Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me."

     - John 12:23-26

The message of the gospel is so powerful that it is best described in the language of death and resurrection. It seems that as we follow after Christ we are brought to places where we must die to our will and plans. Unless we are willing “hate his life in this world” we will always go the route of safety and comfort. Yet the Christian walk is the road less traveled. Many times the roadblocks that we face can only be crossed when we let go our our lives to enter into the path that Christ walked on this Holy Week - a path of losing our lives to find them.

know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh.

    â€" Romans 8:3

Notice how the law is portrayed as powerless. It could never address the sinful nature; all the law could do was identify our weakness toward sin. But when God gave the law, He was setting the stage â€" the law was never supposed to deliver us. God gave standards that were so high that only God Himself could fulfill them. That’s what He did in Jesus Christ. The perfect man became the sin offering for all of humanity. This is the action that brings freedom to anyone who receives God’s mercy by faith.

But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.

    â€" 1 John 3:5

Christ was able to take away our sins because He was the only sinless man in the universe. In the same way, that we use fresh cloths to clean a mess, Jesus spotless life took the stain of our sin so that God would see our lives as spotless before Him. Does this seem too good to be true? That is why it is called the gospel, or the good news. God offers this to all of us today.  :)

August 18, 2011, 12:58:50 PM
Iloilo City, the Capital of Iloilo Province is considered to be one of the Philippines' oldest cities. It was founded the same time with Manila at 1571. The city lies between  Jaro river and Iloilo Straight making the city one of the country's  busiest seaports. The port of Iloilo once exported sugar products of Negros which added to the spur of the city's economic growth. When the port in Bacolod City was improved, the economy of the city declined. Today, the City progresses once again, reviving its forgotten existence. The city slowly recaptures its identity of being the trade center of the Visayas.

The City of Iloilo had been the educational center of the South, with the most Universities outside manila. The oldest University in the Province, Unibersidad de San Agustin, was founded on 1904 by spanish friars. Central Philippine University, the educational magnate of Western Visayas, is probably the largest Protestant Institution in the world. St. Paul's University and West Visayas State University had been recognized for producing quality board passers while University of the Philippines Visayas remains as the center of quality education in the region.

There are five suburban districts in Iloilo City; Jaro, once a city within a city, is the seat of power during Spanish regime, the district lives in an era of colonization. Until these days, its 19th century architecture is very remarkable. Manduriao and LaPaz are the city's residential and comercial capitals. Molo, the Athens of the Philippines is known for producing great political leaders such as senators and congressmen. Arevalo, the most colorful district of the city is known as the Flower village which bloom with different colors and captivating aromas.

Dinagyang lights up the streets of Iloilo on the fourth week of January, this festival commemorates Christianity in the Region. The Festival gives honor to the Child Jesus and the thundering "Hala Biras" of the performers fill the air with adrenalin pumping excitement. The ignition of street dances and the explosion of traditional music is a pleasent treat that will surely leave the spectators with awe.

Miagao Church: The UNESCO World Heritage Site

The world famous church of Miagao has been referred as one of the Philippines' most remarkable tourist destinations. It is obviously true since the church is the best representation of genuine Filipino artistry, the facade of Miagao, the most ornate of its kind, is extremely decorated with curves and irregular movent, a design from the lines of the Rococo, Churrisguresque and Baroque. The church of Miagao is also noted for the belfries which are not symmetrical.

The Classic facade of Santa Barbara Church is a beautiful example of Baroque Renaissance Architecture. The exaggerated use of cornices created a three-layered effect on the facade. Baroque Finials dominate the church pediment. Archwindows with graceful curves gave the church few romanesque additions. The convent of Santa Barbara, is of Moorish designs, such designs were derived from Southern Spain's Moorish regions.

Lambunao Church

The appearance of Lambunao Church can be associated with colonial churches in Latin America. The Beautiful alternate movement brought by round columns and the curvilinear pediment each crowned by a baroque finial is a classic and positive distortion from Neoclassicism's plain features.

Ruins of Janiuay Church

The Church of Janiuay, is fine example of Spanish Neoclassicism. Ruined in the Second World War. Almost finished in 1871, the first level and the belfry of Janiuay church was made of red bricks while the second level was built of wood and light materials. It was said that the bricks from the ruined part of the church was used to construct the Japanese Landing Feild now the New Iloilo Airprt in the neighboring town of Cabatuan.

Cabatuan Church: The Model of Temples

Finished in 1834, the Neoclassic Church of Cabatuan is grand an example of a European basilica. This is the only extant Spanish church in Iloilo which has three facades. The Belfries are plain examples of Byzantine Architecture with  supporting Neoclassic essences. The Church is a beautiful of example of an Italian Medieval structure as proven by those small rectangular windows which contrasts the church's massive form.

The Provice of Iloilo was once one of Spain's leading Capitals in the Philippine Islands. Its highly colonized towns testify its rich history through their laudable historical destinations. The numerous collection of Churches, Mansions and Cemeteries departs Iloilo away from its asian terrain. Its magnificent splendor overlaps the ordinary. Churches with its distinct European and Latin American appeal will transport any tourist in an era centuries away from the present. Its stonewalled cemeteries may seduce any traveler to stop by and feel the essence of memories forgotten by time.

John 3: 1- 21

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘Y must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heavenâ€"the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

3 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

Excerpts from Letters of Ignatius

To The Ephesians

I do not command you as if I were someone great, for even though I be bound in the Name, I am not yet perfect in Jesus Christ. For now I do but begin to be a disciple and I speak to you as to my fellow learners. And it were fitting for me to be anointed by you for the contest,[7] with faith, admonition, patience, long-suffering. But since love does not suffer me to be silent concerning you, I have therefore hastened to exhort you to set yourselves in harmony with the mind of God. For Jesus Christ, our inseparable Life, is the mind of the Father, even as the bishops who are settled in the farthest parts of the earth are the mind of Christ.

4. Hence it is fitting for you to set yourselves in harmony with the mind of the bishop, as indeed you do. For your noble presbytery, worthy of God, is attuned to the bishop, even as the strings to a lyre. And thus by means of your accord and harmonious love Jesus Christ is sung. Form yourselves one and all into a choir,[8] that blending in concord and taking the keynote of God, you may sing in unison with one voice through Jesus Christ to the Father, that he may hear you and recognize you through your good deeds to be members of His Son. Therefore it is profitable for you to live in blameless unity, that you may always enjoy communion with God....

10. And for the rest of mankind pray unceasingly-for there is in them hope of repentance, that they may attain unto God. Let them also be instructed by the example of your works. In face of their outbursts of wrath be patient; in face of their arrogant words be humble; meet their revilings with prayers; where they are in error be steadfast in the faith; in face of their violence be gentle. Be not anxious to retaliate on them. Let our forbearance prove us their brethren. Endeavor to imitate the Lord, striving who can suffer the greater wrong, who can be more defrauded, who can be set at naught, that no rank weed of the devil be found in you. In all purity and sobriety abide in Christ Jesus in flesh and in spirit.

There is a legend that the emperor Trajan himself, who wintered in Antioch in the year 115, examined the aged Bishop Ignatius in the year 115, with questions such as these:

"Who are you, spirit of evil, who dare disobey my orders and goad others on to their destruction?"

"No one calls Theophorus a spirit of evil," the bishop replied.

"Who is Theophorus?"

"He who bears Christ within him."

"And do we not bear within ourselves the gods who help us against our enemies?"

"You are mistaken when you call gods those who are no better than devils. There is but one God, who created heaven and earth and all that in them is; and one Jesus, made Christ, into whose kingdom I earnestly desire to be admitted."

"Do you mean Him who was crucified under Pontius Pilate?"

"Yes, the same, who by His death has crucified both sin and its author, and who has proclaimed that every malice of the devil shall be trodden underfoot by those who bear Him in their hearts."

"Do you then," asked the Emperor, "bear Christ within you?" "Yes," said Ignatius, "for it is written, 'I will dwell in them and will walk with them.’"

According to the legend, Trajan ruled that Ignatius should die. He was bound and conveyed to Rome, to be devoured by wild beasts in the Colosseum. From this point on, we are on firm ground, historically speaking, with Ignatius' own letters, seven of which are still extant, to tell us the story. At the seaport of Seleucia they boarded a ship that made many stops along the shores of Asia Minor, instead of proceeding directly to Rome. Some of Ignatius' friends took the direct route west and, reaching Rome before him, awaited his arrival. For a great part of the journey he had as companions a deacon, Philo, and a friend, Agathopus, supposedly the authors of an account of his martyrdom. On shipboard Ignatius was guarded by ten soldiers so brutal that he speaks of them as "ten leopards," and adds that they only grew worse when kindly treated.

Wherever the ship put in, the local Christians sent bishops and priests to meet the venerable bishop, and crowds gathered to receive the benediction of one who was already revered as a martyr.

St. Ignatius the Martyr
#19785
These are the fearless words of a great Christian martyr on the way to his death around the end of the first century. He apparently was later fed literally to the beasts â€" eaten by lions. What faith these words bear witness to!

And what powerful imagery of how the trials and suffering of this life bring about our perfection. Oh, what value there is in suffering when we allow it to create in us “the pure bread of Christ.”

“I am the wheat of God. Let me be ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.”

What staunch faith! St. Polycarp, who was the bishop of Smyrna, taught and preached the WORD, but also acted on the WORD.

May we learn from men such as St. Polycarp, who preferred to die as martyrs than reject the Faith in Jesus Christ!

The testimony of St. Irenaeus:
"...Polycarp, besides being instructed by the Apostles and acquainted with many who had seen the Lord, was also appointed by the Apostles for Asia as bishop of the church in Smyrna. Even I saw him in my early youth; for he remained with us a long time, and at a great age suffered martyrdom full of glory and renown and departed this life, having taught always the things which he had learned from the Apostles, which the Church hands down, which alone are true. There testify to these things all the churches throughout Asia, and the successors of Polycarp down to this day, testimonies to the truth far more trustworthy and reliable than Valentinus and Marcion and the other misguided persons..."

John 10:16 says...

[And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.]

Reply:

This "other sheep" mentioned in this verse are the Jews. Jesus is a Jew and he wanted to bring the house of Israel in his Church. But the Jews don't believe in Jesus. But once he will hear his voice then there will be one fold and one shepherd.

One thing that I also notice, Sir, is that Apostle Paul was also very adamant in evangelizing and converting the Jews directly and indirectly. This is very interesting to note:

When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.

Addendum:

The Eternal and Living God created Adam literally in the Image of God. God breathed life into Adam, who was created from clay and dirt. The sole reason why God created Eve was to accompany Adam in the Garden of Eden. She (Eve) was created so that she would be the partner of Adam.

Hence, Man and Woman were created for each other.

But before Eve was created God already made humans in his own image. In Genesis 1:27 you can read; So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

In my honest and humble view, Sir, when it is mentioned in Genesis 1:27 that God created man in His own image, Genesis refers to the creation of Adam. Adam was the prototype so to say, the progenitor of the Family of Man. Woman comes from Man, if we refer to the Christian declaration in how Woman came to be. Eve was part of Adam. Genesis 2 reiterates the same message that God created man and woman from His own image.

Since God made Adam out of His own image, and since Eve was created from Adam, then Even shares the relation to God.

[The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!]

Reply:

This quote is from John the Baptist who do not believe in the sacrifice in the temple. The Jews believe that when a man sinned he is commanded in the mosaic law to make an animal [preferably a lamb] sacrifice in the temple  to take away his sins. In Christianity Jesus sacrifice on the cross took away all sins of the world and ended all sacrifices in the temple.

Yes, indeed. As per the saying of my good friend and Catholic Priest, Fr. Mark Hoffman (my spiritual advisor during my time of discerning if priesthood was really God's plan for me), ingon si Fr. Hoffman namo (the male collegiate discerners): "Jesus Christ is the Sovereign Lord. Christ Is Heaven's Perfect Lamb."

Tinuod Gayud.

Christ Is the Perfect Lamb. That whosoever believeth in Him, and declares that Jesus is Lord and Savior, will be saved.

Jesus answered, "I Am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should
Play the way you feel it

But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost...
And what you had...
And what you lost

(Oooooh)

Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say, women...they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know

Now here I go again, I see, the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and...

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness...
Like a heartbeat drives you mad...
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost...
What you had...
Ooh, what you lost

Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know

Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know
You will know
Oh, oh, oh you'll know
