Jokes and Humor / Actual call center conversations!
September 27, 2007, 08:30:11 PM
This has to be one of the funniest things in a long time. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This

is a true story from the WordPerfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say the Help Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the WordPerfect organization for "Termination without Cause."

Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee.
(Now I know why they record these conversations!):

Operator: "Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?"
Caller: "Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."
Operator: "What sort of trouble??"
Caller: "Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."
Operator: "Went away?"
Caller: "They disappeared"
Operator: "Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?"
Caller: "Nothing."
Operator: "Nothing??"
Caller: "It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type."
Operator: "Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out??"
Caller: "How do I tell?"
Operator: "Can you see the 'C: prompt' on the screen??"
Caller: "What's a sea-prompt?"
Operator: "Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?"
Caller: "There isn't any cursor; I told you, it won't accept anything I type."
Operator: "Does your monitor have a power indicator??"
Caller: "What's a monitor?"
Operator: "It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when its on ? ?
Caller: "I don't know."
Operator: "Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that??"
Caller: "Yes, I think so."
Operator: "Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall.
Caller: "Yes, it is."
Operator: "When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one??"
Caller: "No."
Operator: "Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."
Caller: "Okay, here it is."
Operator: "Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer."
Caller: "I can't reach."
Operator: "OK. Well, can you see if it is??"
Caller: "No."
Operator: "Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over??"
Caller: "Well, it's not because I don't have the right angle -- it's because it's dark."
Operator: "Dark??"
Caller: "Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window."
Operator: "Well, turn on the office light then."
Caller: "I can't."
Operator: "No? Why not??"
Caller: "Because there's a power failure."
Operator: "A power .... A power failure? Aha. Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff that your computer came in??"
Caller: "Well, yes, I keep them in the closet."
Operator: "Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."
Caller: "Really? Is it that bad?"
Operator: "Yes, I'm afraid it is."
Caller: "Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them??"
Operator: "Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer!!!"

The remote Pitcairn Island in the Pacific Ocean - home of the descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers - has recorded its first birth in 17 years.

Emily Rose Christian was born just before midnight Sunday, September 14, 2003, in the Pitcairn Island Medical Clinic.

Her arrival brings the island's population to nearly 50. The island, which is just one mile wide and two miles long, is administered by Britain from its diplomatic post in New Zealand, about 3,200 miles away.

Baby and mother, Nadine Christian, are both reportedly doing well.

Inspiration & Hope / Power of Acceptance
September 27, 2007, 08:13:41 PM

When the world seems to be falling
down around you, you can choose to fall down with it or you can choose
a more positive path. Acceptance will put you on that positive path.
Fighting against negativity only produces more negativity.
Yet when you accept what is, no matter how terrible and difficult it may
be, you put yourself in a position to start changing it for the better.

Acceptance does not mean giving in or giving up. It means
moving on, as in moving on ahead.

There is simply no point in fighting battles which have
already been lost, nor is there any point in allowing the loss to continue
to slow you down. The smart strategy is to accept it and then put all your
energy toward a positive pursuit.

Acceptance does not mean allowing others to take advantage
of you. It simply means that you look realistically at what has happened
and allow yourself to see the positive opportunities that are most certainly
there.

Once you accept what is, you are free to move positively
forward. Once you quit fighting, you are free to start achieving.

Inspiration & Hope / What are the odds?
September 27, 2007, 05:45:38 PM

The only time probability matters is when you have no influence or control over the situation, such as in the random roll of dice or the spin of a roulette wheel. For everything else, it's not the odds that make the real difference; it's what you actually do.
What are the odds of succeeding in a particular profession given your background? What are the odds contracting a particular disease?

Actually, for things like these the odds are really meaningless. Any specific outcome depends on your individual situation and on what you choose to do about it.

Those who make the commitment to succeed, and do whatever is necessary, will reach success regardless of what the odds might say. Those who depend solely on the odds to keep them in good health, and don't do anything about it themselves, will not have very good health.

Instead of pursuing things that will merely improve your chances of success, go directly toward the success itself. Keep in mind that the specific results you get are based on your own thoughts and actions, not on the statistical averages.

Rather than letting the odds give you a false sense of confidence or a wall of unwarranted fear, focus on the things you can actually control. Take full responsibility for your own outcomes, and you'll end up going precisely where you choose to go.

An affable sanctuary where dreams become reality and a perfect habitat where souls like mine can reach the pedestal of freedom. Consul: Lifetime Multiple Entry Visa, granted! Amo, hinimatay!

Inspiration & Hope / The cure for Procrastination
September 25, 2007, 06:27:59 PM

The only cure for procrastination is action. Go beyond wishing, dreaming, considering, debating the options and get busy making it happen.
Yes, it's going to be a little uncomfortable, it's going to involve effort, it's going to require commitment, and you're going to run into difficult challenges. So ask yourself -- do you intend to make it happen or would you rather put it off again and again so that it never gets done?

What gets done is what gets done now. In a little while, in a couple of weeks, in a few years, when you get around to it -- these "somedays" never do come.

It's helpful to substitute the word "never" for someday, for that will force you to confront the issue. Give yourself the choice between doing it now or doing it never, and you'll be much more likely to do it now, if it's truly important to you.

This moment right now is loaded with great value. You can choose to take action, and make that value your own, or you can choose to do nothing and forever leave this moment's bountiful treasure behind.

Decide to accept the tremendous opportunity that is already available to you. Let go of the excuses, and make this the moment you jump into real, effective, purposeful action.

Ralph Marston

Inspiration & Hope / Just for the fun of it
September 24, 2007, 08:24:07 PM

Children do it, animals in the wild do it, and you can benefit greatly from it too. One of the best ways to learn and to grow, to improve, and to gain useful, practical experience, is to play.
Playing is not merely for those who are young or irresponsible. Playing is for anyone who seeks to have a fresh perspective on life.

Begin to play, and you become free of prior limitations. When there is no goal or specific focus to the effort, there is no telling what wondrous and valuable things you will discover.

When you're playing and there are no serious consequences on the line, you're free to experiment with lots of different approaches. Spend some time in which the outcome doesn't matter, and the outcome will be that you gain valuable new insight.

You perform at your best when you're doing something you enjoy. Increase your play, and you can significantly improve your work.

Remember always to set aside some time, energy and resources for play. Explore and experience life just for the fun of it, and enjoy the serious benefits that come from being playful.

General Topic / Filipino Kids vs. American Kids
September 23, 2007, 08:39:21 PM
American Kids: Move out when they're 18 with the full support of
their parents.
Filipino Kids: Move out when they're 28, may have saved for that
nice house and are a week away from getting married ..unless there's
room in the basement for the newlyweds.

American Kids: When their Mom visits them she brings a nice bundt
cake and you sip coffee and chat.
Filipino Kids: When their Mom visits them she brings 3 days worth
of food, and immediately begins to tidy up, dust & do the laundry.

American Kids: Their dads always call before they come over to
visit them and its usually only on special occasions.
Filipino Kids: Are not at all fazed when their dads come over,
unannounced on a Saturday morning at 8:00 and starts pruning the peach & lemon trees. And if there are none, he will plant some!

American Parents: You can leave your kids with them and you always
worry if everything is going to be ok plus you have to feed them after
you pick them up.
Filipino Parents: No problem, leave your kids there and if they
get out of line your parents can set them straight .... plus they get
bathed ,fed and get told stories of when you were young.

American Kids: Always pay retail and look in the yellow pages when
they need something done.
Filipino Kids: Just call their dad or uncle and ask for another
dad's or uncle's phone number to get it done .... cash deal.

American Kids: Will come over to visit their parents and get only
cake and coffee, no more.
Filipino Kids: Will come over to visit their parents for lunch and
get B-B-Q, Pancit, Lumpia, Adobo and Rice and stay for late dinner as
well.

American Kids: Think that being Filipino is a great thing,
Filipino Kids: Know that being Filipino is a great thing,

American Kids: Never ask the reason you have no food.
Filipino Kids: Are the reason you have no food.

American Kids: Will say 'hello" but are hesitant to hug.
Filipino Kids: Will give you a big hug and a kiss, and great big
hand shake and pat you on the back.

American Kids: Hardly invite over to eat or they have to share
their portion.
Filipino Kids: You always have your friends over to have something
to eat regardless

American Kids: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
Filipino Kids: Call your parents Uncle & Auntie.

American Kids: Have never seen you cry.
Filipino Kids: Cry with you.

American Kids: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
Filipino Kids: Will spend hours there, talking, laughing and just
being together.

American Kids: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
Filipino Kids: Keep your stuff so long they forget it's yours.

American Kids: Know a few things about you.
Filipino Kids: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

American Kids: Will leave their parents behind.
Filipino Kids: Will hang out with their parents.

American Kids: Would knock on your door.
Filipino Kids: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!"

American Kids: Are for a while.
Filipino Kids: Are for life.

Inspiration & Hope / Flowing Abundance
September 23, 2007, 06:53:55 PM

If you expect to receive value without providing value in return, you will be painfully disappointed. Value, by its very nature, cannot flow only in one direction for very long at all.
If you focus only on what you want to acquire, you will experience continuing frustration. Focus instead on all the good and valuable things you have that you can give, and your eyes will be opened to the greatest possibilities.

Abundance is a dynamic thing that's always in motion. Like an electric current, if abundance ceases to move, it ceases to be.

To experience value flowing into your life, then get value flowing out from you. Remind yourself often that it's really as simple as that.

Circumstances will always work against you if you attempt to stop the flow of abundance by seeking to siphon it off just for yourself. Choose instead to support the flow, by giving the same portion of value that you wish to receive, and the abundance in your life will grow strong and vibrant.

There are opportunities in every moment to create real, unique and substantial value. Make the most of those opportunities, and watch the abundance flow.

Inspiration & Hope / A little higher
September 22, 2007, 06:28:29 PM

There will be days so dreadful that you may regret ever getting out of bed, and there will be days so beautiful that you'll wish they would never end. You can make something good and valuable out of all of them.
Some people you meet will make you instantly feel that you've known them for years. Others you meet may make you want to get as far away from them as quickly as you can.

All kinds of people are equally worthy of your kindness, respect and consideration, and have their own valuable gifts to offer. Remind yourself often of that.

There will be stretches of time when you'll feel you can't get anything right, and there will be periods when everything you touch seems to turn to gold. Don't allow either extreme to get the best of you or to compromise your precious integrity.

You'll experience times of boundless joy, and moments of overwhelming frustration. You'll discover places of extraordinary beauty, and regions of terrifying ugliness.

Through it all, remember that whatever you may encounter is virtually insignificant when compared with what you choose to do with it. Always choose the best response, no matter what comes your way, and each day you'll rise a little higher than you were the day before.

Inspiration & Hope / Every little step Counts
September 22, 2007, 06:25:51 PM

A staircase composed of very small steps can reach just as high as a staircase made of large steps, and the climb is much more manageable. Every little step counts.
Doing just a little is infinitely more rewarding than doing nothing. And just a little can quickly lead to just a little more.

Five minutes a day adds up to two and a half hours a month, and thirty hours over the course of a year. If you spend those five minutes each day making minor improvements, they can steadily bring about major accomplishments.

Offer one small gesture of kindness each day and multiply it over the course of a lifetime. You'll find your world filled with rich, rewarding and genuine relationships.

Every little step counts, because the little steps are usually the ones that actually get taken. There's virtually no risk, and yet the rewards, over time, can be enormous.

What one little step would make life better for you this very day? Get in the habit of taking small positive steps, and you'll create big, lasting success.

Jokes and Humor / The Inday Adventures
September 22, 2007, 06:20:05 PM

Inday: I believe that my trained skills and expertise in management with the use of standard tools, and my discipline and experience will contribute significantly to the value of the work that you want, my creativity, productivity and work-efficiency and the high quality of outcomes I can offer will boost the work progress.

     Amo: [nosebleed]

Kinabukasan, habang nasa opisina ang  amo, may tumawag sa telepono.
Inday:  Hi, you are calling in the  midst of me cooking our lunch, my superiors aren't around. I'm the immediate person in support. How may i help you? If you wish to leave a message, an  abrupt tone means your diverted to our voicemail.

     Caller: [Ibinaba ang telepono]

Nakaraan ang dalawang araw, umuwi ang amo, nakitang me bukol si junior.

Amo: Bakit me bukol si junior?

Inday: Compromising safety with useless aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered architectural design of our kitchen lavatory affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at the left temple near the auditory organ.

     Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

     Kinagabihan, habang naghahapunan.

     Amo: Bakit maalat ang ulam?

Inday: The consistency was fine. But you see, it seems that the increased amount of sodium chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically and those actions are irreversible. I do apologize.

     Amo: [nosebleed na naman]

     Tapos, sabi pa...

Amo: Bakit tuwing paguwi ko, nadadatnan kitang nanunuod ng tv?!

Inday: Because I don't want you to see me doing absolutely nothing.

     Amo: [hinimatay]

Kinabukasan, sinamahan ni Inday si junior sa  principal's office dahil di makapunta ang amo at donya.

Principal: Sinuntok ni junior ang kanyang kaklase.

Inday: It's absurd! It was never a fact that he will inflict a fight. I can only imagine how you handle schizophrenic kids on this educational institution. Revise your policies because they suck!

     Principal: [nag resign]

Pag dating sa bahay, nandun na ang amo, galit na galit.

Amo: Inday, bakit nagkalat ang basura sa likod ng bahay?!

Inday: A change in the weather patterns might have occurred wrecking havoc to the surroundings. The way the debris are scattered indicates that the gust of wind was going northeast causing damage to the path it was heading for.

     Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Habang nagluluto si Inday ng hapunan, malikot si junior.

Inday: Stop your raucous behavior. It is bound to result in property damages and if that happens there will be corresponding punishment to be inflicted upon you!

Junior: [takbo sa CR, punasan ang nagdudugong ilong]

Pagkatapos magluto, nanood na ng TV si Inday. Nabalitaan nya umalis si Angel Locsin sa GMA 7.

     Junior: Bakit kaya sya umalis?

Inday: Sometimes, people choose to leave not because of selfish reasons but because they just know that things will get worse if  they'll stay. Leaving can be a tough act, and it's harder when people can't  understand you for doing so.

Junior: [tuloy ang pagdugo ng ilong]

     Dumating ang amo bago maghapunan.

Amo: Day! Bakit may rashes si Junjun?

Inday: Allergens triggered the immune response.  Eosinophillic migratin occurs to the reaction site and release of  chemotactic and anaphylotoxin including histamine and protaglandins. These substance results to increased circulation to the site promoting redness.

     Amo: Sori?

Nung gabing yon, me nag text ke Inday. Si Dodong, ang driver ng kapitbahay, gusto maki pag text-mate.

Inday: To forestall further hopes of acquaintance, my unfathomable statement to the denial of your request - Petition denied.

Di nagla-on, dahil sa tyaga ni Dodong, nagging syota      nya rin si Inday. Pero di tumagal ang kanilang relasyon, at nakipag-break si  Inday ke Dodong.

Inday: The statute restricts me to love you but you have the provocations. The way you smile is the proximate cause why I love you. We have some rules to think of. We have no vested rights to love each other because the upper household dismissed my petition!

Dodong: Perhaps you are mistaken, what you seem to contrive as any affections for you are somewhat half-hearted. I was merely attempting to expand my network of interests by involving you in my daily recreation. Heretofor, you can expect an end to any verbal articulation from myself

Me dumaan na mamang basurero, at narinig ang usapan ni Inday at Dodong.

Basurero (sabi ke Inday): Be careful in letting go of the things you thought are just nothing because maybe someday you'll realize that the one you gave away is the very thing you've been wishing for to stay.

Kinagabihan, kinausap si Inday ng kanyang amo...
Inday: Being a third party doesn't mean that you're  destroying a relationship. It only means that you make two souls realize that they are not meant to be!

     More Inday      Quotes:

I pity you for you have degraded your very own pride and dignity by resorting to this despicable behavior just for the sake of having something to feed your fetish appetite for wealth and i hope that one day you'll be rational enough to realize that you should not use other      humans as means in the attainment of your ends. It has been well said that no man ever sank under the burden of the day. It is when tomorrow's burden is added to the burden of today that the weight is more than a man can bear. Never load yourselves so, my friends. If you find yourselves so loaded, at least remember this: it is your own doing, not God's. He begs you to leave the future to Him and mind the present.

Knowledge without common sense, is folly without method, it is waste without kindness, it is fanaticism without religion, it is death. But with common sense, it is wisdom with method, it is power with charity, it is beneficence with religion, it is virtue, and life, and peace.

Inspiration & Hope / Steady and Sustainable
September 20, 2007, 03:29:01 AM

When you're too busy to take a break, that's when a taking a break will do you the most good. Sometimes you reach a point at which the fastest way to go forward is to slow down a bit.
When you rush through your work, never pausing to catch your breath, you're likely to make all sorts of mistakes. Then you'll have to spend time later correcting those mistakes, so the time you gain by hurrying is quickly lost and then exceeded by the toll it takes.

Consider taking a break, clearing your mind and energizing your body. The work will still be there when you get back, and by getting away from it for a while you'll be in a much better position to handle it effectively.

It's great to be ambitious and eager to get the job done. Yet there is nothing to be gained by working until you drop.

The more you focus on the deadline itself, the less likely you are to meet it, so put your focus on getting the job done at a steady and sustainable pace. Instead of worrying about running out of time, completely let go of the worry and make calm, deliberate use of the time.

Don't put yourself behind by attempting to go too far too fast. Move at a pace that enables you to be your best, for that is what will move you ahead most quickly.

Inspiration & Hope / Harmony
September 20, 2007, 03:27:48 AM

Harmony does not mean that everyone is in agreement. It means that no one is attempting to force his or her opinions on others.
Harmony does not mean that everyone is the same. It means that everyone respects and tolerates and even celebrates the differences that give so much richness to life.

Harmony is not ever achieved by brute force. Harmony is reached when every individual understands, on his or her own terms, that it is by far the most effective way to live.

Harmony does not come about through intimidation or scolding or threats of punishment. Harmony is reached through understanding.

Harmony cannot exist where people are interested only in what they can take. Harmony is built through giving.

Harmony comes not by giving in or by being weak or by surrendering one's most treasured principles, or by the cowardly attempt to control others. Harmony is the domain of those who are confident enough in their own lives to allow others to peacefully flourish.

How women were treated when those scriptures were written. Women were submissive and were a lower class of people. I think what it means is to respect your husband as the head of the household. Also, men should respect their wives and treat them well.

Bible Study / You are over it
September 19, 2007, 05:11:22 AM

You may have wasted the entire day, week or month up to this point. Yet that's no reason to continue with the unproductive, negative pattern.
No matter what has gone on before, you can make the most of right now. Any prior ineffectiveness cannot stop you from being truly and purposefully effective in this moment.

You may have made a lot of mistakes and errors in judgment on your way to where you are. But that has nothing to do with where you can choose to go from here.

Don't worry about getting over the past. You are over it because you are here right now.

Right now, your best dreams beckon. Right now, there is plenty that you can do.

Can you feel the incredible freedom and opportunity that this moment represents? Take hold of that freedom, seize this precious, promising moment and live the life you are meant to live.

Bible Study / Powerful positive push
September 19, 2007, 05:10:01 AM

Look carefully and thoughtfully at the things that frustrate you. In each of them you will find real and workable ideas for positive growth.
Frustration occurs when you realize, sometimes painfully, that things are not working nearly as well as they could be. Follow that realization to its natural conclusion and you will find a clearly marked pathway for improvement.

Great inventions, successful companies and immense fortunes have been built through positive responses to frustration. Indeed, frustration has always been a major catalyst for creating value.

People frustrated with the way things are, can develop insatiable appetites for making the world better. Frustration can get you thinking and acting, building, creating and persevering toward a positive purpose.

Frustration is the feeling of knowing it can be better, and the greater the frustration, the more positive and exciting are the possibilities. When you are feeling frustration, remind yourself what a truly great blessing it can be leading you toward.

When you know without a doubt that things can be better, you've already started the process of improvement. Go ahead, feel the frustration, and let it give you a powerful positive push.

Bible Study / It works
September 19, 2007, 05:08:28 AM

Is it realistic to be positive about life? After all, being positive sounds good in theory, yet in the real world so many things can so often go awry.
Yes, being positive is entirely realistic. Because truly being positive is not based on what is or is not likely to happen.

Being positive is all about what you decide to create. Being positive is a perspective from which you can choose to operate.

As such, not only is it realistic to be positive, it is also highly empowering. No matter what may have happened or failed to happen, being positive is the most intelligent and effective way forward.

There are plenty of completely reasonable and perfectly valid reasons for being negative. Yet they are all outweighed by a single, compelling reason for being positive.

Being positive is always realistic because whatever the situation, being positive gives you the most valuable and powerful options. Look around, and you'll see that the best reason to be positive is because it works.

Bible Study / You could or You can
September 19, 2007, 05:04:39 AM

You could curse and complain about your feebleness, or you can get busy and make yourself stronger. You could seethe with resentment about the past, or you can make the choice to let go and move forward.
You could worry endlessly about what might or might not happen, or you can take steps to successfully prepare yourself for anything that comes along. You could make a long list of all the things that will perhaps go wrong, or you can accept the fact that there will be obstacles and decide to deal with them as they come.

You could hide away from the world inside the walls of your comfort zone where nothing challenges you. Or you can make use of every second of your precious time to explore and experience, to get cold, wet, and dirty, and to feel wonderfully alive.

You could let the smallest defeat turn into a big, imposing excuse for giving up. Or you can learn from what went wrong and then step enthusiastically forward with your newfound knowledge and determination.

You could smugly blame all your troubles on something or someone other than you. Or you can take a long, deep breath, then take full responsibility, and feel how empowering it is to be in total control.

There are lots of things you could have been, could have done, could have seen, could have known, and could have experienced. Yet nothing compares to the wondrous places you'll go when you do what you know you can.

Yes, and it is something that you will never understand untill you are approaching the end of your life. See, you sun is rising, mine is setting, I have little good life left. I can only took foreward to no sex, not being able to eat what is good, and a lot of sickness and feeling bad. So, when you have a chance at a young lady, it is like you can go back in time and actually feel like a man for a while. An older man sees a lot more in a woman and appreciates what he sees a lot more than a younger man. You can be an older man's princess.
