I read your column in the link you shared earlier.  Thanks for the insight of what our fellow Filipino mothers in Japan has to deal in regard to the importance of knowing the Japanese language vis a vis their role as mothers. 

I am particulary disturbed in what you said, which I quote:  "I do not know of a Japanese-Filipino child who has progressed beyond high school."  Really? You said that fathers are not expected to be of any help with school assignments. Why is that?  I kind of learn about this too because I have two cousins who are married to Japanese nationals.  I didn't want to say anything but whenever they are on vacation in Tagbilaran, my cousins are doing most of the job with little help from their husbands.  In our term, gakagwatay-gwatay na and yet his husbands are still cool.  Is this just an isolated case or am I making a generalization here?  Is it just a cultural thing? I was thinking Japanese are not yet gender sensitive.  I would rather be wrong.

I was thinking too about that "san", ms. bambi. I think you are right; that's an address or  like that's our "po" in tagalog.  I can't wait to hear from Benelynne or Orchids.

change should start in ourselves first and when people see the difference, they will follow.  dili na always in theory lang ba tapos sukwahi diay ang mga actions.  I find it so disheartening how people can say something and do exactly the opposite.  People in the politics are best example.  I once had fascination to politicians because if we really think about it, they do service to people, sometimes even disregarding their own family and safety for the goodness of the people.  But as age keep adding, I come to realize I was naive - well save to a few who really are "straight" to their service to the people. I guess power and control is possessive.

Two weeks ago I went out with a friend sa Spaghetti Factory.  There was this young couple and a baby boy na medyo ga misbehave.  The young mother kind of hit the hand as in kon sa ato pa gisapda ba lamang.  Daw beh, there were two older ladies in the other table na ning duol ug gi storyahan ang mga parents.  Padayon mi'g kaon sa akong friend while ga chitchat, nalimtan na namo to sila.  Aguy, paglingi namo naa pa man gihapon tong mga ladies sa ilang table ga storya nila.  Mura'g gahatag ug seminar!  Mahadlok pod siguro tong mga parents na i report sila so namati nlang.  Later, hilum na tanan unya ning balik na tong old ladies sa ilang table.  Ga bantay man gihapon tong mga ladies like it's their business ba unya sige pa hatag comments, murag nasuko na jud tong mother.  Nag away na!  Maayo nlang nag request ang young mother na magbalhin sila ug table. 

Dre sa among balay, wala jud kaayo'y mga kabataan kay old neighborhood man ni pero didto sa balay akong tia (ila ka smiffytheninja) daghan kabataang baranggay didto naka attire pa.  Naa manuktuk, magdala ko ug bowl of candies tapos sila ra akong ipakuha.  Magkuha lang tawon isa or diha, ingnan nko get as much as you can!  Pirte daghan candies gud!

Re healthy food: Wala pod nag regulate ana ba na ang mga school canteens, ila na mang gipa change ang mga food to healthy ones.

He only cooks for special occasion.  Mao man jud iyang bisyo to have fine-dining meals.  Dili lang jud basta-basta like sa diners, didto jud sa mga mahalon na restaurants.

Indeed, Dong, life is so good!  No matter what, life is good especially with family and friends.  That I think is the essence of Thanksgiving! We always wish lang na all our whole family can eat also what we have on our table on Thanksgiving day!

We will go to my Aunt's house (smiffytheninja's house) and we also invite family friends.  My sister from LA is coming too and sometimes she brings friends to join us.  My two cousins from the Bay area are also coming so we almost have no leftover for sandwich the next day! hehehe

moderation and down to humility - that's a good statement.  I have seen a lot of people who find it difficult to keep successes, for example, to moderation -some of us must have been one of them in past or at present.  It gives them pleasure to be on top of everything and to reach their goals no matter what it takes.  That's why I was thinking when I read the key words earlier mentioned - obsession, moderation and humility.  It seems possible to mix moderation and humility but hard to imagine being obsessive and being humble.
