i saw a similar sight in tagbilaran more than five years ago, believe it or not.  diha sa m. parras cor. g. visarra sts.  akong kalagotan kay di baya na highway dapita.  they're just two-lane roads; any sane driver is supposed to slow down at corners enough not to run over a walking dog.  the dog had already died, but another dog stayed by it.  he was mourning, helplessly looking around.  nakaluha ko.

i kept mentioning the scene to my banana republic for days.  di tingali ko kaantos kun diha pa ko sa pagkaligis, ingon ko niya.  isuwat gyod nako ang plate number sa sakyanan ug ambot unsa pay akong buhaton.

i've sworn long ago that i'll be proactive when it comes to animal rights.  bisag solo alone ra ko, di member ug bisag unsa, daghan man kog vet nga amigo kadiin-diin.  and i know what organizations to call.  full support pa gyod from the banana republic.  andam na kong mokiha o magpakauwaw sa mga guilty karon.  the signature in my profile is not for nothing.

eeekkk, nahinayak na pod ko tungod kay nahinumdom ko atong irong naligsan sa tagbilaran.  it rhymes, huhuhu.

God bless your heart, isles. :)

I hope that there will be no war, as both the Philippines and China holds similar culture and have a history together. A war between our two countries would be devastating and unfortunate.

The problem is that China is hell-bent on world domination. Bisag unsa na lay pretext sa ilang aggression.  >:(

They are even claiming a federal state of the Republic of India. They are claiming India's northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.

What is next? Will they also claim the entire province of Palawaan since it is within 200 miles of their supposed 200 mile EEZ?  :-[

I will get back to this thread in a bit; later this week.

But right now, the geopolitical strategy of the United States is in the containment of China.

Now is the time for the Republic of the Philippines to build up its armed forces, tho we are poor and weak compared to our giant neighbor to the west, the Chinese will find out that the Filipino will be a stubborn fighter.

The PH Government needs to be ready in case of invasion and conflict and should set up a contingency policy.

Dearest Jenneth,

Basta dealing with elderly citizens, sometimes they are very stubborn. Mao lagi, kai ahong lolo galing mag pa stubborn stubborn sija from time to time. When I was back home in Bohol in 2010, I took him to the Tagbilaran Community Hospital as well as Ramiro Hospital for his general check up and his peg-tube change. Since I was home, I wanted to make sure he had his medical check up and charts up-to-date. Kani lagi si lolo pa labad labad og ulo especially ug init na ba. hehe

When we were getting his medicine , I was instructing lolo's caretakers on how to give the drugs to him; when to do it , etc.

hehehe!

We really have to keep aware on what they are taking, Jenneth, kai especially now galing, nga tigulang na sila, sensitive na kaayo ilang system. Ayaw'g gajod kalimta ipainom og aspirin imong papa. Imong mama pod, e-remind'a na sija na inom na ug HYPERTENSION drugs. She needs to control her hypertension.

Regards ha.

Always,

I was told as a child that in order for one to remain fiscally secure, one should practice fiscal responsibility. My parents and my uncle Steve told me this.

they're fine Bran...naga update ko nila almost everyday.. sus Bran, bantayanan kaayo nako si papa especially ingon aron nga init, dali ra malipong, sakit kalawasan ilabi na ang tangkugo (batok) niya...last year Bran, he had 3 mild strokes hadlok oi... Karon, ginapainom nako siya ug water after maligo para ma lower iyang blood pressure tapos ginapainom pod nako water bago matulog para ma avoid ug heart stroke..

Jenneth, maayo gani kai  you watch over your papa. Og naay HYPERTENSION imong papa, importante kaayo to control his blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension is the underlying factor that is associated with Cardiovascular problems like Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), or Cerebrovascular Accidents (Stroke). Is he taking anti-hypertension medication, Jenneth? If he is not; I would recommend he take ACE-INHIBITOR drugs (Captopril, Lisinopril, these drugs end with the suffix "-PRIL").

Okey na ba iyang cholesterol ? Is he taking blood thinners na, Jenneth? Your papa had 3 strokes, importante na kaayo that he is on BLOOD THINNERS for good. Examples ani ay: ASPIRIN, WARFARIN, ENOXAPARIN, HEPARIN. Taga-i nalang imong papa og ASPIRIN every day na for life. These blood thinners will work by reducing the probability of his platelets from clotting ; it will reduce the chances of getting future strokes.

That's good that you're taking care of your papa, Jenneth. Buutan gayod ka ! Yes, keep him hydrated gayod especially og init na gayod sa gawas.

If you ever need any help or if you have questions on anything, you can always PM me.

You want to know what was his favorite song?  we used to sing this song when we would go hike in Woodcock Dam (a local dam that was close to our university), it is called "Like a rolling stone" by Bob Dylan.

Yes, one should practice prudence and choose a respectable and trustworthy banking system. I don't know how the banking systems are like there in the Philippines, but here in the United States; a very good and reputable BANK is PNC BANK, or CHASE.

Yes, balong. It's good when one starts this early on. You are right about bonds as well. SAVINGS bonds are most especially useful , especially when one is an expecting father or already a father of a new-born. One can prepare for one's child's future educational expenses this way.

You're right about future diversification possibilities. :)

this has taken on a more heightened nuance for me after reading (until 4 a.m.!) that thread on the obituary for orchids, that thread back in 2008 when tb was still a very strange creature for me.  (i came across the forum thereabouts but never gave a thought to joining then.)  i was surprised at my own tears over a young life suddenly cut short, over all the outpourings of grief, the disbelief and lamentations of lorenz, the offers of prayers from just about everyone.  heavens, i thought.  these are real people!  people who care even in cyberspace!

When I joined TB, back in 2007, when i used to check this website (i really loved the website because it was bohol related) my friend rob used to check it out as well. he used to ask me, "what does that word mean?" lol. always inquisitive; that's how he was like, isles. he was such a very good soul with a very old-style twang to him.

we planned to go back home to bohol together in 2008 for our post-graduation present. with rob's unexpected passing, plans were put on hold and this website allowed me to mourn.

i maintain a thread for him; his mother and father found this website and read all of my postings. his mother registered tb so she could contact me.

you would have loved him. he was very boglbogolon yet very respectful; a free-spirited kind of guy. my exact opposite. we clashed when first met in college back in 2004; but over time, we became very good friends--brothers.

you would have liked him. he was the type that would have made anyone laugh.

How to be happy?

A: Learn to be content with what you have.

So long as one is never satisfied with what he or she has, he or she will never be happy.

The sense of "happiness" is linked to materialistic aspirations or external happenings. Better one is joyous or joyful; for joyfulness is linked with the spirit , the relegation of abundant graces that springs forth from The Lord God In Heaven. To be joyous and joyful is to be filled with the GRACE of God. :)

If you put $5,000 in a CD (annual interest rate of 5%), within 40 years , you will have $35,199.94

If you put $10,000 in CD (annual interest rate of 5%, within 40 years, you will have $70,399.89

If you put $ 20,000 in CD (annual interest rate of 5%), within 40 years,  you will have $140, 799.77

If you put $30,000 in CD (annual interest rate of 5%), within 40 years, you will have $211,199.66

------

Note: This is good if you start it young; as in when you are in  your 20's or 30's. You don't touch this CD; as if it does not even exist.
By the time you hit retirement age; in addition to your other earnings and savings; 401k plan; in addition to pension etc; you will also walk away with a big chunk from your CD.

when i was 21, i placed a lump sum of $5,000 into a CD; with interest accumulating 4.5% every year; now, I have $6,229 in that CD. This CD is not to be touched in 20 some years.

it's not good to take a risk in investing in the stock market; you could lose a lot of money in case stocks fall.

it's always good to be fiscally conservative. if you are young, and put a large sum in time savings (and not touch this), by the time one retires (say within 40 years), one could walk out a millionaire. let it accumulate interest.

“No, this is the kind of fasting I want:
Free those who are wrongly imprisoned;
lighten the burden of those who work for you.
Let the oppressed go free,
and remove the chains that bind people.
Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

Then your salvation will come like the dawn,
and your wounds will quickly heal.
Your godliness will lead you forward,
and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.
Then when you call, the Lord will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.

“Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.
Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!
Feed the hungry,
and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.
The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities.
Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls
and a restorer of homes.

Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Don’t pursue your own interests on that day,
but enjoy the Sabbath
and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day.
Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day,
and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly.
Then the Lord will be your delight.
I will give you great honor
and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob.
I, the Lord, have spoken! ”

1  O LORD, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!

2From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength
         Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

3When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained
