Like the recent Mir Space station, it will disintegrate/burn-out upon touching the earth's atmosphere.

However, I am worried of its being classified. Hope it is not one of those military nor spy satellites dubbed as "Starwars program" used during the Reagan administration, which may hold nuclear warheads.

Hahaha, tambaw man jud.

I remembered someting about Tuba-tuba.

For the record, this was a Provincial Science Fair entry of former BAC (Bilar Agricultural College) students: Ms. Macalolot (I forgot her name), Ms. Ofelia Cajes, Mr. Alex Suaybaguio under science teacher Mrs. Carding Garay Pabe.

They extracted oil from tuba-tuba seeds and studied its property. They found it burned clean and concluded a good additive for fuel. That was back in 1982 when I was in high school. Mrs. Pabe is our relative and her group stayed at our house during the 1 week long Science Fair.

I am a fan of Pbase photography site and I found something about Anda Bohol and it is nice. It is a story of a photographer's adventure Matt McCambrige.

However, this site is for pro-photographers and everything in there is copywrited. Hence, it is illegal to post any of their pictures without permission.

Hence, just follow this link and enjoy: http://www.pbase.com/mccambridge/kayak

He uses sci-fi to capture the observer's mind.

By the way, I asume their espresso is as black as the "Black Hole".

Karon pa ko kamatikod ani nga photo of Flying Crane.

Ang ka Bambi Flying Eagle, ug ang imo Flying Crane.

If I'm not mistaken, these are migrating Cranes from Siberia. It is winter in Siberia and cranes will migrate in A arrangement reaching far South as Indonesia.

You captured a rare shot Els.

I have seen here in Saudi Arabia a gray Crane, but forgot to bring my camera. They are the larger family. They are also migratory and their home is in Germany. They migrate during winter to as far as South Africa.

Being one who lives on the pacific northwest coastline let me tell you what it is really hard to clean up ans safe animals who are affected by such accidents as spills.

Iwant to say buyag in hopes that it would never happen or the environment here would never be the same again for the white sandy beach edges that we have now.

Lets not wait until Panglao will suffer the same fate as Guimaras Island back in 2006. No amount of compensation can restore back the white sands of Guimaras. Authorities said that it would take a decade for their white sand to be cleansed through natural forces. Even the toxic chemicals that seep through thier ground affected thier famous mango plantation. Even the US refused to buy thier mangoes in fear of contamination.

Bilib gyud bitaw ko nila.
"Clean as you Work" is what I do in the kitchen too. I got the idea from Rachel Ray by having a big bowl for garbage para hinlo ang agi!
Mao siguro ni secreto sa imong mama Mr.Macks kay if it's clean, easy to concentrate man. And also the finest ingredient is another key. Your mama got them all. Sus maga laway man pod ta mag imagine sa iyang niluto!
And your papa having a green thumb, is also one of his secret. Nagka tugma gyud sila, great pair.
Basta I wish them many many years of good health!

My mother does'nt only cook and work like Rachel Ray, she also talks non-stop like a talk show host.

Kung madugay gani akong mama ug uli gikan nangumpra, mo ingon dayon akong Papa nga "naa na pod tingali gikasungag ug istorya imong mama".

I have seen studies of world climate by studying ice and glaciers in Alaska. Time is trapped inside the glacier. They are boring holes and the deeper they got, the older the time. They noticed significant amounts of carbon dioxide released in the atmosphere during the industrial revolution of Europe (coal age). They also detected high amounts of CO2 estimated during the time of Mt. Pinatubo's eruption.

There is also one study that concludes dust from the Sahara destroys corral reefs in the Carrebean.

You have some sophisticated aparatus there Lorenzo.

Bohol once became an independent nation for a brief time, during the transission of Spanish to American occupation.

It is a very vaiable and legal possibility as discussed by Engr. Jess B. Tirol. I forgot the link but it is somewhere here in Tubag Bohol.

We are at risk here. Our multi million tourism industry is at stake.

What is the use of our elected Provincial Officials. Let the voice of the people be heared through them. Once again, I hate to say that we are not paying them just to sit and drink coffee.

Fugapo ra man diay ning koleraha ni.

I believe it is love and mental excercise. Pero kutob lang sa debate ug sports pod sila nga at the end of the day, tapad lang gihapon sila ug tulog.

There is something unique they have to discover every day, so physically the body tends to become younger to meet the challenge.

But the main reason they stay fit at their age is proper nutrition. They key word is organic. Since our backyard is spaceous, my father grow camote tops or ganas, alugbati, kamonggay and fruits such as mangoes, chickos nga fundarosa (dagko ug tam-is kaayo), lanzones, Cacao nga Javanese ug Cafe nga arabica (humot kaayo).

Also excercise. My father loves to bike and swim. I was thaught to swim at a very young age. As a result, I always cut classes during high school just to have a swim at Tantrade. My mother never do excercise but she is a workaholic. Just last November, she arranged a big party for the Tagbilaran retired teacher's association. If you want to know how she manage, just see the TV series Gordon Ramsey's "Hell's Kitchen". She will do the purchasing of ingredients to the dinner table and she wants it to be perfect, choosing only the finest ingredients and the right preparation. Her motto is "Clean as you Work", so you will never see any mess.

We could buy second hand at hatag price para magamit sa next EB.

Once again, thank you Paul for this pictures.

Appreciate your nice words, Grazie, Lumine, B:), Dabins, Brownman, Willmerit, Els,

They are old, but maintained their health through balanced diet and light exercise. My Father was 40 when they got married and I came 4 years later and my mother was 10 years younger than my father. So if I am now 42, that means, my father is now 86 and my mother 76. Sigbin noticed that we don’t have any maid at their old age. Me and my brother in CA and in Saudi repeatedly told them to hire a helper, but they are boneheads and refused to have one. They preferred dogs and chickens as their companions, so we keep it that way. When we were young, we are trained to do house chores, though we escape to hang around with our barkadas.

Jun, my mother is your co-Carolinian. She was one of the pioneer Boholana scholars of San Carlos, being an athlete. She graduated Education, Major in Home Economics, mao nga maayo mang luto ug manage sa balay. Dili gyud na mo sipyat si Jun mo agi sa balay kada bakasyon niya, just for the nice recipes of my mother.

In our backyard, we planted many trees. Mostly in commemoration to birthdays and anniversaries. The mango was planted a day after my eldest was born, being their first grand daughter. For my 2nd child, they planted Lanzones and for my third, also lanzones. For my wedding, we planted Chickos and mahogany trees in our land in Bilar. My father loves gardening.

The reason I asked SigbinII (Paul) to visit our house is to scan the pictures of the Tabaco Family, the father of Joey, in one of our souvenir album “The Bohol Circle” a Boholano organization in the US. Unfortunately, my mother could not find that book in her pile of old books. So Sgt. Joey, I will search it myself during my vacation this summer. Those pictures were too vivid in my memory as they were well featured as the first batch of Boholanos in the US. That book was given by Gaudioso Ferniz to my father during his visit in California in the 1950s.

Maybe you noticed here some continuity from last Dec EB, through the words I used such as:
“the dog” as in lonely Boy with his dog.
“Relaxing” as in Bambi relaxing
and “3 Lonely Mangoes” as in 3 lonely boys.
This is a sort of refreshing your memories as this is an extension to the Dec EB.

Hopefuly the next Grand EB this summer pohon would be more lively.

Thanks Sgt. Joey. Very informative.

Though I still don't buy the idea of having a PIA; however, one of the positive impact it could give to Bohol is International Trading. A convenient access to export our goods to the world specially perishables like fruits. This must not be a landing alternative alone, but with Customs Office to expedite export/import.

I hope that we are exporting more than we import.

Actually, what happens here in Saudi Arabia is that some desperate workers are willing to shoulder the agency cost including all expenses the company has spent for brining him to Saudi Arabia. This will be paid by the employee vide monthly installment salary deduction. Many will gamble on such condition even for low profile jobs.

Now with $8,000 bond, I am sure many Filipinos are willing to shoulder this bond out of desperation.

I personally don't see any practical reason for building an airport in Panglao. It is like building a runway on top of Mount Everest and there won't be adventure at all. You got my logic? The main essence of tourism is traveling and experience different culture. If I am a tourist I would rather buy a package up to Manila and I will avail transportation locally vide Island hopping until I reach Bohol. Having direct service, i.e. from Korea to Panglao will kill the thrill of travelling.

Maybe this airport is a preparation to serve employees of the oil drilling project which is scheduled by next year and eventually an oil refinery to be built somewhere in Cabilao. - Sad.

Ah the Philippine Eagle. Such a regal species.

This coming summer is my vacation and part of my plan is visiting my in-laws place in Esperanza Agusan Del Sur. It is the home of the last virgin forest in the Phils. and also the nesting place of the Philippine Eagle or Monkey Eating Eagle. I saw one that stands 5 ft. from head to toe. It really could carry a 4 year old child at flight. I mean not an obese one.

I will take some pics this time.

I am curious about Cogtong. According to legend, it was named after the "Cogtong". It is a big animal that lives in the river. It will swallow a big amount of water and it looks like a whale. According to old folks there are 7 cogtongs who once lived in cogtong river. Maybe this is a prehistoric creature.

will be one of the toplist ;)

Actually Blue, we are already in the top list. Actually, they are mentioning Cebu in terms of proximity and office location. Part of this area, reffered to as Cebu includes Panglao as part of the package. I discovered this fact last year and I even posted it in one of the threads here. While I was browsing one famous Europen Travel Magazine, I noticed that there was no Bohol mentioned. However, I was outraged that it mentioned Panglao as an Island of Cebu. Obviously, it was a sabotage made by the Cebu based travel agency who was the sponsor of that magazine page.

I further browsed another travel book and noticed a tour package that suggests the Chocolate Hills as part of Cebu.

I remembered back in the 80s during my high school days. I am frequent in Sitio Ubos near Tantrade pier (Ihawan sa una). One day while cutting classes, I saw an eagle diving for fish and it really did caught a big fish by its claws.

I have seen the National Geographic documentary "Journey of Man". Alaska is the cross-road of mankind to the new world "America". According to studies, Eskimos and American Indians share the same Genetic Marker DNA from their Y chromosomes. They are even closely related to the Japanese. When the first tribe of man tried to cross Alaska to Canada, some of them splited and headed south to Japan.

As per the Philippine Law, nobody owns the shoreline, sea, rivers and lakes. When you buy a land, you own the surface of the land up to the sky. Below it is the property of the Government. If there is gold in your land, it is not yours but the governments. You will be shared a certain percent.

If you have a banka, you may anchor it in front of the BBC without breaking the law and go swimming. It is OK as long as you will not use their facility.

Provincial boundaries are already defined and can not be changed. The question is are the Ouanos paying taxes in Jetafe or Cebu. I doubt if they are paying taxes at all.

Look at this boy. I have a feeling he would become a great leader one day.

As you can see folks, this boy has a protruding forehead like Linen.

I have read an article back in 1987 that in the mausoleum of Linen lays a frozen body of Linen, but the only missing thing is his brain. It was removed and given to the KGB for scientific study. It was sliced in thin sections of 1 mm. After decades of study, the KGB concluded that linen’s brain is the same of an average person. The only significant difference they found is the above average sized frontal lobe. KGB scientist concluded that leadership skills are controlled by this part of the brain.

It is the simple 'lusay' as we call it. Many scientist are studying and trying to propagate this rare sea grass. Though it is very common in Tagbilaran shores from Dauis to KofC to Booy to Mangga.

As explained by Sgt. Joey on aviation point of view, the main purpose is an alternate landing for Mactan. Therefore it should be named "Mactan International Airport II".

Therefore, why has our local officials feel so victorious while the grant is meant for serving the interest of other province.

My question is, who will spend for the enourmous task of maintenance. Is it the Bohol Treasury or the National Government? Obviously, the cost of maintenance would be higher than the economic gain it would generate. If we have to spend for its maintainance, it would be a big zinc hole for Bohol Economy just for the service of Cebu.

The internet helps in somehow reduce global warming by cutting fuel consumption through travel. Instead of travelling to your friend's house, you can virtually make chika-chika from your house at your convenient attire. Dire, puede ka manguyab bisan wala pa ka maligo. So that means cutting the consumption of water. Your computer consumes less electricity than the refrigirator or the TV.

Instead of going out and destroy the environment, you can just stay comfortably in your own house and you will have the same level of happiness.

Kyoto Protocol is an initiative of the United Nations' for countries to sign a commitment to cut their emissions of greenhouse gases between 2008 to 2012. This was rejected by the US.

Yesterday's Weather Advisory in Saudi Arabia:

Please be advised that weather conditions in Eastern Province are predicted to get worse up to the weekend. The weather forecast in Riyadh is as follows:

14 Jan 2008 (Tues)   -4°C (min) to 6°C (max)

15 Jan 2008 (Wed)    -7°C (min) to 8°C (max)

16 Jan 2008 (Thurs)  -8°C (min) to 8°C (max)

17 Jan 2008 (Fri)      5°C (min) to 10°C (max)

Since Khobar (City where I am living)  is in proximate distance to Riyadh, the temperature here would correspond to the temperature in Riyadh.

Our sincerest thanks to you our friends.

Your prayers gave us the strength.

We somehow have accepted the fate considering my wife is 41 and pregnancy at that age is critical. What we found difficult is finding the right words to explain to our kids, specially my middle child Mark, 7 who is anxious to have a brother playmate. When we came home from the hospital today, we can read a big question mark from their faces.

I am not superstitious but reviewing the event, I found a significance of number 13.

- It happened on 13 Jan.
- I went to the Enternet Cafe to upload a big file in booth 13.
- The examination was 1:00 PM, which is 1300 hrs.

I don't believe in ghost, though I believe that we have a soul. Last night a strange thing happened to my cell phone. It made a 'toot' sound and light come flashing. I checked, batteries are full and no miss calls or messages. It happened several times last night in random intervals. I don't know if I should consider that as a goodby message from my unborn child.

Introduce Yourself / My Wife Johde had a miscarriage
January 14, 2008, 01:48:53 PM
Last month, I shared with you brothers and sisters that my wife is bearing our 4th child.

Unfortunately, she had a miscarriage yesterday night 13th of January 2008. The baby you longed to be maninoys/maninays was examined with no heartbeat at 7 weeks and the doctors are forced to do the procedure.

Johde my wife is now at the hospital and recuperating from the anaesthesia. Hope she did not experience anaesthesia awareness.

I am thankful for this wonderful website, to Mike and anticipating your prayers for the quick recovery of Johde.

Today morning, I am thankful to the Creator that I have 3 wonderful kids.

This is very unfortunate.

There is also one incident that a patient wake up in the middle of the operation. The patient could not move, but could feel the sharp pain while the doctor sliced her stomach and she can feel while doctors emptied her intrails.

I think there is a movie made recently based on this incident. I think similar story was also featured in the TV series Grey's Anatomy.

I think Lorenzo could explain this more.

I have a schoolmate nga PADI instructor (scuba diving) sa Panglao. Puede ta magpauban niya. I also know the Gatals in Panglao that they have scuba diving facilities for rent. Ato lang tan-awon, they are also good friends with Jun Ayag. This summer EB pohon.

One of my friends who experienced scuba diving in Pamilacan told me that this Island is an inverted cone shape. Means big on top and tapering to a small area down, a sort of balancing island. There is also an underwater current that brings you around the base of the island without any effort of paddling. While having free ride on the current he managed to take beautiful pictures.

Whale shark migration path should be determined to avoid such accidental collision from happening again. Commercial vessels must be re-routed away from the whale shark or protective sanctuaries.

There should be a clear line dividing eco-tourism and the industrialized world or zoning.

Like in Florida, the endangered Dugongs or "mermaids" as the early settlers call them, are most likely to be killed by recreational speed boats than other factors.

Mike,

They earn more living by watching and safeguarding the whale shark than hunting them kay naa man silay commission ihatag sa WWF ug gi hatagan pod sila ug mga pump boat nga sakyan sa tourist nga gustong mag whale watching.

This lays the largest fish egg which is a feet in length and looks spiral. In that documentary they attached a camera on one of the whale sharks.

Kanang Pamilacan is named after the "Pilac" which is a hand-thrown spear with a long rope used for hunting these whale sharks in the past.

The theory behind bugnaw SE-E manong bugnaw na siya is there is an underground aquifer that is running from the limestone mountains of Anda and exits at the foot of the beach. It is a sort of underground freshwater river and the exit is around 50 meters off-shore. Just like in Caingit Beach nga naay freshwater gikan sa cave nga mo gawas. The only difference is sa Bugnaw SE-E, bugnaw gyud nang mo gawas kay gikan man sa mountains & forests ang source.

They are called offshore freshwater aquifers. I have seen a documentary about this from Nat. Geo. that Japanese researchers are in search of this rare aquifers and collecting water samples. They are studying the composition of these waters as source for bottled mineral water.

Moreover, my aunt (mother's sister) Mrs. Gregoria S. Ancog who is now living with her daughter in California is a former Schools Supervisor in Anda and Candijay (the desciplinarian as they call her). She is captivated by the beauty of Anda that it is always in her agenda to visit Anda everytime she goes for vacation. There she will meet old friends and teachers para mag ngisi-ngisi.

Bamboo holds in its DNA a biological clock that tells it when to bear flower. Some species will flower once every century, some every 40 or 50 years. The amazing thing is that regardless of temperature, location and climate, it will flower when the time comes. Like when flowering of Indian Bamboos occur, all bamboo of same species in London and France Botanical institutes also flowered at the same time.

If one compares the countries under the Spanish rule--i.e.

Yay!

I agree with you Scott. The Spaniards did nothing but made us slaves. Mabuhay si Rizal!

Imagine, for 300 years gamay ra kaayo atong nahibaloan ug Spanish language. The words we inherit out of 300 years rules are only terms and we are not even perfect in grammar.

When the Americans came and stayed for just 30 years, most of the grade 6 pupils could speak perfect English and are eligible for teaching profession.

Moreover, “soccer football” as the world calls it the beautiful game is very famous in Europe including Spain. However, the “Balbahutogs” (as our Spanish teacher Mr. Mirupis Villamor call them), did not even teach us to play soccer. Whereas all countries who were under British, Portuguese & Dutch imperial rule became world cup champions like Brazil, Venezuela, even Korea became 3rd placer, who were once ruled by Dutch.

Also what made us poor is the Don / Donya matapobre concept.

Also as what is mentioned by RV nga padrino ug padrina system, mga god-father system which leads to nepotism and political dynasty.

Also the maniana habit or tomorrow habit, which is procrastination in simple English. Also the siesta habit, kanang ligid-ligid sa banig instead ug i-daro or i-hagbas. Also the impractical utang for fiesta expenses. Fiesta is supposed to be a celebration, a thanks giving for a bountiful harvest for example.

I have seen some of Obama’s speeches. For me, a US presidential race is anything like Hollywood, though the result will eventually/indirectly shape the future of the world including us Filipinos.

It is like looking at the TV series “24”, where the star Jack Bauer is reporting to a Black President. By next season, Jack Bauer will be reporting to a Female president. I guess Hillary Clinton must have bribed the producers of this TV hit series. Also I have followed the TV hit series “Commander in Chief” starred by Gina Davis as the first female president of the US. I also wondered if the Clintons have something to do with this or just a coincidence.

Generally, I like people who struggle for victory like Obama. He is the poorest among the candidates with less than $3 million in personal assets.

Through struggle, one can see the genuineness of intentions

I have also seen a fortune plant bloom, 4 years back in our workplace. It did produce a very fragrant smell, similar to that of the classic Anais Anais by Cacharell, but only at night. I further researched about this plant and I found that it have some sort of sensor for animal or human emotions. It blooms only if it sensed tranquility or happiness in the place. Its scent is used to attract nocturnal mammals specially bats, so their wing flaps will cause pollenation.

However, have anyone witnessed a flowering bamboo? God forbid because once a bamboo will produce a flower, it will be the end of our bamboo industry. They will produce seed and in the process will die out. That seeds will grow, but in few years and there will be massive shortage of bamboo material for a long time.

The most interesting part is this bamboo flowering will happen simultaneously worldwide. The last flowering of the bamboo happened in the 1960’s. Until now, they can not exactly predict the next flowering will occur. In China, it caused the near extinction of the Panda population where bamboo is their main source of food.

Until now, scientists and genetic engineers are baffled and still unable to predict the next flowering of the bamboo. I’ve seen this documentary in the National Geographic.

See this link: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/06/0621_bamboo.html

That’s why plants are very interesting creatures.

Nice hearing you again Sgt. Joey and thanks for adding me into your friendster. Those guys with me at Christmas bon fire photos were all American airmen working in a private company. Their job is to do test flights of F-15s, F-16 Falcon, whatever they name it. They are bragging too much about technical things which are beyond my comprehension. The bottom line is they are like human test dummies. Their wives are filipinas, thats why we are close.

I have seen your post to B:), I also thought of buying WLan card which is cheap in our place, at only $27, pre-paid one month unlimited use, with 100mbps speed which is OK enough just for browsing. I wonder if this can be hooked to a Wi-fi so I can share it with my friends and we share the cost. I am now interested with internet, with its practical applications. Unlike in the 90’s where they have this concept of incorporating internet to a microwave oven or to the refrigerator, which is the silliest idea I’ve ever heard. Even I am not sold to having an internet in the car. It is worst than drunk driving.

We are not too close either with the Sarmientos in Tagbilaran due to their elitist attitude. I may assume Eddie dropped this genealogy project due to this reason.

As I have said, you got the style of Bob Hope and I am very much entertained, more than listening to Frasier or Jerry Seinfield.

Thanks again Sgt. Joey. I guess you are not comfortable with a ‘Sir’ which is commonly used by salesmen these days. Sgt. Joey sounds energetic and would probably make you feel younger.

I am not one of Knights of Rizal, though many of my friends are.

My mother is a collector and seldom throws things. So, you will find a collection of Pan-Am shoulder bags & luggages in our closet including old books (1950s and 60s), which I valued as historical. Wake Island's role as stop-over in the Pacific ended during the advent of Boeng 747 jets which also ended my father's career.

Regarding the 'Bohol Circle Year Book' Photos, I will post a PM to Paul Vistal (a member of Tubag Bohol) who is settled in Bohol and request him to scan it for you. By the way, I believed it was already posted here in Tubag Bohol as this link: http://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=3411.msg18184

I read you mentioned Eddie Israel is your causin. He is still the undesputed city councilor of Tagbilaran. He is an editor and a writer. One of his projects is to write a genealogy of the Sarmiento family being himself as part of this family. My mother was sort of involved being a distant Sarmiento relative to Eddie. I was young then and this book was not materialized, though we have some of the original manuscript. Probably making it these days would be much easier with internet accessibility. However, I believe it would still be a great task being the first Sarmiento is a womanizer with four wives.
