Thanks and kudos to you Mike.  Will check the link.  Libre ba ang hosting adto ug pila pud ang free space ?   I used to develop dynamic webpages (server scripting) using javascript and ASP.  Those were the days when I  had still the enthusiasm for web scripting.  Medyo kapoy na magdevelop kay tiguls na lage.    ;D

I'm into business system applications and abap/4 programming right now  (SAP ERP).

US can wait: 2 top nurses opt to serve here

March 21, 2009 03:29:00
Ma. Cecilia Rodriguez
Philippine Daily Inquirer

...
“It’s [one way of] giving back to the country,” said Pasimio, a nursing graduate from Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) here. She ranked No. 5 in the latest Nursing Licensure Examination, which could help her land a job abroad. But the global recession and its looming adverse effects on the Philippines changed her mind.

“I’m sure many others like me want to go abroad,” she said. “But for now, I would like to serve my countrymen in the rural areas.”

Crystal Mae Sabela, another nursing graduate of XU who placed No. 9 in the last board exams, said serving the country was one of the first things she learned in nursing school.

Bible Study / Something to reflect this holy week

Desiderata
by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be
greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career
however humble;
it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit
to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham,
drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy

Sir/M'am Insurectus, abe nako ug naa amigas (ant) aho screen tungod sa imong avatar.  Nibagay pud sa imong handle.  hehe.   :)

Anyway, my point is before clicking the link say by hovering the mouse on that link (be it URL text or image),  the user can simply tell whether it is a legitimate or valid website by looking  at the status bar below.   The actual hyperlink could not be the same as the URL text embedded in the email.   AND even if I click that link and being fetched to the "fake website",  I still believe that it is still a better practice not to input any sensitive information like password, CC#, etc.  on that site.  This is the same as "dont even attempt" to open an email attachment from the sender whom you don't know.   He has to verify either by email or by phone with the (financial) institution that he/she is a member of.  One of anti-phising solutions is what they called "social re-engineering".  Meaning, there has to be a public awareness about  "phising" or in layman's phrase - gathering sensitive informations through a fake website.

By the way, though I have still to check this,  some link images could not be right click by the mouse like macro media images (flash).

My two cents,

US senators to limit IT migrant workers to US

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"(UPDATE) Two United States senators are seeking to limit migrant information technology professionals to the US who are allowed through the H1-B visa program, it was learned Monday.

The H-1B visa program allows American companies and universities to employ temporary migrant workers who have the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree in a job category that is considered by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services to be a "specialty occupation," often in high-tech industry. Supporters say the H-1B program helps the American economy by allowing companies to hire needed foreign workers.

According to recruitment expert Emmanuel Geslani, the cap for IT and health service professionals this year is set at 85,000 H-1B visas. He said Asians, mostly Indians, usually get most of the visas.
However, US Senators Richard Durbin (Democrat-Illinois) and Charles Grassley (Republican-Iowa) want to review US immigration policy that they say might be taking American jobs from Americans.
“The reality is that too many H-1B visas are being used to facilitate the outsourcing of American jobs to other countries. Some employers have abused the H-1B program, using it to bypass qualified Americans,” Durbin said in a statement posted on his website.

“I want to set up safeguards for American workers, and provide much-needed oversight and enforcement of employers who fail to abide by the law. Our immigration policy should seek to complement our US workforce, not replace it,” he added.
For his part, Grassley wants to put on hold any increases in the quota for H1-B visas.
“We can’t let powerful outside interests cloud our view of the harsh reality that highly skilled Americans are being passed over for jobs for cheaper, foreign labor,” he said on his website.
“I’m in favor of the program but believe that reforms need to be made so the H-1B program can be a benefit for US businesses and American workers,” he added.

The two senators have thus written the top 25 companies that have received approved H-1B visa petitions in 2007, asking them detailed information on how they used the visa program. These companies were responsible for nearly 20,000 of the available H-1B visas last year.
“The H-1B program can’t be allowed to become a job-killer in America. We need to ensure that firms are not misusing these visas, causing American workers to be unfairly deprived of good high-skill jobs here at home,” Durbin said.

Their letter dated April 1, 2009, was sent to the following companies: Infosys Technologies Ltd., Wipro Limited, Satyam Computer Services Ltd., Cognizant Tech Solutions, Microsoft  Corporation, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Patni Computer Systems Inc., US Technology Resources LLC, I-Flex Solutions Inc., Intel Corporation, Accenture LLP, Cisco Systems Inc., Ernst & Young LLP, Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd., Deloitte & Touche LLP, Google Inc., Mphasis Corporation, University of Illinois at Chicago, American Unit Inc., Jsmn International Inc., Objectwin Technology Inc., Deloitte Consulting, Prince Georges County Public Schools, JPMorgan Chase  and Co., and Motorola Inc.

Bedo,

You ask very important questions, and are insightful, my friend.

Yes, I agree with you that the United States clearly has multiple hurdles to tackle, including the global economic situation (but I remain positive and optimistic considering the successful dialogue in the G20 meetings).

Illegal immigration is an issue to be addressed because it addresses the failures of the border system, to which is imperative for national security for the United States, and these instances have to be addressed by the INS and associated governmental agencies.

We understand the dreams of people to come here to the United States, but formalities should be followed, and should be followed by lawful means. As to follow the law, afterall, is biblical. But, I concede to the fact that yes, Filipino, Vietnamese, Indian and Chinese immigrants that came to the United States through illegal and unlawful means mostly are educated. That is the difference, when we analyze the situation in the ground, thus we notice differences treatment.

Believe it or not, most of the 100,000+ Illegal Indian-immigrants are people who came to United States via a visa and or green card, but overstayed, the reason why the United States is far more lenient to them and Filipinos is due to the fact that these individuals are educated and have college degrees (Bachelor's, masters and even doctoral). They contribute to the overall American Economic Machine, and even in the education processes.

The problem we have and we observe, is the some 20~ million undocumented illegal latin americans who neither have education and have little to no knowledge in English. Please note that yes, the resiliency of the Filipno is oundoubted. They master english, they assimilate to the culture, and they follow means and measure to become legal immigrants despite the fact that yes they did come to the country illegally. They acquire green cards, and resident visa status, and ultimately, through time and through paying taxes, are granted Citizenship.

The drug trafficking situation here in the United States is a result of the porous border between the United States of America and Mexico; and due to the fact that there is not enough national guardsmen presence in the border and due to the vastness of the border, has led and facilitated the massive, massive migration of latin americans to the United States. Many of whom have no education, many of whom don't know english, many of whom are rebels, many of whom are drug traffickers, many of whom are prostitutes, etc.

As I said, this situation is complex, and cannot be answered by simplistic means, but requires the reader's diligence and research into the situation on the ground.

It is definitely a problem that must be addressed, and I hope and pray that the Obama Administration solve this problem.

Bay Lorenzo,

Asa naba tong akong gi post earlier nawala man!  Basin nasalaag to sa joke section.  haha. Anyway, kini ato mga opinion ra man ni.  Hinaut unta nga dili nato ni e personal ang mga tubag dinhe.

Anyway, the tone of your post is a typical american to me. Something that maybe taken out of context and can be construed as "selfish" comment coming from a "once" filipino (?) hehe.   You nailed it and that's the way it should be and should be controlled if not totally eliminate the influx of undocumented people coming to america.   For me personally I was stunned when you said "its a virus and it should be crushed".  Mura man pud ug atong gilubong ang mga damggo sa mga nag tnt na diri.   But to be honest,  I have high respect for these individuals.  Why?  They survive everyday and sacrificed a lot,  deprived from the benefits a regular american citizen workers have especially medical benefits.

Sige bay ayo ayo, keep posting and happy weekend.  Manglaba pa ko.   ;D

And it infuriates me to know that every year, about $29 Billion is spent on things that should be spent for the needs of American students.

Every year, the United States over 2.5 Billion dollars to imprison illegal immigrants who broke American laws. And when they are in prison, they eat, they sleep, watch tv, all of which cost US Dollars.

And where do these dollars come from?

Answer: American Tax Payer Money. :)

It all comes down, YET AGAIN, to the American Tax Payer. The embattled Middle Class.

Bay Lorenzo,

I enjoyed reading and learning a lot from your post.  You must be a wide reader.

So are you saying that partly to be blamed for americas (economic) struggle now adays is due to illegal immigrants?  Well the truth and reality hurts for the american tax payers given the current situation in the US.  But as a Filipino, I am suddened if part of those illegal immigrants are Filipinos.   I know some of our kababayans (even my relatives) who struggled for so many years at the start before becoming a legal immigrants in the US.

On a higher perspective, could it be that america is spending so much budget on foreign militarization (and invasion) forgetting other issues like affordable college education for its citizens?  Just asking.

Sa mga nag inquire, here's my final tips:

1.   Arrive a day ahead prior to the day of your interview.
2.   Get a hotel near the US embassy.  There's no substitute for a relax and fresh applicant coming to the embassy than an applicant coming from far places  trying to catch his/her schedule interview time.  An interview schedule time of 12:30  (or pre-processing schedule) usually got their actual interview time past 3 or 4 pm.
3.   Familiarize the place (US embassy).  Observe how people get in for their turn.  The lines are visible at the outside.  Do not take pictures!  You might be caught by the surveilance camera or by the guards/police manning US embassy premises.
4.   If you arrive a day ahead, try to review documents including the photo copy of forms DS 156 & 157 with your family members (family applicants).  Naay yellow cab resto, starbucks ug Chowking accross the embassy.
5.   Relax and do an early stroll/jog at the nearby vicinity (baywalk or luneta).
6.   There's a miraculous/oldest church in Ermita at the back of bayview hotel (Ermita Church).  You may get final blessing from the heavenly.   :)
7.   Dress appropriately.  I've seen applicant in plain t-shirt (w/o colar).  Some male applicants are in black suit.  Some have pins in their tie with this sign "I love America".   :)   Some have large media ids.
8.   On the day of your interview schedule say 12:30 noon,  be at the embassy 11:30 in the morning.  You may bring bottled water and pamaypay kay init sa embassy pavillion.  There's a canteen inside the pavillion.
9.   On the waiting area, try to get and listen to advises from 2nd timer applicants.  They will surely share their experiences before.
10.   Leave your cellphones at the hotel.  You may take the risk of leaving them to  "people outside" the embassy for keeping your mobile phones at  Ps 250.   :-\
11. Keep positive.  Keep saying to yourself that you can do it.  Dako ang gasto dapat maka pasar ka !   Hehe

Good luck mga kaibigan !!!   Do your best, God will do the rest !!!

Where to stay in Manila for the scheduled interview :

There's a nice hotel accross and a stone throw away from the US embassy.  The Bayview Park Hotel.   Price ranging from Ps 3K+ a day.

Hi BnC,

Basin natunong sya sa windows 3 & 5.    :) j/k.

Only the applicant can tell exactly what happened during the interview.  There might be a good reason why she was denied.  Maybe a supporting documentation discrepancies (invitation, etc)  or the the officer was not satisfied with the answers during the interview.   In a day, the number of applicants can go as high as 3,000 +.

Anyway, here are the steps or flow during the day of interview :

Found this image via google.

1.  Validating and confirming scheduled applicants  (sa gawas na linya).  Applicants are segregated according to the type of visa application.  Something that look like this I found in google. Notice the bayview park hotel at the backgroun.

2.  Waiting or holding area.  Found this via google.  I wonder how the taker of this photo managed to get a shot inside or within the US embassy premises.

3.  Entry to the US embassy compound.  Electronic gadgets especially cellphones are not allowed inside.

4.  Proceed to the embassy pavillion for the pre-screening and getting priority number.

5.  Electronic finger (excluding thumb) printing  (both hands,  left hand fingers,  right hand fingers).  These will be matched on the actual entry to the US.  The applicant including children must appear at the window and will be asked by an officer with the following :

  • Can you state your name please?
  • When is your birthday? / How old are you?
  • Place both hands on scanning machine please
  • left hand fingers
  • Right hand fingers

The machine is something like this (image courtesy of google)

6.  Back to the pavillion area and wait for the batch or series of priority numbers to be called.  A video guide will be shown on LCD/TV screens.
7.  Proceed to US consular office.
8.  An electronic screens (pareho sa mga bangko) or billboard where your priority number with the corresponding window #  will be displayed.
9.  For approved applicants, go back to the pavillion and pay the courier fee of Ps 250 each per applicant.  I understand, air21 replaces Delbros and it is less than Ps 250.   Allow three (3) working days to receive your processed passports.

Found this sample for processed passport via google.
Usually a 10 yr. multiple entry is granted.

Sa mga walay suerte, adto baklay gamay sa luneta pa relax or sa baywalk.  ;D

Okay, good luck !

although she passed in the 2nd try and was allowed to leave for 3 month training in the US. after the company she's working sent a letter to the consul about the purpose.

Jokes and Humor / Husband and Wife
April 01, 2009, 03:31:56 PM

A woman comes home and tells her husband, 'Remember those headaches I've  been having.

All these years? Well, they're gone.'

'No more headaches?' the husband asks, 'What happened?'

His wife replies, 'Margie referred me to a hypnotist & he told me to stand  in front of a mirror,  Stare at myself and repeat,

' I do not have a headache '
' I do not have a headache '
' I do not have a headache '

Well, it worked! The headaches are all gone.'

Well, that is wonderful' proclaims the husband.
His wife then says, 'You know, you haven't been exactly a ball of fire in  the bedroom these last few years, why don't you go see the hypnotist and  see if he can do anything for that? '

Reluctantly, the husband agrees to try it.

Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes,  picks up his wife and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed  and says, 'Don't move, I'll be right back.'

He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later and jumps into  bed and makes passionate love to his wife like never before.

His wife says, 'WOW! - that was wonderful!'

The husband says, 'Don't move! I will be right back.'

He goes back into the bathroom, comes back and round two was even better  than the first time.

The wife sits up and her head is spinning ' OH MY GOD ' She proclaims.

Her husband again says, 'Don't move, I'll be right back.'

With that, he goes back in the bathroom.

This time, his wife quietly follows him and there, in the bathroom, she  sees him standing at the mirror and saying.

'She's not my wife '
'She's not my wife '
'She's not my wife ' .
'She's not my wife '

His funeral service will be held on Saturday.

Sir Aduy, salamat sa mga tips. Talagang totoo ang mga nabanggit mo dito.

Meron din akong kaibigan. Nag apply sila as a family.

Though coaching takes a lot of your time and not even charging them for a single penny, I enjoyed and happy that all of them passed.

The success of every applicant depends on how ready he/she is in terms of what to expect during the interview.  This depends on the applicant's current state of living, profession and how he/she would project himself throughout the interview and for me this is the very important part of the interview process.  You have to be organized in terms of documents, the way you approach the cubicle and of course how you dress yourself.

Before my interview, I was told that the normal questions would be between 3 to 5 questions but that did not happen to us as a family  (wife and kid).  The officer asked us a total of 20 questions which boiled down to why we did not have a single travel outside the philippines.  I was advised by our friends to take a trip to hongkong so that our passports would have a stamp on it.  In our case I did not.  You're right.  You have to be "palaban".  You have to assert and give precise and striking reasons for every question that you think you and the consul reach denial point for your application.

Anticipate questions that you think might be asked during the interview and of course use your common sense.

I have coached a second client (family) and this is what transpired on their actual interview:

Officer    :  What do you do for a living sir?
Husband:  I'm a businessman involved in importation of industrial equipment.
Officer    :  How long you've been running this business?
Husband:  Five (5) years.
...
Officer    :  What's your daugther up to?
Husband:  She's a 2nd yr. student at *****  taking up business administration
Officer    :  Good that she's not a nursing student.  Congratulations! You're application has been approved.  Pay this at DelBros.

+----

In my case,  I was repeatedly asked by this question?

Officer    :   You have a good job in ***** and I'm wondring why you haven't made a single trip outside the phils. and now you want to travel to the US?

Answer  :   To be honest, I can make a trip to Hongkong or any asean countries but for what?  I have no interest in any of these places.  Our trip would be memorable if we'll go to the US because I have sister and relatives there.  Besides, we would like to celebrate what is christmas in the US!

The officer proceeded to another question and asked me again of our old passports.  After so many follow-up questions, I heard him saying our application has been approved.
:)

Anyway, these are just examples of possible questions that the officer might ask and would you believe that as long as your application is in place and organized with no conflicts and discrepancies, the US consular office will give the applicant a chance to be interviewed, otherwise, the applicant will not be given a chance to be interviewed and that's how important that the applicant has properly prepared the necessary documents as these undergo a pre-screening.

If the applicant thinks that he/she will be denied then "prepare all the lies" that you think will save you from being denied a tourist visa.  Take this case for example:

Officer:  What do you do madam?
Wife   :  I'm a sunday school teacher in our church receiving an honorarium of Ps 5,000 a month.

The couple was granted a 10 yr. multiple entry. Fortunately,  the wife is a registered nurse.  Unfortunately, the sister of the wife who said she's a nurse who applied that same day and she was denied.
  :(

Now adays, family applicants are most likely granted a visa compared to a single individual.  Would you believe that with these bulk of documents the applicants are bringing, NOT A SINGLE DOCUMENT has been asked?   :)

I'm maybe ranting too long. Hanggang sa susunod.

Okay here you go.

General Steps:

Do the following:

1.  Form DS-157   -  can be obtained from any designated BDO branch in your area by paying $ 131 / applicant.    Form will be accomplished manually or handwritten.  Formerly, this form was obtained from BPI.

2.  Form DS-156   -  can be accomplished at  http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhnv15.html   .  Form should be accomplished electronically (ADOBE).

3.  Schedule an appointment at visapoint  at   http://philippines.us-visaservices.com/Forms/default.aspx

Here, you will buy a $10 pin # so you can make an interview appointment online.  -or- the applicant can call via phone for his/her interview schedule.

For complete guide, visit here  http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3024.html

EVIDENCE OF TIES

Ties are the aspects of one’s life that bind him or her to his or her place of residence, including family relationships, employment and possessions. In the case of younger applicants, who may not have had an opportunity to establish such ties, interviewing officers may look at educational status, grades, the situation of their parents, and the applicant's long-range plans and prospects in the Philippines. As each person's situation is different, there is no set answer as to what constitutes adequate ties.  The interviewing consular officer may request supporting documents during the interview. Be prepared to present evidence of the applicant’s or the applicant’s parents’ (if the applicant is a minor) ties and financial status in the Philippines such as :

  • Bank statements for the last three (3) months and both current and former bank account passbooks
  • Employment certification including salary, tenure and position
  • Form W-2
  • Income tax return with Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) or bank stamp
  • Audited financial statement with BIR or bank stamp
  • Pay slips for the last three (3) months
  • Credit card statements for the prior three months
  • Vehicle registration with official receipt
  • Land titles (no certified copies please)
  • Pictures of family, home or business
  • Wedding photos
  • Marriage certificate printed on the Philippine National Statistics Office security paper, if applicable
  • Birth certificate printed on the Philippine National Statistics Office security paper
  • For students, certificate of school registration
  • Certification of membership to legitimate organization(s)

EARLY ARRIVAL AT THE EMBASSY FOR VISA INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT

Applicants are requested to come to the Embassy an hour earlier than their appointment time in order for the Embassy to process their applications prior to interview. Applicants who appear an hour or more after their scheduled appointment time will not be granted access to the Consular Section (absent dire circumstances). Those applicants will then be required to book a new appointment for interview online or through the Call Center.

Travel and Tours / Applying for a US Tourist Visa?
March 31, 2009, 01:27:39 PM
Hi,

I am helping my fellow boholanos especially first time applicants for US tourist visa for FREE.   What to prepare, what to bring and how to appear and answer possible questions during the interview.  I have assisted 4 clients last year (mostly friends and acquaintances) and salamat they were granted 10 years multiple entry to the US.

Note:   I am not an expert on this but I'm just sharing my experience with you mga sanas / sanos.

Hi Sir Mike,

Murag naa man ni reality ni nga result.   As of kanus-a man ni nga survey?

Maayo unta naa literacy survey.  IMHO, usually ang poverty is driven by lack of education.
