installing harpoons in BRP Gregorio del Pilar and the another coming WHEC is 100 percent possible. WHEC Mellon is the first Hamilton Class ship to fire a Harpoon Missile.

I concur with you, Green. The installation of Harpoons on the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar as well as on the three Peacock-Class Corvettes would augment the firepower and projection capability of the Philippine Surface Fleet. In addition, if we could install antisubmarine torpedoes onto the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar , then this would negate any further "chinese submarine threat" in the future.

acquiring two hamilton class ships, delivery of 8 sokol combat helicopters to replace our aging hueys, and the plan of acquiring a squadron of f16s or any multirole fighter are good signs that the aquino administration is serious in modernizing the AFP. The current status of Philippine Airforce is in sorry state, where we dont have a supersonic capability, with only trainer subsonic s211, C-130s, crashing OV 10s, nomads in our plane inventory. In our current state where we dont have enough capable ships to patrol the west philippine sea, we must also consider installing radar system in our occupied spratly islands, putting land based missile batteries in palawan, hidden in a container van system. I think chinese will hesitate intruding our territory upon knowing that we have missile batteries installed in palawan facing the recto bank, where it is believe to have a vast oil or gas deposits dwarfing the current malampaya.

It is about time that the Philippine Air Force upgrades its inventory to current 4th generation fighters. For a while , prior to its being mothballed, the Philippine Air Force was powered by the F-5 Tiger IIs, however, ever since its being mothballed in 2005-2006, the PAF was practically "airless".

It behooves me that it took foreign pressure and foreign forays into Philippine territory eg, Chinese Naval Encroachment, to bolster and to spearhead the Philippine Modernization Plan to fruition. Had the Philippine Government and the Military Departments taken this seriously years before, we would not be in this weak military position.

Nevertheless, better late than never.

A much needed update for the Philippine Air Force !
#14942
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga ,Philippines  â€" The Philippine Air Force (PAF) launched here yesterday its first four Polish helicopters, each costing P700 million, which look like the vintage US-made Hueys but are reputed to be “much better.”

Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol said the four W-3A Sokol helicopters comprise the first batch of eight choppers, costing a total of P2.8 billion, for operation this year under the military’s modernization program.

The last four helicopters would be in operation by November this year, he said.

The Sokol has been described as a combat-utility helicopter. The first four were turned over yesterday to the 205th Tactical Operations Wing.

Okol said the four Sokol helicopters, whose blessing here yesterday was led by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, arrived last month via the giant Russian cargo plane AN-126 and were fitted with their rotor blades.

“The helicopter looks like a Huey but it is much better than our Hueys because they have two engines, have better lift capacity, can carry more passengers, and have more depth in terms of range,” Okol said.

The Sokol helicopters were the first to be fully designed by the Polish firm PZL-Swidnik, in cooperation with the Italian manufacturer Augusta Westland Co., and have certifications from the European Safety Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration.

Okol said the Sokol helicopter allows “quick aircraft configuration” to adapt to various missions such as transport of troops and cargo. It could also be transformed to suit emergency medical missions, evacuations and search and rescue operations.

A Sokol helicopter can accommodate two pilots, two crew personnel, and nine passengers.

Converted for rescue mission, it has enough space for two pilots, two crewmen, three medical attendants and six rescued survivors, while as air borne ambulance, it can accommodate four medical stretchers and medical attendant apart from the pilots and crewmen, Okol noted.

The Sokol is 48.8 feet long and 16.10 feet tall, with a speed of 260 kilometers per hour capable of traveling non-stop for 4.3 hours on standard fuel tank or 6.7 hours with auxiliary tanks.

I hope that in the future, the Philippine Air Force will be able to acquire 4-5 squadrons of F-16s, and establish proper radar systems throughout the entire Philippines. No foreign power would dare enter Philippine Air and Naval Territory or be obliterated by our air superiority fighters. :)

The newest ship and the flag ship of the Philippine Navy is the BRP Gregorio Pilar, which is an American Cutter Frigate that served for the United States Coast Guard. It is one of the largest ships of the American Coast Guard.

The Philippine Navy is currently purchasing guided missile platforms as well as to augment the ship's defense capability. The Philippine Navy is to receive another Cutter Frigate from the United States Navy this year; by the end of 2012. These two ships will enhance the fighting and defensive capability of the Philippine Navy quite substantially.

When the Philippine Air Force receives a squadron of F-16s, it will be better capable of patrolling its national air space and deter any air, naval as well as ground threat.

The Air Force will also be better capable in executing precision strikes on any military threat.

MANILA, Philippines - The United States has expressed willingness to help the Philippines obtain a squadron of F-16 jet fighters to improve its defense capability, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said yesterday.

Del Rosario clarified, however, that this would not mean stationing of US naval vessels in the Philippines.

He admitted there is a plan to station US navy ships in the region but stationing them in the country was not discussed.

“It has not come up yet. What the US discussed with us is we see foreign policy of US for Asia and the Pacific. They are repositioning and re-balancing. They want to re-engage with Asia. The region has become a key driver in global politics,” Del Rosario said.

“They (US) discussed with us the cooperation with stationing 2,500 (troops) and two ships in Singapore but we did not discuss anything for the Philippines, except assistance to improve our capability... I do not think at this point it is being discussed. We are still in the process of refining the VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement),” he said.

Del Rosario and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin will visit the US in February or March to meet with their counterparts.

Del Rosario said the US is ready to help improve the Philippines’ defense capability.

“We are trying to get the assistance of several countries to be able to take minimum and credible defense posture and the US expressed willingness to help us with two Hamilton-class cutters, and the second one is coming. We are also trying to obtain a squadron of F-16s under defense articles,” he said.

Del Rosario said the vessels and F-16s the Philippines would like to obtain were discussed with US officials, including US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“We actually discussed it already. We identified (the items) when I went to the US for the first meeting with Secretary Clinton. At the time I said we need to stand up and defend what we believe is ours and they said they would be willing to help,” Del Rosario said.

“My definition of squadron is 12 fighter jets (of) F16. This is a request and I was told it is being considered,” he said.

During her visit to Manila last month, Clinton delivered a strong message of assurance and support to the Philippines in protecting its maritime domain and improving territorial defense.

Although Clinton did not mention China, she vowed military support for the Philippines as she delivered a strong US statement from the deck of an American warship that arrived in Manila for her visit.

The territorial conflict and heightened tensions between China and the Philippines over the resource-rich West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) remain a critical factor in bilateral relations between the two neighbors.

Clinton said that as the Philippines moves to improve its territorial defense, the US is considering transferring a second patrol ship to help protect maritime domain.

Clinton said the US is now updating all its alliances in the region based on three guidelines.

She said the US is working to ensure that the core objectives of its alliances have the political support of the people.

Washington wants its alliances to be nimble, adoptive and flexible to continue to deliver results in this new world.

Clinton said the US will ensure that its collective defense capabilities and communications infrastructure are operationally and materially capable of deterring provocation.

She said the US is considering providing another vessel to the Philippines “as you move to improve your territorial defense and interdiction capability.”

The Philippines formally accepted in May a US Coast Guard Hamilton-class cutter acquired by the government through the US Foreign Military Sales program.

The cutter officially became the BRP Gregorio del Pilar and is the largest patrol ship in the Philippine Navy arsenal.

Del Rosario said in June that he submitted to the Pentagon the country’s “wish list” of military equipment to strengthen its capability in securing its maritime territory.

The list of equipment was determined by the Department of National Defense (DND) during a meeting with Del Rosario before he visited Washington. He confirmed that the list is for the maritime needs of the country.

According to Del Rosario, the Pentagon would send a team to Manila this year to look into the Philippines’ requirements for maritime security.

Washington has provided the Philippines $53 million for coast watch since 2007.

During his talks with Del Rosario at the Pentagon on June 24, former US Defense secretary Robert Gates expressed readiness to strengthen the Philippines’ capability in securing its maritime territory.

In a separate meeting by Del Rosario with US National Director for Intelligence (NDI) James Clapper, the US official pledged to enhance the NDI’s intelligence-sharing with the Philippines to heighten the latter’s maritime situational awareness and surveillance in the West Philippine Sea.

Del Rosario conveyed to US defense officials that to complement the Excess Defense Articles (EDA), which the US traditionally turns over to the Philippines, he is exploring an option to access newer US military assets.

In response, US Defense Undersecretary for Policy Michelle Fluornoy said, “We would be happy to have our team look into the full range of requirements (for maritime security).”

She added: “We should not allow this perception that you are alone and we are not behind you.”

Clapper emphasized the US “has a long association” with the Philippines and “we’ll do whatever we can to help” even as he expressed concern over the recent incidents in the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippines conveyed to the US the country’s resolve to strengthen its capabilities to defend its maritime territory because it is “prepared to do what is necessary to stand up to any aggression in its backyard” amid the rising tension in the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippine government’s preparedness to take action in the territorial dispute was conveyed during a meeting of Del Rosario and Clinton at the State Department on June 23.

Del Rosario and Clinton discussed the situation in the West Philippine Sea, and shared the view that the recent incidents there are a source of concern and could undermine regional peace and stability.

The two officials agreed to consult closely on ways to protect their shared interest in maintaining freedom of navigation, respect for international law, and unimpeded lawful commerce in the West Philippine Sea.

Del Rosario emphasized during the meeting the Philippine government’s resolve to strengthen its capabilities to defend its maritime territory “because the Philippines is prepared to do what is necessary to stand up to any aggressive action in our backyard.”

Green,

The United States of America is finalizing its sale of a squadron of American F-16 Air Superiority Fighter to the Philippines. America will not allow China to gain an upper hand in the South China Sea (Western Philippine Sea) because of the strategic value of that sea lane; over 1/3rd of the world's merchant fleet traverses that checkpoint. China's military presence and bullying of the Philippines is the catalyst of the Robust Philippine Military Modernization.

It took an external threat of China to change Philippine Military Strategy from focusing primarily on "inward" policy to "outward policy". About Time.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. will soon give a second Coast Guard cutter to the Philippines as part of efforts to boost the ally’s military amid tensions at sea with China, officials said Tuesday.

The U.S. last year transferred its Hamilton cutter to the Philippines, which made it the flagship of its notoriously dilapidated navy and recently sent it on a mission to the disputed Spratly islands.

Lawmakers will this week conclude formalities to send to the former U.S. colony another cutter, the Dallas, Representative Ed Royce and senior Pentagon official Peter Lavoy told a congressional hearing.

“It should soon be on its way to Manila,” said Royce, a Republican from southern California whose district has a significant Filipino American community.

“The U.S. and the Philippines want peace and stability in this region, which is key to the global economy,” Royce said as he chaired the hearing of a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee.

The Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries have accused China of bellicose behavior over disputes in the South China Sea. Despite historical sensitivities about U.S. troops, the Philippines has said it would welcome further rotations by U.S. forces on its soil and more joint exercises.

Lavoy, the top civilian at the Pentagon handling East Asia, said that the U.S. was “considering a range of military capabilities” as it helps the Philippines move from “an inward focus on domestic threats to an outwardly focused military that needs to be reorganized to address external concerns.”

But Lavoy was noncommittal when asked whether the U.S. would be willing to provide F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines, saying it was critical to look at affordability and other factors.

Kurt Campbell, the assistant secretary of state for East Asia, said that cooperation also depended on human rights. Congress has blocked $3 million due to concerns over extrajudicial killings by the Philippine military.

“Although the pace of killings has declined, trying and convicting perpetrators remains an ongoing challenge,” Campbell told the hearing.

But Campbell praised Philippine President Benigno Aquino for addressing human rights and other U.S. concerns, including human trafficking.

THREE Chinese ships were monitored to have intruded at a shoal inside the country’s territory in disputed Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea last month, Navy officials said yesterday.

Navy chief Vice Adm. Alexander Pama confirmed the Chinese intrusion shortly after the Department of Foreign Affairs announced it had filed a diplomatic protest against Beijing for the incident.

Two warships were spotted by patrolling units of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao last December 11 at the Sabina Shoal, about 113 km northwest of Palawan.

Lt. Col. Omar Tonsay, Navy spokesman, said another Chinese ship was seen in the same area though it was "not clear in the report" if it was a warship.

"As observed, the vessels were apparently surveying the area and appeared to be merely passing through. No other activities or untoward acts were reported as the vessels immediately departed the area and no further sightings were monitored in the days that followed," said Tonsay.

Pama said Navy units tried to "challenge" or chase the Chinese ships but they sped away. "What happened there was like a cat and mouse (act)," said Pama.

Pama said Sabina Shoal is near the Reed Bank where two Chinese ships harassed a Department of Energy ship involved in oil exploration in March last year. The DFA had also filed a diplomatic protest over that incident.

Pama likened Sabina Shoal to Scarborough Shoal â€" off Zambales which is disputed by China and the Philippines. He said the two shoals can hardly be seen during high tide but portions can be seen during low tide.

"It’s way inside our EEZ (exclusive economic zone)," said Pama of Sabina Shoal.

Asked how the Navy is taking the latest incursion by China, Pama said: "We expect those things to happen, that’s why our Navy units are vigilant…What usually happens three is cat and mouse (play)," he said.

In October last year, a Navy ship chased a Chinese fishing boat off Reed Bank. The Chinese boat scampered, leaving a number of small boats it was towing, one of them was accidentally rammed by the Navy ship.

Pama said the DFA filed the diplomatic protest against China, "being consistent that that’s (Sabina Shoal) part of our territory. They filed the protest so they (Chinese) won’t be used to it," he also said.

"I’m sure their (China) answer, their line, is that that is part of their territory…It seems," said Pama, adding that the Chinese ships involved in the incursion "appear to be patrolling, appear to be surveying."

Philippines, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei are claiming in part or in whole the Spratlys, a chain of islands and islets believed to be rich in oil and minerals deposits. Of the claimant-countries, China is militarily the strongest.

The DFA said that it "conveyed to the Chinese Embassy’s charge d’affaires its serious concerns over recent actions of the People’s Republic of China in the West Philippine Sea."

According to Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. Domingo, the intrusions are clearly against international laws and treaties. â€" With Antonio de los Reyes

By Nimfa U. Rueda in Los Angeles/Philippine Daily Inquirer | Asia News Network â€" 22 hours ago

Los Angeles (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - Filipinos are now the second largest Asian group in the United States, according to the latest census bureau report.

The number of Americans who have identified themselves as Filipino, either alone or in combination with another race, totalled 3.4 million, the report showed.

The total number is believed to be much higher than the census count. There are an estimated one million undocumented Filipinos in the United States.

Chinese-Americans make up the largest Asian group, with more than 4 million. Those from the Indian subcontinent are the third largest, with 3.2 million. Other significantly large Asian groups include the Vietnamese, with 1.7 million; Koreans, with 1.7 million, and the Japanese, with 1.3 million.

This statistical profile was based on the 2010 census of major racial and ethnic groups in the United States. Released on March 22, the statistical portrait of the Asian-American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations was produced for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually in May.

The report also showed that Asians were the fastest growing population, increasing nearly 46 percent over the last decade. Their number increased to more than 17 million from 2000 to 2010. A close second was the Latino population, which rose by 43 per cent. By comparison, the African American and white populations grew by only 15 per cent and 7 per cent, respectively.

Census officials attributed the fast growth of the Asian population to immigration.

California, known as the gateway for Asian immigrants, had the largest population of Asian Americans, with close to 6 million, or nearly a third of the total nationwide. It was followed by New York, with 1.6 million. Hawaii had the highest percentage of Asians, who make up 57 per cent of the island state's population.

The report showed that the Asian population grew dramatically in other states, such as Nevada, where the number rose by 116 per cent, and Arizona, by 95 per cent.

Among metropolitan areas, New York City had the largest Asian population, with more than 1 million, followed by Los Angeles, with 484,000, and San Jose, with 347,000.

Filipinos are the largest Asian group in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Washington, Wyoming and South Dakota. The Chinese made up the largest Asian group in Colorado, Oregon, Utah, District of Columbia, North Dakota, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

This number does not include the Mixed Filipino-Americans. There are millions more of Americans who have some Filipino blood. Filipino blood is part of the fabric of American society, ergo, American Medical System. LOL.

This video is not much escabeche (home-made sweet and sour) than kinamatisan (tagalog's salciado, i.e., with scrambled eggs). I think my mom made some adaptation whenever she cooked for us when we were kids... labi na kay 10 mi kabuok mga anak, mas daghan ug sabaw hehehe.  :D

Father, I did not know there your parents had 10 kids! Wow! I bet your mom cooked the escabeche really good eh? :)

My dad makes a pretty awesome escabeche too, it tastes just like the ones that his mom used to make.

After sex women still love to be kissed:

Men always feel tired and prefer to sleep after sex, but women don't. They like to talk, fool around, and kiss each other. For a great relationship, men should take note of this.

hahaha! ka ingon ko everyone loves to be kissed after the bold exercise. :)

Guardian Angels - How Do We Know We Have Them?

We know we have a guardian angel from the teachings of the Church herself, based both on the Old and New Testaments and Tradition, from the writings of the Doctors of the Church. We have assurance from the mouth of Jesus who stated: "See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels always see the face of my Father who is in Heaven!" (Matthew 18:10).

Scripture adds: "For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways." (Psalm 90:11). And in the book of Exodus we learn that in addition to our guardian , the good Lord often assigns other angels to help in particular situations. In given certain rules to the children of Israel, God told them: "Behold I will send my angel, who shall go before thee and keep thee in thy journey, and bring thee into the place that I have prepared. Take notice of him , and hear his voice, and do not think him one to be contemned: for he will not forgive when thou hast sinned, and my name is in him. But if thou wilt hear his voice, and do all that I speak, I will be an enemy to thy enemies, and will afflict them that afflict thee." (Exodus 23: 20-22).

In the Acts of the Apostles St. Paul had  a vision of his guardian angel, who appeared and prophesied when the ship on which the Saint was sailing as a prisoner was caught in a terrible tempest that lasted for days. Scripture relates that afterward, Paul spoke to those on board in this way: "And now I exhort you to be of good cheer. For there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but only of the ship. For an angel of God , whose I am, and whom I serve, stood by me this night , saying : "Fear Not, Paul, thou must be brought before Caesar; and behold, God hath given thee all of them that sail with thee." (Acts 27: 22-24).

The Bible represents the Angels not only as our guardians, but also as actually interceding for us and offering our prayers to God. St. Raphael the Archangel addressed these words to Tobias: "When thou didst pray with tears, and dist bury the dead, and dist leave thy dinner, and hide the dead by day in thy  house, and bury them by night, I offered thy prayer to the Lord." (Tobit 12: 12).

St. Paul in writing about the guardian angels explains, " Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to minister for them, who shall receive the inheritance of Salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14)

Other Archangels

Since the Archangel Raphael revealed himself to Tobias with the words, "I am Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the Lord." (Tobit 12:16), and since Michael and Gabriel are identified also as archangels, many have wondered about the identity of the other four archangels mentioned by Raphael. The four remaining angels "who stand before the Lord" are said to have the names Urie, Raguel, Sariel, and Jeremiel, but these names are taken from the apocryphal works, which are frowned upon and not accepted by the Catholic Church. The true identity of these four archangels will probably be known to us only in Heaven.
