In general, netizens just chided Estrada for his hour-long privilege speech,

“Bombshell??? Liar,” tweeted former Miss International @aupijuan.

‘Victim bigger lie’

“To be called ‘sexy’ is a lie. To say, I am a VICTIM, is a bigger lie,” Aurora Pijuan added.

“Sen. #jinggoy’s speech went for almost an hour when in fact, it can be said in just one sentence “ba’t ako lang, eh sila din nakinabang,” said netizen ? @nixiroll.

“Gusto na lang yata maging whistle-blower. Para daw gumanda-ganda image nya. lol,” netizen koai posted on the Inquirer.net website.

“Two wrongs do not make it right. Others may be guilty of pdaf scam, but that does not acquit you from your involvement in the crime,” Nihil also posted on the Inquirer.net website

“Debate on #porkscam after Sen #jinggoy privilege speech: flawed system or greedy hands?” Dr. Eric Tayag tweeted using his name @erictayagSays.

One netizen even asked Cuneta if Estrada was her “kumpare.”

“Yon na nga. Nakakagulat lang,” Cuneta tweeted back.

‘Huh??’

Sen. Pia Cayetano (@piacayetano) expressed surprise at Estrada’s statement that senators who voted for the conviction of then Chief Justice Renato Corona in May 2012 were rewarded with an additional P50 million in PDAF.

“Huh?? I voted yes to allâ€"RH, sin tax and conviction of CJ Corona. I never got addl PDAF. So easy to check records,” Cayetano said.

“Hindi kami magnanakaw. Hindi kami tulad ng iba na kaya ipakain sa mga anak namin ang perang di amin o di namin pinaghirapan,” Cuneta added.

Cuneta’s dare registered 268 retweets by 6:45 p.m. Bacoor Rep. Lani M. Mercado was also tagged in some of the retweets.

Mercado is married to Sen. Bong Revilla, who is also linked to the P10-billion pork barrel scam.

By some happy coincidence, Mercado, Revilla, Estrada and Cuneta are members of the movie and entertainment industry.

Sharon Cuneta’s mega-defense: Prove it, I’ll give P10M, leave Kiko

Philippine Daily Inquirer
Thursday, September 26th, 2013

Hell hath no fury like a “megastar” rising in defense of her senator-husband.

Soon after Sen. Jinggoy Estrada named former Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan as among the senators who misused their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), the latter’s wife, Sharon Cuneta, responded with a dare on her Twitter account.

“If anyone reading this can prove to me that my husband has stolen any amount from his PDAF in his 12 years as senator, I will give you P10 million in cash and I will leave my husband. That is how confident I am,” she tweeted.

Mr. Awoonor published novels and books of verse, including poems like “Songs of Sorrow” that were required reading for several generations of Ghanaian schoolchildren. He was his country’s ambassador to the United Nations in the early 1990s, taught at universities in the United States and Ghana, knew W. E. B. DuBois, and was president of Ghana’s Council of State, a governmental advisory body. News reports in Ghana said he had been invited to a conference in Nairobi and had gone to the mall to have breakfast with his son, who was wounded in the attack.

Ghanaians Mourn a Poet and Scholar Killed in Nairobi Mall Attack

Kofi Awoonor

The rain has beaten me
And the sharp stumps cut as keen as knives
I shall go beyond and rest,
I have no kin and no brother,
Death has made war upon our house

DAKAR, Senegal â€" Ghanaian schoolchildren memorized those lines from the 1960s by one of their country’s most famous poets, Kofi Awoonor; their sorrow over the newly liberated continent’s travails foreshadowed, in a terrible way, the violence that took Mr. Awoonor’s life on Saturday.

Mr. Awoonor â€" poet, diplomat, statesman, scholar and cultural icon in his native Ghana â€" was killed in the terrorist attack by Somali militants on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi. His death at 78 has shocked citizens in Ghana, the West African nation whose difficult beginnings and subsequent steadying he accompanied and chronicled.

Lacson said he openly declined to accept the offer during the caucus, which was called after Corona, was impeached.

“… I need not decline because Drilon and the others knew I would not avail. But I remember declining openly in that caucus,” he said, referring to Senate President Franklin Drilon.

He said it was Drilon, then chairman of the Senate finance committee, who announced about the additional P50 million during the caucus.

“May nagbiro pa nga kung pwede kanya na lang,” Lacson added.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/
#18526
Lacson was among the 20 senators who voted to convict Corona in May 2012.

Asked if he was aware of a “confidential” letter about the additional P50 million that Estrada showed to the Senate in his privilege speech on the floor, Lacson said:

“No, but I confirm the P50 million additional.”

Asked if he knew who were the senators who supposedly accepted the additional amount, the former senator said: I don’t know who received and who didn’t. But I remember the announcement in one caucus.”

Lacson confirms P50-M ‘incentive’ to senators who convicted Corona

Former senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson INQUIRER FILE PHOTO

MANILA, Philippines â€" Former Senator Panfilo Lacson confirmed the P50-million “incentive” that was allegedly given to senators who voted to convict then Chief Justice Renato Corona.

“Senators who convicted Corona got P50 million, says Estrada…Not me,” Lacson told INQUIRER.net on Wednesday.

“I had no regular PDAF (priority development assistance fund). I didn’t partake of any extra fund in whatever form and for whatever purpose,” he said.
#18528
“I maintain however, Mr. President that I stand by my decision in my vote to convict the former Chief Justice and assure our people that I was never influenced by this incentive which came after the fact,” he pointed out.

Estrada then urged Abad to disclose all “additional”  “rewards” and “bribes” being given to legislators.

He said Abad’s office’s silence on the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund issue was “puzzling.”

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/
#18529
“Saan galing ang pinamigay na pondo? I am sure alam ni [Budget] Secretary [Florencio] Abad ang sagot sa tanong na ito. At sigurado din ako na hindi unilateral decision ni Senate President Drilon ang pamimigay ng P50 million kada senador,” Estrada added.

(Where was the fund sourced? I am sure Secretary Florencio Abad knows the answer to this. And I am very sure that this was not a unilateral decision of Senate President Drilon.)

Estrada, who was among the 20 senators who voted to convict Corona, did not say whether he accepted the amount.

Senators who convicted Corona got P50-M ‘incentive,’ says Estrada

Former Chief Justice Renato Corona. SENATE POOL

MANILA, Philippines â€" Senators who voted to convict former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012 were allegedly allotted P50-million “incentive,” Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada said on Wednesday.

“After the conviction of the former Chief Justice, those who voted to convict Renato Corona were allotted an additional P50 million as provided in a private and confidential letter memorandum of the then chairman of the Senate finance committee,” Estrada said in a privilege speech.

The head of the finance committee then was Senator Franklin Drilon, now the incumbent Senate president.
#18531
The P6million, Estrada said, could buy about 2,000 hamburgers.

In the case of Noel, Estrada said  the former partylist representative  poured in millions  of his PDAF into  Gonzales’ district.

He said the COA report showed that P23 million of Noel’s  PDAF did not comply with the procurement law and  P19.6 million worth of  transactions with suppliers had “questionable existence.”

Read more: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/
#18532
“In other words, his office is the implementor of his PDAF. That’s why he’s pushing for PDAF to stay,” said Estrada.

The COA report, however, showed that 28 suppliers in Mandaluyong City denied having undertaken the projects which supposedly received the funds worth P28.74 million.

Estrada said the COA report also disclosed that Gonzales allegedly spent P6 million to buy meals from Jollibee, a popular food chain.

“What’s this? P6 million worth of hamburger? Chicken joy and jolly hotdog? Why, this is really delicious,” said the senator.
#18533
But Estrada, who was charged with plunder for the alleged misuse of PDAF, wondered why the names of the four incumbent and former senators were not mentioned in the news.

“Bakit hindi nababanggit ang mga ito? Dahil ba sila ay kaalyado nila [Why are these things not being mentioned?  Is it because they are allies?]” asked Estrada.

“Pero hindi ko po sinasabi na sila ay nagkasala [But I’m not saying that they’re guilty],” he said, adding that this was only based on the COA report.

In blasting Gonzales, Estrada said the Mandaluyong lawmaker accumulated at least P440 million PDAF in six years in office but based on COA reports, most of the funds went to the congressman’s district.
#18534
Witnesses at the Senate hearing on the pork barrel scam identified Estrada and two other senators who had allegedly funnelled their priority development assistance fund (PDAF) to questionable non-government organizations (NGOs).

Citing a COA report, Estrada said at least four incumbent  and former senators have allegedly used their  pork barrel funds  without complying  with the procurement law.

Estrada said Cayetano, Santiago, Pangilinan and Villar were among the legislators who contributed to the total of P1.2 billion worth of transactions with the local government units (LGUs).
#18535
“Si Rep. Gonzales, may ghost projects at P275-million cash advances na walang kaukulang pinaglalaanan, ayon sa COA,” Estrada said. “Maayos bang nagagamit ang kanyang PDAF? Mukhang hindi ayon sa COA report.”

(Rep. Gonzales had ghost projects and made P275-million cash advances for non-existent projects.)

Estrada also claimed that the pork barrel funds of Senators Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Peter Cayetano, former senators Francis Pangilinan and Manny Villar and former An Waray Representative Florencio “Bem” Noel were plagued by anomalies.

MANILA, Philippines â€" Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada on Wednesday blasted the Commission on Audit, the media, and fellow lawmakers for turning a blind eye to the alleged misuse of the pork barrel allotments of other lawmakers but failed to clear his name in the raging controversy.

In a privilege speech, Estrada resorted to mudslinging and singled out Mandaluyong Representative Neptali Gonzales III, a staunch ally of the Aquino administration, for allegedly using the pork barrel funds for ghost projects that the Commission on Audit did not expose.

she's had her SSS since way back, but then she stopped as she got tired of going to the SSS to pay her monthly contributions in an endless queue.  (there was no easy payment outlets yet that time she stopped contributing.)

my problem now is that with this law, we're supposed to go back all the way to 1984 in terms of back payments.  if we didn't, she would miss her pension.  whew!  that's no mean amount.  i don't think i could afford the total SSS payables including interests accruing her.  and i don't think i'm the only one worrying over this.  her philhealth and pag-ibig membership i believe would be affordable if we started her membership now.

i'll study this some more.  i really want her to have all that's due her.  she's like a sister to us.

p.s. her pay is more than double that of what is required by law, and usually she gets 5k on her birthday and 10k on christmas.

i've been studying this.  our household help has been with us since 1984.  we sent her to school, from high school to college.  i'm proud that she's a college degree holder (education, major in pre-school) though she never bothered to look for a job and showed disinterest no matter how we prodded her.  my terms: she leaves us only for two reasons, she holds a professional job somewhere else, or she gets married.  none of the two happened.

‘Habagat’ death toll in Zambales, Bataan rises to 30

By Robert Gonzaga
Inquirer Central Luzon
September 24th, 2013

SUBIC, Zambalesâ€"The death toll from landslides and floods induced by the “habagat” (southwest monsoon) in the provinces of Zambales and Bataan rose to 30 on Tuesday as rescue workers continued digging up bodies buried by mud and debris in the towns of Subic, Castillejos and San Marcelino in Zambales.

Zambales Rep. Jeffrey Khonghun said areas in his district, from Olongapo to San Marcelino town, suffered the most as heavy rains from Sunday to Monday triggered landslides and floods.

Khonghun said 18 people died in separate landslides in the boundary of the villages of Wawandue and Cawag and in Barangay (village) San Isidro in Subic while four others died in another landslide in the village of Aglao in San Marcelino town.

goodness me.  this article leaves a bad taste in the mouth.  maybe we should learn from this:

Time magazine distills Francis interview into four themes. First: The church must have a pastor’s heart. Second: Faith demands putting people over issues, not the other way around. Third: Stop constricting Christ’s message to abortion, gays and contraception. The Gospel’s message is not to be “reduced to some aspects that, although relevant on their own, do not show the heart of Christ’s message.” Fourth: “We must work harder to develop a profound theology of women.” (from Nitpicking Rules by Juan Mercado, Cebu Daily News, Tuesday, September 24th, 2013)

not necessarily.  ang tawag ani sa amo, RANCHO BUWAD.  no need for a horse here.

He added his three red flags that seem to trigger cancer:

• Overconsumption of refined sugar and white flour, which stimulate inflammation and cell growth through insulin and IGF (insulin-like growth factor);

• Overconsumption of omega-6s in margarine, vegetable oils (including trans fats) and animal fats (meat, dairy products, eggs) stemming from farming methods that have been out of balance since the  World War II; and

• Exposure to chemical contaminants that have entered the environment since 1940, which accumulate in animal fats, andâ€"though studies are not yet definitiveâ€"exposure to the electromagnetic fields of cell phones.

Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD, author of “Anticancer (A New Way of Life),” listed his anti-cancer diet composed of cruciform vegetables (brussels sprouts, bok choy, etc.) and legumes accompanied by olives and olive oil, green tea, turmeric and curry (the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory substance identified today), ginger, garlic, onions, leeks, shallots and chives.

5. Color your plate. “Fresh vegetables and fruits are full of antioxidants that fight all the carcinogens we encounter every day. These are also high in fiber, which can help prevent chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. There is also some evidence that high-fiber diets decrease chances of cancer,” says Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, a former health secretary.

4. Minimize artificial light. Epstein also listed reports in the American Journal of Epidemilogy, the American Journal of Public Healtth, and elsewhere suggesting that exposure to near-constant bright artificial light at night (LAN) may increase risk of breast cancer by inhibiting the pineal gland’s secretion of melatonin, a hormone that, in turn, inhibits estrogen production.
#18582
3. Diets high in animal fat contaminated with undisclosed carcinogens and estrogenic chemicals must also be avoided. As such, with the sources of animal food products always in doubt, it may be best to eliminate beef, pork, veal, poultry, lamb and other cuts of meat from the daily diet. Epstein’s book also cited hormones in beef could have serious estrogenic and carcinogenic effects. Pork, veal lamb, poultry and other cuts of meat, although uncontaminated by sex hormones, contain pesticides and a wide range of veterinary drugs.
#18583
2. Lessen environmental risks, such as exposure  to household chemicals in the home and workplace, or pollution from nearby chemical plants and hazardous waste sites. Workplace exposure to a wide range of carcinogens are two of the 12 common risks for breast cancer, as cited in the “The Breast Cancer Prevention Program” by Samuel S. Epstein, MD, and David Steinman and Suzanne LeVert.

1. Eliminate dairy, meat products from your diet. “Undoubtedly, the best anti-cancer diet would be to go completely vegan (no meat, poultry or dairy products),” says British scientist and cancer survivor Jane A. Plant, PhD, in her book “The No-Dairy Breast Cancer Prevention Program.”

“I was living on a completely vegan diet at the time my cancer disappeared, and for about eight months afterward. If you can become a vegan, you must ensure that you don’t become deficient in essential nutrients, nor confuse being vegan with becoming vegetarian,” she adds.

Experts list their five breast cancer ‘dodgers’

By Tessa R. Salazar

October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But it’s hardly any reason to celebrate. The fact that this cancer has earned its own “awareness month” worldwide is reason enough for everyone, including the healthy ones, to pay closer attention to a disease that, according to the World Health Organization, killed 458,503 people worldwide in 2008 alone.

The public can help minimize their risk of contracting cancer by following these five cancer “dodgers” from medical experts:
