust.

Grazie,

I am also a bargain hunter.

Based on the fact nga naay mga butang nga barato sa inyong dapit ug halos ipanghatag/ipanglabay na, pero mahal diri sa among dapit, let me propose an experiment nga based on this opportunity, we will make a sort of trading. Kung mo click ni, dako ni nga sapi nga makapundo ta ug funds sa Tubag Bohol for a noble cause with  less risk & effort. Also who knows this would bring us fortune pohon para dili na ta mo langyaw kay mingaw, unya brain-drain na ang Bohol, looy ang nangabilin.

I am well experience in international trading ug gi sayangan ko ani nga opportunity kung atong palabyon kay every member of Tubo is a representative to the country he/she is staying, so ikaw ang representative diha sa California for example. I have already sent PM to other TuBo members in Europe and they are willing to participate in this experiment.

I will make a plan and I am determined. Mag coordinate ra unya ko nimo by Feb or Mid of this Lucky year 2008.

I wish to congratulate Ethel Gladys L. Bonite, daughter of Tubag Bohol's Engr. Elias ‘Dong’ Bonite who was offered half-scholarship in International Graduate University (IGU), Capitol Hills Campus, Washington D.C.

She will be taking up Masters Degree in Business Administration and Management.

She’s flying today, 27 December 2007 to USA via Korean Airlines and is reporting to IGU on January 3, 2008.

Ethel is a graduate of BS Mass Communications in Dominican College, San Juan Metro Manila.

I can imagine how proud a father is Dong right now.

Wish Ethel success in her new endeavor and hope one day she could be one of Bohol’s great achievers.

With land mass & territorial waters representing one fifth of the Philippine territory, proportionately a 20% mount to our ailing economy, should Sabah be claimed.

A far effortless remedy, compared to sacrificing millions of OFWs, just to improve 7%.

Not to mention its rich fishing grounds, timberland and mineral resources. Also holds the stragegic "balabac" navigation straight, a shortest route from the Pacific to South China Sea passing Surigao.

We hold all the historical evidence/authentic documents needed and it is a matter of determination to claim what is ours. We are not paying our diplomats just to sit and drink coffee.

During my elementary years, I remembered Sabah as part of the Philippine Map.

Bitaw diri sa Saudi mas daghan ug Tocmo bisan disyerto man unta, unya dili pa mahadlok sa mga tao. Dili man uso diri ang animal hunting.

Daghan pod diri isda kay controlled man sa gobierno ang fishing. Certains fishes will be banned during spawning season. Sa ato walay regulation ang gobierno basta makasapi lang sila. Wala nila gi tan-aw ang future sa country & resources.

This is near the site where I took the migrating Flamingoes earlier today. See photos of your new countries thread in Bohol Testimonials.

As promised to you, here below are the photos of the flamingoes.

I was driving to office when I noticed a pinkish white flock in the water. Immediately I rushed to the scene and carefully positioned myself to the best angle.

Can’t imagine how I crawled, moving in slow motion, as not to scare these magnificent birds. This is the closest I could get. Shhhh! hold your breath, do not make a sudden move, hold your otot.

And here they are folks, the magnificent flamingoes.

Thanks G@len for the input. I am sure Mr. Benny and Jun are taking notes.

To make Bohol Inc. a big success, we need merger of great minds. Without a doubt, we Filipinos are brilliant and I believe in Filipino creativity and ingenuity.

However, before I would continue, allow me to remind that call centers exits due to a great demand on human services. What I mean human services are various tasks that can not be replaced by automation or artificial intelligence.

Moreover, let me remind everybody that in planning a business structure, you must not constrain your ideas to present technology. Please note that technologies were created/upgraded to serve a demand. I have repeatedly stressed this rule in my previous threads.

To be competitive, we have to develop a better, more sophisticated system on whatever business venture we wish to embark. Not just follow/copy on existing ones.

Every one of us in Tubag Bohol has his/her own areas of specialty. I urge everyone, to share their thoughts and ideas. Even ridiculous ones will do. The secret is to believe in yourself, think big, think outside the box.

Important note: Planning a business should be done in closed doors, as somebody might copy our ideas and launch it first. Maybe we should keep certain level of exposure to the public and keep it in PM during finalization stage. This is important otherwise opportunities will slip from our hands. I suggest our admin Mike should assign a moderator for such topic.

Really, Orchid hunting is an adventure.

I saw one documentary in National Geographic featuring Tom Dyke an orchid hunter by passion. He travelled around the world in quest for rare orchids and he documented all his travels. One of the exciting part is where he was in Darien Gap, Panama where he was kidnapped and held hostaged by guerillas for nine months. Also he was suspended in a cliff of Papua new guinea as high as the Angel falls, just to get a rare orchid. The rope was jammed that nearly took his life.

He chetted death many times for this passion. However, he described it as self fulfilling and not to mention the huge cash for a rare find.

His passion of orchid hunting he said, is itself very unusual/rare for males.

Dear Benylene

I met somebody who formerly works as a supervisor in a call centre and gathered valuable data from him. Moreover, I made a brief research on the basic structure of a call centre operations and below are my findings.

Basic Elements & Functions:
1. Materials: Hi-speed connection, VOIP, Computers, server, networking hub, router, UPS to anticipate brown-outs, Generators, headset, office, software (operations and accounting), Web Site with affiliation to Paypal, Visa or Mastercard.

2. Legal requirements: SEC registration, Bank Account, Insurance and other local permits.

3. Database & Research / Survey Team
International Team that constantly searches / buys phone number databases & emails of potential customers. This is also called the life-blood of the business as without data, a call center can not exist.

4. Outbound Team
They are the Sales Team & telemarketers selling products/services to customers found in the database. They are the door-knockers.

5. Inbound Team
After Sales Service. Responds to incoming calls, customer queries, provides technical information from calls initiated by the outbound team or from companies who subscribe from your call. They can also act as telemarketers opening further opportunities.

6. Human Resource / Training
Recruitment and Training of personnel. Quality control/ Employee performace evaluation.

7. Marketing Team
Promotes the call center to outsourcing companies. Searches for Potential products/services to be represented by the call center (where most of it are niche products). They negotiate corporate deals, local and international.

8. I.T. Department:
Maintains the software/hardware/networking materials. Maintains connectivity / signal quality. Maintains the web site, creates links and interface from outsourcing company to end-user.

9. Finance/Accounts / Billing Team
Maintains the cashflow of the company. Determines profit & Loss. Logistics/purchase can be part of this team since it plays only minor role in a call centre.

10. Management:
The board of Directors. Policy making and spearheading company’s direction. Operations can be part of this team and assign somebody with double but related roles (to save overhead budget) while in infancy stage.

Basic package for telemarketers (NCR rate) ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 pesos plus commission.

In summary, the deeper you go, the more complex you will find it. However, does not mean impossible. I still believe there’s a huge potential & opportunity for a call centre in Bohol.

This is based only on my shallow research and limited knowledge. Perhaps TB members with hands-on experience could shed light.

Moreover, its in the name. More on human psychology.

Ikea sounds like "Idea".

Theres a part in the human mind that links things to any similarity it could find. This part of the mind is part of the unconcious and it never sleeps.

Like the 911 is linked to the twin tower that represents two standing towers. Silly isnt it? But its true.

So next time you plan an enterprise name, use this principle.

You heard it first in Tubag Bohol by Macky.

Maybe we could make a product named: Tubag Bohol Ointment, makatambal sa mga Hubag ug Bunol. Doesnt it sound the same and there is a sense.

I have seen this just now and sorry for this late reply. I am busy with work these days doing year-end routine.

Tubag Bohol is Gods blessing to the Boholanos all over the world.

Really, Boholanos are reunited through this web site and as I ponder, a thought of a new definition for Tubag Bohol as “the Heart of Bohol”. This web site gives me such a wonderful feeling I could not explain.

My dear friends, no amount gratitude can be told for unselfishly sharing your time, knowledge/ideas, laughter, music, photos and profound sentiments.

Simply I thank you for the genuine friendship I found only in Tubag Bohol.

Special thanks to Mike Ligalig for his dedication and sacrifices to keep this running.

Long live TB Community! :) :) :)

It is possible.

Their products are Household fixtures which is non-food / non-perishable merchandise.

Household fixtures are low risk merchandise, and you don’t need to pay insurance.

Moreover, they are sourcing 90% of their materials from China, a cheap source.

Ekea focused on practicality & utility rather than quality and craftsmanship. Affordable household fixtures for the masses (for all income levels), which is an opposite for a high value niche product.

They are importing as well as retailing what they have imported. That means the profitability per item (SKU) ranges from 140% to 200%. Remarkable.

Good idea.

Talk of the Town / Re: A State University in Bohol?

Central Visayas State College of Fisheries and Technology (CVSCAFT) or Bilar Agricultural College (BAC).

This brings me fund memories. I was the assistant resident engineer back then when this was restored to it's former glory, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Engr. Dong-dong Manug was the resident engineer. That was in 1988 - 1989 if I'm not mistaken.

Being a part voluntary job, I can not forget the amazing camaraderie of the workforce. Almost all night is grill, hinalang & tuba night. Every single day is a happy day. The workplace view is spectacular, back drafted by Rajah Sikatuna mountains, cool forest breeze, for me it is better than Baguio.

Everything is vivid in my memory, almost I can smell the aroma of roasted chicken &  freshly harvested tuba. Most of all, the eternal visayan songs of the veteran pandays & labors. One of the pandays is the old Ruper, he was the old guitarist of DYHP Cebu and the one who played the guitar when the "Matud Nila" was first recorded. He have this famous "gitik" of his guitara. Old folks in Bilar are mostly musicians. There were families names like Kahoy, Suaybaguio, Palacio, Pernia, Bargayo, Sumampong, Llano. Most of the workers are my relatives, but being born and raised in Tagbilaran, it was my great chance to meet them in the eye. I can not forget the late Ading, late Fidel, the late Claro Curit & late Vic Pabe (my relative). There was this musician/singer Cahoy who got married with the contractor's daughter Lynn from Leyte.

Being a down-to-earth person, I learned too many skills from old pandays, not to mention the balaks and the lyrics of old visayan songs. There, I crafted my first "sapilya", taken from a salvaged tugas wood. The building was pre-war and 100 years old. Amazingly, the wood used was still durable and they called it "Tugas Lanahan" because of it's oily property.

My favorite past time then was exploring the nearby forest by foot. Tracing the origin of the creek. Catching freshwater fish & crabs by night and cooking it to become a sum-suman along with grilled or hinalang style chicken donated by the students.

The place was natural wonder, airconditioner: breeze from the forest, music: from the "gangis" (cicada) and songbirds. Voices from the night creatures and the crickets is enough to give you a sound sleep.

It was my first major assignment from my engineering profession and from there, I learned responsibility and independence.

However, I am a misfit in profession at present.

I am sick of this discussion.

Beggars are everywhere. The real difinition of beggar is fit people who can not stand on thier own and are always dependent on other people.

In the upper class society, in the Malacanang, there are lots of beggars. High profile beggars, shall I call. They always beg for favor, beg for political blessing, beg for funds.

Begging has become a syndrome of the society. You can always know from a person if that begging urge is there, though thier puppy-look stare (sorry, I borrowed this from RV).

In my perspective, the street beggars and these high profile ones are the same.

Goosebumps in my Stomach - haha, nice one.

Just like the one I overheard (this is real and not made up). In Saudi, there are many 500cc motorcycle gangs. When two groups meet, they will always engage in an exhibition or 'pasikat' contest like wheelie or tire scretching. I overheared one motorist shouting 'eat my heart out' instead of 'eat your heart out'. This is the price for trying-hard.

My better half is my classmate in University of Holbot or Bohol (UB) during the mid 80's, taking up BS Civil Engineering. Engr. Jess B. Tirol was our dean. It was the time when Singers unite to put a noble meaning to music and created the song with the words "We are the world, we are the children and so on."

Apan napadpad kami sa halayong gingharian ug wala mo tunong ang among mga curso. My wife former Johde Taray has now a noble job of a housewife and myself as a Marketing Analyst. We were married since 1996 after a 10 long years of engagement.

People in Saudi Arabia are sucker for soccer football. It was their national league championship when I took the photos last week. People were glued to their TV sets and the streets literally deserted. An opportunity I've long waited to shoot a seemingly uninhabited place.

Don’t ask me what happened next after the match ended. I hurried back home, anticipating a flood of noisy cars & flag waving youths in the streets (fans of the winning team).

Probably by first week of December, migratory wintering birds from Europe will flock our place. Our place is a migratory path for Cranes, pink flamingos, wild ducks, geese, small blue/greenish ducks, seagulls and variety of mallard family. It seems they selected our place as stop-over because nobody harms them.

The place is shown below just in front of where I live.

This is our place in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, a sea side city. Before, this place was a dessert. But now that is the only diminishing thing. Everything here is man-made.

This place is called the Corniche, a people’s part. But where are the people? Just like RV’s photos, you can barely see any person.

Another Transformer:

I am looking forward to share with you the recently built New Corniche and the desalination plant where we convert salt water into freshwater. 100% man-made. Even folliage here is genetically engineered drought resistant. Here, it rains only twice a year.

General Topic / Re: The Wisdom of the Lord: Evolution
November 15, 2007, 07:22:59 PM
I agree that the creator of the universe has put all the laws of physics and biology in order.

When the word of God was introduced to mankind, I believed it was written in simple language because during that time, there were no scientists and the way of thinking is simple.

However, God has given mankind the gift of thought, imagination and logic. Such gift enables us to understand His glory by observing the universe. I believed everything you see around you is a manifistation of God and an open book.

I believe in evolution. Some people may deny it and I say they are wrongly/literaly translating the word of God. Doing so is puting a limit to God's power. One proof is how a Virus could evolve so quickly into another resistant strain in just one incubation cycle. However, a virus baffles scientist as it is only a crystal which is non-living.

There are many mind boggling things in the universe which is beyond the comprehension of today's human mind. Yet as per the holy sriptures, we are given the intellect and free will to study all these mysterious things.

With Einstein's theories, it is very possible to create the universe in 7 days because time is only one dimension. In a static universe, there is no future and past, all is now. Time can be fast or slow and it depends on the eye of the observer. There are unimaginable matters in space like a whole galaxy compressed into a size of a teaspoon and all these are the wonders of God.

Call center is one nice idea Mr. Benelyne. It is lucrative, it needs only a minimum initial capital and it is a low risk venture. However, let us not forget that call centers have already reached its predominant stage. That means you are not alone, but you have to deal with lots of competition from various companies in order to grab a share in the market place.

So, this is just one of the idea and let us not limit our minds to existing businesses that we saw and heared. Think of something new, unique, something innovative, think outside the box. Think of something that yields exponential growth with less input, less effort and low risk.

Once you come up with an idea, you have to do the SWOT analysis(Strenth, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats).

Yes, a call centre could be something good to start with.

Over and above, a company has to be built first to host the business. This company must consist of strong leaders, must have a noble vision with policies built on ethics (pro-labor, pro-environment).

I am thinking of something and will come back on this thread soon.

The only way to solve insurgency is to legalize Communism. Why are we afraid of communism when it is no longer a threat to the world. Russia & China have given up the ideals of communism. Only Cuba is the remaining solid communist regime in the world today and there is even no connection between communist Cuba and our communist party.

My analysis is that the present administration is afraid not of the communist, but to loose its grip of the Philippine Army. Simple logic, if there is no more communist insurgency, there is no need for the army. Hence, people may start asking where the budget for the military has been spent when there is no more army.

Now, it is easy to say, we buy 50 APC or 80 Helicopters, 5,000 RPGs...etc. For what?, to combat a small group of poorly armed rebels? I am skeptical.

The Miss Earth beauty pageant began seven years ago, when Carousel Productions, Inc. of the Philippines failed to get the rights to produce the Miss Asia-Pacific pageant.

From its humble beginnings, the Miss Earth pageant is now one of the top four beauty pageants in the world (according to GlobalBeauties.com) , the rest being the Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss International competitions.

This is a best example of power of positive thinking.

When somebody turned your idea down, don’t give up and move on.

Consider the first turn down as one opinion and move on for more opinion. Don’t give up until the whole world tells you have a bad idea.

If nobody buys your idea now, just keep it for future opportunity. Nobody knows tomorrow.

Another example is the YouTube. During their infancy stage, uploading / downloading a video clip is time consuming and there were many critics. But now, look at the millions of clips being uploaded /exchanged worldwide.

The lesson is, don’t limit your ideas to present technology or present situation. Again nobody knows tomorrow.
