How To Tips / Re: How to get more out of small spaces
September 07, 2013, 05:43:35 PM
4. Turn to open shelving. Laying everything out in the open can seem unappealing to those who want everything tucked in and hidden from view, but integrating open storage in your home is an inexpensive way to get things off the floor and out of your main space. Industrial shelving units offer a clean, modern look and come relatively cheap in hardware stores or home depot. The best part about them is they force you to keep things organized and neat at all times.

5. Break up space using your floor. Putting dividers in an already confined space can lessen the minimal space you’re working with. Consider breaking up the separate areas of your studio unit with rugs and carpets instead. Not only do they add character, they introduce fun textures and patterns to a room too.

3. Double up. Not enough can be said about using the same pieces of furniture in a multitude of ways. Have your study desk double as your vanity. Invest in a sofa bed if you’re keen on having guests over frequently. Paint that blank wall in your kitchen with chalkboard paint and have it as your reminder wall for all family announcements and schedules. Do you really need a dining area? Or do you find yourself eating at your breakfast nook all the time anyway? You can probably do away with a redundant area and make better use of it. Being smart about your space means knowing that not every single square inch needs to have a dedicated, individual function.

How To Tips / Re: How to get more out of small spaces

1. Go for optical illusions. Whether this means employing mirrors to visually double the space you’ve got, or using long, floor-sweeping curtains to make your room stretch vertically, know that you can use functional elements to create visual depth. Surrounding yourself with an environment that seems large gives off the same feeling that an actual larger space can offer.

2. Opt for monochrome. Filling up your room with too many colors can create a lot of visual clutter, making a confined space look even smaller than it already is. Consider painting your walls, furniture, and built in shelves in the same shade, mimicking that color family even with your throw pillows and sheets. Not only do you get a clean, neutral and restful look, but everything that fills up your space will visually retreat providing you more room to breathe.

Get more out of small spaces
By Chinggay Labrador, Pretty Does It | Yahoo! SHE â€" Fri, Sep 6, 2013 2:39 PM PHT

Whether you’re living in a 30 square meter apartment or a 300 square meter house, every homeowner can do with more space.

Opening up your home to more space not only works visually, allowing you to virtually breathe more and feel more relaxed; it also gives you more opportunities to store the things you accumulate, and tuck away what you need but don’t want to have lying around, out in the open.

While living in a tight room can seem like you’ve got design restrictions coming in from every which way, there are many decorating tips you can apply to make things work.

The video was initially screened for a relatively small, private audience. But the overwhelming amount of feedback from viewers who felt the interview should be widely publicized came with consequences, as various online networks repeatedly shut it down and affiliates refused to house the content.

Bernanke and Greenspan certainly would not support Wiedemer publicly, and it soon became apparent mainstream media would not either.

“People were sitting up and taking notice, and they begged us to make the interview public so they could easily share it,” said Newsmax Financial Publisher Aaron DeHoog. “But unfortunately, it kept getting pulled.”

“Our real concern,” DeHoog added, “is the effect even if only half of Wiedemer’s predictions come true.

“That’s a scary thought for sure. But we want the average American to be prepared, and that is why we will continue to push this video to as many outlets as we can. We want the word to spread.”
#17916
The interview has become a wake-up call for those unprepared (or unwilling) to acknowledge an ugly truth: The country’s financial “rescue” devised in Washington has failed miserably.

The blame lies squarely on those whose job it was to avoid the exact situation we find ourselves in, including Bernanke and former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan, tasked with preventing financial meltdowns and keeping the nation’s economy strong through monetary and credit policies.

At one point, Wiedemer even calls out Bernanke, saying that his “money from heaven will be the path to hell.”

But it’s not just the grim predictions that are causing the sensation in Wiedemer’s video interview. Rather, it’s his comprehensive blueprint for economic survival that’s really commanding global attention.

The interview offers realistic, step-by-step solutions that the average hard-working American can easily follow.

Where Trump, Faber, and Schiff see rising debt, a falling dollar, and a plunging stock market, investment adviser and author Robert Wiedemer sees much more widespread economic destruction.

In a recent interview to talk about his New York Times best-seller Aftershock, Wiedemer says, “The data is clear, 50 percent unemployment, a 90 percent stock market drop, and 100 percent annual inflation… starting in 2013.”

Before you dismiss Wiedemer’s claims as impossible or unrealistic, consider this: In 2006, Wiedemer and a team of economists accurately predicted the collapse of the U.S. housing market, equity markets, and consumer spending that almost sank the United States. They published their research in the book America’s Bubble Economy.

When the interview host questioned Wiedemer’s latest data, the author unapologetically displayed shocking charts backing up his allegations, and then ended his argument with, “You see, the medicine will become the poison.”
#17918
Trump doesn’t hesitate to point out America’s unhealthy dependence on China. “When you’re not rich, you have to go out and borrow money. We’re borrowing from the Chinese and others.”

It is this massive debt that worries Trump the most.

“We are going up to $16 trillion [in debt] very soon, and it’s going to be a lot higher than that before he gets finished,” Trump says, referring to President Barack Obama. “When you have [debt] in the $21-$22 trillion [range], you are talking about a [credit] downgrade no matter how you cut it.”

In a recent appearance, Trump went to so far as to say the dollar is “going to hell.”
#17919
Faber’s pessimism is matched by well-respected economist and investor Peter Schiff, the CEO of Euro Pacific Capital. Schiff remarks that the stock market collapse we experienced in 2008 “wasn’t the real crash. The real crash is coming.”

Schiff didn’t stop there. Most alarming is his belief that daily life will get dramatically worse for U.S. citizens.

“If we keep doing this policy of stimulus and growing government, it’s just going to get worse for the average American. Our standard of living is going to fall . . . People who are expecting Social Security can’t get all that money. People expecting government pensions can’t get all their money . . . We simply can’t afford to pay them.”

Equally critical of the current government and our nation’s economy is real estate mogul and entrepreneur Donald Trump, who is warning that the United States could soon become a large-scale Spain or Greece, teetering on the edge of financial ruin.

That’s exactly what many well-respected economists, billionaires, and noted authors are telling you to do â€" experts such as Marc Faber, Peter Schiff, Donald Trump, and Robert Wiedemer. According to them, we are on the verge of another recession, and this one will be far worse than what we experienced during the last financial crisis.

Marc Faber, the noted Swiss economist and investor, has voiced his concerns for the U.S. economy numerous times during recent media appearances, stating, “I think somewhere down the line we will have a massive wealth destruction. I would say that well-to-do people may lose up to 50 percent of their total wealth.”

When he was asked what sort of odds he put on a global recession happening, the economist famous for his ominous predictions quickly answered . . . “100 percent.”

Faber points out that this bleak outlook stems directly from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s policy decisions, and the continuous printing of new money, referred to as “quantitative easing” in the media.

During the operation, police recovered a caliber. 45 pistol, cal. 9mm pistol, cal. 38 revolver, and a KG9 pistol.

They also recovered firearm magazines, silencer, several ammunitions, drug paraphernalia and a radio for communication.

Police also recovered from the suspect’s nearby house two large packs of suspected shabu weighing 300 grams worth P3.5 million.

RAIDSOTG deputy chief Henrix Bancoleta said they have been monitoring Secretaria after receiving information that he is one of the druglords in Cebu City.

Police expressed disappointment that local officials in the area did not coordinate with them immediately and that neighbors of the suspects were also uncooperative.

“Natingala gani mi diri kay wa kuno sila makaila sa among subject nga si y*&^%. Pero sa among info, ilado kaayo ni siya dinhi, mahadlok gani ning mga tawo nila dire,” Bancoleta said.

Both Bejasa and Conson denied any involvement in Secretaria’s drug activities. â€" Lesley C. Vestil of Banat News and Niña G. Sumacot/LPM (FREEMAN)

Judge Soliver Peras of the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 issued the search warrant against Secretaria, alias y*&^%, a resident of Barangay Ermita in Cebu City.

Police instead arrested Secretaria’s alleged accomplices Harold Bejasa, alias Rambo, 23, also of barangay Ermita, and Chardilito Conson, 31, of Getafe.

Bejasa, police said, served as Secretaria’s right hand while Conson works as his lookout.  Policemen, onboard three pumpboats and a speedboat, proceeded to Banacon Island past 9 a.m.

The team was led by RAIDSOTG chief Marvin Sanchez and PIB chief Rodulfo Albotra.

The team initially held seven people who were at the vicinity of Secretaria’s hideout while police were searching for him.

Authorities later learned that the suspect had already left the island.

But police continued the search, believing that Secretaria was just hiding in one of the houses in the area, and failed to find him.

CEBU, Philippines - Police seized at least P3.5 million worth of suspected shabu and assorted firearms in a raid Thursday on the hideout of a suspected Cebu druglord on an island in Getafe, Bohol.

Armed with a search warrant, operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (RAIDSOTG) and the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) however failed to arrest Rowen Secretaria.

DIGOS CITY, Philippinesâ€"Police arrested a 28-year-old man here on Friday for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter repeatedly.

Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria, chief of the regional intelligence division of the Southern Mindanao police, said the man was arrested in Sitio San Nicolas in Barangay Tres de Mayo here around 11 a.m. following a complaint lodged by the daughter.

Initial investigation showed the man started raping his daughter on August 26.

The rape was repeated four times more on September 5 alone, the girl told the police’s Women and Child Protection Desk.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Llanera, provincial police director, said the father would rape the child whenever the mother was away.

The suspect remained mum on the allegations and was being held at the police’s holding facility here while authorities awaited a court order on where to send him.

However, I’ve been warned that while these words are excellent candidates for inclusion in the Oxford English Dictionary, they may fail to make it due to future lack of use, depriving us of the honor.

Sir Alexie Conn explained: “IF, with the help of turoant sumbongdinates, an ombudextrous delimanation of pdafhilia is carried out, successfully carpo dieming pdafhiles, janetors and swinedlers thereby preventing further napolestation, then the prospective additions would no longer be included for lack of use.”

Well, in that case, I’m pretty sure Filipinos would much prefer to be at a loss for words.

Vulnerable

At the time of the study, only 10 percent were covered by general labor legislation to the same extent as other workers. More than one quarter were completely excluded from national labor legislation.

“Deplorable working conditions, labor exploitation and human rights abuses are major problems facing domestic workers,” the ILO said.

It said that lack of legal protection increased the domestic workers’ vulnerability and made it difficult for them to seek remedies.

“As a result, they are often paid less than workers in comparable occupations and work longer hours,” it said.

“Today’s entry into force of Convention 189 sends a powerful signal to more than 50 million domestic workers worldwide. I hope that it will also send a signal to ILO member states and that we will soon see more and more countries committing to protect the rights of domestic workers,” said Tomei.

‘Kasambahay’ law

Since the convention’s adoption, several countries have passed new laws and regulations protecting their domestic workers’ labor and social rights, including the Philippines which in June passed the Kasambahay Law.

The Kasambahay Law provides protection and better working conditions for Filipino household service workers.

“All this shows that the momentum sparked by the ILO convention on domestic workers is growing. The convention and recommendation have effectively started to play their roles as catalysts for change. They now serve as a starting point for devising new polices in a growing number of countries, recognizing the dignity and value of domestic work,” said Manuela Tomei, director of the ILO’s Working Conditions and Equality Department, in a statement.

According to an ILO study from January 2013 entitled “Domestic Workers Across the World,” household workers serve in private homes often without clear terms of employment, unregistered and excluded from the scope of labor legislation.

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"The Domestic Workers Conventionâ€"a treaty that provides basic labor rights to an estimated 53 million domestic workers worldwide, including some two million Filipinosâ€"came into force Thursday.

“There are currently at least 53 million domestic workers worldwide, not including child domestic workers, and this number is increasing steadily in developed and developing countries,” according to the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The new convention, which is now a binding international law, needed to be ratified by at least two ILO member states. But to date, eight ILO member statesâ€"the Philippines, Bolivia, Italy, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Paraguay, South Africa and Uruguayâ€" have ratified it.

Above, you’ll see that basic outline of what IQ means and how most of the world stacks up. That mountain in the middle represents where most of us would rank. Let’s put it in perspective by looking at the expected career paths of individuals within specific IQ ranges:

IQ of 87: Unskilled workers (no special training or special skills)
IQ of 92: Semi-skilled workers (truck drivers, factory workers etc)
IQ of 101: Skilled workers (clerical workers, sales professionals, electricians, craftsmen and foremen etc)
IQ of 104: Managers and administrators (received 1-3 years of college education in a specific field)
IQ of 112: Professional or technical workers (estate agents, surveyors, environmental or forensic scientists, educators etc)

Stubbs is now reportedly breathing on his own after relying on a chest tube for a couple of days.

Ms Stec, owner of a general store in the small town, said she planned to file a police report, adding that the dog "needs to go away".

Stubbs was discovered among a box of kittens in 1997, and was named after his lack of tail.

He ascended to power shortly afterwards when the town's 800 inhabitants did not like the candidates in a mayoral election
and encouraged enough people to elect the feline instead.
Although his position is honorary, Stubbs' popularity has grown over the years, earning him national fame and subsequent visits from tourists.

His owner, Lauri Stec, said the cat was heavily sedated because he was in "so much pain" after the attack.

Richard Dameron

A man who threatened to kill police officers in Cleveland in 911 calls has been ordered to wear a sign in public declaring him an idiot.

Richard Dameron, 58, must stand outside a local police station with a yellow sign around his neck for three hours each day this week.

The sign says: "I apologise to Officer Simone & all police officers for being an idiot calling 911 threatening to kill you. I'm sorry and it will never happen again."

Fisherman discovered the horrifying little creature, which is native to South America, in the Danish/Swedish strait of Oresund, CNN reports. The Pacu can grow to 55 pounds, has giant teeth and looks angry, but is usually the more friendly cousin of the piranha. That is, until it sees a testicle.

Experts at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, who were notified of the Pacu sighting, warn: "Anyone choosing to bathe in the Oresund these days had best keep their swimsuits well tied."

Locals in Papua New Guinea say they have firsthand knowledge of a fatal testicle bite. Two fisherman are said to have died of blood loss after a Pacu chomped off their testicles, according to Metro. That said, such attacks are uncommon.

Last year, two Pacus were reportedly spotted in Lake Lou Yaeger in Illinois. Officials think amateur exotic fish collectors are the ones releasing their pets into waters where they don't belong. Anyone caught dumping exotic fish can be criminally charged.

It's unclear how the fish got into Scandinavian waters.

Pacu, Testicle-Biting Fish, Will Target Skinny Dippers, Authorities Warn
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

If you're going swimming in Scandinavia, wear your trunks -- no ifs, ands or nuts.

Authorities are warning skinny dippers about the Pacu, a fish similar to the piranha that really enjoys cracking nuts with its strong jaws. They've also been known to mistake testicles for something nice and crunchy, and they're strong enough to take off a finger.
