I don't think there's much to fear about a Chinese military assault or invasion either.  Through the 4,300-odd years that China has been in existence it had never been aggressively invasive of other countries (except maybe for Tibet) and has mostly kept to foreign economic trade and relations.  However, I am also wary of how these arrangements may actually develop with regards to resource extractive industries and programs.

Sir, the last things you mentioned are very good suggestions.  I hope someone does pick up on them.  It would really encourage our agricultural industry.  In relation to that, the long-standing DOST scholarship program of the government was a step towards such a direction; although there are many instances that it is abused and manipulated, the ideal behind it is still that of harnessing the next generation of the country's best minds to develop its science and technology.  Sadly, there hasn't been much advances as would be hoped, especially in the field of agriculture, and this is partly because of the reasons you cite in your first two sentences. 

It will take a great deal of effort to shift paradigms, especially from one of indolence to one of industry, pero pwede man siguro hinay-hinayan.  Building a nation is not accomplished in one day.
