General Topic / Re: PINTADOS
June 04, 2009, 08:58:22 PM
this is an interesting thread... i have been looking for information with regards to the appearance of pre-hispanic filipinos and what body adornments they used including the use of tattoos among men and women. according to information i found in the net, early filipino men in the visayas (it did not mention which part, which province in particular) wore their hair long and was tied in a bun. they wore either sleeveless or short sleeved jacket which was open in the front, and wore a g-string. they wore a headress of different colors which indicated their status in the community. as jewelry, men wore earrings, necklace, rings, armlets and anklets. women had long hair which was left flowing naturally behind their back, and wore sleeved jackets and skirts. for ornaments, they wore earrings, necklace rings and bracelets. both men and women, however, were heavily tattooed although men had more of their bodies covered with ink compared to women. men were practically covered with designs including the face, body and extremities while women had tattooes only on the extremities; none on the face and body.

you guys, choi and koddi are lucky to have seen pictures of how these tattoos look like; i have not. can any of you please post a pic of these supposedly pre-spanish filipino tattoo design in this thread? hopefully someone will be able to tell us what these images or designs mean.

interestingly, in comparison to the description of early visayans, the same information source describes the tagalogs as different in his appearance. tagalog men reportedly wore their hair short and their bodies were rid of any tattoos.

"naa ba sad nagpuyo diining islaha?"

i have been to parts of these said islands a few years back. both are populated by fishermen families and they will surely go under with the island if they don't leave in due time. global warming is real and scientists have confirmed the rising of sea levels, although they are not of the same opinion as to the rate of increase. nevertheless, sea level will continue to rise in the coming years. let us build more coal fired power plants to generate electricity for our appliances and airconditioning at home, and burn more gasoline and diesel for our cars and ensure that this scenario becomes reality even sooner than anticipated.

to make any reforestation initiative meaningful and effective, planting of trees should ideally be made in watershed areas. if and when this is done, the improved forest cover will help: (1) improve the quality and quantity of water, (2) mitigate floods and mudslides, (3) sequester tons upon tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is responsible for global warming.
#206
watersheds simply mean agianan sa tubig uwan from the mountains down to the sea. in other words, a watershed system always involve bodies of water like brooks, streams, and finally rivers that empty out to sea. siguro naa na moy idea karon kung asa dapit ang mga dagkong watersheds sa bohol.

electric vehicles are only environment-friendly if its batteries are charged from a slar source. however, if its batteries are charged through the socket on the wall which provides electricity that is generated mostly from fossil fuels, then these electric vehicles are not really environment-friendly.

"tinuod ba jud nang sige putol ug kahoy sa bohol? sa akong tan-aw pwerte pa man bagaa sa kalasangan diha."

i'm not really sure about the real status of the forest cover in bohol. i'm just saying that IF people continue to cut down trees (which is happening not only in many parts of the philippines but in many parts of the world as well), water supply will be greatly affected in the long term. i'm just assuming that bohol is one of these places where forest cover is poor. in fact, there's a plan by the povincial government and ABS-CBN foundation to collaborate in a reforestation project in 3 of bohol's 6 or seven major watersheds. last time i heard, an aerial survery was conducted. ambot lang kun naunsa na karon.
#209
if bohol will continue to cut its trees and do not engage in a serious and meaningful reforestation program, people can rest assured that in a few years, all bohol towns will achieve 00% potable water supply.

according to a filipino nutrition book that i read recently, saluyot is rank among the top healthy leafy veggies around. they are shown in their order of importance:

1. malunggay
2. saluyot
3. ampalaya leaves
4. sili leaves
5. kangkong,alugbati, camote tops

interestingly, saluyot is the plant which is the source of a fiber called jute that is made into cord which is sometimes woven into sack material; kadtong karaan nga sako sa humay ug copras.

quote from fdaray: "Why we have corruption? Its because Filipinos are dishonest. SEcondly, we have much money to corrupt."

i was watching the news last night, may 27, 2009, and there was this item about the study-now-pay-later program of the deped. it was reported that so far there has been some 70,000 college students who have availed of this program and the repayment rate has been very disappointing. do you know how many percent of the total number of program recipients actually paid their dues? only one (1) percent! grabe noh? deped officials expressed dismay over the fact that even with the 2-year grace period given to students after graduation to settle their bills, a lot of them refused to pay. a good number of graduates could not even be contacted and many turned out to have provided fictitious addresses in their applications when they signed up for this program. clearly, there was premeditation to cheat on the part of these students who provided fictitious information, and the deped was also very lax in not conducting background check prior to release of money... it reminds me of an american friend who, after living in the philippines for more than 20 years, commented that filipinos -- if given a chance -- is likely to cheat. sad, but true.

improving forest cover for the purpose of ecotourism is fine especially if the technology used is inexpensive such as ANR in that it does not require procurement of new stocks or varieties as proponents claim. but without planting trees for the purpose of meeting man's continuing need for lumber and firewood, i'll bet that trees in forest areas -- ANR pilot areas included -- will continue to be cut when no one is looking. this has been happened before, it is happening now, and it will continue to happen in the future. the global trend of forest destruction in thousands of hectares per day is a clear manifestation of this fact.
#215
ANR was one of the technologies promoted by a World Bank-funded project back in the late 80s and early 90s called Central Visayas Regional Projects (CVRP). the pilot area was located in a forested area in the upland barangay of Ayungon, Negros Oriental. since then, there had been a lot of initiatives to improve forest cover through either ANR or conventional means but practically all reforestation projects have been dismal failures. this is because people behind these initiatives lack the understanding of the basic issues behind forest degradation. sad to say, these people including those in the DENR continue to face the same issues using the same strategy. as if the have not really learned anything from past failures.

the truth of the matter is that people need trees for: (1) construction materials with which to build houses; (2) firewood; (3) furnitures. these are the main reasons why people cut down trees. however, it became a problem when prople cut trees much faster than trees are able to regenerate by itself. as a result, denudation of vegetation brings about man-made environmental disasters such as mudslides, flashfloods, etc.

to address the above concerns, reforestation efforts should be focused to address the factors that cause people to cut down trees. this will mean that doing the following:

(1) reforestation will have to be made in watersheds to avoid environmenta disasters such as flashfloods and mudslides, and at the same time water is given the chance to seep into the ground to improve supply of ground water. trees to be planted in the watersheds should be those that are in the endangered species list whose cutting is prohibited and carries a heavy penalty for violation. this is to ensure people are discouraged to cut trees in watershed areas;

(2) commercial tree plantations must be established so that demand for construction materials and fuel wood can be met using timber sustainably harvested from these areas. these plantations should be set up in public land that are not part of a watershed system so that harvesting does not affect the flow of water from the upland areas.

(3) agroforestation should be encouraged among upland farmers to expand forest cover even in agricultural areas and at the same time provide fuel wood and fruits from trees that bring in additional cash for farmers

(4) river systems whose banks have been eroded should be rehabilitated by planting trees that have a deep-penetrating root system to hold the soil. a good example is bamboo. it hold the soil thereby preventing erosion and at the same time, bamboo provides additional source of construction and furniture materials.

the main point here is that reforestation efforts should be anchored on the reality that people need trees for construction materials, fuel and furnitures, and that these needs will have to be addressed as well to achieve a certain level of success.

this is not to say that ANR is useless as a technology. it's just that it does not directly and effectively address the real issues surrounding forest denudation.

manay tess, if you travel by road from davao city to butuan, you will see these contraptions called skylab along the highway in the davao norte-comval-agusan sur areas. i used to traveled this stretch of highway every week for almost one year in 2005 and i always encountered this very dangerous mode of transportation in said areas.

this issue has been around for quite some time. it is good to hear that someone seems serious in implementing what the law provides, and we certainly need officials who have political will to do what is right and lawful and legal. but actually doing it is quite another matter. we shall see in the next couple weeks if our local officials can really do what they intend to do, and prove to their constituents that they are worthy to be called leaders.

"Hey bolingitboy,

Yes I agree, perchance have you ever tasted turkey? Turkey is actually one of the healthier avian species to eat. Very low in fat, and their intake of wild berries, flowers and free ranged hemlinths add to its taste"

lorenzo, i'll keep this info in mind per chance i'll get my hands - or should i say my mouth rather - on some turkey. unfortunately, you can't turkeys in groceries, public markets or even specialty restos in this country except for turkeys as in jerks :-). but kidding aside, most of the turkeys you find here are raised mostly for personal consumption and it's easier to find ostrich meat than turkey in traditional food outlets like markets or restos.

"Chicken, in actuality, is the healthier type of meat anyone could eat. By far, biochemically and nutritionally speaking, less fat than say beef, pork. It is recommended by nutritionist that chicken or fish be frequented rather than the former beef or pork."

i agree with this piece of information 100%. chicken and fish are much healthier than red meat like beef and pork. but as to the question of the best type of chicken to eat, i still maintain that free-range chicken is safest, and probably the tastiest.

i was browsing through a nutrition written by a filipino scientist not too long ago and i remember her findings about chicken that fat content is not evenly distributed in its body. according to this lady nutritionist, the chicken part that has the most fat content are the wings and the neck. the part that has the least fat is the pecho or breast.

as for chicken consumption, it is really unhealthy to eat any part of a chicken that is raised commercially. this is because of its consumption of commercial feeds that are mixed with growth boosters that more often than not contain harmful synthetic drugs. the safest and most healthy chicken to eat is free range chicken or mano bisaya nga binuhian. medyo dugay lang lutoon pero relatively safe to eat.

"How could NHI Chairperson Ambeth Ocampo expressed her dissatisfaction of Martin's rendition if she confessed she didn't even see it.  Well, it wasn't really the traditional rendition as most renditions are in games like that but if the NHI are serious in enforcing the Section 37 of the Republic Act No. 8491, they should prosecute these artists and or organizers who are not following the law.

Having said that, I like Martin Nievera's rendition.  Feel na feel.  He sang very well - in my humble opinion, even better than Sir Tom Jones (one of my Dad's favorite singers)."

grazie, laki na si ambeth ocampo... actually martin nievera's version of the lupang hinirang which was sung during the opening of the pacquio-hatton fight was much closer to julian felipe's arrangement compared with previous boxing match openings performed mostly by female singers the last one being karylle. for one thing, none of the ladies ever sang the national anthem with a martial tone. martin nievera-who happens to be one of my pet peeves-at least rendered his version with a martial tone around the middle of the song and as such, mas doul pas tinuod... it is kinda surprising why ambeth ocampo, in his capacity as NHI chair, made a statement about the way the national anthem was sung only now. could it be that martin nievera is also one of his pet peeves? :-)

Thanks, bolingitboy!  Syalan, kaingon nko baji ni si Ambeth.  My bad kay wa ko kaila sa NHI chair! Shame on me! heheh

Is this the first time that NHI investigated a performer of our National Anthem?  Kay ga tan-aw ko sa mga previous performers during boxing matches ni Pacquiao, ang uban lain pagka perform. "

grazie, ambeth ocampo actually has a feminine face especially in pictures that show only the face. sayon ra kaayo maaan nga babae.

actually this is the first time that the NHI said something about how the national anthem was rendered in the opening part of a boxing match, after past performances by various singers since pacquiao started figuring in major boxing matches in las vegas. mas grabe ang version sa uban kay the tempo morag dirge (funeral march) not a military march as it should be. nasuya lang gyud siguro si bai ambeth ni martin maong iyang gi initan :-)

"Some Americans used to argue that it was impossible to rape an unwilling woman. Few people say that today, or say publicly that a woman “asked for it” if she wore a short skirt."

this statement that it is impossible to rape an unwilling woman is in effect converying the idea that rape can only be commited with a willing woman. so being a willing participant, the woman can't claim she was raped. what a stupid argument.

i guess their conservatism is one of their company traits that have brought them this far since the bank was established more than a hundred years ago. it may not be the biggest bank but to me, it is the most matatag. i would not be surprised if those banks that did a meteoric rise will also take a fall in the same manner.

What aid? Anything that comes from the World Bank will have to be paid back - with interest. they're basically a bank like any other bank in that that is the way they make a buck. the only difference the World Bank has with other banks is that it's clientele are governments, not individuals or business groups... News writers should be clear about what they report and should learn to call a loan a loan, not a euphemistic term such as aid or financial assistance. Makes me think that Ms. Go might be on the take from the World Bank as some unofficial PR person.

quote from corrosion_block: "Ako mismo want to buy a unit and hoping to drop by their shop when I'm back sa 'pinas, but I'm still hoping na dunay restoration shop locally sa Bohol para di' nata moadto'g layo."

i don't think there are any restoration shops in bohol, although i'm sure that local body building shops that do fabrication would be able to make even major repairs in their original appearance. but this is only true with existing run-down units that need a facelift, not fabricate a replica from scratch.

mdb: the jeep in the photos are american jeeps (government issue) that they used during WWII. that would mean that they made it, although filipinos are very good at fabricating stuff even in their original measurements if provided with details. i think that the QC restoration shop that built these replicas with the thought of the business that they can make with collectors and jeep enthusiasts in mind.

somebody should write a book about the life and times of francisco dagohoy that shows the actual independence the boholanos enjoyed during the reign of dagohoy's revolution. it was probably the only instance wherein a group of people enjoyed non-interference from spanish authorities in the conduct of their lives, and we as boholanos ought to be proud of this fact. unlike emilio aguinaldo who proclaimed himself president but never sat in his throne as such because he was always on his feet running away from the americans until his arrest in the remote pacific town of palanan, isabela. after that he was incarcerated for a very long time. aguinaldo was only a president in name, never in deed. on the other hand, dagohoy never proclaimed himself president but reigned as one. mabuhay si dagohoy. mabuhay ang bol-anon. kung akoy si cesar montano, i would do a movie on dagohoy. dugay ra.

"I noticed something on the new seven wonders of the world. ALL ARE MAN-MADE, NOT NATURAL NATURES CREATION. They better rename it Seven Man-made wonders of the world."

to begin with, all those structures identified as the (original) "seven wonders of the world" were all man-made. however, they are all non-existent now, all destroyed by the passage of time except for one which is the pyramids at gizeh in cairo, egypt. it is for the reason that only one among the seven wonders remain that people decided to identify a new set of seven wonders, all man-made as well. hence, the "new seven wonders of the world" that are shown in this thread which are all man-made.

it is for this reason also that the ongoing seven wonders initiative is distinctly called the "seven wonders of nature" to indicate that these wonders are natural geographic formations, not man-made structures.

from all appearances based on the testimony of the victim's relatives and friends, it seems the problem stems from misuse of family funds by ted failon's wife amounting to at least Php 1 M.

what is so interesting in this case is that there is no one among the victim's family who is accusing anyone of "shooting ted failon's wife" as the police seem to suggest. all of them -- the victim's siblings, the daughter, the househelp and driver, and ted failon himself -- are saying that the wife committed suicide and all their testimonies jibe with each other. it is the police which is seemingly insistent that there is foul play to the point of arresting just about anyone they feel like it without the benefit of a warrant of arrest. additionally, i'm surprised at the very quick action by the justice secreatary, raul gonzales, in getting a hold departure order against failon in effect. kung sa talaglog pa, mabilis pa sa alas cuarto. is it possible to prevent the departure of a person wanting to go elsewhere on account of being suspected of commiting a crime? let us remember, a suspect is considered innocent unless otherwise proven guilty. and to think that there has been no court battle yet let alone even a criminal case filed against anyone related to the incident. something is definitely fishy here.

years ago, what happened was that filipina wives of foreign husbands were taken to their husband's country. while there, they were insured for a considerable sum. after a few years, they were thrown out the window of their condo but of course, it was made to appear like an accident. in the end, the husband collected money from the poor filipina wife's "accidental" death.

obviously, filipinas have now found a way of getting back at foreigner husbands, and have suceeded in turning the tables around.

quote from lorenzo: "One of the best intelligence wings in the world: Mossad."

very true. in fact, they may be the best intelligence group in the world. they have accomplished things that no one else has, not even the americans... what comes to mind at the moment is how the israeli commandos with the aid of the mossad was able to rescue jewish passengers of a plane that was hijacked to entebbe in uganda back in 1979 or 1980 (am not so sure of the date) when it was still under the rule of idi amin. the israelis were able to get near the hijacked plane by taking with them on a C-130 a replica of idi amin's presidential limousine complete with a passenger in the back seat that was made to appear like idi amin, in order to fool the soldiers guarding the hijacked plane. this operation was implemented to almost 100 perfection. in the end, all passengers on the plane were rescued but the commandos suffered a lone casualty: that of their ground commander. coincidentally, this commander whose name was col. yonni netanyahu was the younger brother of an israeli politician who years later became israeli prime minister.

a few years later, the americans tried to do repeat this israeli feat when they tried to rescue the americans who were taken hostages at the US embassy in tehran, iran. the raiders (i think it was a navy seal team) could not even get near the building; their chopper crashed in the desert and everyone on board was charred beyond recognition.

the story of the hunt for adolf eichmann in argentina was made into a movie sometime in the 80s. mossad agents actually went to argentina, staked out his residence for several days and when all preparations were finalized, they arrested eichmann one night and smuggled him out of argentina via a regular el al plane. (el al is israel's national airline.) the mossad agents had to dress as flight crew to pass through airport security while eichmann who was injected with tranquilizers was made to appear as a flight crew member who had one drink too many. the guy who masterminded the arrest of eichman was simon wiesenthal. he is known in israel as "the nazi hunter" because he was responsible for bringing other notorious nazi personalities who were involved in the pogrom that claimed the lives of an estimated 6 million jews.

quote from hofelina: "I love to read your postings Bolingitoy, do  have some suggestions to make this dream come true?"

the VMG (vision, mission, goals) statement of the provincial government of bohol intends to focus in making the province a leading eco-cultural tourism destination with a strong agriculture base. i think it is going the right direction in terms of tourism development but the agricultural development aspects leaves much to be desired. i think the main reason why this is so is that the provincial government does not even have a specific action plan on how to realize these visions. timing lang (read:swerte) ang tourism gains experienced by bohol because it is designated as one of the 8 anchor destinations in the country that are fully supported by the department of tourism. kung dili pa apil and bohol sa 8 anchor destinations, manimaho untang anhoy ang turismo sa bohol... and this explains why agricultural development has not moved an inch in bohol. on the national level, there is no clear cut policy kung unsa gyud ang klarong focus. on the provincial level, labaw nang wa... bohol has potential in becoming a food basket but unless there is an integrated agricultural development plan that will be developed in order to set a specific direction that development will take, bohol will continue to be dependent on food grown from other places and remain a backward agricultural economy.

raqs, this is one for the books. maau unta kung nakuhaan to ug video kay lingaw gyud kaau tan-awon... a pack of dogs queueing up for their turn to get a shot of vaccine. almost unbelievable. morag sine nga cartoons.

rabies spreads fast among dogs that are allowed to go out of their owner's homes. in effect this means that the number of stray dogs (dogs that roam freely on the streets) has a direct correlation with the risk of getting and/or spreading rabies. bottom line? just make sure there are NO STRAY in the streets and the risk of rabies is considerably decreased, it not, totally eliminated... we'll see if the provincial vet is worth her salt.

"Dreaming of Bohol as Food Basket"

exactly what it is -- just a dream. while it is true that almost anything can be done if there is a will to do it, the absence of an economic development plan let alone an integrated development plan for bohol bespeaks of the real attitude current boholano leaders have about this issue. sure, a few souls might be able to grow some veggies here and there, it will certainly be a far cry from being a food basket... this is not cynicism, just pure and simple realism.

if alcohol continues to be readily available in any neighborhood sari-sari store which can be bought even by a 6-year-old kid sent out by the parents, then all drugs which are currently prohibited such as cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin should be legalized. this will generate more revenues for the government on top of taxes imposed on alcohol... as to the issue that drugs is a social menace, the same is true with alcohol. police and medical records everywhere will reveal large data on crimes and accidents that occured while the perpetrators were under the influence of alcohol. so why should cannabis, amphetamines, et al should be treated any differently when all these substances inlcuding alcohol have the same effect on humans? otherwise, if we as a society should want to eliminate intoxicating substances that result to the commission of crimes and occurences of vehicular accidents, then all intoxicating substances should be prohibited and banned, alcohol included.

Quote from Raquel: "Ayo pa ang Pilipinas ingsunod pero si Al Gore wala siguro.Perting landaga kono sa iya mansion."

that is exactly the irony of it all, raqs... the earth hour campaign turned out to be successful in the philippines because a great majority of filipinos took part in it. but its implication is that a small and poor country like the philippines which generates very little volume of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which accounts for most of the greenhouse gases (GHGs) that results to climate change has to make sacrifices so that a rich and developed country like the united states can continue to exist in its usual ostentatious and extravagant ways. and to top it all, the U.S. which burns a humugous volume of fossil fuels that create all those GHGs is one of four industrialized countries that refused to sign to commit to the kyoto protocol, an international agreement which was established in the 90s to minimize GHG emissions. bottomline? kita ray giilad anang mga kanahan.

the earth hour campaign may have been successful in the philippines but in terms of its contribution to the mitigation of climate change due greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, it is very insignificant. this is because the philippines burns a very small volume of fossil fuels that account for most of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere compared to the amount of CO2 generated by large developed countries like the United States. the most sickening part is that the U.S. has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol, the international agreement established to minimize carbon dioxide emission. so, the implication of the earth hour is that small and poor countries like the philippines has to make sacrifices so that rich and developed countries like the U.S. can continue to enjoy themselves and engage in their usual extravagant ways.

amazing that andy williams is still alive, more so that he is still active in doing live performances... i don't blame u if you drifted off to sleep most of the time u were watching his show, he belongs to a much earlier era and so does his music. but he sounds great to oldtimers. at least you enjoyed his version of "moon river".

yes, you found it, grazie... so, thanks to glacier for sharing it and thanks grazie for pointing it out. now i know ... i have always disliked kiko for authoring that law that gets criminals aged 15 and below off the hook. i'm certainly not sorry to learn that it is he who is the great author of RA 9262. i would gladly campaign among the menfolk when kiko is up for reelection to dump him into the pits.

working in manila in the mid 90s brought me regularly to the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). each time i came, security people would express amazement at my being boholano which was reflected in my driver's license that i presented as identification: they thought i was malaysian, japanese, thai, burmese... in tagbilaran, some people have approached me on the street speaking english thinking that i don't speak bisaya. one time, someone even greeted me with, "hi joe" while i was taking a late afternoon walk. this is very amusing given that i look every inch a filipino.

quote from apothecary: "I used to know about a sandbar in Talibon, i think it's Mahaba Island now, which was christened by an NGO group as Tirot. It should sound editable in the Cebuano. Hmm"

the term "tirot" was invented by staff of CVRP-Talibon Site Management Unit. there were indeed places they called tirot as well as their pumpboats which they names tirot I, tirot II, etc... charito should be able to give additional information on this.

walay nakaila ninyo ni leo abaya of calceta street, tagbilaran city? he was awarded twice in a row as best production designer for the movies "Rizal" and "Muro Ami". interestinglyly, both movies starred cesar montano and were both directed by marilou diaz-abaya (no relation to leo) who both won in their respective categories for the same above-mentioned movies.

Manay"

i'm doing ok, manay. thanks for asking... i'm just curious as to the author of RA 9262 because it is so one-sided and biased. i have talked to one of the regional directors of DSWD in mindanao and even she opined that 9262 heavily favors women. nothing whatsoever about women mauling their husbands, which also happens, albeit not as often as men mauling their wives. so i'm wondering who authored this law because i'd like to know whom not to vote for in the next elections.

grazie, i'm not sure about kiko cuneta being the author of RA 9262. i'm sure though that he authored the unpopular juvenile law that allows criminals 15 years and below to roam free... i'm still interested though to know who authored 9262, if there's anyone in here who might be able to tell me.

"i see. i remember, bolingit, one woman told me years and years ago, that she had a resort too in cebu. and the sand were from bohol. and she amusingly confided me, "share the gift, di ba?" toinks!!! legal nang pagkabalhina, bay bolingit, sa balas gikan sa talibon? aw, naa bay illegal og ingon ani? hehehe."

taking sand from bohol to "refurbish" rocky beaches in mactan was and still is illegal. this would probably also respond to glacier's query why people in talibon and other northern bohol towns did not complain about it. as a matter of fact, they did, and it led to an investigation that found the missing bohol sand sitting prettily along the nice powdery white beaches of mactan especially those areas fronting five-star resort hotels... obviously, the sand was sucked from underneath (read: stolen) when no one was looking. i suppose people are more vigilant now and incidents like this should happen less often especially if these coastal towns maintain an active and functional bantay dagat unit.

mdb, you should go and visit lake sebu town in south cotabato the next time you come around for a PI visit. lake sebu is probably the tilapia capital hereabouts. there, you will find all kinds of tilapia recipes: fried tilapia, kinilaw tilapia, paksiw tilapia, inihaw, tilapia, and even chicharon tilapia, believe it or not.
