Akong pangutan-on."

Mitubag ang pasyente, "Ganahan man, Dok."

Venice will "almost certainly" be uninhabitable by 2100 because of rising water levels and flooding, a meeting of international scientists in Cambridge, England, was warned.

The famed Italian city, built on 118 sea islets and joined by 400 bridges, may not be around in another 100 years.

For Venice, which rests on millions of wooden piles pounded into marshy ground, is gradually sinking into the water.

A four-day conference organised by the Venice in Peril Fund to find a way to rescue the city was told that its population has fallen from 150,000 in the 1950s to 58,000 today.

After spending a morning on the river Cam in gondolas and punts, more than 100 scientists started their meeting which is due to hear from two British about their knowledge of the Thames Barrier.

The conference comes at a time when St Mark's Square in Venice is being flooded about 100 times each year, compared with 10 times in 1900.

The city is 23 centimetres further under water than it was 100 years ago. Rising water levels in the lagoon account for 10cm of the total and 13cm come from subsidence.

Nicky Baly, the development director of Venice in Peril, founded after the 1966 Venice flood by a former British ambassador to Italy, said: "We can keep on paying to restore Venetian buildings, but what if the city is no longer there for our grandchildren? If Venice is to continue to survive, solutions are required, fast."

The charity, which has donated millions to the upkeep of buildings, warned that Venice remains as "undefended" as it was in 1966 when the entire city was flooded.

October 07, 2007, 05:38:11 AM
Most men dislike a teaching which lays upon them strict moral requirements that check their natural desires. Yet they like to be considered as Christians, and listen willingly to the hypocrites who preach that our righteousness is only that God holds us to be righteous, even if we are bad people, and that our righteousness is without us and not in us, for, according to such teaching, they can be counted as holy people. Woe to those who preach that men of sinful walk can not be considered pious; most are furious when they hear this, as we see and experience, and would like all such preachers to be driven away or even killed; but where that cannot be done, they strengthen their hypocrite preachers with praise, comfort, presents and protection, so that they may go on happily and give no place to the truth, however clear it may be.

Inspiration & Hope / Give your very best
October 07, 2007, 05:30:49 AM

When you set out to cause harm to others, you will harm yourself even more. If your intent is to deceive, you will find that you have succeeded in cheating yourself.
Make your purpose to give, and you will end up receiving something of real and lasting value. When your goal is to teach, there is much that you will learn.

When you sincerely appreciate others for who they are, you will be genuinely admired for who you are. Act with respect in each encounter, and you will be well respected.

The motives that you direct toward others will, without fail and without exception, affect you as well. You cannot escape the consequences of your own intentions, so make those intentions positive.

Intend the very best for all of the world around you, and you will benefit greatly as well. Seek to give nourishment and support to life, and you will grow stronger with each passing moment.

What you give to and wish upon your world determines what comes into your life. Give your very best at all times, and that is exactly what you'll get.

MANILA, Philippines -- Soon after Manny Pacquiao demolished Mexican legend
Erik Morales in three rounds in their November 2006 fight in Las Vegas,
councilors of Davao City raised a howl over Sarah Geronimo's rendition of
the National Anthem just before the fight began.

Councilor Nilo Abellera said Geronimo's slow, "kundiman-like" interpretation
was a bastardization of the national song. He filed a resolution reminding
the people of Davao how the anthem should be sung.

What is the proper way of singing the anthem?

According to Ambeth Ocampo, chair of the National Historical Institute
(NHI), guidelines on how the anthem should be sung are enshrined in the law.

Section 37 of Republic Act No. 8491 (An Act Prescribing the Code of the
National Flag, Anthem, Motto, Coat of Arms, and other Heraldic Items and
Devices of the Philippines) -- passed in 1998, the year of the Philippine
centennia -- says the "rendition of the National Anthem, whether played or
sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of
Julian Felipe."

Felipe is the Cavite composer that President Emilio Aguinaldo commissioned
on June 5, 1898 to prepare a composition which would be played during
Independence ceremonies.

Originally titled Marcha Filipina Magdalo, the composition was adopted as
the official march of the Philippines.

The anthem remained without words until August 1899, when a young
poet-soldier named Jose Palma wrote the poem, Filipinas, which became the
anthem's lyrics.

Ocampo said that the anthem, when played, "must carry a brisk martial tone
and tempo."

Teodoro Atienza, heraldry section head of the NHI's Research, Publications
and Heraldry Division, said that when sung "at the proper pace," the
national anthem should last from only "53 seconds to less than a minute."

But national anthem boo-boos still abound.

Aside from Geronimo, singers Lani Misalucha, who sang in the first
Pacquiao-Morales bout on March 19, 2005, and Bituin Escalante (July 2, 2006,
Pacquiao vs. Larios at the Araneta Coliseum), also took vocal liberties in
their renditions of the National Anthem.

Jennifer Bautista, who sang in the Pacquiao-Morales rematch on Jan. 21,
2006, went off-key on the song's last word.

At the Sept. 16, 2007 match between reigning world bantamweight champion
Gerry Peñalosa and North American Boxing Federation bantamweight champion
Bernabe Concepcion in Alabang, Christian Bautista delivered an abbreviated
version of the song when he missed the lines, "Buhay ay langit sa piling mo
/ Aming ligaya na 'pag may mang-aapi. [In thine embrace 'tis rapture to
lie/But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged]"

Bautista apologized for the "memory lapse."

Pacquiao has chosen Kyla to sing the national anthem in his Oct. 6 rematch
with Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Atienza said the Institute had spoken to the GMA network to remind Kyla
about the proper way of singing the national song.

Singers who do not follow the rules can be fined P50,000 or be imprisoned
for a year, or both, he said.

"But our lawyer says we can't go after the singers because they sing
abroad," Atienza said. "Of course, that doesn't mean they should forget
their obligation to their country and their people."

Inspiration & Hope / Do you realize?
October 06, 2007, 05:04:08 AM
Do you understand where you are right now? You are in a place, a time, and a set of circumstances toward which you've been moving your entire life.
Do you realize the enormous opportunity that now exists? You are more experienced and better prepared than ever before.

Each past failure is now a positive and valuable lesson that you've learned about what works and what doesn't. All the disappointments you've ever known have now combined together to create a powerful and meaningful determination that permeates your life.

By this point in your life, your dreams and desires are more in line with who you truly are than they've ever been before. And now you're perfectly positioned to actually achieve them.

Do you realize how truly unique and powerful this very moment is? This is the moment when you can begin to fulfill your greatest possibilities.

This is the moment you've been working your way toward for a long time. You are here at last, so fill your world with the lifetime of richness that you're able to give.

Inspiration & Hope / Cut challenges down to size
October 06, 2007, 05:01:33 AM

Unlike most things, challenges almost always look bigger and more imposing from a distance than they do when you get close to them. Most of the challenges you're avoiding will not seem nearly so overwhelming when you choose to actually face them.
The challenges that intimidate you require your assistance to do so. On their own, they're really not so tough, yet in your imagination they can grow to monstrous proportions.

The way to cut those challenges down to size is to get busy working on them. Once you're immersed in the details you'll realize that they're not so bad after all.

How many times have you desperately avoided something, only to discover later that there was really no reason to avoid it at all? Very often, the effort spent avoiding a difficult challenge is more demanding and burdensome than the challenge itself.

What have you been avoiding because you just didn't want to deal with it? Imagine how great it will be to have that burden fall completely away.

Go ahead, pick a challenge that has been intimidating you, and get busy working your way through it. Then, instead of living with constant intimidation you'll be enjoying the real value you've just created.

Inspiration & Hope / Make this the day
October 06, 2007, 04:58:51 AM

Make this the day you come fully to life. Make this the day you take real, meaningful steps toward fulfilling the best of your possibilities.
Make this the day you experience, more completely than ever before, how great it feels to create a positive difference. Make this the day you commit to using your extensive skills, interests and resources to produce a real and lasting contribution to life.

Make this the day you hit upon a unique and valuable way to express the beautiful, authentic person you are. Make this the day you truly see the profound beauty that is in every little detail of life.

Make this the day you let go of the useless and destructive negative attitudes you thought for so long that you needed. Make this the day you connect with the power of sincere and positive intention.

Make this the day you rise above the pettiness and triviality that seek to drown you in a sea of futility. Make this the day you open your eyes to the grand and brilliant possibilities that are your life.

Everything up to this point has served as perfect preparation for the day that is now in your grasp. Make this the day you make it all count for something truly great.

Facts and Trivia / Priest becomes 'prisoner of love'
October 06, 2007, 04:41:40 AM

The people in a remote Italian village walled up their local priest in the parish church to prevent him from leaving.

Fr Emilio Succhiella became a 'prisoner of love' after Capuchin Franciscans decided to withdraw from Trasacco, in the mountainous Abruzzo region near Rome, after 428 years of service.

Protesting villagers took the unusual step after they had unsuccessfully appealed to the Orders Provincial and to the local bishop.

They bricked up the main entrance to the 17th century Convento della Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso to prevent Fr. Succhiella, its sole occupant, from leaving.

Other doors were secured with chains and padlocks and protesters mounted a 24-hour guard outside.

The local mayor described the priest's imprisonment as a popular uprising, adding that villages were feeding the priest by passing food through a grille.

Church services continued with Fr Succhiella passing the bread and wine for Communion through the grill so it could be used at open air Masses.

A bemused Fr. Succhiella, who had arrived in Trasacco only last December after serving as a missionary for 30 years in Colombia, told reporters he was well used to hardship.

"But the last thing I imagined was that I would be held hostages back in Italy. I am a prisoner of love. They are keeping me here because they love God, and they love me."

After intervention from police and church authorities, Fr Succhiella finally managed to persuade his captors to release him. He explained the need to be obedient to the will of his superiors and the villagers, bowing to the inevitable, agreed.

Chinese walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan
officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to Taiwan on
business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.

The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security

for the loan, so the Chinese hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked

on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything

checks out.

The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan.
The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the
Chinese for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000
loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's
underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the Chinese returns, repays the $5,000 and the
interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Sir, we are
very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked
out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we
checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles

us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"

The Chinese replies: "Where else in New York City can I park my car for
two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"

Ah, the mind of the Chinese..

FBI = Federal Bureau of Investigation, USA
CIA = Central Intelligence Agency , USA
PNP = Philippine National Police, Phil (Special

Usa ka puti nga rabbit ang gibuhian sa lasang each agency is given three (3) months to find the rabbit.

NYPD.
Nag release sila ug press statement, "After 3 months of intensive search for the white rabbit, we regret to inform you that because the rabbit had a head start, it was able to elude our units, and was able to pass through our dragnet. The rabbit has escaped."

Nag release rin sila ng press statement, "After 3 months of finding the white rabbit, we had some interesting leads. However, as we were closing in on its location, somebody must have tipped it off, and it was able to elude us by disguising as a deer. The rabbit has
escaped."

Next ang CIA.
Tungod kay naa silay special powers to request assistance from the US Military, gidala nila ang US Army para mutabang ug pangita.
After 3 months of firefight, bombing, and special operations.AFter 3 mos:
nag press statement, "We used everything at our disposal. We didn't leave any stone unturned. We bombed everything in sight. I'm sure, you will not find any rabbit there anymore. He's probably scattered all around the forest in tiny little pieces!"

Last, but not least, the PNP.

Apartment

A proper man met a beautiful girl and agreed to
spend the night with her for $500. So they did,
and before he left, he told her that he did not
have any cash with him, but that he would have
his secretary write a check and mail it to her,
calling the payment "RENT FOR APARTMENT." On the
way to the office he regretted what he had done,
realizing that the whole event was not worth the
price. So he had his secretary send a check for
$250 and enclosed the following note:

Dear Madam,
Enclosed find a check in the amount of $250 for
rent of your apartment. I am not sending the
amount agreed upon, because when I rented the
apartment, I was under the impression that:
1) it had never been occupied;
2) that there was plenty of heat;
3) that it was small enough to make me cozy and
at home. Last night, however, I found out that it
had been previously occupied, that there wasn't
any heat, and that it was entirely too large.

Upon receipt of the note, the girl immediately
returned the check for $250.00 with the following
note:

Dear Sir:
First of all, I cannot understand how you expect
a beautiful apartment to remain unoccupied
indefinitely. As for the heat, there is plenty of
it, if you know how to turn it on. Regarding the
space, the apartment is indeed of regular size,
but if you don't have enough furniture to fill
it, please do not blame the landlady.

Inspiration & Hope / Get unstuck
October 04, 2007, 12:43:35 AM

If you feel like you're stuck, in many ways that's a positive sign. It means you're eager to get moving.
The feeling of being stuck shows that there's somewhere you truly would like to go, and you're ready for some real progress. It means you're highly motivated, and that's a powerful state to be in.

Instead of focusing on the particular problem of the moment that's making you feel stuck, step back and look at the big picture. Recall the reasons why you originally chose to be on this path in the first place.

Most likely, the challenge you're facing right now is trivial compared to the goal you've set for yourself. Put things in perspective and you'll realize that what's really keeping you stuck is not the situation itself but rather your response to it.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, choose to start working your way through the challenge one step at a time. There is a little bit you can do now, a little bit of progress you can make later, and bit by bit you'll make your way through.

Take advantage of the frustration you feel, and redirect the energy of that frustration into positive, thoughtful action. You'll soon be looking back on this moment with the grateful realization that you just cleared a major hurdle and are quickly moving forward again.

Inspiration & Hope / Morning and Evening
October 04, 2007, 12:36:09 AM

It is a common-place thought, and yet it tastes like nectar to the weary heart--Jesus I was tempted as I am. You have heard that truth many times: have you grasped it? He was tempted to the very same sins into which we fall. Do not dissociate Jesus from our common manhood. It is a dark room which you are going through, but Jesus went through it before. It is a sharp fight which you are waging, but Jesus has stood foot to foot with the same enemy. Let us be of good cheer, Christ has borne the load before us, and the blood-stained footsteps of the King of glory may be seen along the road which we traverse at this hour. There is something sweeter yet--Jesus was tempted, but Jesus never sinned. Then, my soul, it is not needful for thee to sin, for Jesus was a man, and if one man endured these temptations and sinned not, then in His power His members may also cease from sin.

Some beginners in the divine life think that they cannot be tempted without sinning, but they mistake; there is no sin in being tempted, but there is sin in yielding to temptation. Herein is comfort for the sorely tempted ones. There is still more to encourage them if they reflect that the Lord Jesus, though tempted, gloriously triumphed, and as He overcame, so surely shall His followers also, for Jesus is the representative man for His people; the Head has triumphed, and the members share in the victory. Fears are needless, for Christ is with us, armed for our defence. Our place of safety is the bosom of the Saviour. Perhaps we are tempted just now, in order to drive us nearer to Him. Blessed be any wind that blows us into the port of our Saviour's love! Happy wounds, which make us seek the beloved Physician. Ye tempted ones, come to your tempted Saviour, for He can be touched with a feeling of your infirmities, and will succor every tried and tempted one.

Inspiration & Hope / Streams in the Desert
October 02, 2007, 02:39:43 PM
It is a remarkable circumstance that the most brilliant colors of plants are to be seen on the highest mountains, in spots that are most exposed to the wildest weather. The brightest lichens and mosses, the loveliest gems of wild flowers, abound far up on the bleak, storm-scalped peak.

One of the richest displays of organic coloring I ever beheld was near the summit of Mount Chenebettaz, a hill about 10,000 feet high, immediately above the great St. Bernard Hospice. The whole face of an extensive rock was covered with a most vivid yellow lichen which shone in the sunshine like the golden battlement of an enchanted castle.

There, in that lofty region, amid the most frowning desolation, exposed to the fiercest tempest of the sky, this lichen exhibited a glory of color such as it never showed in the sheltered valley. I have two specimens of the same lichen before me while I write these lines, one from the great St. Bernard, and the other from the wall of a Scottish castle, deeply embossed among sycamore trees; and the difference in point of form and coloring between them is most striking.

The specimen nurtured amid the wild storms of the mountain peak is of a lovely primrose hue, and is smooth in texture and complete in outline, while the specimen nurtured amid the soft airs and the delicate showers of the lowland valley is of a dim rusty hue, and is scurfy in texture, and broken in outline.

And is it not so with the Christian who is afflicted, tempest-tossed, and not comforted? Till the storms and vicissitudes of God's providence beat upon him again and again, his character appears marred and clouded; but trials clear away the obscurity, perfect the outlines of his disposition, and give brightness and blessing to his life.

Amidst my list of blessings infinite
Stands this the foremost, that my heart has bled;
For all I bless Thee, most for the severe.

;D
two female friends can hold hands and nobody thinks twice, but if two men hold hands everyone thinks they are gay. Women can dance with each other and it's OK, but if two men dance together, they are percieved as homosexual.

I think it's because society sees men as being intensely sexual but it doesn't see women the same way. If women show affection it can be non sexual, but any male display of affection is seen as sexually based, no matter what.

Inspiration & Hope / Celebrate what's working
October 01, 2007, 01:04:13 PM

Out of necessity, you often focus on the things in your life that are not working as well as you'd like them to be. It pays to also consider, appreciate and celebrate the vastly large number of things that are working just great.
Occasionally you'll turn the key in the ignition and your car won't start, causing hassles, frustration and delays. Yet how very many more times do you have cause to be thankful when you turn the key, the car starts right up, and you drive quickly and safely to your destination?

The problems and the pains may at times seem to be overwhelming. Keep in mind though, that the only reason you notice them at all is because they are so relatively rare.

The news each day may appear to be all bad news. However, what qualifies anything to be news is the fact that it is highly unusual.

In the normal course of life, there are so very many things which work just fine that you only notice a small fraction of them all. Open your awareness to more of them, seek to be more genuinely thankful for them, and you'll connect more fully to their immensely positive power.

Celebrate what's working in your life and in your world, and those few things that are not working will hardly be able to even slow you down. Celebrate what's working, and it will increasingly work even better for you.

Inspiration & Hope / Fulfillment of desires
October 01, 2007, 01:03:08 PM

If you are not moving forward, it's because you are holding yourself back. You may have chosen to blame your lack of progress on outside factors, yet deep down you know that you are the primary factor.
It doesn't really matter why or how you've chosen to prevent yourself from achieving your desired results. What's crucial is that you simply get out of the way and allow yourself to move forward.

There is a very real and accessible connection between you and whatever it is that you desire. To achieve your desired results takes nothing more than activating that connection and letting it follow its natural course.

The same conditions that make your desires possible also make it possible for you to fulfill those desires. So stop fighting those conditions and start making use of them.

You are not separate from the fulfillment of your dreams. You are in fact the person through whom that fulfillment can be most easily and most magnificently expressed.

Let the seeds of your treasured desires grow as they will in the fertile ground of intention. Allow whatever you seek to flow freely and unhindered from the best of who you are.

A nun, badly needing to use the restroom, walked into a local Hooters.
The place was hopping with music and loud conversation and every
once in a while the lights would turn off.

Each time the lights would go out, the place would erupt into cheers.
However, when the revelers saw the nun, the room went dead silent.

She walked up to the bartender, and asked, "May I please use the restroom?

The bartender replied, "OK, but I should warn you that
there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf."

"Well, in that case I'll just look the other way," said the nun.

So, the bartender showed the nun to the back of the restaurant,
and she preceded to the restroom. After a few minutes, she came back out,
and the whole place stopped just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause.

She went to the bartender and said, "Sir, I don't understand!
Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?"

"Well, now they know you're one of us," said the bartender,
"Would you like a drink?"

"But, I still don't understand," said the puzzled nun.

"You see," laughed the bartender, "every time the fig leaf on the
statue is lifted up, the lights go out. Now, how about that drink?"

Facts and Trivia / Giant guinea pig as big as buffalo
September 30, 2007, 11:56:20 AM

The largest rodent ever was a giant guinea pig as big as a buffalo, which lived in South America eight million years ago, researchers say this week in the journal Science.

An exterminator's nightmare, the creature weighed 1,545 pounds and was more than 700 times heavier than its modern cousins. It had a voracious appetite and big teeth.

More than twice as heavy as the previous record holder,it was more than 10 times the size of today's largest living rodent, the South American capybara.

When resting on its hind legs, in the posture used by many of its modern-day relatives, it would have stood taller than the typical basketball player.

An almost complete fossil was unearthed at Urumaco in Venezuela and analysis of it has enabled scientists to build up a picture of the beast.

Scientists in Germany, Venezuela and the United States who made the discovery have called the creature Phoberomys pattersoni - which means "fearsome mouse of Patterson," in honor of the late Professor Brian Patterson. He was the American palaeontologist who was one of the first to study in the region in which the skeleton was found.

This giant rodent grazed on grasses, which it must have eaten in large amounts to support its great size. It had fur, a smooth head with small ears and eyes, and a large tail that allowed it to balance on two hind legs to watch out for predators.

There were a lot of meat eaters around which probably preyed on the slow moving, plant eating giant. Some of the largest crocodiles ever, more than 10 meters (33 feet) long, were in the same location it was found.

This weird looking titanic guinea pig also had to worry about large carnivores called marsupial cats, and huge flesh-eating birds called phorracoids.

Inspiration & Hope / Kindness
September 30, 2007, 11:48:57 AM

Have you experienced lately how offering a little kindness can refresh your very soul? All around you are opportunities to do just that.
Kindness is its own reason. Kindness is its own reward.

Are you weary from all the anxiety, frustration, worry, anger and confusion that seem to continually build up within your life? A little kindness can quickly help to melt all that away.

You can tell people all day long that you really care, and many will still not believe you. Yet give some genuine kindness on a regular basis and you won't have to tell them anything; they'll know.

Are you strong enough and confident enough to give of yourself out of pure kindness? Just do it, and you'll discover that you are indeed.

There can never be too much kindness in the world. Create some more today, and find real joy in its warm glow.

Inspiration & Hope / This is the day
September 30, 2007, 11:47:46 AM

If you've been waiting to start really living your life, today is the day to begin. As of this moment, your wait is over.
Sure, it would be nice if you could wait just a little bit longer, to get in better shape, to get a little more organized, or to save up some more money. The fact is, though, that things are never going to be perfect, so why not just go ahead and jump right now into the fullness of life?

You know all those things you've been telling yourself that someday you'll get around to doing? That idealized someday is never really going to come, yet the good news is that today is just fine and is here for you right now.

Today is what you have to work with. Today is when you can actually give life to your dreams.

Today you can put those things you've been meaning to do into real, effective, fulfilling action. Today you will experience how good it is to go beyond merely planning, dreaming and intending, and to bring those beautiful plans to life.

Though it may seem very ordinary, this is the day you've been waiting to live. Breathe in the sweet air of limitless possibility, and make life as rich as you know it can be.

A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed.

He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he's in there, the husband tells his wife:

"Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck." If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you."

To which his wife responds: "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you too!!"
