MANILA, Philippines - The 23-year-old son of actor Cesar Montano committed suicide in their home in Quezon City on Friday morning apparently due to a "love" problem.

Initial police reports said Christian Angelo Manhilot, the actor's son with his first wife, shot himself in the head with a .45 pistol inside their house along Yakal Street, Tivoli Royale subdivision in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City at around 6 a.m..

Radio DZMM reported that, according to Manhilot's helpers, Christian Angelo took his own life allegedly due to problems with his girlfriend.

The report said Christian Angelo was talking to someone over the phone before he ended his life.

In an earlier interview, Superintendent Chris Mendoza, commander of the Batasan Police Station, said Manhilot was rushed to Malvar Hospital in Quezon City and was declared dead at 6:40 a.m.. The boy died of a single gunshot wound in the head.

He said that household helper Alicia Pancho was the one who discovered the victim in the kitchen located at the 2nd floor of the Manhilots' house.

Pancho called the police station at the subdivision’s security quarters, the police commander said.

He said crime scene investigators found the boy’s bloodied body slumped in one corner of the kitchen with a .45 pistol by his side.

Aside from the gun, a landline phone and a cellular phone were also found near the boy’s body.

No to autopsy

Cesar Montano, father of Christian Angelo, reportedly rejected an autopsy for his son since he believes his son really took his own life. He also believes there was no foul play, radio DZMM said.

According to Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) chief Inspector Rizaldy Odi, who went in Manhilot's house, they read a text message allegedly from the boy's girlfriend saying that she had already forgiven him if he was asking for forgiveness.

The report said Christian Angelo was able to reply to his girlfriend before the unfortunate incident.

Montano was not home when the incident happened as he was busy campaigning in Bohol.

The incident happened during Friday's kick-off of the campaign for the local elections.

Montano is running for governor of Bohol.

Thanks for the curiousity regarding the PROVINCAIL TOURISM POLICE CHIEF.

He was stationed in Panglao and is now taking on another position at Camp Dagohoy.

Ace Durano is tourism secretary of Philippines exacto jyud.

I think if anyone ever wanted to ask him how much foreigner dollars have helped out here in the Philippines should ask this guy, regardless if your an OFW making money abroad or marreid to a foreigner over seas or a tourist the foreigners have helped this country with overseas dollars for a long time paranoid as they maybe or not!
so your friend is a tourism police chief stationed in panglao not the tourism chief. i thought your close to one of the former 4 tourism secretaries or with ace durano.

Technology / iPhone App to Sidestep AT & T
March 26, 2010, 09:27:18 PM
by David Pogue
Thursday, March 25, 2010
provided by

For a little $1 iPhone app, Line2 sure has the potential to shake up an entire industry.

It can save you money. It can make calls where AT&T's (T) signal is weak, like indoors. It can turn an iPod Touch into a full-blown cellphone.

And it can ruin the sleep of cellphone executives everywhere.

Line2 gives your iPhone a second phone number -- a second phone line, complete with its own contacts list, voice mail, and so on. The company behind it, Toktumi (get it?), imagines that you'll distribute the Line2 number to business contacts, and your regular iPhone number to friends and family. Your second line can be an 800 number, if you wish, or you can transfer an existing number.

To that end, Toktumi offers, on its Web site, a raft of Google (GOOG) Voice-ish features that are intended to help a small businesses look bigger: call screening, Do Not Disturb hours and voice mail messages sent to you as e-mail. You can create an "automated attendant" -- "Press 1 for sales," "Press 2 for accounting," and so on -- that routes incoming calls to other phone numbers. Or, if you're pretending to be a bigger business than you are, route them all to yourself.

The Line2 app is a carbon copy, a visual clone, of the iPhone's own phone software. The dialing pad, your iPhone Contacts list, your recent calls list and visual voice mail all look just like the iPhone's.

So you have a second line on your iPhone. But that's not the best part.

Line2 also turns the iPhone into a dual-mode phone. That is, it can make and receive calls either using either the AT&T airwaves as usual, or -- now this is the best part -- over the Internet. Any time you're in a wireless hot spot, Line2 places its calls over Wi-Fi instead of AT&T's network.

That's a game-changer. Where, after all, is cellphone reception generally the worst? Right -- indoors. In your house or your office building, precisely where you have Wi-Fi. Line2 in Wi-Fi means rock-solid, confident reception indoors.

Line2 also runs on the iPod Touch. When you're in a Wi-Fi hot spot, your Touch is now a full-blown cellphone, and you don't owe AT&T a penny.

But wait, there's more.

Turns out Wi-Fi calls don't use up any AT&T minutes. You can talk all day long, without ever worrying about going over your monthly allotment of minutes. Wi-Fi calls are free forever.

Well, not quite free; Line2 service costs $15 a month (after a 30-day free trial).

But here's one of those cases where spending more could save you money. If you're in a Wi-Fi hot spot most of the time (at work, for example), that's an awful lot of calling you can do in Wi-Fi -- probably enough to downgrade your AT&T plan to one that gives you fewer minutes. If you're on the 900-minute or unlimited plan ($90 or $100 a month), for example, you might be able to get away with the 450-minute plan ($70). Even with Line2's fee, you're saving $5 or $15 a month.

Line2 also lets you call overseas phone numbers for Skype-like rates: 2 to 5 cents a minute to most countries. (A full table of rates is available at toktumi.com.) As a handy globetrotters' bonus, calls home to numbers in the United States from overseas hot spots are free.

All of these benefits come to you when you're in a Wi-Fi hot spot, because your calls are carried by the Internet instead of by AT&T. Interestingly enough, though, Line2 can also make Internet calls even when you're not in a hot spot.

It can, at your option, place calls over AT&T's 3G data network, where it's available. Every iPhone plan includes unlimited use of this 3G network -- it's how your iPhone sends e-mail and surfs the Web. So once again, Line2 calls don't use up any of your monthly voice minutes.

Unfortunately, voice connections on the 3G network aren't as strong and reliable as the voice or Wi-Fi methods. Cellular data networks aren't made for seamless handoffs from cell tower to tower as you drive, for example -- there's not much need for it if you're just doing e-mail and Web -- so dropped calls are more likely. Fortunately, if you're on a 3G data-network call and you walk into a hot spot, Line2 switches to the more reliable Wi-Fi network seamlessly, in midcall.

Whenever you do have an Internet connection -- either Wi-Fi or a strong 3G area -- you're in for a startling treat. If you and your calling partner are both Line2 subscribers, Line2 kicks you into superhigh audio-quality mode (16-bit mode, as the techies call it).

Your calling partners sound as if they're speaking right into the mike at an FM radio station. It's almost too clear; you hear the other person's breathing, lip smacks, clothing rustling and so on. After years of suffering through awful cellphone audio, it's quite a revelation to hear what you've been missing.

Now, this all sounds wonderful, and Line2 generally is wonderful. But there's room for improvement.

First, as you've no doubt already concluded, understanding Line2 is complicated. You have three different ways to make calls, each with pros and cons.

You miss a certain degree of refinement, too. The dialing pad doesn't make touch-tone sounds as you tap the keys. There's no Favorites list within the Line2 app. You can't get or send text messages on your Line2 line. (The company says it will fix all this soon.)

There's a faint hiss on Line2 calls, as if you're on a long-distance call in 1970. The company says that it deliberately introduces this "comfort noise" to reassure you that you're still connected, but it's unnecessary. And sometimes there's a voice delay of a half-second or so (of course, you sometimes get that on regular cellphone calls, too).

Finally, a note about incoming calls. If the Line2 app is open at the time, you're connected via Wi-Fi, if available. If it's not running, the call comes in through AT&T, so you lose the benefits of Wi-Fi calling. In short, until Apple blesses the iPhone with multitasking software, you have to leave Line2 open whenever you put the phone to sleep. That's awkward.

Still, Line2 is the first app that can receive incoming calls via either Wi-Fi or cellular voice, so you get the call even if the app isn't running. That's one of several advantages that distinguish it from other voice-over-Internet apps like Skype and TruPhone.

Another example: If you're on a Wi-Fi call using those other programs, and someone calls your regular iPhone number, your first call is unceremoniously disconnected. Line2, on the other hand, offers you the chance to decline the incoming call without losing your Wi-Fi call.

Those rival apps also lack Line2's call-management features, visual voice mail and conference calling with up to 20 other people. And Line2 is the only app that gives you a choice of call methods for incoming and outgoing calls.

All of this should rattle cell industry executives, because let's face it: the Internet tends to make things free. Cell carriers go through life hoping nobody notices the cellephant in the room: that once everybody starts making free calls over the Internet, it's Game Over for the dollars-for-minutes model.

Line2, however, brings us one big step closer to that very future. It's going to be a wild ride.

CEBU CITY, March 18 (PNA) - Cebu City officials are pushing for the construction of P400-million market complex that will house all three units of the Carbon market in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City.

Cebu City Councilor Jose Daluz lll said they will propose to Mayor Tomas Osmena to build one big complex that will house vendors who were displaced when Carbon Unit 2 was gutted by fire in 1998, and vendors occupying Unit 1 and Unit 3.

Daluz said they will iron out all the unresolved issues concerning the construction of the market so that when the next administration takes over, the construction can be prioritized and funded immediately.

Among the issues that has to be settled is the case that Young Builders field against the city to demand payment for initial works it undertook in the reconstruction of Unit 2.

The councilor sought the legal office's recommendation on whether or not the city can pursue the project even with the ongoing court case.

City Attorney Joseph Bernaldez said that there is no legal prohibition for the project to proceed since the court did not issue an injunction order.

Daluz said that even with the recommendation, there will be no time for the present administration to implement the project, and no program of works and estimate (POWE) has been made for it yet.

Even if the legal office said it's okay to proceed, there is no POWE on that and no supplemental budget to charge it to. That is why we are preparing all the necessary documents so that when the new administration takes over, we can immediately proceed with the project, he said.

Bernaldez said the city can construct anything it wants in the market since the court has not decided yet on the case that Young Builders filed.

Unit 2 of the Carbon Public Market was burned in 1998, and the stallholders and vendors have been waiting for the city to rebuild it.

Young Builders had been awarded by the previous administration the contract to reconstruct the burnt building for P22 million, but technical problems like unauthorized variation orders and lack of building permit prompted the Osmena administration to cancel the contract.

Instead of reconstructing the Unit 2 building, Osmena then decided to build a P135-million ramp so motorists can use it to go through M.C. Briones and clear Quezon Blvd. of vehicular traffic.

The P6 million Young Builders is collecting is the amount for additional works not covered in the contract it entered into with the City Government. (PNA)

By Nicci Micco

Recently, a friend who was eating with me appeared shocked as I spread full-fat natural peanut butter on my whole-wheat toast. Isn’t peanut butter super-fattening, she asked? It’s high in fat but that doesn’t mean it’s fattening, I told her, noting that gaining or losing weight, and body fat, basically comes down to balancing calories. Knowing my master’s work focused on weight loss, she took my word on this. (Find easy, quick and delicious 500-Calorie Dinners to help you lose.)

That said, peanut butter is a concentrated source of calories, so you don’t want to go overboard. But you don’t need to eat tons of the stuff to feel satisfied: just a tablespoon (90 calories) or two of peanut butter goes a long way. I eat peanut butter nearly every day because it tastes so good and it’s really nutritious. Peanut butter provides protein and folate, a B vitamin important for the healthy development of new cells. (See the winners of our Natural Peanut Butter Taste Test.)

As a nutritionist, I often encounter people who fear healthful foods because these foods have somehow gotten bad reps they just can’t shake. Peanut butter is a common one. Here are four more “misunderstood” foods and why you should eat themâ€"in moderation, of course.

Eggs
The bad rep: A significant source of dietary cholesterol, egg yolks are off-limits for those concerned about heart health.
The good truth: Medical experts now emphasize that saturated fats and trans fats are bigger culprits in raising blood cholesterol than dietary cholesterol is. Plus, eggs are super-satisfying: in one study, people who ate a scrambled-egg-and-toast breakfast felt more satisfied, and ate less at lunch, than they did when they ate a bagel that had the same number of calories. Egg yolks contain lutein and zeaxanthin, compounds that research links with reduced risk for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in people over 50.

Beef
The bad rep: Beef is full of saturated fat and dietary cholesterol, so people who care about their hearts should avoid it.
The good truth: Lean cuts of beef are a low-fat source of protein and iron, a mineral essential for getting oxygen from the lungs to cells throughout the bodyâ€"and one many women (of childbearing age) are deficient in. There are many lean cuts of steaks: filet mignon, sirloin, strip steak, flank steak. If you can’t remember the names, pick steaks that are deep red with a relatively small amount of marblingâ€"a fancy name for fatâ€"to find lean cuts.

Chocolate
The bad rep: Chocolate has lots of fat, lots of sugarâ€"and it tastes amazing, so it must be bad for you.
The good news: Dark chocolate contains flavanols, antioxidants that seem to have a blood-thinning effect, which can benefit cardiovascular health. And, recently, researchers in Switzerland reported that eating dark chocolate (1.4 ounces of it) every day for two weeks reduced stress hormones, including cortisol, in highly stressed people. But be sure to account for the calories (1.4 ounces delivers 235)â€"or you may be stressed to see extra pounds creeping on.

Potatoes
The bad rep: Potatoes rank high on the glycemic index, which measures how quickly different foods raise your blood sugar. Foods with a high GI value tend to cause a higher spike in blood sugarâ€"and in insulin, the hormone that helps glucose get into cellsâ€"which can be a problem for some people, particularly those with diabetes.

The good news: Potatoes are a good source of fiber, potassium and vitamin C. And unless you’re eating an absolutely plain potato all by itself, its GI value doesn’t matter. (It’s also worth noting that the glycemic index is an imperfect and controversial scale.) A high-GI potato becomes a low-GI meal if you simply add a little olive oil, because the added fat helps slow the absorption of the potato’s carbohydrates.

By Michelle Edelbaum

(Michelle is the associate editor of interactive for EatingWell Media Group. In between editing and writing, she enjoys sampling the tasty results of the easy, healthy recipes that the EatingWell Test Kitchen cooks are working on.)

Since I’ve become a mom, it’s a challenge for me to get enough sleep. It’s become harder for me to fall asleep because I’m thinking about work, the baby, all the stuff that needs to be done around the house, what to make for dinner the next night...and the list goes on. (At least I’ve got a handle on the dinner thingâ€"I either make one of these cheap, 30-minute dinner recipes or make a super-easy meal in my slow cooker.)

I’m not OK with getting less than the recommended 8 to 9 hours per night, since sleep is so important to my health and my figure (research links weight gain with sleep loss). (Find 5 foods that do the weight-loss work for you here.)

So in the interest of giving myself the best chance for a good night’s sleep (especially with the spring time change), I took a look at advice from EatingWell Nutrition Advisory Board member Dr. Rachel Johnson on which foods and drinks can help promote better sleep. Here’s what the research says:

Carbohydrate-Rich Dinners (This one works!): A light bedtime snack can stave off hunger, a known sleep robber. But eating quickly-digested carbs (a.k.a, “high-glycemic-index” or “GI” carbohydrates such as jasmine rice) hours earlier at dinnerâ€"might also help. A study found that when healthy sleepers ate carbohydrate-rich suppers of veggies and tomato sauce over rice, they fell asleep significantly faster at bedtime if the meal included high-GI jasmine rice rather than lower-GI long-grain rice. The study authors speculated that the high-GI meals triggered greater amounts of insulin, which increased the ratio of tryptophan relative to other amino acids in the blood, allowing proportionately more to get into the brain and make people drowsy.

Warm Milk: Decades ago, scientists looked into this folk remedy and posited that tryptophan, an amino acid in milk (and turkey), might be responsible for its supposed sleep-inducing effects. Earlier research had shown that when tryptophan is released into the brain, it produces serotoninâ€"a serenity-boosting neurotransmitter. But when milk (and other tryptophan-rich foods) were tested, they failed to affect sleep patterns, perhaps because other amino acids in those foods competed with tryptophan to get into the brain. Warm milk at bedtime may be comforting, but it won’t boost sleep-promoting serotonin.

Herbal Tea: Chamomile, lemon balm, hops and passionflower are all touted for their sleep-promoting properties. You’ll often find them in “sleep-formula” tea blends, but unfortunately their effectiveness hasn’t been proven in clinical studies, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Some experts say that these teas may work for some, and a warm liquid before bed may make you sleepy by generating body heat. That said, a cup of “sleep-time” tea might be worth a try.

Caffeine: Caffeine affects everyone differently, so if you’re sensitive it might be worth trying to cut downâ€"or limit caffeine to the morning only. This can mean more than just cutting out a cup of coffee. The major sources of caffeine in Americans’ diets are coffee (71 percent), soft drinks (16 percent) and teas (12 percent) but chocolate is also a source. Our ability to excrete caffeine decreases with age so while you might have tolerated four cups of coffee a day when you were 20, you’ll probably need to cut down as you get older. Cut down on caffeine or limit it to the morning; if insomnia persists, consider going cold turkey. Try this drink to cure a headache & 4 more home remedies for common ailments.

Alcohol: Though a glass of wine may help you fall asleep, excessive alcohol use can make you wake up in the night. One theory is that alcohol suppresses the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep state that’s critical to a good night’s sleep. Drink moderately, if at all; avoid drinking within a few hours of bedtime.

Sleep Supplements: Shelves in supplement stores are stacked with sleep formulas. According to one NIH survey conducted in 2002, 1.6 million people tried complementary or alternative therapies like these, and over half of them reported their insomnia improved “a great deal.” However, those glowing anecdotes haven’t been backed up by rigorous scientific study; evaluations of most nutritional supplements haven’t shown any effects whatsoever. The one exception is valerian root, which seemed to help improve sleep (with rare, and mild, side effects, such as stomach upset). But finding an effective formulation of valerian root is tricky, since the FDA doesn’t regulate herbal supplements. Don’t waste your money on sleep supplements; hold off on using valerian until standardized formulations become available.

NEW DELHI â€" For nearly 30 years, India and Bangladesh have argued over control of a tiny rock island in the Bay of Bengal. Now rising sea levels have resolved the dispute for them: the island's gone.

New Moore Island in the Sunderbans has been completely submerged, said oceanographer Sugata Hazra, a professor at Jadavpur University in Calcutta. Its disappearance has been confirmed by satellite imagery and sea patrols, he said.

"What these two countries could not achieve from years of talking, has been resolved by global warming," said Hazra.

Scientists at the School of Oceanographic Studies at the university have noted an alarming increase in the rate at which sea levels have risen over the past decade in the Bay of Bengal.

Until 2000, the sea levels rose about 3 millimeters (0.12 inches) a year, but over the last decade they have been rising about 5 millimeters (0.2 inches) annually, he said.

Another nearby island, Lohachara, was submerged in 1996, forcing its inhabitants to move to the mainland, while almost half the land of Ghoramara island was underwater, he said. At least 10 other islands in the area were at risk as well, Hazra said.

"We will have ever larger numbers of people displaced from the Sunderbans as more island areas come under water," he said.

Bangladesh, a low-lying delta nation of 150 million people, is one of the countries worst-affected by global warming. Officials estimate 18 percent of Bangladesh's coastal area will be underwater and 20 million people will be displaced if sea levels rise 1 meter (3.3 feet) by 2050 as projected by some climate models.

India and Bangladesh both claimed the empty New Moore Island, which is about 3.5 kilometers (2 miles) long and 3 kilometers (1.5 miles) wide. Bangladesh referred to the island as South Talpatti.

There were no permanent structures on New Moore, but India sent some paramilitary soldiers to its rocky shores in 1981 to hoist its national flag.

The demarcation of the maritime boundary â€" and who controls the remaining islands â€" remains an open issue between the two South Asian neighbors, despite the disappearance of New Moore, said an official in India's foreign ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on international disputes.

Bangladesh officials were not available for comment Wednesday.

Inspiration & Hope / Trees That Wood
March 25, 2010, 05:41:24 AM
Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."
Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."

Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me."

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter" ... and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one", and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark. The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time. Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

On a farm out in the country lived a man and a woman and their three
sons.

Early one morning, the woman awoke, and while looking out of the
window onto to the pasture, she saw that the family's only cow was
lying dead in the field. The situation looked hopeless to her -- how
could she possibly continue to feed her family now?

In a depressed state of mind, she hung herself.

When the man awoke to find his wife dead, as well as the cow, he too
began to see the hopelessness of the situation, and he shot himself
in he head.

Now the oldest son woke up to discover his parents and the cow dead,
and he decided to go down to the river and drown himself.

When he got to the river, he discovered a mermaid sitting on the bank.

She said, "I've seen all and know the reason for your despair. But if
you will have sex with me five times in a row, I will restore your
parents and the cow to you."

The son agreed to try, but after four times, he was simply unable to
satisfy her again.

So the mermaid drowned him in the river.

Next the second oldest son woke up. After discovering what had
happened, he too decided to throw himself into the river.

The mermaid said to him, "If you will have sex with me ten times in a
row, I will make everything right."

And while the son tried his best (seven times!), it was not enough to
satisfy the mermaid, so she drowned him in the river.

The youngest son, woke up and saw his parents dead, the dead cow in
the field, and his brothers gone.

He decided that life was a hopeless prospect, and he went down to the
river to throw himself in.

And there he also met the Mermaid.

"I have seen all that has happened, and I can make everything right
if you will only have sex with me fifteen times in a row."

The young son replied, "Is that all? Why not twenty times in a row?"

The mermaid was somewhat taken aback by this request.

Then he said, "Hell, why not twenty-five times in a row?"

And even as she was reluctantly agreeing to his request, he said,
"Why not THIRTY times in a row?"

Finally, she said, "Enough!! Okay, if you will have sex with me
thirty times in a row, then I will bring everybody back to perfect
health."

Then the young fellow asked, "Wait! How do I know that thirty times
in a row won't kill you like it did the cow?"

Blood Clams: In China these clams are only flash-boiled and can contain deadly viruses like hepatitis A, E, thyphoid, and dysentery. Because they are only partially cooked, the clams become a dangerous treat.

Elderberries: While the fruit itself is not harmful, one must take caution to never ingest the stem or leaves of this highly poisonous plant.

Apricot Seeds: Did you know that cherries, apples, plums, almonds, peaches, apricots, and crabapple seeds contain as cyanogenetic glycosides, which upon ingestion releases hydrogen cyanide gas through an enzymatic reaction? That means that all of these seeds a poisonous! Roasting the seeds can help eliminate the toxins.

i think maka relate ko sa story ni jas4 bahin anang ranking. just an example, a 30 year old teacher beat out tenured teachers in getting the vacant position as a principal in a central school. the 30 year old teacher did not even experience as a head teacher but eventually became a principal. im not sure how they ranked the teachers or how they pool future principals. i think it's up what educational background a teacher have for him to be able to qualify as a principal. maybe jas4 can give us an idea how public school teachers are ranked and how the district supervisor decide who to promote.

Health and Food / 8 Foods that Fight Stress
March 24, 2010, 10:33:47 PM
Chow down on eats that tame hunger and reduce anxiety.

Eat It to Beat It
We all know that tension can wreak havoc on our eating patterns. But the right (healthy!) foods can often help tame mindless munching and cravings and, better yet, actually lower overall anxiety and its symptoms. Eight of our favorites:

Dark Chocolate
High in flavonoids, which are lauded for their relaxing properties (chamomile tea is another great source), chocolate also contains phenethylamine, a chemical that enhances your mood. The darker the chocolate, the more healthy substances you're getting in your diet, so look for bars that are 70 percent cacao or higher.

Skim Milk
Turns out that a glass of warm milk really is calming. One study found that women who drank four or more servings of lowfat or skim milk every day were about half as likely to experience stress-related PMS symptoms than those who drank less than one serving a week.

Oatmeal
Carbs help you produce serotonin, a calming hormone that helps fight anxiety's negative effects-which is probably why many of us crave them when we're stressed. Go with the craving and choose healthy sources. Oatmeal is high in fiber, which means that your body will absorb it slowly. In one fell swoop, you'll prolong the serotonin boost, keeping yourself feeling full for longer (and on less) and making sure your blood sugar's in check.

Salmon
Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids-abundant in fish like salmon-can help reverse stress symptoms by boosting serotonin levels, and that an omega-3-rich diet can also help suppress the production of the anxiety hormones cortisol and adrenaline.

Walnuts
They've been shown to help lower blood pressure, which is critical for those whose hearts are already working overtime thanks to high adrenaline levels. In fact, research so strongly backs their health benefits that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration goes so far as to recommend 1 1/2 oz per day.

Sunflower Seeds
A good source of folate, which helps your body produce a pleasure-inducing brain chemical called dopamine.

Spinach
Studies show that magnesium, which you'll find in leafy greens like spinach, improves your body's response to stress.

Blueberries
Their antioxidants counteract the effects of stress hormones like cortisol on your body.

Chino Trinidad said Tuesday that he’s confident his successor can inject new ideas to the Philippine Basktball League (PBL) after formally announcing his retirement as commissioner of the country's premier amateur cage league.

"Naniniwala ako na may maraming mas mahuhusay sa akin na makakapag-handle ng PBL," Trinidad said during the PSA Forum held at Shakey's UN Avenue.

The 42-year-old Trinidad earlier announced his retirement in a Facebook message that caught PBL members by surprise.

During Trinidad’s term, many players rose to become stars in the PBA such as Purefoods’ James Yap and Don Allado, Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood, Ty Tang and Sol Mercado, Sta. Lucia’s Kelly Williams, Talk ‘N Text’s Jason Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo, Ginebra’s Yancy de Ocampo and Air21’s Renren Ritualo.

When asked about the legacy he left in the league, Trinidad said: "Mahirap magsabi ng legacy, siguro yung history na lang mag-judge sa akin kung paano ang paghandle ko sa PBL.”

"Ang masasabi ko lang for the last 10 years, the league has been a survivor and the league gave me the platform to discover the skills that I thought na wala ako when they appointed me in 2000."

Trinidad, whose resignation was accepted by league chairman Ding Camua and owner Jappy Pascual of Pascual Laboratories, said Executive Director Butch Maniego will take the rein until such time that the board can find his replacement.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) â€" The Golden State Warriors are for sale and Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison  has already made it well known he wants to buy the team.

The Warriors said Monday they have hired Galatioto Sports Partners, or GSP, to handle current owner Chris Cohan's sale of the franchise and that the company would serve as the Warriors' exclusive financial adviser throughout the process.

For the basketball-crazy East Bay, this news couldn't have come soon enough. Fans know what the atmosphere can be for this franchise: electric, just like it was for the team's rare playoff run in 2007.

Supporters still turn out by the thousands for Golden State's games even if the performances have often been rather depressing.

Coach Don Nelson said Monday he doesn't expect to be around long under new ownership.

"I'm 70 years old. I have one more year now and then I'm going to retire," he said before Golden State's home game against Phoenix. "I have a year left on my contract. I'm going to fulfill my contract. What happens, happens."

Nelson said before this season began he would donate a year of service to the franchise free of charge as a way to repay Cohan â€" but that has changed.

While Cohan hadn't given any indication he planned to put the franchise up for sale right away, there had been thinking that he would certainly listen if an incredible offer was made.

Ellison told financial analysts in late January he was trying to buy the team but said, "unfortunately you can't have a hostile takeover of a basketball team."

Also earlier in January, Ellison sat courtside to watch the Warriors play LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the building boasting his company's name â€" Oracle Arena.

Ellison already owns BMW Oracle Racing, the American sailing syndicate that won the America's Cup off Valencia, Spain, last month.

At the Cavs-Warriors game, one fan in the upper area of the lower level held a sign reading, "Dear Larry Ellison, please buy this team. Thanks, the Warriors fans."

The Warriors said they wouldn't comment further until an agreement or transaction with a buyer is reached.

Cohan clearly decided the timing was finally right to part ways with the Warriors, who were second-to-last in the powerful Western Conference at 19-50 and had lost eight of 10 games heading into the game with the Suns.

Cohan has had financial problems, too. Earlier this month, the Warriors announced across-the-board discounts for season ticket holders for next season.

In 2007, the Internal Revenue Service said Cohan owed more than $160 million in back income taxes and penalties from the 1998 sale of a cable television company.

There are many who believe Golden State has been mismanaged for years and that new leadership is long overdue for a club that has reached the playoffs only once since 1994.

Last fall, disgruntled swingman Stephen Jackson made it publicly known he wanted out and eventually got his wish in a November trade to Charlotte.

Jackson was a key figure in the Warriors ending their 12-year playoff drought in 2007, just a few months after he arrived in the Bay Area in a trade with the Pacers.

"As you know," Jackson said, "this organization's unpredictable. Very unpredictable."

There was also the strangely timed departure of Chris Mullin last spring. Mullin, the beloved former player turned top executive, apparently had lost his authority months before the team parted ways with him in May.

The constant drama surrounding this organization apparently caused other players to question whether they wanted to play for owner Cohan, including star player Monta Ellis.

Some Warriors players say they're just going to see what happens.

"There's going to be a lot of speculation, a lot of talk, but for the most part, until a decision is made we're just going to go about our business," rookie guard Stephen Curry said. "I don't know what to be worried about yet. ... We're going to pay attention in the summer because it might affect us down the road."

The Warriors have shown positive signs in recent years but this season has been rough all around â€" from injuries to long losing streaks. The 2008 squad barely missed the postseason despite winning 48 games, most by a non-playoff NBA team in a quarter-century.

Team president Robert Rowell said he's committed to fielding a competitive team. Nelson and general manager Larry Riley have hinted their young players will be all the better with a year's more experience.

Early in his tenure as controlling owner, Cohan sued Nelson when he accepted a job with the New York Knicks after leaving Golden State in February 1995.

"It was never bitter," Nelson said after he was hired back in August 2006. "I had some of Chris' money, and he wanted it. (The dispute) ended with that, and it's been a great relationship ever since."

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PNA) â€" Military authorities in Bohol are describing the province as “generally peaceful” despite sightings of armed men and intensely growing verbal tussle amongst political rivals here.

Major Orlando Sampayan of the Military Intelligence Group, reported during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, Provincial Development Council and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan earlier this month that the Group is monitoring the movements of “mysterious personalities” believed to be hired goons from Masbate, Bukidnon and Ozamis City in Bohol’s second and third districts.

In his report, Sampayan added that information on his assessment on the present situation showing “political schemes and maneuvers observed in the province such as exchanging allegations of anomalies, black propaganda, and character assassination.”

He underlined in his report that“the presence of unknown personalities allegedly coming from Masbate, Bukidnon, and Osamis is an indication that politics in Bohol is said to be volatile and explosive.”

Regarding that particular matter, the military in the province notes that “it is most likely that politicians may also be favored on the reported arrival or sightings of armed groups due to the incoming national and local elections.”

The armed groups “continue to evade government troops because they don’t want to be compromised,” said the authorities.

Col. Allan Luga, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 802nd Brigade, reported that in the recent joint conference of the Commission on Elections, the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines at the Police Regional Office in Cebu, it was learned that Bohol has one Category 1 area which is Tagbilaran City.

Luga explained that Category 1 areas are those where there are high possibility of occurrence of politically motivated violent incidents on the basis of election-related violent incidents (ERVI) happening in such areas in the past two elections, with no participation of domestic terror groups.

The area classification is based on the February 13, 2004 ambush of Governor Erico Aumentado and the anticipation of intense political rivalry in Tagbilaran City, particularly where it involves the candidacy of Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso for mayor against incumbent Mayor Dan Lim.

The military is also aware of the fact that Vice Mayor Veloso is the brother-in-law of 1st District Rep. Edgar Chatto, whose publicists have been airing criticisms against the administration of Mayor Lim.

Other factors are the existence of intense partisan political rivalry with no participation of domestic terror groups, possible employment of partisan armed groups by candidates in the area, and occurrence of politically-motivated ERVI in the current election period with no participation of domestic terror groups.

Classifed as Category 2 are areas where there are serious armed threats posed by the LCM, SPSGs and the like, based on available intelligence reports that suggest possible or actual occurrence of election-related violent incidents or the existence of intense partisan political climate caused by either the local Communist movement (LCM) or Southern Philippines secessionist groups (SPSG).

An area or province will also be classified as Category 2 if it is under the area of operations of very active guerilla fronts of the LCM or the guerilla base commands/units of the SPSGs, and if at least half of total existing barangays in the area are affected by communist terrorists.

On the poverty situation, Sampayan reported that based on the actual survey by different non-governmental organizations, the “poverty situation in Bohol has been reduced gradually.”

Concern by authorities is on a report that most of the cooperatives awarded with financial assistance in the province “have not been operating properly, with most of them now bankrupt.”

These cooperatives organized to address poverty incidence and eventually solve insurgency have been considered to be instrumental in sustaining the faith of former rebels in the government.

The names of rich and influential individuals placed under lifestyle investigation by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on suspicions of not paying correct taxes will be known before the end of June.

"We have the capability to uncover the untaxed wealth of these tax cheats," BIR Commissioner Joel L. Tan-Torres said.

He said special teams have already started gathering evidence and matching them with records furnished by the taxpayers themselves to the BIR.

The BIR chief said the audit procedure consisted mainly of matching tax payments vis-a-vis expenses for travel abroad, new vehicles and real estate properties and other acquisitions.

He said all government agencies like the Land Transportation Office, the Bureau of Immigration and the register of deeds have signified their intention to support the BIR "shotgun" investigation.

He allayed fears expressed by some sectors that the deployment of agents from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police in the lifestyle probe might results in harassments. (Jun Ramirez)

Farmers woes to poll body
Members of the Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines (AGAP) ate “tuyo” (dried sardines) and cold rice in front of the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Manila Tuesday to dramatize the poverty stricken plight of the country’s farmers.

The simple lunch, AGAP partylist Rep. Nicanor Briones said, only showed that the reforms by the government for the farming groups remains unheeded.

“On the contrary, the standards of living of our farmers have considerably gone down, with most of them unable to feed their families nothing but tuyo,” he said.

They also demanded livelihood assistance from the government for the benefit of farmers badly affected by the El Nino phenomenon or else their families will suffer starvation.

Before lunch, Briones and other AGAP members filed their certification of nomination before the poll body which explicitly states that he, along with Rico Geron and Albert Lim, are those nominated by the party-list as their official representatives.

The Philippine party-list system aims to increase the representation, particularly of “marginalized and underrepresented” sectors and enhance transparency and accountability, leading to more efficient government. (Raymund F. Antonio)

Teachers hit Comelec
Teachers criticized Tuesday the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for allegedly ignoring what they describe as most urgent matter for public school teachers as far as the May elections are concerned â€" right to vote.

The Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC) national chairperson Benjo Basas said that the Comelec, after several formal inquiries and dialogues, has consistently been ignoring the teachers’ appeal to resolve the cases of deactivation that would result to the disenfranchisement for about 80 percent of all teachers.

“We welcome the 10-minute extension for Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) members to vote, however the question is, are we allowed to sit in BEIs and to vote?” he argued.

Basas added that in a new resolution promulgated last March 16, the Comelec amended the rules for BEIs to give teachers time to participate in the first automated elections as voters.

“However, the 10-minute extension to facilitate our voting would be useless if in the first place, teachers could not be allowed to participate as BEIs or even as voters,” said Basas, also Caloocan City teacher.

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PNA) â€" The province is in dire need of P7.1 million to retrain some 8,000 teachers in elementary and secondary schools whose students barely passed regional and national tests.

The teachers will have to undergo a re-training program if they are to improve their performance in the classroom and catch up with schoolteachers in other provinces.

Based on an initial assessment and analysis of the academic standing of public schools in Bohol, Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lorna Rances found out that poor classroom performance was particularly notable in the province’s second and third districts.

“The low test results indicated a need to upgrade and enhance the teaching competencies of our teachers by refocusing on the basic principles of learning, introducing research-based teaching strategies and building the school, that is, the teachers, school heads and staff, as an effective working team,” she said.

As a response, the Provincial School Board (PSB), through its Chair, Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado, has negotiated with municipal school boards, through the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Bohol chapter president, Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas, for a 70 percent-30 percent sharing scheme in the expenses.

Provincial Treasurer Eustaquio Socorin assured that the provincial government has savings amounting to P5.63 million in excess of last year’s collection, surplus, interest earned from bank  deposits bank and unappropriated balance.

Aumentado requested Socorin to make his Provincial Development Initiative fund available in case some municipalities are delayed in producing counterpart funds.

Rances reported to the Governor that the two-day teacher re-training program costs P900 per participant, including registration, or a total of P7.28 million for all the 8,089 participants comprising 5,535 elementary school teachers, 2,065 high school teachers, 361 elementary school principals, 80 high school principals and 48 district supervisors.

The training will focus on critical subjects such as Science, Mathematics and English, she added.
Rances finds the training “very relevant and appropriate to respond to the needs of our teachers.”
Since most of the low-performing schools are in the second district, teachers assigned there will be the first to undergo the training starting April 5.

They will be divided into groups of about 150 so that there will be 19 batches to be trained in April from among the 2,894 teachers of the second district.

The 3,011 teachers in Bohol’s third district will follow on March 3 to June 5 where there will be 20 batches while the 2,061 teachers in the first district, divided into 13 groups, will have their turn from June 14 to July 1.

Consulting firm, Quantum Education and Management Consulting calls the training, “Building Learning Teams for Successful Schools” (BLESS), which is a team-based approach for improving school performance.

The political situations in the neighboring provinces of Bohol and Leyte bear watching. Their developments might spell which directions those aspiring for national leadership might be headed.

Let us take the case of Bohol on the basis of just two sources. These are news stories filtering from that island that find spaces in our local dailies and unguarded statements of some Boholano bigwigs. If they were to be believed, the wrangling there seems to suggest that not all is well in the Lakas-Kampi-CMD camp. It looks like the once formidable provincial political organization wholly supportive of the administration of Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been besieged by internal squabbles that, if they remain unattended to, can assume the irreparable kind.

Only about two months ago, or shortly after aspirants filed their certificates of candidacies, the administration party in Bohol appeared invincible. They had candidates in all levels. Most of them are seeking re-election or swinging their swivels to other positions because their terms are about to expire on them. Because of their positions, they have been able to bask in the glory of having allocated funds for this and that project. Many of them of course, do not take the effort of explaining to their constituents that the projects are funded by people's money.

There are also national government projects poured by the administration of Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The road network around the island is enviable. It has made traveling around the island a pleasure. And the dam that services some major agricultural fields there is able to prove its worth this El Niño. These projects might have be introduced far and between each other and the badges of corruption might dwell in the minds of the people, but a grateful citizenry is prepared to overlook the paucity of the projects and the perceived graft that rides with them. That should explain why the administration party was hitting high marks in poll surveys then.

However, as we are a little more than a week before the start of the campaign period for local officials, the cracks of the administration party get visible. Formidable names start to question the wisdom of party hierarchy. Worse, some of them have announced their secession, (is there such a term in politics?) from Lakas. These are personalities who command huge chunks of votes. Their defection stands to affect the projections of candidate Teodoro.

Conversely, the situation is bound to improve the capability of the standard bearer of the Nacionalista Party to amass support. By some indications, those leaving the administration group are heading the way of Villar. For example, a candidate for a local office there running under the canopy of Malacañang and with whom I had the chance to exchange views, swore to high heavens that a number of his political friends from other towns would tell you they belonged to the Lakas-NP. He hastened to add that the surname NP to the name Lakas was in preparation for the eventual announcement of their change of political coats.

In Southern Leyte, the control of the Mercado brothers (one a congressman and the other, the governor) is not as rocky as that of Bohol. They are organized in practically all towns. In some municipalities, their candidates seeking re-election do not appear to be seriously contested. The mayors belonging to the other camp, (and they are allied with the LP) are few.

Their combined votes, in the context of the province, may even be smaller that what the NP may gather because this latter party has active supporters in many parts of the province. Considering that the Mercados are not known to be stingy and politics in that province lean on the vastness of logistics, the Mercados may well bring victory to the administration. By the same financial yardstick may Villar romp off a close second placer among Southern Leytenos.

As we enter the local campaign period, the developments in these provinces will be quick and sharp. Which party understands the situation very well and acts appropriately may savor the taste of political victory.

it can really tarnish the name of bohol. what's sickening is that the suspect is not even from bohol but from laguna. what's not clear is that the article failed to mention what was the name of the tour agency does the suspect represented. at least the public know on whom they are going to check when it comes to having tours within the province. this is incident is embarassing to think that the victims were from PWU, one of the known university here in our country.
#2074
i thought PASG is already disbanded based on court order who deemed found the agency illegal and unconstitutional due to redundancy of functions. but it's a good thing they still act on this illegal trade.

MANILA, Philippines - The ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD is mulling the expulsion of Bukidnon Gov. Jose Zubiri for endorsing Sen. Manny Villar instead of backing the party's official candidate for the presidency, Gilbert Teodoro.

Teodoro, who is lagging behind Villar, Sen. Benigno Aquino III, and former Joseph Estrada in the presidential surveys, said Gov. Zubiri cannot stay on as member of the administration party after endorsing the Nacionalista Party standard-bearer.

"The party will take the appropriate measures...I believe there are calls for that (expulsion)," he said.

Teodoro said Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, the son of the Bukidnon governor, as well as the governor's two other children holding local posts, will stay with Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

Only Gov. Zubiri may be removed from the ruling party, he added.

Teodoro could not hide his disappointment over the elder Zubiri's withdrawal of support, especially since the Bukidnon governor is the provincial chairman of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

"Noong una pa, nag-wawaver naman ang support ni Gov. Zubiri. Blowing hot and cold eh," he said.

On Tuesday, Teodoro campaigned in Marikina City, the bailiwick of former Lakas-Kampi-CMD official, Bayani Fernando, who is now the running mate of Bagumbayan-Volunteers for a New Philippines Sen. Richard Gordon.

Sen. Zubiri distanced himself from his father's move to jump ship and join Villar's NP.

In a press statement, Sen. Zubiri apologized for what his father has done. He assured that he, as well as Bukidnon 3rd district Rep. Jose Ma. Zubiri III, would continue to support Teodoro and his running mate, Edu Manzano.

Political observers are not surprised by the move taken by the Zubiri family to support two candidates.

They said many political families have been doing this to ensure that whoever wins in the presidential race, they will still have ties to Malacañang.

Bayan urges Comelec to disqualify Arroyo
MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - It's official. Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Juan Miguel 'Mikey' Arroyo is a nominee of Ang Galing Pinoy for the party-list race.

Ang Galing Pinoy is a party that seeks to represent security guards in the House of Representatives.

The official nomination of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's eldest son for Ang Galing Pinoy was submitted before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) law department on Tuesday.

Although he can seek a third and last term as representative of the 2nd district of Pampanga, Rep. Arroyo has given way to his mother, who has chosen to run for Congress even after serving as president for more than 9 years.

Rep. Arroyo did not personally go to the Comelec to submit the nomination. Only a duly-authorized representative submitted the document.

Aside from Rep. Arroyo, the other nominees of Ang Galing Pinoy are: Dennis Pineda, Romeo Dungca Jr., Jerold Dominic David, and Ryan Caladiao.

Nothing wrong, says Mikey
In a statement, Rep. Arroyo said he sees nothing wrong in possibly representing Ang Galing Pinoy.

"I believe the party-list welcomes the investigation to clear the air in this issue. Furtheremore, I also believe no party-list must be duly disadvantaged on the basis of their nomination, which is internal to them in the first place. I am sure the Ang Galing Pinoy party-list has passed the strict accreditation process of the Comelec. The choice of nominee is the sole prerogative of any party list," Rep. Arroyo said.

The Comelec is currently formulating rules that would strictly screen party-list nominees. The rules will be issued through an en banc resolution.

Nominations for party-list elections may be questioned through a verified petition.

'A new low for party-list system'
Meanwhile, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) assailed the inclusion of Rep. Arroyo in the list of nominees formally submitted to the Comelec.

“The inclusion of Mikey Arroyo as the first nominee of party-list group Ang Galing Pinoy marks a new low for the party-list system. We maintain that Mikey Arroyo is not eligible to become a party-list nominee. He does not come from the ranks of the marginalized. He is the incumbent congressman of his district, a member of the dominant political party Lakas-Kampi, and the son of the incumbent president. By no stretch of the imagination can he be considered marginalized or fit to represent the marginalized for which the party-list system was meant to serve,” said Bayan secretary-general Renato M. Reyes, Jr.

“It appears Mikey has stripped himself of any delicadeza and has gone full steam ahead with his plans of taking advantage of the party-list system to entrench himself in power along with other Arroyo loyalists,” Reyes added.

He called on the Comelec to “do the right thing and disqualify Mikey Arroyo.”

“The Comelec cannot plead ignorance when it comes to Mikey. They know very well who he is. They have no other legal and logical recourse but to motu propio disqualify Mikey,” Reyes added.

Ang Galing Pinoy’s second nominee is Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda, also a known Arroyo ally.

5 Arroyos in Congress?
The 1987 Constitution opened the House of Representatives to marginalized and under-represented sectors through the party-list system.

However, activists and other critics say rich and powerful individuals are abusing the party-list system so that they can remain in public office and enjoy its perks.

If Galing Pinoy wins and Rep. Arroyo becomes its representative in the House, he will join his mother who, in all likelihood, will become the new 2nd district congresswoman of Pampanga.

Other Arroyos currently holding seats in Congress include President Arroyo's son, Rep. Diosdado Macapagal Arroyo representing Camarines Sur, her brother-in-law Iggy Arroyo representing Negros Occidental, and sister-in-law Ma. Lourdes Arroyo of Ang Kasangga party.

@Bol-anon nga cebuano: while I respect your right of choice for a candidate, it makes me think why you'd stick to this particular choice. After stating what his done (or not done) for Balilihan all this time he's been in place, you still feel that you should vote for him? You're quite right about the microcosm reflecting the habitat. Which is one reason I'm wary of voting for politicians such as him. Just my piece of thought :)
i stand with my choice for eddie whether he'd done much or he's doing to nothing at all. i know i can choose someone other than him but all the opposition he faced so far is truly way below his capability but if eddie will run for mayor in balilihan and someone is brave enough to oppose him, I would be rooting for the underdog. this is something that we need to think about that if he's going to slide down back the mayoral position that's a shameful act because that will clearly show how power hungry he is.
i can assure you that i will not vote his brother efren in the vice-mayoralty position because if he wins that will add more chatto in the municipal hall and the more they can cover up all the things they did in the past. i think it's time someone brave enough to be there to uncover the truth.

i had that same incident last christmas when we visited my in-laws. i bought a pair of sandugo beach sandals worth 650 since i wasn't able to bring one. when we got home i left it in the doorway since it's speckled with sands and i don't want to scatter them inside the house. i just left it for only a couple of minutes but when i went out to get the slippers so that i can clean it, its already gone and was replaced with a very worn out pair. it seems that one of the carollers took it with them. pretty bad experience but nevertheless i made someone happy with the new pair of slippers although it was forcibly taken from me.

RP booters third in Street Child World Cup

The Philippines landed at third place in the Deloitte Street Child World Cup, beating home team South Africa, 2-1, yesterday in Durban.

According to the tournament's official website, South Africa scored the opening goal but the Philippines managed to tie the score at 1-1 in regulation. The Filipino street kids then clinched the winning goal in the fifth minute of the extra period.

In the finals, India were crowned as the first Street Child World Champions, beating Tanzania via a penalty kick, 1-0.

The Philippines earlier lost against the United Kingdom, 2-4, and Tanzania, 0-2, to forfeit its chances of reaching the finals. They bounced back though with big wins against Brazil, 6-2, and Ukraine, 3-0, before facing South Africa.

Managed by the Henry V. Moran Foundation with Filipino rock icon Ed Formoso as its team manager, the Filipino booters came from football teams from the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Street Childrens Village, Nayon ng Kabataan of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Manila Boys Town Complex, Philippine Christian Foundation, the Gawad Kalinga Foundation, among others.

“I've experienced hardcore street life in my youth. I know what it’s like. I congratulate the Deloitte Street Child World Cup project in its commitment to bring attention to the plight of street children through the power of football,” seven-time boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao commented on the tournament.

The Street Child World Cup, a project by the Deloitte foundation, aims to “strengthen, equip and enable a global network of partners to work towards a world where the rights of all children to a full, healthy and dignified life.”

“I’ve played football as a teenager with the world watching me. The Street Child World Cup is a brilliant project which will help hundreds of thousands of teenagers who live on the streets by getting the world to listen to them and give them a fair chance,” Theo Walcott, a popular striker for Arsenal said.

According to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a South African human rights icon, the Street Child World Cup “demonstrates the tremendous potential of... street children, who are so often treated as less than human.”

It will be happening from March 15-23 this year.
