Product Reviews / Re: Bo's Cafe in Tagbilaran
June 17, 2007, 07:35:22 AM
Good place to view the world pass you by...
But their plain brewed coffee is too soft for me... it needs some more kick to meet my expectations.
Manned by a good crew.

From the owners' point of view:

location is great because it is already established as a commercial center of the area with the presence of the cogon market and terminal years before. The more crowd, the merrier; the more chance that those who come in will purchase the items on sale.

From the customer's point of view:

location is convenient, easily acessible; presence of crowd somewhat gives assurance that the stocks are new due to fast turn-over, although over crowding (especially during fiesta season) gives a bit of inconvenience.

Comfort room needs improvement... need to have a such in every floor.

Who is this Dandan Bantugan?
What is his reputation?
Is he honest about financial matters?
What is his caliber as city councilor?
Is he a brilliant lawyer?

I think these questions should be answered
first before Bohol councilors would entertain
the thought of voting for him in the PCL
presidency.

Ghost, you're so fast, I can't see you.
Where did you go?

Are you here right beside me?
Are you right in front of me?
Are you behind me?

You are all over the place.
You can't be confined by time
                                          and

Ghost, you are so fast, I couldn't see you

GEC, thanks for noticing. You see, I already told Mike that Chin and I have a lot in common. We enjoy the same gadgets and play the same toys. I yet to give a detailed account on this. Right now, I'm so drowsy I'm afraid what I might say here. Yes, sometimes a wicked woman like me still gets scaredy cat once in a while. Good night.

P.S. You're one of the members in Tubag Bohol I love reading.

I've also asked Vader before what is that in her finger but I'm not sure there was a response.

Very truly yours,

About the topic...

Is the article talking about school beauty queens who became politicians or school beauty queens who won in other beauty contests?

At any rate, maybe its the culture of the school or the development of the mindset of the individual.

Beauty pageants at schools happen all the time usually as part of the foundation day celebration. In some schools, the ladies are just content to join (or coerced to join) in the such contests and those who are crowned do not desire to search for higher glory.

About the taste of the adobong puso, I think I tasted one (or something similar) but it was in a Chinese restaurant. Dihay piraso nga adobong baboy sa sulod. Ang kan-on pilit-pilit (morag gisagulan og pilit bugas [glutinous rice]) nga medyo brown ang color tungod sa adobo sauce.

About the the taste of the vegetarian dinuguan, lami jud sama sa tinood nga dinuguan  :P

Can it be possible to put a metal plate inscribed with this historical bit at the second floor of the provincial capitol? The second floor lobby is filled with pictures of Bohol's past governors. This historical fact would be an interesting additional read.
#1927
While waiting for Mike's reply, I'm reminded of a special kind of dinuguan which my grandma's sister (lola gud gihapon nako) used to prepare when they throw out a party:

Instead of pig's internal organs, they used banana flower (puso sa saging)
Instead of pig's blood, they used tablea.
The usual spices for dinuguan goes into the dish.

Both she and her husband were vegetarians, that's why.

I haven't tasted this dish for more than 15 years since my grandma passed away.

The government and tourism players in Bohol should make a policy--
Some trees are already growing on some of the hills as a natural course of nature.
Should these trees be left alone to grow into maturity and alter the appearance of
the hills (just like what is happening to the hills in Batuan) or
intervene and cut these down to preserve the shape of the hills - but in the process
making a prohibited activity within the protected area.

Let me share my experience about starting an addiction.

Back in the days when there were still no mibile phones, VHF radio transceivers were the "in" thing. I was still in high school then and I, together with my brother and our neighbor would get our parents VHF at night and do a "radio net", just like the legitimate amateur radio league.

We invented callsigns and locations coming from all over the world. Those checking in would reach to about a hundred and yet, actually, there were only 3 of us. We do this almost every night.

Little did we know that the grown ups (the legitimate members of the amateur radio league) were actually monitoring us and enjoying our antics.

Soon they allowed their children to join our nightly activity over the radio and the group grew up into one huge network of teenagers who "kitkit" the nite away, meeting friends even though they just stayed at home. It was good, clean fun without the risk of getting out at night.

And then, the mobile phones came.

But that is another story...

The raging debate right here is the oil exploration off the waters between Bohol and Cebu.

Some questions raised:

1. The extent of damage of the seismic survey, which is done by detonating explosives, in terms of  envirornmental damage and fish catch.
2. Should the owners of "payaos" be paid first before they are removed?
3. Assurance that the LGUs will get their share of the national wealth.

She has crossed over to the other shore in May this year.

She, together with her two other sisters, were the ladies in the song, "Sa Lungsod sa Buenavista (may tulo ka mga dalaga)". Ben Zubiri spent time in Buenavista as a guerilla during World War II.

Have you seen the TV series Alias?

The way they conduct their meetings is very superb!

While not exactly talking about taking over the whole breadth and length of Asia, but planning how to penetrate a tightly guarded fortress halfway across the world, retrieve a highly secured artifact, and get out without being noticed, their meeting took no more than 40 seconds.

That's the kind of meeting I want to be in. Everybody is ready and prepared way before the meeting is called. and yes, there were no arguments.

Waking up early?

That is not a healthy option....

That would mean taking my cold shower at 5am (we don't have a water heater at home)
Cold shower will have a "chilling effect" on my bones
Chilled bones will soon become brittle
Brittled bones cannot do its intended function to support the body

Unless... you will send me a complete set for water heating in my bathroom... NOW THAT IS A HEALTHY OPTION! :D

How To Tips / Re: Slow Down
June 08, 2007, 03:56:23 PM
Walking may not be a healthy option when you are
working in Tagbilaran.

There is not much shade trees so the heat of the sun
           will
                   slow
                              you
                                     down
There is too much exhaust emitted from tricycles
and motor vehicles and they
           will
                    slow
                              you
                                      down
Not all street have proper sidewalks and this
           will
                      slow
                                you
                                         down

You meet too many lovely, smiling people
and this, DEFINITELY,

will
                            slow
                                                            you
                                                                                            down!

Ah... what a beautiful way to be slowing down.

Is it True?
#1974
For the community that practiced this tradition:

They feel no qualm or guilt
It is a justified act
A vindication of long-treasured duty of the past
Which must be preserved and nurtured
For the future.

They would say-

"It's part of our population management program"
"We cannot afford to breed more spoilers of tradition"
"We have little food to eat here... better remove the undesirables."

It's a matter of survival for them as a society... as a nation even.

But for us who live outside the confines of their world...
For us whose standard of decency and human dignity is far far different from them--
We can never truly fathom why they consider such act an honorable thing

What is virtuous to them is savagery to us

Filipino is not Tagalog although it would appear that as of now the first is largely based on the second.
Filipino is still to evolve, or maybe be even already evolving, as a language.
I noticed some Cebuano words are now widely spoken by tagalog-speaking persons, i.e., "bana" (husband) in place for the tagalog's "asawa" which means spouse and gives no distinction whether it referes to the husband or wife. Another is "hinay-hinay".

But let's face it... Sa Pilipinas, mas daghan ang makasulti og Binisaya kay sa Tinagalog pero kadaghanan sa makasulti og Binisaya makasabot/sulti og Tinagalog... and you already know the reason why-- our early education... the popular TV shows...

Maybe their mother never hugged them when they were young.
