It is a very interesting point, Statesville, that you make. Very interesting point.

Several months ago when I was doing my General Surgery clinical observancy, a particular M.D stated during a lecture on HIV/AIDS , "Overwhelming majority of AIDs and HIV cases in the United States are of homosexual men. The etiology of this spread is because of unprotected anal sex that homosexual men partake in, which quickens the spread of the HIV virus considering the epithelium of the anal canal is only 1-cell thick." He made a point that in the 1980's and 1990's, AIDS was considered "The Gay Man's Disease" because an overwhelming majority of AIDS/HIV cases were homosexual men, IV drug users of Homosexual men who practiced unprotected sex and also were IV drug users. Since then, of course, that was changed because Gay Rights activists and groups petitioned to have it changed.

As a medical clinician, i understand their clamor to be respected, however, the attending MD during that lecture was right. Even today, in 2012, the overwhelming majority of HIV/AIDs patients in the United States are homosexual men.

I had a discussion about this with other doctors in the hospital several weeks ago, actually. You hit the point that one of my colleagues, an M.D at the ER, talked about. He pointed out how many social and civil rights activists are forcing medical specialists and authors to change a diagnosis / medical condition to sound more "Politically correct". He noted that some of these social rights activists do not even hold an M.D, Ph.D or any other doctoral degree that indicates their complete comprehension of the genetic, environmental and neuroendocrinal pathology that deals with this disorder.

It is amazing that doctors and research academics have to "walk on egg shells" when discussing this topic.

In the DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), homosexuality and related pathologies are no longer considered "pathologies" for the sake of being "Politically Correct".

Whoever is available may execute the task at hand. Washing dishes, doing laundry, cooking, etc can be done by both men and women. There should be no distinction.

This is very true, Mike, there really should be no distinction. Both husband and wife will see how the spouse truly cares for them and their home. If the husband is really loving, when the wife is going through her "time of the month", he should do all the work and give her a massage and buy her chocolates as well. Ma lipay gayud si inday. :)

Manay,

Its good that you approached him about the issue. Your son , from meeting him an cordially talking to him during our short meeting, seems like a very respectable young man. Do as you must as you are the mother, I also know that your discipline will be just. Ang mga teen-agers , they have this sense of rebelling man gayud, I remember a time when I was like that sa una, mag sekret-sekret sa ahong ginikanan. Pero, it was my mother's direct and just words to me that hit my heart in knowing that sneaking around was wrong. We, as children, need to be corrected by our parents! Who else than our own mothers-- who carried us to term and painfully delivered us.

Hang in there Manay. Good Luck!

PRAYER TO
SAINT MICHAEL
THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. AMEN.

Ampo kanunay, inday. Have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and know that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Philppians 2:10).

Say this prayer:

In the Name of the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit,
I declare myself under the protection of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is above me, below me, beside me, behind me, in front of me
I command all evil spirits to scatter in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah
I close all doors to the spiritual doors that was open, In the Name of Jesus Christ.
I bind all negative energy directed at me from any direction, in the Name of Jesus Christ.

AMEN.

First time I ever saw what was diagnosed as : Schizophrenia, disorganized type with GID (gender identity disorder).

Patient came in because he-she swallowed 100 Tylenol pills (at 500 mg each).

Several months ago, gi invited ko sa party sa ahong duhang amigo (Joelbert is from Santa Barbara, Iloilo and Francis is from Dumanggas, Iloilo) ning attend ko sa ilang "Karaoke Night". Ka ingon ko nga 'relaxed' and event so i didnt' dress formal, i dressed rather casual ra. It turns out that everyone was wearing suits, paita pod. Here i was coming into the karaoke party dressed in jeans , and a sweater, pero every body else was dressed to impress.

During the event, naka kita ko nga ning order diay sila og Lechong Cebuano. While we were singing, i noticed wa jamo beer sa table. Puro ra og wine: Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Rose', Cabernet Sauvignon, etc etc.

Ingon ko sa ahong amigo, si Joelbert, "Pare, ano ba ito? Akala ko karaoke parte pero ano ba....sosyal sosyal naman 'to"

“Galunggong,” or round scad, once considered the poor man’s fish, is now among the marine products the Philippines is importing.

Part of the country’s galunggong supply now comes from either China or Taiwan, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Fish accounts for 80 percent of the animal protein intake of Filipinos, who each eat 28 kilos of fish annually.

BFAR Director Asis Perez said the agency and the Department of Agriculture were compelled to open the domestic market to imported fish because of the declining fish catch.

source: Inquirer.net

During my 1st year of medical school, my friend Job and I would go to the local asian super market and buy gulonggong and pinirito it. It was our favorite food for the weekend kai barato and lami ang taste. Job, who is from Lucena, Luzon, would always say, "Sarap na Sarap yan, pareng Lorenz!"

Ah, it was our source of sustenance for many weekends. We would eat gulonggong with rice and have a bowl of soy sauce and lemon juice. Luoy pod intawn.

It wasn't "Poor man's fish" we both called it "Poor medical student's food" lol!

I think it is rather interesting how so many Filipino politicians are involved in this case when in reality the corruption in the Philippine Government and members of Government is sadly deplorable. The people are left to vote according to the largest "bribe".

How can a nation of some 101 Million people be one of the most weakest countries in South East Asia? Our Armed Forces is so weak , our military personnel very poorly equipped and because of the billions of dollars lost to corruption every year because of our politicians, the Philippines cannot properly defend the national sovereignty , especially in the West Philippine Sea.

Politicians are too busy abusing the pork barrel, too busy siphoning money to their own pockets instead of honestly using funds for its intended purpose. The people , sadly, are just "bribed" to continue this so called "oligarchic democracy" where the rich retain and buy power and the poor are left in the streets.

Poems and Poets / Beside the sea
February 03, 2012, 03:56:59 PM
by Ronald L Conte Jr

i came to mend upon a shore
and mourn a fading city-dream
and find a shell not found before
beside a dimming ocean scene
beneath an unfamiliar sky
i feared the loss of days gone by

my life is empty, as before
my heart is weary, nothing more

and with me one who traveled far
to trust to me her hand
and late we saw the plainest stars
and, sinking in the sand
ignored the midnight meteors
and spoke the boldest plans

lost, two souls upon the sand
distant we, though hand-in-hand

that night came sudden and unsought
and put to shame my haste
and rearranged my cluttered thoughts
and dressed my doubts in lace
and told me tales i'd half forgot
and gave me back my face

and now we are lost in the story
and cannot notice the passing of time

that night renewed the self i lost
and soothed unspoken sorrow
taught well the need for emptiness
and leaving fields to fallow
put salt into my blandest soup
and sand into my hair
and brought me back to childhood's
unanalyzing stare

they say that life began beside the sea
anyone who's square with God is square with me

With a mass 4.5 times that of earth, the gravitational pull would also be substantially greater than that of earth. That could affect human physiology in a negative way.

When you reply,

scroll up and click on the image tab (it is a small picture of mona lisa). When you click on that, you may put the URL location in the said codes. Post it and it should do it. Good Luck.

Typical Day for Psychiatrists, Psychiatry Medical Interns during our Morning Reports @ 8:00 AM.

Dr. Ong (Attending Psychiatrist), Dr. Villanueva (Attending Psychiatrist), and Dr. Hua (3rd Year Resident)

Beautiful smiles, docs! ;D

Dr. Ong, who is a Cebuana, is one of the best attending Doctors in Chicago, in my honest opinion. Pas-pas kaayo ni siya and so full of energy, ruthless in her correction, but equally quick to educate us. I am so used to her morning greeting, "Maayong Buntag, Dodong!"

;D

This is the last week for my Psychiatry Clinical Rotation, thanks be God I am done with that elective rotation.

Would I consider applying for MEDICAL RESIDENCY for Psychiatry?

Yes, I wouldn't mind. One thing that I like about it is the complex nature of the specialty, it truly is like playing a puzzle in trying to identifying the patient disorder, understanding the best mode of treatment / therapy , and all at the same time keeping a check on their medical history , drug interaction.

The time is 2:58 PM.

I just went to attend one of our last department meetings today. I had a talk with a good friend of mine today, hoping he is doing fine. I do miss my mother and father, wish that I could be home to see them again. I also miss my two little brothers, Don and Andre.

yes, lorenz, and today, february 2, candlemas, is her birthday.  she was a very intelligent february-born.  i still mark her birthday after so many years, even if all of us her children have outlived her in terms of number of years of keeping ourselves alive.  (she passed away when i was a little girl.)

Interesting. I don't know why, but when I was was reading this thread last night, something made me think of your mother. Her birthday man diay. Happy Birthday to your Mama, Isles. Ampo ta para nija. Sure ko lipay jamo to imong mama nga maka hinumdum pa ka nija. :)

Poems and Poets / Sola Fide

by: Lorraine Sautner

Kneeling in this sainted place
of marbled grace and spired holiness,
eternity echoes, reverberates
through vaulted columns
and flickering votives of divinity,
as angels gaze with smiles
of benign, plaster
beatitude.

I relax into
all-embracing Hush
my heart exhales, my worries release
into a tangible Presence
so deep, so timeless
my very soul could surrender
to that hot stillness,
that peace which passes all understanding.
So calm, yet so intimate in its attending.

Never has silence spoken so clearly,
Never has stillness moved me
with such savage yearning.
I long to drink of this sacred expansiveness,
to taste its divine mystery:
The Alpha and the Omega
never changing, yet somehow always new.

I am only beginning to appreciate
that Heart which burns continuously
with unrequited passion;
beginning to realize
that love and sacrifice
are necessarily, irrevocably
entwined.

I am finally starting to understand
the boundless depth
of a Shepherd’s fierce devotion.
To see that He can never rest,
never stop searching,
until the least of His lambs
is safe within His arms.
