Looking at these pictures, i cannot help but cry. The feelings of longing consumes me. The sound of my lolo's voice when he laughs when we make jokes, to his very iconic proverbial sayings. I want to go back home to Valencia to visit him again. Mingaw na ko nimo, Lolo. I'm so sorry i could not attend your 85th birthday...pero i was there in spirit.

I didn't mind NAIA when I passed through it for the first time in 2010. My mind was too busy being happy at actually being back to my Homeland. When I arrived in Manila on July 14, 2010 (Philippine Time), I was too busy being happy. Manila had changed. The Manila that I remembered in 1998 was not the Manila that I saw in 2010. It got bigger. lol.

Tagbilaran Airport was overcrowded tho. It really needs to expand.

When I arrived in Bohol tho, wow, it was like going back in time. Bohol is Home. Nothing beats Home Sweet Home. And when I drove back to Valencia, Bohol that same day, oh man...It was like my heart and soul was at peace. Naka balik intawn ang Valencianhon sa iyang yuta na tawhan...

Fifth Day

"Today bring to Me the Souls of those who have separated themselves from My Church*,

and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion."

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

*Our Lord's original words here were "heretics and schismatics," since He spoke to Saint Faustina within the context of her times. As of the Second Vatican Council, Church authorities have seen fit not to use those designations in accordance with the explanation given in the Council's Decree on Ecumenism (n.3). Every pope since the Council has reaffirmed that usage. Saint Faustina herself, her heart always in harmony with the mind of the Church, most certainly would have agreed. When at one time, because of the decisions of her superiors and father confessor, she was not able to execute Our Lord's inspirations and orders, she declared: "I will follow Your will insofar as You will permit me to do so through Your representative. O my Jesus " I give priority to the voice of the Church over the voice with which You speak to me" (497). The Lord confirmed her action and praised her for it.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Third Day

"Today bring to Me all Devout and Faithful Souls,

and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. These souls brought me consolation on the Way of the Cross. They were a drop of consolation in the midst of an ocean of bitterness."

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your graces in great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from It. We beg this grace of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your Heart burns so fiercely.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for endless ages. Amen.

Question and Answer / To see or not to see?
November 08, 2011, 03:49:29 PM
Mga higala,

When I went to watch a scary movie in Bohol's ICM last  year, I noticed that one older Filipino couple sitting in front of me did something quite hilarious. The husband, who was frightened by one act, covered his eyes with his two hands. However, he immediately extended his fingers in such a way that he could see what was going on despite having his hands over his eyes.

At this moment I thought to myself, "what's the point of that guy covering his eyes ?".

Ning katawa lang ko kai interesting kaayo. I further laughed when his wife tried to force his hands off his face and he said, "ayaw lagi! ayaw ko hilabti, mi!"

bwahahahaha  ;D
#18437
Mga higala,

I notice that in the Philippines, if an actor and actress is showing too much skin, too much contact, the people describe such a film as "Bold". Hahaha. Ka hinomdom ko sa una that my yaya would refer to these films as "bold films".

Is this word still used in the present to describe sensual films?

Salamat!

"Today bring to Me the Souls of Priests and Religious,

and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind."

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service,* that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard -- upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Good Morning and Peace be with all in the Name of Jesus Christ who is Our Lord and Savior,

I pray that everyone will have a good day, good evening, through the mercies and graces of God who is in Heaven. I woke up this morning at 3:30 am in an attempt to start the day early. Placing my focus today on reviewing digestive system pathologies before going to work this morning. While reading, I kept on thinking about the life and death of Brother Luc Douchier, a martyred trappist monk in Algeria. He was killed in 1996. I was not taken on his death, but, rather on the life that he lived. A life given in the pursuit of living the life as Christ did; in simplicity, selflessness, and in eternal hope...

I wish for all of us to have a good day. I ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

You are not a GOD who delights in evil;

They are still  not at peace, considering the gravity and the manner of their death. Luoy pod.

My step-great grandmother experienced this before. My step great-grandmother, who is the 2nd wife of my great-grandfather, Mr. Teodolo Ebuenga Sr, was married before marrying my great-grandfather. Her first husband did business trips in Muslim Mindanao. During a disagreement with the muslims, they accused him of not paying them enough. They beheaded him and cut him into pieces literally. The police came days later and did not find the rest of his body except for his torso.

Weeks later, my step great grandmother was visited by her dead husband. This was  in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte. There was howling and loud moaning outside of her house, so loud that even the neighbors and the local priest could hear it outside. People could see that there was a dark figure outside moaning. It was a figure , but there was no shape to the face, misty-like.

It was obvious that it was the soul of her late husband. They gave a novena for him that week, and by the end of the novena, the haunting subsided. He was not at peace...the novena gave him peace.

Luoy pod tong mga tawo nga gi patay sa mga Ampatuan Clan, wala jamo gayod to sila (ang mga Ampatuan) sa concept and principle of mercy and honesty. Even now they still try to deny what they did. Gi lubong pa gayod nila ang lawas sa mga innocenteng tawo nga gi patay. Mao na na gabaan ni sila, gi dautan sila sa mga espirito sa mga tawo gi patay nila.

I am sure that many of the victims who were killed are still not at peace. Considering the manner in which they were killed....absolutely brutal...

Brother Luc Dochier. Prior to becoming a trappist monk, was a physician. He was martyred in Algeria in 1996 with 6 other Trappist Cisterian Monks by Islamic Terrorists. Weeks prior to his death, he selflessly treated wounded terrorists who stormed inside the monastery asking for medical help. This was the same terrorist group that would later kill him and 6 other innocent monks.

November 07, 2011, 09:28:33 AM

O most Sacred, most loving Heart of Jesus, Thou art concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and Thou beatest for us still. Now as then Thou sayest, Desiderio desideraviâ€""With desire I have desired." I worship Thee then with all my best love and awe, with my fervent affection, with my most subdued, most resolved will. O my God, when Thou dost condescend to allow me to receive Thee, to eat and drink Thee, and Thou for a while dost take up Thy abode within me, O make my heart beat with Thy Heart. Purify it of all that is earthly, all that is proud and sensual, all that is hard and cruel, of all perversity, of all disorder, of all deadness. So fill it with Thee that neither the events of the day nor the circumstances of the time may have power to ruffle it, but that in Thy love and Thy fear it may have peace.

Amen.

So our Mass goes back, without essential change, to the age when it first developed out of the oldest liturgy of all. It is still redolent of that liturgy, of the days when Cæsar ruled the world and thought he could stamp out the faith of Christ, when our fathers met together before dawn and sang a hymn to Christ as to a God. The final result of our enquiry is that, in spite of unsolved problems, in spite of later changes, there is not in Christendom another rite so venerable as ours.

~Fortescue

In my honest opinion, 1st Corinthians Chapter 13 defines "Love" very well:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

This is true. One cannot serve God and the greed of money at the same time. Ingon si Jesucristo , "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven." (Mathew 19:24).

Naa uban tawo mo ingon, "Ngano man lisod mo adto ang mga dato sa langit?"

Ang rason ani kai daghang mga tawo nga datu that trust in their own wealth and not in God. This was illustrated in Jesus' parable of the rich fool. Jesus' point in the parable of the Rich Fool was that we , as people of God, should build up treasures in faith and what is important to God and not on physical treasures of this world. (Refer to Luke Chapter 12). Dependence and faith on one's wealth and overabundance cannot save us. It is only through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said to all of us, ""I AM the way and the truth and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father except through me....." (John 14:6)

When I read about these brave, true, and compassionate monks, I could not help but cry. Several days before they were kidnapped and systematically killed by the islamic fundamentalists, they treated some wounded muslim terrorists who asked for medical help. One of the monks was a doctor who then went on to become a trappist monk.

Wow. What amazing faith and what beautiful compassion! Yet they were not even afraid to die. What made me cry was when the authorities asked them to move out, one of the monks said in return, "the servant is not higher than the master (referring to Jesus Christ)" They were called to be 'brothers' to all , especially in Algeria.

The stories of the lives of the martyrs often fit into this category, of men and women who over the centuries have written the story of Christ in their blood. Most of us grew up hearing the stories of the early Church and the 'Christians being fed to the lions' - it is well documented even by pagan historians like Tacitus in the early second century. The persecution of the Church in Elizabethan times, during the French revolution and of course during our own Penal times are also well recorded. But many martyrs have died for the faith in the last century.

This month I want to remind ourselves of the silent witness of the Trappist (Cistercian) martyrs of Algeria who died in 1996. Christians will recognise the beauty and values of the Islam faith but will also know that some people within that worldwide creed have distorted its principles and warped its ideals. Such a contrast to the suicide bomber is the one who gives his life for the sake of the other.

'If it were ever to happen ... that I should be the victim of the terrorism that seems to be engulfing all the foreigners now living in Algeria, I would like my community, my church, my family to remember that my life was given to God and to this country.'

Fr. Christian de Chergé, prior of a Trappist monastery in Algeria, began a letter with these words and sealed the envelope with these: 'to be opened in the event of my death.' The letter was indeed opened three years later, after Christian and his fellow Trappists - seven men in all - had been killed by fundamentalist rebels in 1996. However, unlike other Christian martyrs these Trappists did not offer their lives for the conversion of their Muslim neighbours, but as a witness to the One God of all and for the cause of friendship among all God's people. For Fr. Christian at least it was the repayment of an ancient debt.

In 1958 when he was a young man of 21 he had served as a soldier fighting Algerian rebels in the brutal war of independence. One day, his party were ambushed and his life was saved by a friend who happened to be a devout Muslim. This man shielded him with his own body. This man's sacrifice, which Christian believed was prompted by religious faith, brought about his own conversion and eventually ordination to the priesthood and ultimately to the Trappist contemplative order.

Christian studied in Rome, and then asked to be assigned to a monastery dedicated to Our Lady in the Atlas Mountains near Algiers. Many French religious had fled the country in the wake of the war, but at the urging of the archbishop the Trappists had stayed on to offer a contemplative Christian presence among their Muslim neighbours.

The monks lived a traditional Trappist life of prayer and work, but they made a point of offering a place where Christians and Muslims could pray and talk together. A building in the monastery enclosure was offered for use as a mosque and so the 'sound of chapel bells mixed with the Muslim call to prayer.' This group was called 'Ribat el Salam' or the 'bond of peace'.

To many of their neighbours they were trusted and respected. But to others, the Trappists were foreign 'infidels' - as one dispatch put it 'they live with the people and draw them away from the divine path, inciting them to follow the Gospel.'

By 1993 the country was on the verge of anarchy and an ultimatum was given to all foreigners to leave the country, but the monks decided to stay. They also declined any military protection which was offered. It was at this time that Fr. de Chergé wrote his last testament. The months progressed and several priests and women religious were killed. Still the monks remained.

'For us it is a journey of faith into the future and of sharing the present with our neighbours who have always been very closely bound to us. Now all that is left for us is to give our blood to follow Christ to the end.' That end came in 1996 on 21 May when rebels invaded the monastery compound and seized the monks and marched them into the mountains. A few weeks later a note was sent: 'We have slit the throats of the seven monks. Glory to God!' The heads were discovered the next day and they were buried in the small cemetery at the monastery.

De Chergé's family remembered his letter and opened it and discovered his prayer of forgiveness for his murderers: 'For me Islam and Algeria ... are body and soul.' Indeed, Christian was so concerned that his eventual death might be a stumbling block to the dialogue he had helped to establish: 'I do not see how I could rejoice if this people I love were to be accused indiscriminately of my murder. It would be to pay too dearly for what will, perhaps, be called 'the grace of martyrdom', to owe it to an Algerian, whoever he may be, especially if he says he is acting in fidelity to what he believes to be Islam.'

He offered thanks for all his friends and family. But he reserved his final words for his murderer: 'You too, my last minute friend, you who know not what you do. Yes, for you too I wish this thank you, and this adieu which is of your planning. May we be granted to meet each other again, happy thieves, in paradise, should it please God, the Father of both of us. Amen!

On the night of 26â€"27 March 1996, seven monks from the monastery of Tibhirine in Algeria, belonging to the Roman Catholic Trappist Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (O.C.S.O.), were kidnapped in the Algerian Civil War. They were held for two months, and were found dead on 21 May 1996. The circumstances of their kidnapping and death remain controversial; the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) claims responsibility for both, but the then French military attaché, retired General Francois Buchwalter, reports that they were accidentally killed by the Algerian army in a rescue attempt, and claims have been made that the GIA itself was a cat's paw of Algeria's secret services (DRS).

At about 1:15 AM on 27 March 1996, about twenty armed men came to the monastery of Tibhirine and kidnapped seven monks. Two others, in separate rooms, escaped the kidnappers' notice. After the kidnappers left, the remaining monks attempted to contact the police, but found that the telephone lines had been cut. Because of the curfew in force, they had to wait until morning to drive to the police station in Médéa. On 18 April, the Armed Islamic Group's communique no. 43 demanded the release of Abdelhak Layada as the price of the monks' lives. On 30 April, a tape with the voices of the kidnapped monks, recorded on 20 April, was delivered to the French Embassy. On 23 May, the Armed Islamic Group's communique no. 44 reported that the Armed Islamic Group had killed the monks on 21 May. The Algerian government announced that their heads had been discovered on May 31; their bodies' whereabouts are unknown. Their funeral Mass was celebrated in the Catholic Cathedral of Notre Dame d'Afrique (Our Lady of Africa), Algiers on Sunday, June 2, 1996; they were buried in the cemetery of the monastery at Tibhirine two days later.

All seven monks killed were of French nationality. They were: Dom Christian de Chergé, Brother Luc Dochier, Father Christophe Lebreton, Brother Michel Fleury, Father Bruno Lemarchand, Father Célestin Ringeard, and Brother Paul Favre-Miville.
