Quotable Quotes / A Man Of Silence
December 15, 2007, 08:24:57 PM
Nothing is more becoming a man than silence. It is not the preaching but
the practice which ought to be considered as the more important. A
profusion of words is sure to lead to error.

Quotable Quotes / Broken With Difficulty
December 15, 2007, 08:23:45 PM
Like an earthen pot, a bad man is easily broken, and cannot readily be
restored to his former situation; but a virtuous man, like a vase of gold, is
broken with difficulty, and easily repaired.

I asked an experienced elder who had profited by his knowledge of the
world, "What course should I pursue to obtain prosperity?" He replied,
"Contentment--if you are able, practice contentment."

Paugnat Sa Kusog
sinulat ni m. ortega ligalig

Mao pa lay akong pag-abot
Dinhi sa gawasanan ug singot -
Ug atua na ang uban namauli -
Ug ang pipila padayong
Nagpuga sa kahayag sa adlaw

Mamahulay na sila,
Mauga ang parat nga kakapoy
Apan ako - mosugod pa
Sa paglibot, kapito o kawalo,
Niining timawa nga CPG Complex

Moabot ang ikapitong takna,
Ang kainit mamahaw sa akong agtang
Mahumod ang akong dughan, likod
Sa natulog nga mga tambok sa unod -
Ug ako mag-inusara, gukdon ang kahimsog

I had an officemate in Davao City who cries every time she hears this song.
Actually, this song is a theme song sa ilang panaghigugmaay. Unya kay namatay man
ang laki kay giurom. I think he was 27 or 25 when he died. It took more than 10 years
for the girl to recover from the pain. Dugay gyud siya naminyo.

I can't sing this song to her kung magkita mi.

Sauna, tuyuon nako ug kanta ni sa office para makadungog siya.

Now that I've experienced the pain of death, of losing a loved one, I realized I was wrong when I intentionally sang this song in the presence of my officemate. I was 21 years old. :)

Bran, if you type Lucino Family (without the word Bohol) in google.com, we rank No. 9.
#15610
Another example is when you type the phrase bohol lorenzo or Bohol Lorenzo in google.com, Tubag Bohol ranks no. 1 in search ranking result.

Or if you type Bohol Lucino Family in google.com, Tubag Bohol comes out No. 1 in the search engine result.

I am dreaming that one day a Bol-anon would find a lost relative in Tubag Bohol by just typing a name or family name in google.com.

Help & Support / Why We Have Guidelines In Tubag Bohol
December 15, 2007, 02:51:20 PM
Why are we implementing certain guidelines on how to type our titles or subjects or why we should avoid many dots, periods, commas, question marks, exclamation points, etc.?

We are doing this so that we can maintain our Tubag Bohol as Google-and-Yahoo-friendly site.

Many websites pay thousands of dollars to SEO (search engine optimization) companies so that their websites would appear on the top 10 of search engine results. We don't do that because we simply can't afford that.

Today if you hire a search engine optimizer, it will cost you as much as $10,000 a year.

Myself a search engine optimizer, I've spent hundreds of hours optimizing Tubag Bohol, so I don't need to pay thousands of dollars to SEOs.

As an example, if you type the phrase bohol orchids in google.com, Tubag Bohol website will come out first. Or if you type the name handel lagunay in google.com, Tubag Bohol comes out second in the rank. Or if you type bohol buy and sale in google, com, we rank no. 7 and 8 in search results. There are many other keywords and phrases that appear no. 1 or top 10 in google.com search ranking results.

There are billions of web pages indexed by Google and Yahoo. If you appear no. 1 in search engine results or even in the top 10, that is something you can smile of at the end of the day (usually dawn time), knowing your sleepless nights have been paid off.

That doesn't stop there. The rank has to be maintained everyday. And search engine optimization is only one of the many works I do for Tubag Bohol.

That's why my heart cries when one of us (as what we've experienced before) abused our site by violating certain guidelines here. They don't have any idea how much efforts and time have been used by all of us to have this site run smoothly in the web universe.

I don't think Tubag Bohol deserves to be abused for we do nothing wrong to anyone in this planet.

#15613
Google and Yahoo search engines are very particular with how a page title is being typed or encoded.

This is Tubag Bohol's guideline in typing your title or subject:

1. Avoid ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in your subject or title.
2. Avoid having all small letters in your title or subject.
3. Avoid unnecessary characters in your title like many dots, periods, commas, question marks, exclamation points, or the repetition of a single letter like hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh or ssssssssssssssssss.
4. Don't end your title with a period or exclamation point, but you can end your subject with a question mark if it is a question.

What Is The Best Way?

1. Write Your Subject Or Topic With A Capital Letter At The Beginning Of Every Word (like the one that you've just read)
#15614
When you make a reply, you can edit the subject or topic of any thread. This is especially helpful when you want to highlight your opinion. Make your subject or title as short and descriptive as possible. Avoid putting title or subject with unnecessary dots, commas, periods, question marks, or exclamation points because these characters are avoided by Google and Yahoo search engines. Help Tubag Bohol become a Google-friendly website.

If you care about Tubag Bohol, never use a lot of periods, commas, question marks, dots, or whatever unnecessary characters in any part of the site whether in the content/body or subject/title.

This notice comes as a warning.

At The Cross
By Hillsong United

Oh Lord You've searched me
You know my way
Even when I fail You
I know You love me

Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now

You go before me
You shield my way
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now?

You tore the veil
You made a way
When You said that it is done

And when the earth fades
Falls from my eyes
And You stand before me
I know You love me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now?

Note: I remember when I was so down I kept singing this song until its meaning penetrated into my soul, and God's presence comforted. The I started to sob.

Words:Deborah D. Smith
Music: Michael W. Smith

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus:
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord is the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
cause the welcome will not end

Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show

But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

History / Robbery Suspects Arrested in Talibon, Bohol
December 15, 2007, 11:06:36 AM
Published in January 2005 in the Bohol Chronicle

The strings of robberies in the province were virtually solved with the arrest of four, out of the five, top robbery personalities operating in municipalities during the past two months.

An alert response team from the Philippine National Police (PNP) cornered the suspects during a hot pursuit operation from Talibon town to a hinterland barangay in San Miguel town last Saturday.

PNP Prov'l Director Sancho Bernales identified the four robbery personalities as Rosalio Vergara alias "Salle," 46, an escapee from the Sablayan Prison Penal Farm in Mindoro Occidental; Eutiquio Apaap Jr., alias "Junior Apaap," 36; Ruben Montemayor alias "Kokoy," 27, and Ruel Bon, 31.

The four were nabbed after victimizing businessman Baltazar Apondar Jr. of barangay San Jose, Talibon town.

Vergara who was convicted for robbery hails from San Miguel, Lanao del Norte but resides in Nueva Fuerza, Carmen town and likewise claims residence at V. Rama St., in Cebu City. Apaap who is convicted for murder has been wanted by the police. He is a native of Canggawa, Buenavista town but resides in Taloto district, this city. Montemayor, convicted for illegal possession of firearm, is a native of San Miguel town, while Bon is a robbery suspect residing in Poblacion, Bien Unido town.

Seized from the suspects were .45 caliber pistol with 11 live ammunitions; two snubnose caliber .38 revolver with five live ammos; and cash worth P1,030.

The hot pursuit operation led by Talibon police chief, Senior Inspector Antonietto Cuyos, was backed up by the San Miguel PNP under Police Inspector Felicito Garcia Sr. The suspects were caught with their Honda 125cc and Suzuki X3 motorcycles which they used in their get-away route.

Gov. Erico Aumentado announced the arrest of the four robbery personalities over DYRD's "Inyong Alagad" last Monday. He asked Bernales to fascilitate the gathering of robbery victims in order to identify if these arrested persons were the perpetrators in the other robberies including Baclayon Mayor Benny Uy who was hogtied together with his wife last week.

Bernales told the Chronicle that the fifth suspect who managed to escape is now the object of a massive manhunt.

The group was placed under surveilance since after they were reported to victimize residents in the towns. Police noted the upsurge of their activities following the death of robbery suspect Eduardo Pojas, an escapee of the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) who was allegedly gunned down while trying to slip from the escorting team on the way back to the BDRC last year.

The Philippine Coconut Authority has found a natural ace in its sleeves in its fight against the feared coconut leaf beetle.

And the knight in shining black armor against the brontispa longissima is the earwig, the pest’s local natural predator.

The earwig, whose seemingly menacing form has caused a superstition that they can crawl into the ears of sleeping persons and bore into the brain, is characteristically identifiable due to their forceps, but these are practically harmless to man.

Earwigs belong to dermeptera family and vary in size from 1/2-1" in length, often brown to black in color. Species may be winged or wingless. Only a few species are good fliers. The body terminates in a pair of forceps. These forceps are used in capturing prey and mating, the encyclopedia defines.

Earwigs eat the larvae of the coconut leaf beetle, explains Allan Cajilog of the local Philippine Coconut Authority [PCA].

With the recent discovery by local PCA authorities, manager Timoteo Lago Jr. has ordered the culture of the earwigs at the local PCA office for further distribution to coconut farmers especially in affected towns.

The local coconut industry was rocked by the threat of the brontispa, which has been reported to have the capacity to wipe out the industry.

The Brontispa [coconut leaf beetle] is a slender beetle generally a centimeter long and feeds on soft tissues of the coconut fronds until the trees die, shows a PCA produced poster.

When under attack, a coconut’s young fronds appear damaged resulting from the pest’s feeding. The fronds appear brownish while the outer older fronds may still be green on early stage of attack.

According to records from the PCA, they have treated some 13,172 coconut trees in Baclayon, Alburquerque, Dauis and Panglao since September.

The present tow methods of treatment being used are the cut, burn and spray and the drill, pour and plug method, PCA authorities said.

The first method is used on non fruit bearing trees and entails wrapping the sword leaf with cellophane or paper, cutting it and burning it. Then the cut portion on the tree would be applied with insecticides.

The second method is used for fruit bearing trees where holes about half an inch in diameter and six inches in depth are dug in its bole, a systemic insecticide injected in the holes and then the holes are plugged with a piece of wood to avoid the entry of other pests.

President Bush vetoed legislation Wednesday that would have expanded government-provided health insurance for children, his second slap-down of a bipartisan effort in Congress to dramatically increase funding for the popular program.

It was Bush's seventh veto in seven years - all but one coming since Democrats took control of Congress in January. Wednesday was the deadline for Bush to act or let the bill become law. The president also vetoed an earlier, similar bill expanding the health insurance program.

Bush vetoed the bill in private.

In a statement notifying Congress of his decision, Bush said the bill was unacceptable because - like the first one - it allows adults into the program, would cover people in families with incomes above the U.S. median and raises taxes.

"This bill does not put poor children first, and it moves our country's health care system in the wrong direction," Bush's statement said. "Ultimately, our nation's goal should be to move children who have no health insurance to private coverage, not to move children who already have private health insurance to government coverage."

Weird and Extreme / Man Cuts Out His Testicles (kasakit)
December 14, 2007, 07:14:08 PM
A prisoner is suing Oregon Department of Corrections Director Max Williams and 16 other state prison officials for ignoring what he calls his severe case of gender-identity disorder.

According to a civil-rights lawsuit filed Nov. 21 at U.S. District Court in Portland, 27-year-old Jorey Lee Brewisâ€"aka Rebekah Katherineâ€"was so troubled that he cut out his testicles in his cell and mutilated them.

Brewis was sentenced to 70 months in 2000 for robbery. But he's had his original sentence extended by seven years for a series of convictions while behind bars for assault, carrying a weapon and supplying contraband. He is currently being held at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

Brewis refers to himself as a female throughout the lawsuit, which says his discomfort with his male body is so severe that he's tried suicide four times since 2002 and has tried to castrate himself 13 times.

"Plaintiff grieves deeply over hair loss due to male pattern baldness caused by testosterone, and also grief over restriction from shaving her body free of the men's length hair growing on whole body," the hand-written lawsuit says. "This disjunction between body and mind causes plaintiff everyday misery and compels desires to castrate the testicles."

Weird and Extreme / Woman Marries Ten Times In 5 Years
December 14, 2007, 07:01:37 PM
Reported By Michele Gillen

A South Florida woman has been arrested in an extreme and rare case of bigamy.

According to an arrest report, released by the State Attorney's Office, Eunice Lopez, a Cuban National, has married ten different men in nearly five years, and she never filed for divorce in any of the cases.

The first marriage took place in June of 2002 and the tenth marriage took place in November of 2006. She even married two men in the same month, in November of 2005, according to the arrest report.

So why did she do it? According to the Office of Investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), she was paid by the men so that they could stay in the U.S. She was allegedly running a virtual marriage mill.

Weird and Extreme / Soul For Sale
December 14, 2007, 06:44:10 PM
An American man is selling his soul on the internet for £500,000 - to raise money for Christmas.

He says the winning eBay bidder will receive his spirit in a glass jar as well as a contract "relinquishing ownership".

He told buyers: "I've got no money for the Christmas holidays, and all I've got left to sell is my soul.

"I'm not really using it lately - and selling it on eBay is better than letting the Devil have it."

A Canadian oil field worker got the shock of his life when he opened his cell phone bill and found himself being charged $85,000 (Canadian).

Piotr Staniaszek got an unlimited browsing plan as part of his cell phone service and thought that meant he could use his phone as a modem for his computer. The 22-year-old then used his phone to download movies and other high-resolution files when he was out by himself on the field.

Bell Mobility, though, says using the phone to download stuff to his computer isn't covered by his unlimited plan, thus the astronomical cell phone bill. The bill started at $60,000 Canadian and then jumped up to $85,000. As a measure of "goodwill" the company lowered his bill to $3,400 Canadian but that's still too high said Staniaszek's dad, who went to the press to plead his son's case.

The country's Internet access industry is undergoing major changes with traditional Internet service provides (ISPs) now making way for multi-service, multi-focus companies offering services that go beyond basic Internet access.

According to William Torres, president of industry group Philippine Internet Services Organization (PISO), Internet companies in the Philippines have transformed their business to align themselves with emerging market demands, such as online games and communications.

"We have seen how traditional ISPs, which have invested heavily on providing Internet access [services] only, may have had to close shop or transform themselves to keep up with emerging demands," Torres said, in an interview with ZDNet Asia.

He noted that the industry is moving away from traditional online services, "forcing" these companies to transform.

Also the chairman and president of local ISP Mozcom, one of the largest Internet services companies in the Philippines, Torres said the availability of broadband and falling broadband rates have paved the way for the emergence of smaller ISPs that have overtaken their larger peers in terms of presence and customer base.

The wider availability of broadband services has proven to be a catalyst for small service providers to enter the access business, and in the process, grab a significant piece of the pie that "traditional" ISPs previously dominated, he said.

More importantly, Torres added, growing segments of the Philippine society are "discovering more and more uses" of the Internet.

"Suddenly, demand for cheaper alternatives for voice calls such as VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol), [is providing] a good source of revenues for small cafés, with more and more customers, particularly those with relatives and families abroad, discovering the technology and how easy it is to walk into a neighborhood café and make that overseas call," he said.

According to Torres, PISO projects that only a handful of ISPs still play in the access-only business, where the majority are now opting to diversify their services.

"By our own estimate, we have some 200 to 300 value-added service providers in Metro Manila alone," Torres said. More than 20 of the country's largest ISPs now offer VoIP services, including Mozcom, he added.

By PISO's unofficial estimate, Torres said there are some 1.4 million Internet subscribers in the Philippines, and 600,000 who access the Internet wirelessly.

However, he added, the actual user base could be as high as 9 million to 10 million because some of these individual subscribers may be small Internet cafés, which are "common access centers" for several other to access the Web.

Torres noted that government agency National Computer Center (NCC) is currently conducting a nationwide Internet survey, though developments are still under wraps due to the scope of the project. "The NCC survey will give us a more accurate picture on the number of Internet users, and Internet usage in the Philippines," he said.

Role of the government
Meanwhile, the Philippine government is urging for more changes in the Internet industry and calling for cyber cafés to promote Internet adoption, Torres said.

The emergence of Internet cafés as multi-purpose centers has prompted some government agencies to look these centers as possible solution to extend adoption, particularly in rural areas across the Philippines.

Torres explained: "The government's Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and a host of private associations are working hand-in-hand in encouraging more ISPs to promote access."

He added that the government is looking at establishing "e-centers", which can be deployed to allow more rural areas to have Internet access.

The task, however, is daunting, Torres said, considering that the country is an archipelago and wireless broadband access is much more expensive than fixed-line broadband.

"But for areas that can be reached by a telephone line, these multi-purpose centers will help promote access," he said.

The Philippine government said it currently has 700 community e-centers scattered nationwide.

Torres said some smaller cyber cafés can even specialize in providing only VoIP services, particularly in areas where there is a large concentration of individuals with family members working overseas.

Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

Turn me loose from your hands
Let me fly to distant lands
Over green fields, trees and mountains
Flowers and forest fountains
Home along the lanes of the skyway

For this dark and lonely room
Projects a shadow cast in gloom
And my eyes are mirrors
Of the world outside
Thinking of the way
That the wind can turn the tide
And these shadows turn
From purple into grey

For just a Skyline Pigeon
Dreaming of the open
Waiting for the day
He can spread his wings
And fly away again
Fly away skyline pigeon fly
Towards the dreams
You've left so very far behind

Just let me wake up in the morning
To the smell of new moon hay
To laugh and cry, to live and die
In the brightness of my day

I want to hear the pealing bells
Of distant churches sing
But most of all please free me
From this aching metal ring
And open out this cage towards the sun

Help & Support / How To Enjoy Tubag Bohol Songs
December 13, 2007, 06:45:53 PM
As I have announced in another thread, you can now listen to your favorite songs right here in Tubag Bohol.

But in order for you to maximize your time while listening to a particular song, it is best that you open another browser window (new tab). With this, you can read a poem or balak or news while listening to your favorite songs here in Tubag Bohol.

This works best in Mozilla Firefox browser. In Firefox, you can make multiple tabs in your browser so that you can view all your opened sites in one window. Internet Explorer version 7 allows multiple tabs, too. Just press Ctrl (control) + T and a new browser window will pop up.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) will expand its Manila-Macau-Manila operations from three times weekly to daily to meet rising demand.

Initially, the Manila-Macau service will have an additional Sunday flight beginning January 13, 2008 and will become a daily service on June 6, 2008.

Candice Iyog, CEB VP for marketing and product, said, "Our passenger loads to Macau continue to grow and we need to keep up with the rising demand. We expect this growth trend to continue partly because of our offering of trademark year round low fares plus a strong peso has made travel to Macau, and other international destinations for that matter, very affordable."

Fares to Macau start at P1,499 one way, exclusive of taxes and surcharges.

"The mounting of these additional flights will allow us to provide more options for our guests who may also opt to visit Hong Kong by flying to Macau and returning to Manila via Hong Kong and vice-versa," she added.

Narzalina Lim, General Manager of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said, "The MGTO in the Philippines congratulates CEB and welcomes their additional flights.  We will continue our partnership in promoting Macau as a tourism destination of choice to the Philippine market."

Iyog said the best way to get CEB's lowest 'Go' fares to any destination is through its website, www.cebupacificair.com.

Now in its 12th year, CEB has the youngest fleet of aircraft in the Philippines. CEB flies to 12 international and soon to be 21 domestic destinations with the addition of Boracay (Caticlan) beginning February 29, 2008.

Saying I can't hold on
There's no easy way
It gets harder each day
Please love me or I'll be gone, I'll be gone

Macky, here's the lyrics. I'm still searching for its piano chords.

ALL OUT OF LOVE

I'm lying alone with my head on the phone
Thinking of you till it hurts
I know you hurt too but what else can we do
Tormented and torn apart
I wish I could carry your smile and my heart
For times when my life feels so low
It would make me believe what tomorrow could bring
When today doesn't really know, doesn't really know

Chorus:
I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you
I know you were right believing for so long
I 'm all out of love, what am I without you
I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong

I want you to come back and carry me home
Away from this long lonely nights
I'm reaching for you, are you feeling it too
Does the feeling seem oh so right
And what would you say if I called on you now
And said that I can't hold on
There's no easy way, it gets harder each day
Please love me or I'll be gone, I'll be gone

Chorus

Oh, what are you thinking of?
What are you thinking of?
Oh, what are you thinking of?
What are you thinking of?

Chorus(3x)
