it is never healthy.  frankly, while i admire many things muslim, specifically arab, i cannot for the life of me understand how it works when one has two wives, never mind the maximum limit of four wives.

i know of people though who are on emotional life support, and for their own emotional survival they won't give up on a very bad relationship yet unless there's already someone else for them to fall back to.  i'll never forget this advice of a friend to another friend whose relationships were all devastating:  you rest first.  don't jump from one failed relationship to another; give yourself time to ask yourself what it is you really want.

isles, have you read the q'uran as well as read about the hadiths of the prophet muhammad concerning marriages?

TYPE 2-- ADULT ONSET (NON-INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS)

-there is an increased resistance to insulin by the receptors
-insulin therapy is not necessarily needed, if glucose levels are controlled (via oral hypoglycemics)
-patients are usually > 40 years of age
-there is a strong genetic predisposition
-there is no association with the HLA system
-there is mild to moderate glucose intolerance
-ketoacidosis is rare (so long as glucose levels are controlled)

treatment: oral hypoglycemics (glucophage, metformin, sulfonylureas), for uncontrolled diabetes give: ultralente, or direct insulin medication.

#19915
as a clinician, i have to make sure we differentiate type 1 from type 2 diabetics. one can notice that there is a variability in manifestation that differentiates one from the other.

TYPE 1- JUVENILE ONSET (INSULIN-DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS)

-the etiology of the destruction of the b-cells is immune (autoimmune) and viral
-there is always a need for direct insulin therapy; insuline-dependent
-patients are usually < 30 years of age; sex is irrelevant for predisposition
-there is weak genetic predisposition, this is polygenic
there is a strong association with the HLA system (autoimmune)
-severe glucose intolerance
-common to develop ketoacidosis
-decreased insulin level; requires direct infusion daily
-symptoms observed: polyuria, polydipsia, thirst, weight loss

treatment: IV insulin for life

A medical lecture on diabetes (mellitus)

by: A. Lorenzo Lucino Jr, MD-Ph.D Intern

diabetes is a disease of the endocrine system in which there is a partial, or total failure of the pancreatic b-cells (beta-cells) to create insulin, a hormone of the endocrine system. if the pancreatic beta cells are totally missing, there is a global loss of insulin, rendering that individual with diabetes mellitus type i (insulin dependent). if there is a gradual loss of insulin due to the break down of beta cells of the pancreas , typically seen in middle aged, obese individuals, this person will develop diabetes mellitus type ii.

acute manifestations of diabetes mellitus:
polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, weight loss, dka type 1 (diabetic ketoacidosis), hyperosmolar coma type 2, unopposed secretion of GH (growth hormone) and epinephrine (exacerbates hyperglycemia)

chronic manifestations of diabetes mellitus:
small vessel disease --> retinopathy, glaucoma, nephropathy
large vessel atherclerosis , cad (coronary artery disease), peripheral vascular occlusive disease and gangrene, cerebrovascular disease

osmotic dammages:
neuropathy (motor, sensory and autonomic degeneration)
cataracts (sorbitol accumulation

tests given to monitor patients:
fasting serum glucose, glucose tolerance test, hba1c

Isles, Vladimir is a very common slavic name. A very good friend of mine from the Ukraine was Vladimir Aleksandrov (i met him when i was studying abroad in the Ukraine in 2006). The western version of 'Vladimir' is : Waldemar (in german) , pronounced Valdemar.

This name was popularized recently because it was the name of Harry Potter's arch-nemesis, Lord Valdemort. ;)

Emperor Constantine embracing the Christian Pope
#19938
History / Re: The Conversion of Emperor Constantine
August 11, 2011, 04:27:48 PM
Constantine became the emperor of Rome in 306, and was the most powerful person in his part of the world. His conversion to Christianity had far reaching effects on the common practice of the religion and on all the factions of Christianity that are present today.

His conversion happened during a war against his brother-in-law and co-emperor, Maxentius. According to the historian Eusebius (see Eusebius Pamphilus ), bishop of Caesarea in Palestine, before the crucial battle of Milvian Bridge, Constantine was convinced that he needed divine assistance. While he was praying for such assistance, God sent him a vision of a cross of light at midday, bearing the inscription "in hoc signo vinces " ("in this sign you will be victorious"). That night he had a dream that reaffirmed his earlier vision. God told him to use the sign he had been given as a safeguard in all of his battles. Thus, Constantine converted to Christianity and ordered the symbol of his Savior's name (the intersection of the Greek letter chi and rho) to represent his army. Constantine was victorious in the battle of the Milvian Bridge, and he continued to wear the symbol for Christ against every hostile power he faced.

Some argue as to whether or not Constantine's conversion experience was authentic. Some hypothesize that the "vision" Constantine saw was nothing more than a form of the rare natural event called the "halo phenomenon." This is caused by the sun reflecting off of ice crystals instead of rain in a rainbow. However, most historians accept Constantine's statement since he gave the testimony on oath. Also, Constantine showed sound judgment many times over in other situations. Further, Constantine did not recount this vision to Eusebius until long after that battle had been won and he was in power. Thus, he was not using the story as a tool to gain acceptance. There is no way to "prove" the event, of course, but what is important is that Constantine believed it to be true.

His conversion helped Christianity in many ways. Followers were safe from persecution, and Christian leaders were given many gifts by the Emperor. Constantine's adherence to Christianity ensured exposure of all his subjects to the religion, and he had no small domain. He also made Sunday an official Roman holiday so that more people could attend church, and made churches tax-exempt. However, many of the same things that helped Christianity spread subtracted from its personal significance and promoted corruption and hypocrisy. Many people were attracted to the Church because of the money and favored positions available to them from Constantine rather than from piety. The growth of the Church and its new-found public aspect prompted the building of specialized places of worship where leaders were architecturally separated from the common attendees, which stood in sharp contrast to the earlier house churches which were small and informal.

Constantine believed that the Church and the State should be as close as possible. From 312-320 Constantine was tolerant of paganism, keeping pagan gods on coins and retaining his pagan high priest title "Pontifex Maximus" in order to maintain popularity with his subjects, possibly indicating that he never understood the theology of Christianity. From 320-330 he began to attack paganism through the government but in many cases persuaded people to follow the laws by combining pagan worship with Christianity. He made December 25th, the birthday of the pagan Unconquered Sun god, the official holiday it is now--the birthday of Jesus. It is likely that he also instituted celebrating Easter and Lent based on pagan holidays. From 330-337 Constantine stepped up his destruction of paganism, and during this time his mother, Helen, made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and began excavations to recover artifacts in the city. This popularized the tradition of pilgrimages in Christianity.

Whether or not his conversion was "genuine," Constantine's reign was extremely important to the Christian church. After his vision, he immediately declared Christianity legal in the Edict of Milan. He completely abandoned paganism and put his full force of favor towards advancing the cause of the Church of Christ. He provided Christianizing legislation on such matters as the observance of Sunday, the confiscation of the temple treasures, and the exemption of some clergy from taxes. He funded Christian leaders and the construction of churches, some of which he dedicated to his mother. Most Christian leaders greatly admired Constantine for the works he did for the church and Christian cause.

While Constantine's idea of an integrated Church and State, (now called Constantinism), began having sway in the empire upon his conversion, it became significantly stronger through several events. In 316, a sect of Christians called the Donatists asked Constantine as emperor to settle a dispute they were having with the church in North Africa over the personhood of Christ. (Ironically, this was resolved by Constantine favoring the N. African church.) This was the first time that a political leader had power in the religious sphere. In 324, Constantine defeated his co-emperor in the west, Licinius, leaving Constantine dominion over the east and the west to uproot paganism where tolerant Licinus had not. He also called together and presided over the Council of Nicaea that 300 bishops attended, which again dealt with the Arian controversy about the nature of the divinity of Jesus. The Council issued an official statement of creed affirming Jesus' complete divinity, and the decision was enforced politically by Constantine. the dispute over the personhood of Christ. They drafted the Creed of Nicaea, the predecessor to the Nicene Creed, a proclamation of faith still used by many Christian denominations today.

Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.  As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out -- the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.  When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry."
Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"  The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."  This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.

August 11, 2011, 04:05:50 PM

1 Getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to His own city.
2 And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven."
3 And some of the scribes said to themselves, "This fellow blasphemes."
4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?
5 "Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, and walk'?
6 "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--then He said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and go home."

7 And he got up and went home.

Now the serpent was more shrewd than any of the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Is it really true that God said, ‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit from the trees of the orchard; 3 but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, ‘You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it, or else you will die.’” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die, 5 for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open and you will be like divine beings who know good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

Then The Lord God made a woman from the rib He had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man." 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
  11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
  21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day

This past weekend, I discovered Ravenswood Bookstore close to Andersonville, Chicago. It's a little book store in the corner; filled from top to bottom with old books. Their military history genre is amazing. I took some pictures.

Close by, i found a very nice wine store. Sauvignon blanc, anyone? :)

Poems and Poets / Feeling Stronger

We're Feeling Stronger
The Time Is Near
To Leave The Past
The Pain, The Fear.

We'll No Longer Have A Need To Cry
With No Looking Back
Of Years Gone By.

Bad Memories Will Be Forgot
This Life We've Lived
Of Wars We've Fought.

Moving Forward Is What We Must Do
Escape Borken Promises
Life's Hardships Too.

With No Regrets
We Shed This World Of Lies
As We Watch The Beginning
Of A New Sunrise.......

The devil tells all of mankind that everyone has the right to express 'freedom' of expression in the following:

1. make a mockery of religious icons
2. make a mockery of the sacrament of real marriage
3. make a mockery of the body (via unnatural surgical changes)
4. make a mockery of the sanctity of life (where the woman claims right to murder an unborn child by her whim)
5. make a mockery of church by attacking church members, church leaders on accusations that are libelous
6. make a mockery of the worship of God by desecrating the sanctity of Worship

etc, etc, etc.

in the end, the devil hates God. he cannot stand God and the worship of God's Sanctified Name. he will, and has, influence many to question their faith, and to attack the sanctity of God's Name and God's Presence. because the devil can never become God, and because he is destined to perdition and damnation in the end of times, he will make sure he takes many of us with him through his pervasive lies and treachery.

he is the father of lies, the great protester, the accuser. may God rebuke him.

May Archangel Michael, Glorious Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, cast down Satan and his minions again into the pit of hell. May the glorious and sanctified foot of Michael, Prince of Heaven , break the heads of the devil and his minions. Defend us , Archangel Michael.

Amen.

Sacrilege:

Sacrilege is in general the violation or injurious treatment of a sacred object. In a less proper sense any transgression against the virtue of religion would be a sacrilege.

Theologians are substantially agreed in regarding as sacred that and that only which by a public rite and by Divine or ecclesiastical institution has been dedicated to the worship of God. The point is that the public authority must intervene; private initiative, no matter how ardent in devotion or praiseworthy in motive, does not suffice. Attributing a sacred character to a thing is a juridical act, and as such is a function of the governing power of the Church.

It is customary to enumerate three kinds of sacrilege: personal, local, and real. St. Thomas teaches (Summa, II-II, Q., xcix) that a different sort of holiness attaches to persons, places, and things. Hence the irreverence offered to any one of them is specifically distinct from that which is exhibited to the others.

mga boang ra pood mo try to steal the sacred image of Santo Nino. mo tuo baya ko sa gaba.

tinuod ni what i tell you guys:

when i was in leyte, i happened to go to the shrine of San Roque sa Pintuyan. i was told hat someone tried to steal the image of San Roque , the patron saint of Pintuyan, however, when the individual took the image of the saint, that person was struck down with disease. as was told to me by the local herbal doctor (quack doctor), that thief's eyes were literally popping out of his eyes, and his stomach enlarged by the day. this person could not defecate. he went to the local quack doctor, who, after seeing the person's situation, knew that he stole something. the quack doctor's advice to him was prompt , direct as well as simple, "i-balik to imong gi kawat".

the thief , after being told by the quack doctor, returned the statue of San Roque back to the shrine where it came from.

when he arrived at the shrine, there were old ladies there (mga tigulang nga kahibalo mo benediksyon og mo ampo) met the thief and thanked him for returning the statue.

after the statue was returned, his ailment slowly faded away.

na gabaan to'ng tawhana, pero gi balik nija og nag pasayloa to sija sa mga tigulang baje nga mo hatag og benedisyon sa shrine, na wa ijang gibati.

tinuo ni. i was told of this incident by the same quack doctor; the one who gave me a panuhot massage when i was in leyte.

this looks like publicity at all cost, no different from any bad news is good news.  these unknown artists are now in the papers because they managed to shock the public.  they got the publicity, didn't they?

what, indeed, is the art in showing a penis on christ's forehead?  here's one more proof that sometimes perverts pass themselves off as artists.  if only i knew anyone of them, even remotely, so i can tell him that his group should go further in their expression by displaying themselves, asses up and bare, with a stone penis in their openings.  call it performance art.

The sad thing about this is that i wouldn't be surprised if these so called artists would do just that...

shock value to the extreme.
