Philippine Daily News / Sino-Philippine trade to double
September 08, 2011, 02:23:15 PM
By Cheng Guangjin and Lan Lan

BEIJING, Sep. 1 (Xinhuanet) --China and the Philippines aim to double bilateral trade to $60 billion in 2016, indicating that economic cooperation is a priority as the countries put aside the South China Sea dispute that has strained ties.

Securing a number of deals with China on Wednesday, Philippine President Benigno Aquino continued with his five-day state visit and reiterated that there is much more to Sino-Philippine relations than maritime disputes.

Officials, with their presidents in attendance following talks that lasted for about an hour, signed nine documents including a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation between the two foreign ministries and a five-year trade and economic development program.

Aquino's first visit to China, from Aug 30 to Sept 3, comes just over a year since he assumed the presidency and takes place after a recent dispute in the South China Sea.

Aquino said earlier in August that his nation's military would play a more prominent role in the South China Sea as the Philippine navy's newest warship sailed into Manila Bay from the United States.

China insists it has indisputable sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea and surrounding waters, while the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam all have competing claims to some islands and reefs in the resource-rich area.

China has been consistent and clear in its stance on the issue and insists that the disputes be resolved peacefully through negotiations, Hu told Aquino, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Hu suggested that all sides concerned put aside disputes before the issue is resolved and jointly explore the South China Sea, which he said is in the common interests of all relevant parties.

Hu said China is willing to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) with all parties, including the Philippines, to turn the sea into an area of peace, friendship and cooperation.

Aquino said that the Philippines is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region and implementing the DOC.

The South China Sea issue does not constitute the entirety of Sino-Philippine relations, and should not affect the development of ties and cooperation, Aquino said.

He also said that he hopes the issue could be resolved as soon as possible for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

The documents signed included an assistance grant from China and sending investment experts to the Philippines. Deals concerning cooperation in culture, sports, tourism and the media were also signed.

China was the first country to extend an invitation to Aquino, on his inauguration day, June 30, 2010.

Aside from the South China Sea dispute, diplomatic relations were also buffeted over the past year by the botched rescue of Hong Kong bus hostages in Manila.

"I apologize for taking too long, about a year, before I managed to get here," Aquino said. "But it is a worthwhile trip so far and I think it is a good opportunity to broaden and deepen the ties that have existed between our people for centuries."

The two countries hope to boost bilateral trade to $60 billion in 2016, Vice-Premier Wang Qishan said at the China-Philippines Economic and Trade Forum on Wednesday morning.

Aquino led a delegation of nearly 300 business leaders to China during his visit. Two more business forums will be held in Shanghai and Xiamen.

Bilateral trade hit $27.7 billion in 2010, up 35 percent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. China is the third-largest trading partner of the Philippines after the US and Japan.

Bible Study / The Four Marks of the Catholic Church
September 07, 2011, 01:20:54 AM
The Four Marks of the Church is a term describing four specific adjectivesâ€"one, holy, catholic and apostolicâ€"indicating four major distinctive marks or distinguishing characteristics of the Christian Church. The belief that the Church is characterized by these four particular "marks" was first expressed by the First Council of Constantinople in the year 381 in its revision of the Nicene Creed, in which it included the statement: "[We believe] in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church." In Protestant theology these are sometimes called the attributes of the Church.

"Save politics for politics"

You are so very correct, Fr. Roel. The dirt of politics and the rivalry in politics should not be allowed to pit us against each other; brother against brother. Father fighting with son etc. In the end of the DAY-- we are all BOL-ANON. With the shared LOVE and AFFECTION for our Home.

Ako galing, I left Bohol when I was some 4 years old turning 5 years old. Yet I still love Bohol. I could care less about the politics. Let us focus our energy on community building, community awareness, and brotherly affection for each other. Put away all differences and negativity and disagreements.

May God Bless Bohol and all Boholanos!

In June, 2001 U.S. Congressional Representative Dana Rohrabacher described the horrors and brutality that the prisoners experienced on the march:

"They were beaten, and they were starved as they marched. Those who fell were bayoneted. Some of those who fell were beheaded by Japanese officers who were practicing with their samurai swords from horseback. The Japanese culture at that time reflected the view that any warrior who surrendered had no honor; thus was not to be treated like a human being. Thus they were not committing crimes against human beings.[...] The Japanese soldiers at that time [...] felt they were dealing with subhumans and animals."

History / Japanese war dead in the Philippines
September 04, 2011, 02:54:45 PM
During the World War II, 2, 400, 000 Japanese soldiers and civilians were killed abroad, 520, 000 of them took their final breath in the Philippine Battlefield. After 60 years, they are continually remembered by the present generation, wishing to take their remains safely home where they will finally be laid to rest. Kuentai, a non-profit organization in Japan, has this in mind.

Yesterday, June 22, 2010, Kazuya Tomita, General Manager - Kuentai Philippines, visited Barangay Mintal, having been given authority by the Philippine National Museum to collect information and actual skeletal remains of Japanese soldiers who were killed in the Second World War.

Barangay Captain Bargamento himself took the responsibility of giving him a tour of the Japanese Monumental Sites and Relics all over Mintal. This proved to be a very enriching and worthwhile encounter as both have shared significant information at each archeological artifacts and historical structures visited.

Both parties will meet again for more discussions, hoping to involve more people in their quest to discover more of Japanese History in Mintal. Possible Japanese skeletal remains will be investigated on their next visit.

A picture made available on 23 November 2009 show Japanese and Filipino nationals burn the bones of Japanese soldiers in Banaue, Ifugao, north of Manila, Philippines, 22 November 2009. More than 4,000 bones of WWII Japanese soldiers who perished during the World War II were collected by members of the Japanese Kuentai-NGO from all over the Philippines and were burned before the ashes will be brought to Japan for decent burial.

We have the triumphant Victory March of the victorious Imperial Army through the devastated streets of Nanking looked upon by the few living relatives of those killed by the thousands, todays equivalent would like the British Army doing a victory parade in the streets of Derry accompanied by the Orange order to celebrate the Derry massacre.

If you look at the Nanking massacre information on the internet you will be taken aback by the many entries from the Japan media side which do not recognise any undue killings over and above military operational casualties , In fact the whole period in Japan is only referred as the Nanking INCIDENT.

Bai david, every day sa kalibotan, naay rape, naay gi patay, naay gi abduct. Tanan ba nga ning himog og sala ay pari? Dili. Ibig sabihin nako, di ta mag generalize og di ta mag point sa fingers nga tanan ang mga pari guilty sa sexual molestation charges. Naay uban nga guilty, daghang jamo dili guilty.

The way media works is that negative news (such as the news of priests/ pastors guilty of sexual molestation) attract attention and make headlines. People react quickly to negative , and accusatory news compared to positive news. News Media knows that readers react to negative news reports and this translates into mucho $$$$. So. Will they print boring (positive) news? or will they print the ones that will turn heads ? If you guessed the latter, then you're correct.

Bai david, there are over 1.2 billion Roman Catholics in the world. There are millions of Catholic Priests around the world who administer the different parishes.
